Located adjacent (inside?) to the Kyoto station and just up on the second floor is this grand old hotel. It's very conveniently located. It's pricey and naturally crowded with tourists. There's a breakfast buffet that's got the best coffee I found in Kyoto. The food itself was pretty good. If you don't want to spend lots on a standard hotel meal, there are at least 110 restaurants in the Cube. I wasn't that moved or impressed, but it's a decent hotel if you don't mind spending a lot.

We have been staying in the Granvia (and in other hotels of the chain) again and again. The standard of the rooms is high and the service outstanding. The closeness of the trains is very convenient; the Kyoto visitor should however be aware that the city center (Shijo/Kawaramachi) is further than an easy walk away!

Nice hotel for both business and leisure trips to Kyoto. It's a bit on the pricy side, but consider that one saves both time and fare thanks to its location in Kyoto's train station. One day during our stay it was pouring rain and I observed the travellers waiting to fetch a ride in front of the station. Boy, was I happy with our choice. Our room was clean and the staff helpful and professional. There are several nice restaurants in the building - their opening hours seem a bit too regimented t... Read more

This is not a ryokan or high end luxury experience, but a wonderful place to stay. The hotel is beautiful and conveniently located in Kyoto Station (if you are taking day trips out of the city it is ideal). The service is OUTSTANDING in every way, especially the concierges. I learned about places to see and eat not mentioned in any guide book, good advice on transportation, etc. The rooms are comfortable, quiet and spotless. They will even ship your purchases home for you. We stayed here for the final night of our Kyoti stay, as we had to depart quite early. The location is excellent for the train, but also for exploring Kyoto. Room was alright, and breakfast (included in rate) was generous in portions, but quality was lackluster. The staff were very friendly, but very slow at check in and check out. I was also disappointed in the recommendations of the concierge. For such a popular hotel with many travelers, I was disappointed in the dining recommendation the... Read more

After arriving from an 11 hour flight to Osaka, this hotel was more than perfect. The train from Osaka airport to Kyoto stops beneath the Hotel Granvia. It is a simple excalator ride from the train to the lobby of the hotel. The concierge was fabulous and we were in correspondence via email for some time before my arrival so that everything was arranged when I arrived. The breakfast is rather sumptuous and the location was perfect. When I was there it was the start of cherry blossom viewing ... Read more

What a surprise to stay at an excellent hotel in a central railway station. The hotel is located on the second floor of the most spectacular building. Stores, restaurants, cafes..... the list goes on. I loved the concept of the 10 level department store that is part of the building. It is so big I got lost - provided an opportunity to discover even more. The room was very comfortable and deep bathtub was a plus. Hotel was Ok for a business trip. Room on 12th floor was small, with a view of railway station roof, a non-adjustable shower and really hot water., Plenty of space in fridge to put your own items, but safe too small to fit a computer. Breakfast was pretty good (buffet, self serve) but needed to queue on each of the 3 days I was there. The coffee is from a machine and could be better. The localization is perfect with direct access to Train and Bus station. The breakfast has a good selection of fresh food - Japanese and American. We highly recommend the Hotel Granvia Kyoto.

This hotel is part of the enormous complex that is Kyoto Station. Main access is by escalator from the station concourse. Service is good, rooms spacious and well-equipped. You can choose three locations for breakfast including an Italian on the top floor with excellent city views though the ground floor buffet has a wider choice of foods. Do go out into the station concourse and take the escalators up to the 15th (?) floor roof gardens at night to get an idea of the scale of the place. Locati... Read more

Awesome location if you are taking the Shinkansen in or out of Kyoto. Otherwise, I would recommend not staying right by Kyoto Station. The hotel itself was beautiful and clean. The staff was very welcoming. This was a business trip so I did not pay out of pocket, but the cost seemed reasonable. You could find a business hotel for cheaper further out from the station. We basically needed a hotel room for the day 9 am-5 pm. Unfortunately despite multiple attempts in advance, no such day rate existed and the options were to book two nights, which is ridiculous if you are only using during the day. Check in the person was rude and had little command of English. Had to bring in a supervisor to "check us in at 9 am" despite paying for two nights. Room was fine. Seriously, you must consider staying at Hotel Granvia Kyoto if you are visiting Kyoto. Let me explain. First of all, it is just above the JR Kyoto Station, so it is very convenient to move around even with young kids like my family. In addition, there are so many restaurants nearby - both inside and outside the complex, and the food is really delicious. If you're looking for a beautiful and central place to stay in Kyoto, the Gran Via is it. It has all the modern luxury amenities you can ask for, as well as it's proximity to shops, restaurants (in and it of the hotel), as well as super easy access to the Japan Rail Shinkansen, which stops right inside the hotel! It was spacious, a great view of the city from the room, right on top of a transportation hub and mega mall, large taxi stand out front, a couple 7/11s downstairs, a theater next door, every kind of restaurant up the escalators... of course you are likely to be spending most of your time seeing all the shrines and antiquities the city has to offer.

With limited time in Japan and our desire to visit Kyoto, Nara, Himeji and Hiroshima, the Granvia was perfect. We asked for a quiet room as we worry about the noise facing the station but was given a room with no view at all. Should ask for one with a view of the Kyoto towe... Read more

I stayed twice in that hotel during my two weeks and a half stay in Japan, which I guess, speaks for itself. It is inside the train station, which is absolutely incredible on its own (if it is raining you can spend pretty much two days exploring in there.) The hotel has huge rooms (for Japan) and fantastic views on Kyoto. It is a great base to explore Kyoto. Loved it, would definitely stay again.

This hotel was in a great location (above the train station) with great access to the city. The rooms were spacious, well appointed and had everything we needed. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff were exceptionally helpful. Take advantage of the luggage forwarding service if your travelling across Japan.

The hotel is perfectly located at the train station, allowing easy access around the city. The room was spacious, well equipped with toiletries and a stocked mini bar. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of foods to cater for all. Would definitely recommend.

This hotel is in a great location for both trains and the taxi cue. There is a taxi pick up location for native speakers and another for tourists making it easy to get around. Bathroom is big for Japan, our bed was comfortable and a king. It was noisy, our room faced the street and taxi cue. We stayed in Tokyo three days prior at the Park and it was so quiet it possibly spoiled us. The breakfast buffet is grreat

Very convenient location inside the huge central station complex, good and prompt service, well taken care food in the different restaurants of the hotel and nice bar/lounge on the top - 15th floor. The only thing is that the hotel is too modern to fit Kyoto's amazing traditional landscape and architecture

Arrived at the hotel and was given an upgrade to a Junior Suite ‚?? thank you very much! The room was big, clean and had everything. Overall the style was a little dated but I really can‚??t fault it. The bed was super comfortable and during my week at the hotel, I had night after night of great sleep. Location is also superb and I found the bus network of Kyoto to be the easiest way around the city and the 500 Yen day pass well worth it.

I was in Japan for about 2 weeks and spent about 5 days in Kyoto. My primary mode of transportation was the train -- extremely convenient since we had booked JR passes to have unlimited use of the trains. We decided to pick this hotel because it is attached to the train station, and that was a great move. We did a couple of day trips (Hiroshima and Nara) and it couldn't have been easier since we were in the train station. Even exploring main Kyoto was easy. We only needed to do at most one tra... The location of this hotel is excellent for sightseeing. 15 minute train ride to Arashiyama, 11 minute train ride to Fushimi Inari Shrine, and a 15 minute taxi ride to Gion Corner/Downtown Kyoto. It was also the perfect hotel for the typhoon weather we experienced during our stay: Isetan department store with yummy food, underground shopping mall, and so much more. The hotel concierge was super helpful too. I would definitely recommend going to the concierge and asking him/her to book the 1 d... Read more

Very clean, great breakfast buffet. Many shops and eateries around the hotel and connected to the station. Note that the small fitness facility with indoor lap pool and treadmills/free weights charges hotel guests for use. Laundry service is fast (same day).

For our honeymoon/first anniversary combined trip, we went to Japan. Our base was Tokyo, but we spent a couple of days in Kyoto. During that time, we stayed here. What a place. All the staff are so attentive, polite, and courteous. They made an effort to make us feel special because we were celebrating, and even framed a picture they took of us to take away. Such a genuinely lovely touch. I haven't wrote a review of our Tokyo hotel yet, but the contrast is damning. If you're staying in Kyoto... Read more

Stayed here March 2015 and had no hesitation in staying here again in September 2016. Excellent location and staff still as friendly and helpful as last time. Arrived too early to check in but no trouble in holding luggage while we did some sightseeing. Staff suggested Inari shrine (1000 Tori gates) and gave clear instructions on how to get there- worth the visit. On return to hotel check in was fast and efficient. The JR Shinkansen and local stations, together with the Hankyu and Subway stations are just below the hotel. Check-in was orderly and the front desk staff are very friendly. They could converse well in English. Once done with check-in, the concierge would meet you at the front desk and personally usher you to your room. Once there, he will open the door for you, lead you inside the room, introduce you to the features of the room and emergency procedures. What a great service! The rooms are s... Read more

This hotel seems OK...there are 4 of us in the room, it has 2 small doubles and a sofa bed so unless your kids are small don't recommend it.. The check-in was great, they stored our luggage ( and got a an earlier check-in), rooms are not super fancy but good. The bathroom is one of the smallest we gave encounter but I wouldn't say that small just normal.

To access the hotel from the Kyoto Shinkansen (bullet train) leave from the main exit, turn right and walk along the north south corridor. On the LH side look for the overhead yellow arrows to the hotel. When you arrive at the info centre (shown as a ?) almost immediately opposite is an escalator to a long passage leading to the hotel. Located in the same building as Kyoto station it's easy to find for new tourists. Service is polite and efficient as you would expect when in Japan. My room was a standard twin which was fine for my needs, overlooked the station platforms and was clean and modern. Wifi was good and free. I ate in a couple of the hotel's restaurants and they were both excellent. Reason for 4 stars is purely because I felt like a number. The room was OK,, the buffet breakfast was good, the location was generally convenient. However, the staff seemed to be apathetic and uncaring--nothing overt, but not up to usual Japanese standards. And, it's the only time I can remember being charged for making a cup of coffee in my room.

We have visited this hotel at least 4 times and it will remain to be our #1 choice whenever we visit Kyoto. Being right on top of the JR train station, it is accessible to bullet trains and local trains alike. Local bus terminal is right outside the hotel so catching local buses for sight seeing is extremely convenient. The hotel itself provides great services and relatively large accommodation; breakfast and lunch at Le Temps are both delicious and reasonably priced.

When my group is ready to go to Himeji to see the castle, or to Nara to visit Todaiji, we simply take the elevator to the train level of the Granvia Kyoto STATION Hotel and we board our train. Furthermore, this hotel is the center of Kyoto's subway, bus, and taxi transport. I once wrote a letter of congratulations to the Hotel manager, complimenting him on the quality of his staff. We stayed here for two nights on our round trip of Japan. The hotel is well positioned as part of the Kyoto station complex, so getting around from hotel, by tube, train, bus or taxi is very easy. The downside is that the hotel is so big, you inevitably have to wait for lifts, and in particular, the queue for breakfast is, in my opinion, unacceptable of a hotel of this standard. We tried at 8.45, 26 people in front of us, and at 7 am there were less, about 10, but then the was only one coffee ma... Read more
