After 5 nights here we are definitely not fans of Japanese bedding, but otherwise this was a good ryokan. Staff very sweet and friendly - not usually a problem making yourself understood with lots of smiling, sign language and a few words! It's not great value for money, but nowhere half decent in Kyoto is. Our room was big enough, very clean and had everything we needed. We had both buffet breakfast and traditional Japanese banquet dinner included in our rate. Dinner is served in your room, the... Read more

My partner and I were there during peak cherry blossom period, so hotel prices in Kyoto were high. We had a wonderful time, the meals were amazing , yes Japanese food at its best, yes lots of food and wonderful service. The hotel was central for the bus to the bamboo forest and 500 metres to the train to Gion. All day bus ticket was 500 yen and available at the hotel. My partner had injured her foot and was in a wheelchair , the staff at the hotel were so helpful, the buses and trains were a del... Read more

We got there before the 3pm check in taking a taxi from Kyoto station on JR. The large taxi cost about 3030 yen. It's located on a little side street. Using your GPS will help navigate. Front desk personnel have limited English but are very nice. We left our luggage in the lobby while we went out to explore. They tied the suitcases together with a string. We came to experience the traditional ryokan. Everything was basic. The little handbook was a nice touch - it showed how to use the publ... Read more

We stayed two nights with breakfast. First morning, breakfast was served in a large room with chairs. The following day, breakfast was served in a large tatami room where we had to sit on the tatami and fold our legs. It was a bit difficult. Food was abundant but was cooked some time before, so it was cold and hard. We had dinners outside, which I think was a right decision. We did not use the big bath. This ryokan is basic, overall, but is in good location. We walked to Nishiki Market, took su... Read more

My draw to this place was the reasonable price and the fact that you can reserve a room with a private toilet and bath. They have separate men/women communal baths (onsen) which are traditional and part of the ryokan experience, but not everyone in my family was comfortable enough to use it. The rooms and facilities were very clean and staff were friendly & helpful (they speak minimal English). My kids loved the tatami room and sleeping on the futons (the staff come in the evening to make the... Read more

Pros: Old japansk hotel Ok daily cleaning Cons: Very old and dirty rooms (pls see pictures). In short rooms need renovation. You sleep on the floor, think twice before you think it could be fun to try. We all slept terrible. Strange blanket and small pillow. Front desk was not helpful and could not speak english would not order a taxi and would not help us with cancelling the last night of our stay. The hotel is located fare away from all attraction and shopping areas. The view fro... Read more
