I was excited to be staying at this hotel, even though the price was high....$420 a night. The rooms are rundown with holes in bedcover, lounge chairs and the rooms are dirty... Curtains dusty and thick black dust on top of shower area. The shutters separating bathroom from bed area need repainting and oiling. The staff are not helpful... Our friends couldn't use shower due to it flooding out onto the carpet. Staff told them they had no one available to fix the situation . So they had to use ons... Read more

Excellent location, on the lake nearby the cruise boats. Check-in not before 15h. Room spacious with everything available. Only negative thing is the restaurant. They have a bar which serves some items as salad, spaghetti and sandwiches. Other choice is the "french" restaurant. They have like 4-5-6 course menus and a few alacarte dishes. Never had such an expensive and small dish before. I was so shocked I forgot to take a picture to remind myself later. Breakfast is ok, but over organized and ... Read more

Stayed overnight at this hotel as part of a tour of Japan, the only down side was the weather which completely hide our view of Mt Fuji. The hotel itself, we were told, is family run and the staff were friendly and very efficient, as you would expect in Japan. The room we had was quite large for Japan, it was clean but could do with a bit of updating, however, as our room was on the front facing the lake made up for any shortcomings. An evening meal was included as part of our stay and this turn... Read more

We were able to see Mt. Fuji in the evening and morning - so majestic! The hotel is located by a beautiful lake. Our room was very large with a great view of the lake. Our French dinner and breakfast were included in our stay and we enjoyed both.

We only stayed here one night. Has lots of good points: the room was by far the largest we had during our trip to Japan, and included a large dining room, the dinner was good as was the breakfast. But on the down side it was all a little tired and uninspiring. The bar was most depressing; the barman the grumpiest person we met on the entire trip. We couldn't take drinks from the bar to the restaurant - but we weren't offered any drinks in the restaurant; and the bar closes at 9.00 pm prompt! ... Read more

This property is really good. Rooms are specious and staff is very cordial. Garden behind the hotel is too good. Bus stop is right at the entrance of the hotel. I had raised issue for outside view from the window which was little different and less attractive from others. Staff replaced the room immediately with suit as similar room was not available. This was a sweet surprise and must say can happen only in Japan. Staff speaks English Public bath and spa were nice and one should not miss thi... Read more

We arranged to be picked up from Odawara station by the free hotel shuttle, which was there waiting for us. It is approx a 40 minute ride to the hotel from Odawara. check in was smooth and quick. All hotel rooms face the lake and have floor to ceiling windows a wonderful feature. The furniture and furnishings are on the tired side and could do with updating, however the rooms are clean and comfortable. The gardens facing the lake are mainly lawned with benches facing the lake - lovely to sit and... Read more

My husband and I stayed at the Hakone Hotel for two nights during the summer, and upon our arrival, were ecstatic about the beautiful Lake Ashi view from our room. Some pros: the hotel is conveniently located next to a dock if you would like to cruise around the lake, and there is a bus stop directly in front of the hotel's entrance. Staff is nice and helpful. The hotel itself was clean, but as other reviewers have mentioned, the furnishings and hotel exterior would benefit from some updating. T... Read more

I agree with previous reviews of "good but not great" and "tired." For close to $400 CAD a night I felt this was way overpriced. The hotel was once beautiful and modern. It is now dirty, old, and tired. It needs a major renovation. The once white carpet in our room is now brown and grey. We didn't even want to take our shoes off it was so filthy. The furniture is old, the couches sagging, and the beds very hard. The shower leaked water all over the bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful a... Read more

After rereading some of the reviews before our visit, I was a bit apprehensive of spending a couple of nights at this hotel. However, my fears were totally unfounded. My wife and I had a wonderful time here and we would love to come back again. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful without exception. The room was huge and well appointed, and the view towards Mt Fuji from the ceiling to floor window was magnificent. The furniture is not modern and glitzy but fits the character of the pla... The food in the restaurant is way overpriced (at least the pizza is)! Worst pizza I had in my life! The pizza had the size of a piccolini and the ingredients on top all came out of a can and were still cold. The lake view is really nice.

This hotel is not cheap, BUT, you get what you pay for! What is your purpose of visiting Hakone? Isn't it for the lake and Fuji Mountian? This hotel has the view of both! It is just next to the cruise port. If you are given the right room, during the morning when you open the curtain, you will see the lake and Fuji mountain (if you are lucky with weather). Hotel also offers hot spring bath which is very Japanese. Welcome drinks at 1740-1800 every day, good breakfast, bus in front of the ... Read more

The views and location are amazing. Our room was clean, a good size, and comfortable, although in much need of being updated. In regards to service the reception staff and manger were great, however the bar man who worked in the afternoon and evening we found to be rude, unhelpful, and unaccommodating. There aren't many restaurants around so we ate in the French restaurant at the hotel which I wouldn't recommend as was lacking in atmosphere, was over priced, and the service adequate. The hotel ... What a wonderful location! Situated in the mountains and with lovely gardens viewable from all the hotel windows, this is a popular hotel with the Japanese and a few tourists. It has fantastic gender specific baths which are a must try - so relaxing. The only drawback for some would be you have to eat at the hotel unless you have a car to take you elsewhere and not many staff speak English. However we loved this hotel - it has a very luxurious and relaxed feel.

A real shame as the Hakone hotel as an amazing view of Mount Fuji if you get a room with the view. It is somewhat dated and could really do with updating but it has its charm. The staff are not very friendly. Unfortunately we booked our room in the UK on agoda site and there is a glitch on their website. You book a double room for 2 but when you go to confirm it changes to 1. The hotel wanted to charge another £120 for the second person even though the booking was for a double room. They just w... This is a very pleasant hotel, with a splendid breakfast . Most of the rooms appear to have a view of Lake Ashi. A word of caution though, don't expect to see Mount Fuji in all its splendour as if you are lucky you will in the far distance the summit of the mountain. We drank the Kool-Aid and expected to see Mount Fuji but were disappointed. The hotel itself has been a feature of the town for over 100 years and has burnt down on two occasions. There is an interesting history of the hotel in the ... Read more

The view is worth the visit. The breakfast is excellent and has variety. Staff is beyond terrible. They do not speak much English and are not eager to help. They will repeat what you say like a parrot. Staff is like a piece of furniture who have the added value of cheching in and out people. That's it.

We stayed , with a tour group , at this lovely hotel at a time when it when the weather was not at its best . The much vaunted view of Mount Fuji was not to be . However our room was beautiful , modern decor and comfortable beds and furniture . Our evening meal was excellent and we were impressed by the breakfast buffet . We were too tired after our long sightseeing day to enjoy the hotel's greatest attraction , the onsen or typical Japanese hot bath .
