Visiting an authentic onsen outside of Tokyo before I left Japan was on my bucket list. And at the recommendation of a friend, I booked a night at Mikawaya Ryoken. Overall, it was a very nice and relaxing experience. Personally, I thought it was a bit overpriced, and if you're a party of 1, you pay the full price for a two-person room. That said, the staff was very attentive, the meals were really fantastic, and you really get the Onsen experience with the indoor and outdoor tub and shower r... Read more

We stayed here just one night and it was an amazing experience. Right from checking in to the hot springs bath, dinner in the robes they provided to breakfast the next morning. Spotless, of course. Just a wonderful experience overall . Would do it again in a heart beat .

The overall experience here was decent. The rooms were quite comfortable and the private onsen was really nice. The dinner was only okay and the hotel facilities desperately need an update--dark hallways, etc... It is about 20 minutes from the train station in Hakone. They speak very little English. The ryokan experience is a must-do in Japan, at least for one night, but maybe not here.

Stayed for 2 nights in a Fuga room with its own small hot spring bath. A bit of a frosty reception when we first arrived before official check-in time but once we returned later everything was great. Our first experience in a Ryokan and we really enjoyed it. The room was spacious with a living room and bedroom, beautifully set out with tatami mats and paper screens. We had a set meal of many courses the first night - some we liked more than others but the presentation and service were first cl... Read more

We stayed one night at this Ryokan and we loved it. The service is great, very friendly stuff. The room is very good with an onsen in the room with hot waters from the Vulcan. We didn't read the small printing and we only realised they didn't serve dinner in the room when we arrived. They only serve dinner between 6pm and 8pm, a traditional japanese dinner which was very good. Breakfast needs also to be booked at a specific time. There's Wifi in the lounge but not in the rooms. To get there ther... Read more
