The hotel is located conveniently near the Kyoto railway station, the staff are friendly and helpful. Whilst the room is a bit small (like many hotels in Japan), there was sufficient space to put our suitcases down and move around. The one thing that really impressed me was the breakfast at this hotel.....there were good choices of Western or Japanese breakfast and a fair bit of room to cope with a decent crowd. The staff worked very hard making sure everything was restocked so the guests didn't... Read more

Ibis Styles is a mediocre hotel with a good location. Pros: Great location right next to the Kyoto train station. Clean, though the bathroom definitely had mold. Beds were softer than most in Japan and I slept reasonably well. Room was good sized, not too small. Overall, a good place to stay if you are traveling, just need a quick place to crash, and plan to get breakfast at the train station. Cons: Awful breakfast with almost no options and most of it running out long before anyone came... Read more

We have stayed at Accor hotels around the world and various IBIS hotels in different countries and this Ibis by far has the smallest rooms, feels almost clausterphobic! The hotel is right across the Kyoto Station on the Shinkansen Central exit side. If you come on a JR train you will take the escalator up to the 2nd floor from the main atrium/lobby area. Then walk left all the way across to the South exit on the opposite side. Bit hard to find the first time around but then its an easy walk... Read more

This was literally 20 steps from the Itami airport limosine Kyoto drop off. Opposite the quieter side of Kyoto station. Staff were efficient and helpful. Breakfast quite good once a seat became available. Queen room tiny with bed against the walls forcing one person to climb over other one to get out. Solid 3 star hotel.

This was an excellent location for us to stay for getting around both Japan and Kyoto as you are literally across the street from the station for both local and Shinkansen train and the local bus service. There is also a great selection of eating and shopping options. The staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were compact but clean and comfortable, with no noise on the higher floors. The breakfast had a good selection on offer. Would defiantly stay if back in Kyoto.

Clean and warm settings, rooms are tidy, polite and friendly staff, willing to provide assistance in a helpful and professional attitude Very easy to access, just 3 - 5 mins away from the Kyoto Station, elegant outfit and there are other shopping malls nearby My reservation was with buffet tickets, although the choices of the breakfast were not many, the food was still acceptable and quite tasty.

We could not find the exit from the station that was mentioned on the website. Go towards the west exit and you will eventually find it. You can see the hotel from the station - it is straight across the road. Check in was very easy. The receptionist spoke very good English and was very friendly. Asked for a room with a nice view.... Got a view of a building wall. Not to worry. Walked into the tiniest room I have ever seen. We had the economy double room and it is 14square metres in total. The b... Read more

Small rooms - nice decor comfortable beds. Across the road from the station. Do not take the breakfast option if you are looking for a 'English' type breakfast ! Stayed 3 days - same small bowl of cornflakes on the stand everyday. Scrambled egg which I put on my toast & that's it !! Extremely disappointed with the breakfast - 95% Asian 5 % Western. Don't waste your money ! Front desk also not very helpful. Location good for the train station.

This hotel is in a great location, and can be spotted from the train station. The room was clean & modern, and to be expected in Japan, small. My family of 4 used 2x rooms & even then it was really squashed with luggage. The breakfast is "okay" but unless included in your room rate, I would give a miss especially if staying more that one night. There are plenty of other food establishments nearby, including a convenience store (mini supermarket) across the road. I thought a 50/50 split of Ja... Read more

Can't fault the position...opposite the station. Rooms were teeny tiny - the smallest overall our 2 week Japan holiday but neat and everything one would need. Breakfast (a meal I look forward too immensely) was not enjoyable at all - far too busy with bland offerings (I only wanted fruit and that was cut up into sizes for pre schoolers and the person in front of me basically took the platter on offer - leaving me waiting waiting waiting for more to be brought out & then I didn't get in quick en... We needed a place to stay in Kyoto near the station. This was it. We slept there. It was safe and convenient. If that's what you want, go for it. Check in and check out were unnecessarily unpleasant. Breakfast was an absolute zoo: plastic food off plastic plates on plastic tables. Way too many people for the breakfast room's capacity. Room had all you would expect for an overnight stay and an unrivalled view of the karaoke palace across the road. If you want to experience the gracefulness of ... Read more

Ibis Styles Kyoto Station is a nice hotel and staff are very friendly and helpfull. It is very conveniently located just outside Kyoto Station which is the hub for train in and out of Kyoto. Inner city bus terminal also in Kyoto Station, so, it is very convenient for traveller. Room is nice and room size is standard of Ibis Style size. Brrakfast is simple but nice as well.

I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for something inexpensive to put 'the head down' next to the station. Its not in the main tourist/shopping area though. It's not a luxury hotel but the rooms were clean (although small), good room facilities, the staff were very helpful, breakfast was included and while basic, it 'hit the spot' very nicely. All in all excellent value for money.

Ibis Styles was a small and somewhat budgetish hotel next to Kyoto station. That was probably its key asset but nevertheless an important one. The rooms were tiny and actually had a balcony which was not advisable to access. The breakfast room was pretty small and generally crowded but the food was OK. We stayed one night as the previous hotel we were at, the Keihan, was fully booked for the extra night we wanted. Location was excellent opposite the station. However, for the price, we thought you get better value at the Keihan. There were simple things that were missing from this hotel, that most of the other Japanese hotels we stayed at, had. It was clear this european hotel chain group didn't quite get the Japanese way, instead "cost-cutting" where they could. Would not stay here again. ... Read more

Spent 3 nights here while we travelled around Japan a bit. The hotel is your average station hotel. Really easy access to JR lines, bullet train and subway. Rooms have the basic facilities and the breakfast is okay. However, the breakfast hall is very small and you feel like you're constantly in someone's way. The staff speak good English and seem willing to help. Rooms were cleaned to a decent standard each day. I'm conclusion, it does what is says on the tin.

When you are lugging too much luggage around Japan with your rail pass, it's often a good idea to base yourself near a train station--especially for short stays. Though you should occasionally spurge on a beautiful ryokan or make the journey to a special hotel, you will have the budget and energy to do so when you find a cheap place near a train station. The Ibis chain of hotels are usually well-located, clean and modern and offer an excellent value. Yes, the room may be small, but it's comforta... Read more

The best of this hotel is the location, just in front of Kyoto Station. This means you have a variety of options to eat within walking distance. This hotel is directly across from the Kyoto Station, which is a huge plus. The staff were very helpful, and the place was clean. The reason for only 4 stars is that, in comparison to the APA hotel in Hiroshima we stayed at last night, this place seemed a little more worn.
