"Horrible place to be considered an all inclusive resort. The rooms are in dire need of repairs and the lobby is in desperately in need of a face lift. Wi-Fi is NOT free, you MUST pay in order to use it. Beach towels and safe require a security deposit. i have visited some time ago and this hotel is nothing like it used to be. Rest assured, this will be my last visit there....please dont waste your money or your time. Jamaica has many other resorts that are more deserving of your dollar and will give you what you pay for. I must mention that the jerk grill master does an awesome job with the jerk chicken...that is the only thing that's great about the resort."

"My wife and I had 10 great days at Sunset. I don't know what the problem with some of the reviewers was; maybe they just set their expectations too high. We have travelled to many places in the Caribbean and Mexico and this resort was up there as far as food and friendly staff. Yes we had to wait sometimes for a drink and they could have used a bartender just for the swim up bars but it wasn't as that long a wait (relax your down south away from work) (hope the complainers don't play golf that would send them around the bend).
Housekeepers were friendly and very accommodating we didn't even use a safe as we felt so comfortable with the staff. Housekeepers are the most honest and hard working staff at any resort.
All in all %u2013 the entertainment staff was great always upbeat and friendly, the bartenders and waitstaff were the same and the buffet food was always hot with a wide variety of choices. We did the restaurants and they were OK but we preferred the buffet where you could sit and watch the beach and the nightly entertainment just for the evening dinners. It takes 24 hours to get into any resort so chill out around the pool or beach and wait for your room. Our room in the south tower was great was great.

"My stay at this hotel was average overall, the best experience was the food. The hotel needs to be renovate, or at least be given a good coating of paint. The lobby is fitly with birds nesting in the roof, and dirty chairs for guest and other visitors to sit, or just relax.Furniture in the room were old and unkept."

"Be prepared to have one bar tender that tends to the walk up bar and the swim up bar. They will not serve you unless you tip them The staff expects to have tips, and get offended when you tell them that tips are included. VERY understaffed, you can only reserve dinner for max of three nights. THey did not have our room ready until the next day, so we had to move rooms the next day The elevator is a Joke, you go no where fast. They advertise they are 60 minutes away from airport, but it took us 2.5 hours to get there and back to the airport. Smells horrible, and the cleaning of your room sometimes was not done till after 5pm. They staff really act like you have to tip them to get better service. I hated that you only had one bartender to very busy bars. Do not book here, you will be very disappointed."

"Our original room we booked was not ready the first night. We booked ocean front with king size bed. They gave us ocean view with 2 double beds for the first night. then we had to check our luggage and change rooms 2nd day. was little frustrating our original room we booked was not ready like we had ordered.
Also, the restaurants that you had to make reservations for were not available until Saturday and we arrived on Tuesday. So most the nights we had to eat buffet."

"Traveled with a group of 12 in Feburary and had a blast. But must admit that we all had pretty low expectations based on the excellent price that we got. Pros: nice beach, friendly staff. overall fun place to hang out. Cons: food is edible at the buffet, but definitely better in the restuarants. It's tough to get reservations and we were actually told we could only have them for 3 nights out of our week long stay, it took a LONG time to get to the hotel from Montego Bay airport, there are often lines for food and drinks and not a lot of variety in food at lunch time. Overall if you get a good price this place is definitely worth it and I would recommend to anyone who didn't have really high expectations. It's not a high end hotel, but it works."

"We went to Jamaica for our 1 year wedding anniversary, and I was not impressed. Some of the staff was very accomadating, but the staff located at Guest Services was not. We were told at check in, to book our dinner reservations the morning before, but when we went to do just that, we were told we should have booked for all of our nights when we arrived. This was very frustrating being that we arrived the night before and Guest Services was already closed for the day. We were told the Italian place was all booked for the enitre length of our trip. Luckily, we were able to sneak in thanks to the host. Guest Services rolled thier eyes at us and were not helpfull at all. The pool activities were fun. Our room didn't get cleaned one day, even though we put our sign on the door to have it cleaned. We left the room for at least 4 hours during the late morning/afternoon and again at dinner time, but no cleaning was done.

"I would not travel back to this resort or recommend it to anyone. The food was inconsistent except at the 3 restaurants on the resort. We had a large group and the reservationist made it hard for us to get a reservation. We even offered to split our group up. The buffet was hit or miss and was almost always out of food. They did not replenish fast enough. The staff that you needed to be helpful weren't and only came across a select few that would go out of their way and were very friendly. I paid for oceanfront with a king size bed and when we checked in they didn't have any available, so we got two double beds and somewhat of an ocean view and all of the roofs of the building. Fortunately we were with others that told us all-inclusives were not all like this as this was our first experience. The price wasn't bad for 2 people, but as they say you get what you pay for. Not impressed..."

"started out bad fogged in at st johns for 3 days, thanks to cetain people for fixing the problem and extending our vacation we had an enjoyable time. we were there during the spring break, lots of young people there from vergina tech and other schools having a great time, our future doctors lawyers and politicians,who were very polite and curtiousto us a little older folk all the best to you all.Great resort close to town and shopping,beach nice and long , not alot of huts to get under, times hard to find spot on beach, food great if you were hungery it your own fault,bar staff very friendly, few nights bar was drank dry no beer rum or volka, times not easy to be served long lineups .entertainment at night consisted of same band with different singers, whom were professional, nice to have something different,diet pepsi very scarce,and any diet drienks not good if your a diabetic. all in al if your looking for a good time and some sun you cant go wrong with jamaica grande ----- not even one fly bite"

"The resort is a little run down. It's not luxurious but instead pretty basic yet functional. All of the pools aren't always open. The buffet has several local dishes and we enjoyed most of them. The restaurants don't always have everything on the menu and some of them are hard to book. Most of the staff are friendly and efficient. I did have a couple bad experiences with the staff trying to basically demand tips even though the website states that tips are included. We enjoyed venturing off the resort and walking around. The strip of private beach at the resort is pretty nice and the water is much warmer in the Sea versus the pool. No refrigerator in the room unless you request one and even then you have to stock it yourself with things you buy off of the resort. They should really use some fabric softener. We stayed in the older tower but a girl that stayed in the newer tower said the rooms were poor there as well. We would probably stay in a guest house if we return but it definitely wasn't a horrible experience by any means."

"The worst experience ever. The room smelled like mold. No refrigerator in the room so if you wake up in the middle of the night thirsty, you are out of luck. They have no room service after the resort is closed by 2 AM. The housekeepers are thieves I left my I Phone in my room just to run downstairs real quick by the time I came back it was gone. I went to the help desk it took a long to even get help. Then when the finally came to the room they started searching our belongings like we stoled our own phone. They finally contact the housekeepers and out of the three that was in the room they only questioned one person. Nothing was done about it, then they wanted to offer that we rent a safe mind you when we first checked in no one told us about even rented a safe. They didn't care or try to find the phone. they just told us that we have to keep checking at the front desk to see if they found a phone. terrible experience"

"I was very skeptical after reading the other reviews but now I'm SO HAPPY that I went ahead and booked the grande.
I an 5 months pregnant, we were celebrating our anniversary and overjoyed with our stay at the Grande.
We had an ocean view room on the 7th floor in the North Tower and it was spectacular! Our room was cleaned every day. The hotel overall was kept clean. Our room was sufficient and comfortable.
The property is huge but easy to navigate. There are 5 pools to choose from and a large span of white sandy beach to relax on. The buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner was adequate and I found the variety of food to be just fine and tasty. There is authentic Jamaican food to choose from especially at breakfast when they have the 'Jamaica corner' The unfortunate thing was the other restaurants were booked up for our entire visit. If you want to try out the other restaurants, I suggest you make reservations at guest relations on the day you check in!
Gift shop is over priced. You can find the same items out in the town at a significantly lower price. The town and craft market are walking distance from the hotel if you want to go shopping and shop for some cool souvenirs and crafts.
THe entertainment at night was ok. You can see that the entertainment team tries really hard to put on a variety of entertainment during the week. There is always a list of activities posted for each day.
The staff was friendly and very helpful. I could not find the 'ice cream' and when I stopped one of the workers to inquire, she left what she was doing and waled with me to make sure that I found it. When I asked another worker about purchasing some local fruit. He told us the best time and location to purchase the fruits. We had very friendly servers at breakfast and by day 2, they knew what we needed at breakfast and brought it right over as soon as we would sit down. Overall I'm happy we booked and stayed at this resort and we look forward to going back again with family and friends."

Everyday our balcony door had to b left open because the smell was bad. I am used to staying in nice accommodations, this was not what I was used to. "The resort was fantastic. The only thing that I would have changed is that I would not have upgraded for an ocean view for $500. The resort view shows the pool, and the ocean. The ocean view shows the ocean behind the loud cooling towers and rooftops of buidlings. It's also a 2 hour bus ride from the airport, so be sure to get a transfer voucher for a good, reputable bus company before leaving for your trip."

"My wife and I just returned from a 9 day stay at SJG where we had a ton of fun. I would recommend this resort in you enjoy pool time, good drinks, pool slides, games by the pool, music and a great spa. If you keep a positive outlook, you will probably enjoy your stay; if you are looking to pick out the negative in everything you do then you will not enjoy it (but then again, every place has negative aspects). From what I've seen and heard, I don't think any of the rooms are anything you would love but it was a clean place to sleep and we had a good view of the bay. I would recommend visiting dunn's river EARLY in the morning and on a day with no cruise ships; it got way too busy after 10:30am with no cruis ship but we got there at about 9:00. SJG is a 2 hour drive from Montego Bay."

"We just came back from Jamaica. This resort is def in need of updates. It was built in 1974 and you can feel it in the South Tower, which is where we were.The linens on the beds and towels etc. are very worn and need to be replaced. We went with a group 'five other rooms' and all complained that the patio doors were almost inoperable. If it weren't for my husband, I wouldn't have been able to go out on the patio at all. We paid for beach front and were given a room that gave you a view of the ocean but from afar. Our view was of rooftops of all the other buildings on the resort. We ask to be moved but were told that our room on the 11th floor was 'ocean front' because you could 'see the ocean'. We did get moved after complaining again on the second day. On the bright side, the staff were very nice and friendly. The food was probably a 7 out of 10. The resort was very clean and as I said staff were friendly."

"The trip started out with VERY POOR experience of flight cancellation/rebooking by SPIRIT at O'hare. We were rebooked on an American flight via Miami with an additional overnight hotel stay and expenses. Not sure if we are going to be reimbursed for that. Never going to take a trip online if SPIRIT is the airline in the package. We lost one day of our vacation.
Sun Jamaica is an older facility that shows its age and not any recent renovation as described. We did not get the King room with Ocean view as requested even after promises and waiting for two days. The restaurants had the SAME menu every day and almost NO vegetarian choices.
On he positive side- I was able to reach the agent quickly when my flights were cancelled and he promised one day refund of resort charges. Hope I don't have to argue on that. Any help with SPIRIT for reimbursement of expenses for the unplanned hotel stay in Miami will be appreciated. The ticket agent was rude and not helpful at all."

"Just returned from the sunset grande Ochoa rios. Very nice resort. Nice beach. Weather was beautiful. The only gripe I have was the waiting in lines for drinks at the bar. Then get to the front and they tell us they have run out of red stripe. Happened a few times during our week there. The workers there were very polite and did their best. We stayed in a cabana room which was very nice and close to the pools and ocean. I would defintly stay in one again."

"Me and my husband recently went to this resort for 4 days for my birthday. The food was decent. The daily entertainment was wonderful and the pools and beach were very clean. The rep at the airport was very nice and our trip went smoothly. My only complaint was that the hotel could've done better on its promises. We paid for a couples dinner and was promised certain things that were not fulfilled. The next day we complained and were promised to be compensated at dinner that evening and that didn't happen either. All in all we had a nice vacation."

I felt really safe with security at night and during the day so people couldn't approach you on the beach. My boyfriend and I booked this trip so last minute and it was awesome. "The overall stay barely met my expectation the room was extremely basic even though it was an Ocean View booking. Some of the issues that I found with the resort were the bulky television set inside the bedroom with a faulty remote control, insufficient towels, elevators that took an extremely long time to take you from point 'A' to 'B', a dripping Air Condition Unit, a number of stray cats lingering all around and the meal particularly the local meals needed to say more of Jamaica."

"The place is ok as location and potencial, it lacks deeply in mainteinance, the structure is kept just suficient. It is not more than a 3 star place. Internet not available in the rooms only in the lobby and kind of slow and expensive.
Lack of mainteinance on beach equipment. things are kept to sufficiency not to excelency. Food quality is low, the restaurant system is very poor in the menu and quality. The italian one is really terrible they do not know how to cook a simple pasta dish. Staff on the opposit was polite and helpfull. In general if you like Jamaica there are many better places to go."

"The resort is undergoing a face lift and not all of the rooms are what is presented on the site. When we arrived to the resort, it was after 11:30pm.. We were not pleased with the room because it was not what we saw on the site. However, we were told that we would be given a room change first thing the next day. Without any complications, we were changed to a new room that had undergone a face lift and we were pleased. The customer service at Sunset was excellent....We got everything that we requested and everyone that we encountered was pleasant and accommodating. The food was good and we enjoyed the town of Ocho Rios; we were not restricted to just the resort. In every situation, it's what you make it and because of the customer service, I will make Sunset my place to stay in Ocho Rios every trip to Jamacia. One suggestion is that they continue to improve the esthetics of the Resort. Overall, my boyfriend and I had a wonderful time."

This was my second time at Sunset Jamaica Grande and I was disappointed in the service at the hotel. They have lowered the quality and cleanliness of the resort. Their towels and bed sheets are not clean. My boyfriend and I both broke out in rashes from using the towels at the hotel. Also the entertainment sucked. They stop hiring quality performers to entertain the guests. Instead they had their staff members get up on stage and do the same thing every night."

"I will never return to this hotel. The rooms are not what the website shows. You do not get your return voucher back unless you agree to be sold to. Even then, it took us the entire trip to get it back! The rooms are broken down, chips in the paint, and furniture, and our beachfront hotel was barely a great view, more of the hotel and the water slide than the beach. The staff especially in the restaurants resented being there, and the staff never corrected anything we needed done. It was pretty much a broken down cruise ship. The kids liked the pool, but none of the adults in our party will ever come back.
The wedding was okay, but I found out she did not get many of the things she requested, and it was stressful to her. She wishes she had chosen a different hotel
This is not a four star hotel by any means. The location is nice, but there are so many others to choose from. Don't make the mistake we made. It gets worse the longer you stay.."

"The reviews we read before going were very mixed so we went with the assumption things might not be perfect however they were much worse than we could have expected. The worst thing about our experience was how rude the staff treated us. If that was not bad enough the food at the buffet was terrible. I think my kids ate burgers 3 times a day as everything else was barely edible.
The only positive think I can say was the entertainment staff went out of their way to try to make you happy. If it wasn't for them we probably would have checked out early. The location of this resort is great and the resort itself has great potential but whoever is running this place should be replaced as soon as possible.

"Apparently the Sunset Jamaica does not live up to the reputation of the Jamaica Grande of yesterday - Either the new owners don't want to spend money to compete with the other resorts or they just don't care. Upon check-in we had to wait way after 3pm to get out room. The couple that were traveling with us wanted 2 beds but got 1 bed in the room. The food was okay but repetitive. Aparentyl there wasno room service. Several of the food stations closed early. The staff well let's say if you are an American women please do not have the female staff help you - because there is no love there. I have never been overlooked so much in my life. Now when my Jamaican husband was around then it changed - he got excellent service and I was there for the ride. A few days into our stay we wanted a roll away for our room for a child. I paid for the child in the morning and when we came in that night it still had not been delivered. We did not get the roll away until 11pm that night. I then got a call the following morning to see if it was delivered...really!!! Entertainment was great - it was fun. Please bring back the Jamaica Grande of yesterday!!!"

"The worst travel experience I've ever had. The check-in staff was not helpful. Reservations were not as paid for. The resort quality was extremely poor. Our rooms ranged from average to extremely poor. Pools were dirty. Staff at the South Beach Restaurant were extremely rude. Problems started upon check-in. The woman who checked us in was unfriendly and had an issue with checking in our party. Rooms were not as reserved, children were placed on separate floors from their parents and the hotel didn't have other rooms available. We changed rooms among ourselves so parents and children could be on the same floor. We did this because the representative said it was too much work for her to make the changes in the system. I got to my room, and the door appeared to have been kicked in. The lock didn't work, the phone didn't work and there weren't any linens in the room. I had to take my bags back down to the lobby as the phone didn't work. Instead of changing my room, they sent a maintenance crew up to fix the door. They had to fix the hinges. Housekeeping came up to clean the room but said no towels were available (it was after 5:00 PM). The housekeeper did search out and find me one set of towels. Twice more during my 5 day stay I did not have towels after housekeeping cleaned the room. Most of the staff were kind and helpful with the exception of a few people but the resort in general was a mess. I had stayed at this resort years ago and it was amazing. Things have changed greatly. We were at the resort for a family wedding and so we made the best of things but not one person in our party of 18 would ever return to this resort."

I had a excellent time. The staff, maids, and chefs were extemely friendly.
I was really amazed on how the maids kept my room tighty and the pool water was always clear and clean. The entertainment was excellent every nite.
The food was so so, considering they serve mostly the same items every nite. Overall, I really enjoyed myself for the first time in another country.

The hotel is outdated. The rooms need a makeover badly. The rooms smelled musty and moldy with no ventilation thats not good for anyone with health issues. Let's talk about something that should be important to us all. You a million dollar business how the Hell you do not supply SEAT COVERS IN THE PUBLIC BATHROOM, with hundreds of people in and out that is real unsanitary, just plain NASTY, you have bodily fluid over the seat and the hotel Guest Relation Manager advise me that other hotels do stock this product. WHAT'S wrong with this picture, I would hope an establishment like this would CARE about their Guest well being but thats definitely not the case PITYFUL A major Pet Peve for me. While I am speaking about Guest Relations I was appalled by the hotel staff how they treated their guest."

"The TV set is at least 30 years old. The beach is pitiful. If you walk 15 ft into the water, the only thing is very thick sea weed. All the fast food is heavy with fillers other than meat., You must wait 30 to 40 minutes to check into hotel. The rooms are horrible, poorly appointed. The furniture over 30 years old. Shortage of wash clothes. The building is falling down. Maintenace very poor. Elevators is scary. I will never visit this hotel again."

"Nearly everyone we encountered was friendly and courteous. However, if you want mediocre food (even at the 'specialty restaurants'), off-brand watered down drinks, pool decis that are potholed and burn your feet, this is the resort for you. Why you must reserve the specialty restaurants a day ahead is a question since none were even close to capacity.
The resort is centrally located so you can walk into town and visit the shops and restaurants. Soni Plaza is very nice tho the shops seem to carry the same merchandise.
All in all I very much wish I had reserved a more upscale all inclusive that arent that far away and offer free shuttle service into town and far better amenities.

"The only problem we had is that the slide's height requirement was not mentioned anywhere and the slide was the main reason we booked at this hotel. My Son was one inch too short and was not allowed on the slide even tho I was willing to sign a legal disclaimer. That was disappointing fOr him. The only other thing to point out is there is a reef separating the hotel's beach from the ocean so if u like to jump in the waves this is not the place for you as it is really more like swimming in a lagoon...great for snorkeling! Not so much for wave jumping as there are no waves!"

"My trip was overall a great experience. it was hot but worth the trip & experience. meet a lot of friendly people there, especially the locals. the resort was beautiful. the food was pretty good, had several things to choose from...the only thing is that if you wanted to eat at the more upscale restuarants you needed to make reservations as early as possible because they do fill up. the staff was very friendly. there was a driver named Mark that was awesome. he took us to different places and always came back on time to get us as promised...i think that was awesome. some days the room didnt get cleaned til late in the day but other than that everything was great. i would go again."

"I did enjoy my 5 days and 4nights in Jamaica overall! I also traveled to mexico all inclusive which there 'all' inclusive is better value. Especially as far as drinking goes, mexico my resort had One bar that was 24hrs and you have a mini bar (Fridge) in your room and is restocked of beer daily which is included in your inclusive. And the bars didn't open until 10 or later and all were closed by 2 am. For a person who likes to start with a bloody mary in the morning and who doesnt really sleep in both were not good things. Also mexico all inclusive includes tips etc which so does the jamaican all inclusive. I don't mind tipping if i feel someone who deserves it. However i don't like the fact that at this resort the bell staff which i did not request grabbed my bag and took it and me to my room and then like in the movies stood there waiting and expecting a tip. which i did finally tip just to get him to leave. That was my only bad experience with the staff but most of them seemed to expect something even though the all inclusive is suppose to include your gratuity. Maybe they arent paid as well as staff in mx i dont know. The resort it's self was very nice atmosphere. Clean and the food was excellent. I also had some staff that just treated me well and talked and smiled and i enjoyed my time speaking with them and how they served or treated me so i tipped them. Pools were very nice and clean and the beach areas were well kept."

"One of the WORST resorts I've EVER been to. OLD Stinky Hotel. It's a Dinosaur Needs a Total makeover and new staff. Pool chairs dirty old & moldy. One of the pools should be called 'Staff Pool' only. Apparently the staff is allowed to bring there family and friends to swim & eat for free. The locals are allowed to walk around at will? It's hard to tell who works for the hotel & who doesn't? (scary) The service sucks! And my email account ws hacked into because I used there wifi. I'm calling all of my accounts now to see what else has been hacked into. I wish I had the power to take stars away. I will give it 1.5 stars NOT a 4 star as listed. Oh?! And everyone I met had nothing but complaints on top of complaints! Run!!!!"

"This was a great experience. The only down fall was the food. At lunch, we could bearly find anything to eat. Which sometimes difficult from breakfast to dinner. We talked with many guest who felt the same way. My last night we to go for an Italian dinner with in the hotel. We made reservations however by accident my daughter threw away the reservation slip. I am not sure why they did not have it on the paper but they did not have 'good faith' and let us in. I could not believe they did not believe the customer and they were only 1/3 full. This was the one event that did put negative view on the staff. When I asked from guest services the owners name they would not give it to me. However I did get the owner and I will write him to share that experience. Overall, the place was great and there is so much to do. I would recommend the resort but wished they step up the food services with more healthy choices too."

"I called the hotel staff 3 times before we arrived to make sure we had connecting rooms for our family of 5. We had our children traveling with us and it was very important that there would be a door connecting our 2 rooms. Well... when we arrived they had us booked in 2 separate rooms, after a sour face, a bunch of lies and a bad attitude from the hotel desk clerk saying it wasn't possible and a huge run around we finally got a hold of the manager. He did finally give us connecting rooms after an hour of total hardship! BEWARE you will get treated harshly from this hotels staff!!! Also Bus ride from airport is very long, about 2hrs..."

"IT WAS MY FIRST TIME GOING TO JAMAICA. ITS NICE, ITS TROPICAL. THE HOTEL DECOR IS NICE I ENJOYED IT. THE BED AND PILLOW WERE GOOD. THOUGH THE PILLOW COULD OF BEEN A LIL SOFTER. "For our honeymoon, my wife and I spent a week here. Things kicked off poorly as our flight was cancelled. They allowed us to extend our stay for a day at no additional charge, as well as move our check in date to the following day. Upon arriving, we were greeted by a beautiful lobby, lacking walls but covered by a high canopy allowing views of the ocean and the moutains. As we waited in line to check-in, a staff member was walking around offering up cups of fruit punch to all new arriving tenants. We arrived almost 4 hours before check-in time, but after guiding us down to the buffet for lunch, we were told we would be able to get our room right after they got it prepared. We had lunch in the main dining room, which is a buffet filled with Jamaican cuisine as well as different international foods. The menu changes daily and there is sure to be something there for everyone. We then proceeded to make a dinner reservation at one of the resort's 5 star restaurants. They have a Jamaican restaurant, a Caribbean-American hybrid, Italian and Chinese. The Chinese place was simply phenomenal, but all were full of unique flavors and lovely dishes. The meals at these places are also included in your all-inclusive package, and it is definitely 5 star dining. After making the reservation, we got our room key and walked into a lovely room with a view of the ocean as well as the mountains and rainforest. It was a breathtaking view to say the least. The room was cleaned daily by an always friendly housekeeping crew. There are numerous bars scattered about throughout the resort, all willing to make any kind of drink you can imagine. There are also 2 grills which serve up delicious snacks like cheeseburgers, fries, hot dogs and jerk chicken. The beach is phenomenal and is the largest stretch of private beach in Jamaica stretching almost 2 miles. There's plenty to do including kayaks, snorkel equipment and giant floating rings to just sit on out in the ocean. The 5 pools were always clean and very comfortable. There were 2 jacuzzis, but unfortunately we weren't able to relaly enjoy them as it seemed to be the hang out place for the young children. The resort is literally a 2 minute walk from tons of duty free shopping areas and a craft market if you prefer to bring home some of the souvenir-type things that the locals make. (There are some beautiful wood carvings that you can find there, at unbeatable prices). Finally...what makes this place stand out so much are the staff members. No matter who you go and speak with, they are the friendliest people you'll ever meet who are willing to do almost anything to satisfy the customers. As an example, we realized after getting there that our toothpaste was running rather low. We looked in the gift shop but they didn't sell that. So, a bit dejected, we went back up to our room and housekeeping happened to be cleaning at the time. We asked the housekeeper where to go to get toothpaste, and she just gave us a brand new tube that had been left in a previous room. That's really just the tip of the iceberg though...the people there will do anything in their power to make sure you enjoy your stay, and with such a wonderful resort, enjoying the time is very easy to do."

"Not to much to do at the resort if you have kids. just two water slides. more for adults than kids. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would not go back. The pools were no deep. the ocean was not clear. no waves. my son likes to play in the ocean and the waves were like that of a lake. chairs by the pool are a joke. we never had a chair. i just wanted to sit not even lay out and watch my son swim i couldnt even do that. i had to stand."

"The resort should be closed down for serious renovation of guest accommodations. I had the displeasure of changing rooms twice the first room was in the North Tower (awful smell) the second room was in the South Tower the ceiling fell down room #718 and of course the floor was flooded needless to say this was far more than an inconvenience it was dangerous and a health hazard. On a positive note the location is ideal and the staff under terrible conditions do their very best . My vacation was seriously adversely impacted and I was greatly disappointed. Thank you for the opportunity to voice my opinion."

"Let me start off by stating a fact. This is not a 4 star resort.With that said I want to give a full review. It wasn't a bad trip, just not what we expected so we spent the first few days disappointed. (stayed 03/18 - 03/24/12) Service - 90% of the staff are really nice and want to please you. The issues with this resort are with how it is run/set up. Food - We arrived at 3:30 pm on a Sunday and were starving. (traveled since 5 am) Nothing was open but a grill on the far north end. They only offered burgers, jerk chicken and grilled cheese with fries. Since this was the only food available on the entire property we spent 30 minutes in line with 100 other guests trying to get food. The international buffet is obviously were they are pushing their guests to get food. It is just that, an ok international buffet with limited hours: 7 am - 10 am breakfast, 12:15 - 2:00 pm lunch, 6:30 pm - 10 pm dinner. There are no snacks anywhere on the property like other 4 star All-Inclusives so try explaining to a 2 year old when they are hungry that nothing is available. If you want a drink with your international buffet that isn't something you can get yourself (juice, soda, beer) be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes before someone even asks if you need anything. Dinner reservations are a joke and hard to come by. The first 2 nights we were there they were booked already. You have to line up by 7;30 am for reservations for the next night and they don't start taking them until 8:30 am. (We arrived at 8;24 am the first day that we could possibly get a reservation and barely got one since the line was so long) The restaurants are better than the buffet but not outstanding. Service is good at the restaurants. Drinks - again, prepare to stand in line 15 minutes anytime you want a drink. They have plenty of bars, they are just not open or staffed. No one will bring you drinks when you are at the pool/beach (unlike other 4 star All Inclusive resorts) There is no fridge in your room with basic drinks like other 4 star All Inclusive resorts. Elevators - be prepared to wait at a minimum 5 minutes everytime you need an elevator. Other times you need to go opposite of where you want to go just to get an elevator space. Hotel rooms - again, not 4 star. Needs updating throughout. Linens are old school scratchy bedding. Bathrooms need major updating. (again most people would say why do you care when you shouldn't be in your room, with a 2 year old you need a room for down time, nap time and time out time) Communal areas - are better than the hotel room area (lobby, bars, open air buffet area) Pools/beaches - gorgeous views, plenty of pool space, good amount of beach space. However, good luck getting a chair. People actually go down at 7 am and put their towel on a chair to hold them for the day. The reason why management shouldn't allow this is that they have plenty of chairs for guests that are actually on the beach or at the pool at that moment. (more than half always had towels holding them anytime we were down there) Thus, we never got a chair the entire time we were there. (sat on the sand or just got out of the pool and left) Recommendation - I wouldn't recommend this resort to my friends. Most want a true All Inclusive 4 Star Resort. However, if a family wanted to go and couldn't afford to pay for their children (my daughter stayed free, just had to pay her flight), this is a good way to get a value vacation that is pre-paid. No need to worry about massive amounts of money once you get there. They have basic food to feed you and plenty of pool space to keep you occupied."

"We just got back from our trip in Ocho Rios. We were there 03/18 - 03/24/12. I want to give a fair review. I will start off with stating a fact. This resort is not a 4 Star All Inclusive Resort. It is a 3 star and at best 3.5 star All Inclusive. Even the majority of the resort's guests which are Canadian were aware that this is a 3 star resort. (we are from the U.S.) We have stayed at many All Inclusive resorts in Mexico. This did not live up to those expectations. Service - 90% of the staff there are excellent and really try. However, how they have things set up or run is where the issue lies. Food- We arrived on a Sunday around 3:30 pm. We were starving from traveling since 5 am and all they had open or available for food is a grill on the far north end that served burgers, jerk chicken, grilled cheese and fries. Since nothing else was open we were in line with 100 other people trying to get food. Open air buffet had limited hours. Breakfast was from 7 am to 10 am, lunch from 12:15 - 2:00 and Dinner from 6:30 - 10 pm. It was mostly international focus. Most All Inclusives I have been to try and replicate U.S. breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will not find food available throughout the resort like other All Inclusives. (snacks, chips/salsa, etc) Trying explaining this to a 2 year old. Dinner reservations at one of their 4 'restaurants' is another joke. Our first 2 nights we were not able to get them. (already booked) They book 1 day out for the next night. I had to get up the guest services desk by 7:30 am for reservations that started at 8:30 am. My first day we almost didn't get reservations and I was there by 8:24 am. The Chinese restaurant, Ginger Lily, is the best. All others are better than the buffet but so so. (service is not a problem) Drinks - again 20 other people vying for 1 bartenders attention. The resort has plenty of bars throughout, just not staffed. Staff will not bring you drinks when you are at the beach/pool. (another difference from 4 star All Inclusives) At the open air buffet it will take at least 10-15 minutes for someone to bring you a drink other than what you can get yourself (coffee, juice, beer, soda) Elevators - expect to wait 10 minutes for an elevator, every time you need one, sometimes you have to ride opposite of what you need just to get a space Rooms - again, not 4 star. Smells musty/mildwey. Balconies need work, floors need to be updated in bedroom area, limited seating area, bedding needs to be updated (scratchy/old school) and bathrooms need massive updating to be 4 star, hallway carpet outside of room is smelly/dingy Communal areas are updated to 4 star level. Pools/beaches are beautiful. Towel exchange is horrible for those staying on the south side, (changed out our towles 1 time during the entire week because of this) Beach chairs are another joke. People get up at 7 am to put their towel on a chair. We are not those people so we had no chair ever. Had to sit on the sand or just swim and get out of the pool. I don't think this is because there isn't enough chairs. Everytime I looked half the chairs were empty/just had a towel on it. Management really needs to fix this. Spa services were good"

"Overall, we had a great time. Good food, good entertainment, good watersports, great staff (everyone), and of course great sunshine. We are a family of 4 and this resort suited us. There were also singles and couples there as well. The resort is very spacious so if you were more into quiet you could stay to the south side and if you wanted music and fun you stay more towards the north side. Plenty of bars and food available at all times. This is not a 5 star by any means, but for a little bit tired 3.5 star it certainly did the trick for keeping our boys occupied. Never did I hear 'I'm bored.' The waterslide was pretty fun also."

"The food I found poor, the hamburgers, jerk chicken and fries were good. The staff was really friendly, helped out when ever you had a question. Not a pool person, but I did notice that the swim up bar service took a long time. We stayed in the cabana rooms, lovely view, ocean right outside the door. Loved the location, we would go for walks and there is a lot to see and do outside of the resort that you could walk to. Overall we would go back again because of the location, it's not like I starved. More seafood on the menu would be nice."

"You make the best of what you have so we had a blast in jamaica with plenty of pleasant reminders of the old addage ' you get what you pay for'. We thought we had a great deal. $2400 for the 2 of us , air , tax all inclusive for 6 nights so yes it was affordable however be prepared for the following and you;ll have a good time if you dont need to be pampered. Our upgraded Beachfront Cabana room was 'over booked' , by lots, tons of people got the same letter upon arrival so we would up with a room in the north tower with 2 double beds, not acceptable so we complained till we at least got a king bed. Then be prepared to get up early daily if you want a shot at eating at one of the 3-4 restaurants as you have to preregister daily in the lobby at 8:30 am wich turns into a mob scene. If you dont get a towel first thing , drip dry all day and if you dont save your spot on the mostly broken beach chairs youll never get a lounge chair in a good spot after 8am. expect 8 cruise ships a week to block to beatiful view of ocho rois. If you want to get up early and simply relax by the pool or ocean with some aggrevation then this place is for you as the next tier of resort up is a couple grand more from what i could see. "

"We had a wonderful time. The staff was extremely courteous and always with a smile. The beach cabanas are DEFINITELY worth the extra money, I highly recommend it. They were fully remodeled and right there to beach access. The food was average, although if you want real Jamaican food you have to go out in the town (go with a tour guide) The best part was you could stay all day at the resort or if you want to get more of the culture you can walk into town. I would definitely stay at this resort again."

"After reading some reviews prior to going on our vacation, I was a bit worried about our selection of hotel. Thankfully, upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised. Our room was clean and well kept, our view was beautiful, the pools and beach were lovely, and the food and drinks were great. We enjoyed ourselves so much we hated to see the week end. A few 'not so good' comments: Some of the staff were really not friendly. They acted as if we were inconveniencing them. Also, going out to the market or on a tour we were met with constant requests for 'tips' even after giving tips. Some of our tour guides were very demanding and a few of the locals at the market were plain mean and threatening, actually calling my friend 'a liar' and following us around all over when she informed them she had spent all the money she brought with her that day. It was very rude. So to the point, at the resort everything was 'irie.'"

"For what I spent, this is a good resort to take a family of 3 children. The beach was nice and nearby. Food was okay - not much variety. Walking and shopping outside of the resort was good and safe for the family. If we had more time I venture out more. Bus transfer from airport to resort was too long for me, 2 hour drive, with multiple stops to drop off other people from other resorts along the way. It was the same for the trip back to the airport. The Sunset Jamaica Grande is the last stop and it is also the first stop to pick up so expect a long bus ride. I would recommend this to a friend, but only if it was purchased at a discount."

"This was the worst vacation I have had in my life. The hotel was fair, however every meal I had for the 7 days of my trip I had to have with CATS that lived on the property. I like pets, just allergic to cats. Food was okay just not enough carribean food on the menu for breakfast luch or dinner. Rooms need a up lift as well. Will never return again!!!!"

"Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa for the entire Ochio Rois Locals. I was there for 7 days, the workst week ever for an All Inclusive Resort.
House keeping, a total mess, our rooms were not clean upon check in. There was hair all over ther floors, not swept or moped. The faucet in the vanity was barely running had to use the bath-tub taps for oral care.
I stayed in room 1110, room was very dirty. Only when I reported this to the reception staff, I got clean linens on the bed, Shower cutains were changed, and the floor was sweep and mopped. The following day I had to tip the housekeeping lady to make sure the room was cleaned, after day three, she stopped, because I did not tip her anymore, and that's when the shower gel and shampoo stopped. Had to request these items twice daily.
My time there was horrible, the locals were like pigs in the dining area, as if they never saw food before. On Christmas day, Constant bumping and pushing for the food. At one point I even saw locals smuggling out food and going up to the buffet and eating from the displays, (pigs) We the tourists were shoved to the side.
I would never re-visit this resort or suggest anyone to stay ther not even for free.
Ginger Lily A-la-catre restaurant, the food was extremely salty with very little Asisn flavours. poor performance, by staff, they did not know how the item on the menu tasted.
The hottubs and pools were filled with misbehaving locals running wild all day long.
We felt like we were in a Two-star motel.
The only time I got help was by tipping the staff in an All Inclivive Resort.

"I had many issues with this place. I would not go back to this place or tell me friends about it. I have been to Jamica 5 times with my family.
1. The people are not friendly at all
2. The rooms are old and it was not what I wanted. I asked them to change it but it just got worse
3. The served the same food almost every day
4. The staff didn't smile or even talk with my children
5. The staff never came by to our family at breakfast, lunch or dinner. At times I would have to get up to get my own coffee, and soda.
6. All the staff did was clean the tables
7. The resort was pretty and lots of pools, but the played the same CD for 5 days long at the pool. It was sicking to heard a repeat of the same music everyday.
8. The DJ was really bad and didnt even care to speak with anyone at the pool side.
9. The were birds flying all around inside the food area and picking on plates
10. The place is pretty but I will never go back there again EVER"

"I had the best time at this place. No doubt one of the best experiences by far. It was my second time in Jamaica and after staying at Sunset Jamaica Grande, I don't think I will ever stay anywhere else and definitely coming back. The staff, the room, the every night performances and entertainment, food off the chain. Recommend it to anyone - couples, families with kids & grandparents! 5 min walk to the city of Ocho Rios is a big plus, no cab needed. Enjoy!"

"Traveled to SJG on 7/8-7/15/2012 with 26 other family members. I was pleasantly surprised on how things turned out after reading some of the disappointing reviews.
From the airport to the resort we made only 1stop to let a couple off at another resort that looked very beautiful, so I was definitely anticipating what my resort looked liked during the 1hr and 1/2 ride (***the driver did a good job filling us in on Jamaica's history and site seeing). When we pulled up to the resort our eyes almost popped out of our head, the open air lobby was BEAUTIFUL to say the least.
Check in was fast and easy for me the room was ok (better than what was expected) we had to switch rooms once due to the AC not working properly but whatever 'NO WORRIES' it's a vacation.
The pools were great every inch of the place was surrounded by water, the kids loved that. The buffet was good the first night for dinner then the next it did get repetitive thank god for the restaurants. Breakfast buffet and beach grills were amazing, trust me no one could starve with all the food the resort had to offer.
I would not recommended this place for couples without kids looking for peace and quiet but if you do have kids and know how to kick back and have a good time this is definitely the resort for you!"

"We had great time in jamaica , overall the hotel was good just they need to work more on their entertaiment program and not using just the staff members to go on the stage instead hiring professionals. Also they did not have enough towels for the rooms. Also i think all the rooms need a face lift. But the staff members are everywhere very polite,friendly and help us a lot i was so happy about it that i gave one of them $50 tip. And the Taxi service we were not happy at all , as i booked for the taxi service they gave me different price on the phone as they charged me on my credit card,the service in jamaica was not good at all and at the end they told us the pick up time fo the airport is 9:00 am but we had 2:35 pm flight and the distance to the airport was just 1 hour. They came with a big bus for pick up and stoped by 6 other hotels and the trip to airport took us 2 hours and also waiting at airport more than hour instead staying at our hotel."

"The Sunset Jamaican Grande was everything and more than I expected for my family. The staff at the hotel was just awesome and we never felt like we we're in any danger at any time. Even when we went on tours we felt safe at all times. There are a few little things I would caution you one about the hotel but nothing that should make you not want to stay.
The elevators are slow and we were on the 12 floor in a suite so it sometimes took a little time waiting for them. The food was just okay but plenty of it and I would stay away from the 'Italian' restaurant, trust me on this one, I'm Italian and I know good Italian food, this was not it!! Over all I give this all inclusive hotel a 4.5 out of 5. I have two children 15 and 13 and they had a blast, the waterslide was a lot of fun too!! "

"The pools were beautiful, well maintained, clean and plenty of them. However- they were not deep.. so mostly stand and cool off type pools. The staff was a mix. They were either extremely helpful and very fun to be around.... or they were quite standoffish. The 3 restaurants were nice.. but would not place the food in the 5 star category. However the display was fantastic. Difficulty was in making reservations. You had to do it the day before and if you were away from the resort on tour- you were out of luck. The restaurants were never filled to capacity.. so not sure why they cut off the reservations so early. The buffett was plenty of food- however the menu never changed or very rarely at best. To eat the same breakfast and lunch for 5 straight days was way low on my liking scale. Dinner at least was broken up by other reservations. The beach is very very small with a limited area for swimming. Definitely NOT the beautiful pictures you see of long sandy beaches in Jamaica. And the ocean side is off limits.. so basically you are swimming in a small bay.... with seaweed and crabs. Not to mention the endless people walking the beach to ask you if you want your hair braided or want to rent motor vehicles. Interrruptions were enough to send us back to the pool. I can see that the resort in its day was most likely a very beautiful place to vacation. Now it is in dire need of renovation- the rooms and exterior paint, etc . The rooms smelled of mildew that you could not get rid of. We spent the entire vacation with our balcony room door open. Thank god the weather was great! The sun was the best part- which of course the resort cannot take credit for. Most people we spoke to were highly disappointed in the resort. This was a dud and think you should seriously consider either taking it off your list of vacation spots..or tell the truth about what people are going to get. The photos on line are from days gone by..... and do not represent what you are going to get once you arrive. Untimately vacations are about relaxing and the company... so on that good note- it was nice. However I will not return to this resort or recommend it to anyone. "

"Nightmare not Vacation!!!!! Arrived at 1230 pm. Unavailable room.. Not ready for check until 3pm. Told to check in half an hour. Repeated checks every half an hour until 4pm!! Slept on lobby furniture until room was ready. Was not offered a hospitality room by staff!.....finally was given a different room..will get to that later! Grand foyer entrance.. Not appealing or grand! No ambience for a 'grand' hotel! Bird droppings on the furniture and floors! Back to my room which I booked as an ocean view but had a view of rooftops! Wow! I could have stayed home for that !!!!! Moisture on tiled floors .. Slippery and dirty ! Electrical outlets for appliances in bathroom don't work! A/C too cold. No control unless the sliding door to the mini veranda is opened to regulate the temperature!!! No room service!!! No fridge or water in room! An old ice bucket for ice from the bars!!! No soaps, shampoo or conditioners!!!! Shower gel! Poor quality. Like that used in a car wash. No suds!!!!! Requested an extra blanket..., none! Still did not get it nor an apology that there wasn't any! Poor housekeeping. Under my bed had a film of dust. Not cleaned for days! Operator assistance for all outside calls... Poor! Several rings before anyone picks up!!!! What if there was a fire in my room? :-(((( Ok food..... Breakfast ok. Big deal eggs fruit and toast! No coffee jugs at the table. Service by cup when requested and sit and wait for it! Lol!! Not funny!! Repeat items from menu daily. Got to be very boring ! Bony fish with scales for dinner and lunch! Not a wedge of lemon at the buffet or wet bars!!! No wonder guests complain of diarrhea!!! Unable to get reservations at the onsite restaurants. No wonder!! Some friendly waiters. Others were either afraid to make a comment or were sarcastic!! No snacks in between meals except hamburgers and hotdogs. So much for watching what we eat!!! Had no choices!! Entertainment was poor. No poolside music except by the pool /:volleyball area!! I'm still waiting to hear Bob Marley or some good reggae music! Club Jamaica'n me Crazy was crazy! Sunset Jamaica Grande is in a prime location with beautiful views, very secluded beachfront property, close to town and shopping and other sites BUT Management of the hotel is very POOR! It was a return visit after five years, but it will be my last!! I will not recommend it to friends/family!!!"

"I just got home from spending 7 nights at the Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa in Ocho Rios. I felt the hotel needed updating in the lobby and the rooms were ok, but the old spreads on the beds were questionable and didn't look well kept. I like the fact that the hotel had enough going on to keep people busy. There are 5 pools, including a swim up bar. We mostly swam in the ocean, but I found that as you walked into the ocean there were holes that you could hurt your foot on, and there were sea urchins to watch out for. There were several people who stepped on urchins and had to go to the nurse. I personally was bit 4 times by jellyfish and also had to go to the nurse. It would be wise to take swim shoes if you choose to go to this hotel. The ocean floor could use some dredging and a layer of sand, there was a lot of sea grass also.
The breakfast buffet was very good, but the lunch and dinner buffets left a lot to be desired. A lot of re-purposed food was served, what was a vegetable dish the night before was now chicken chowmein the following day, there were lots of dishes that were re-purposed in a similar way . The hamburger and hot dog grilled was awful, the hamburgers were precooked and re-heated on the grill, they were hard and dry and the hot dogs didn't taste like any hot dog I've ever had, very mushy. There was a out door grill on the beach that served jerk chicken and bread????? thats all, jerk chicken and bread......tiny pieces of chicken with more bones than meat including chicken backs, the bread was good. There are 3 restaurants to choose from, La Diva, Ginger Lilly and the outdoor grill on the beach. We couldn't bring ourselves to eat at the buffet after the first couple of meals, so we made reservations at the restaurants for the rest of out stay. We had to get up at 8am to go down to the guest services desk to make reservations by 8:30, every morning and they only booked one reservation per day for the following day. The restaurants were mediocre at best. I ordered a calamari appetizer from La Diva and received 2 pieces of calamari, I asked the waiter if I could have a larger portion of calamari so he brought another 2 pieces and told me that the chef won't do more than that. Ginger Lilly and the beach grill were no better, the appetizers were minute. We found extremely small portions sizes in all three restaurants and you were not allowed to ask for more than two appetizers. The desserts were nothing to write home about.
I would not stay at this hotel again nor recommend it to my friends. The service was fine, the hotel itself was fine..... not great, some of the night entertainment was very good....but the food was the deal breaker for me. By the end of our stay, we didn't want to eat anywhere on the premises. This hotel would do well by upgrading the quality of the food and refurbishing the lackluster lobby along with upgrading the bed furnishings.

"We were treated wonderfully in every way. It was our honeymoon and my new wife had been to this resort for 22 years until her husband became ill and subsequently passed away. So, she was well-known there and the resport transferred us with no charge to one of their suites. Beautiful. As indicaetd the service and staff were in every way excellent. The resort needs to do som relatively minor repair work on some of the rooms, but not the suite we were in.
The advantae of this resort over many of teh others is that it is within short walking distance to Ocho Rios downtown and we like to get to meet and know the local people who are, generally, wonderful in every way.

"My new wife and I decided to spend our honeymoon at Sunset Jamaica Grande becuase this was her 22nd visit, as she and her deceased husband and, many times, their 3 children would stay there, the last time for a complete month. This was my first visit to Jamaica and to the Resort and we were treated wonderfully.
Upon learning that my wife was a long-time repeat visitor and that we were on our honeymoon, we were privided with a wonderful suit and every possible accomodation.
The food was quite good, especially the 'reservation' restaurants. the weather was perfect and the staff was so very helpful and friendly.
We discussed obtaining residency and retiring near Ocho Rios but given our age, the Jamaican Embassy advised we would not be eligible to obtain permanent residency. What a shame... We loved the people and the entire area.
Perhaps there is another option, althrough we did not have time to explore the possibilities. We heard that the Resort might be selling time shares and, if appropriate, we would like more information.
If not we will probably renew our wedding vows every year at the resort at about the same dates next year.
We highly recommend this Resort to anyone interested in a truly enjoyable vacation there and its one great advantage is that is is in close walking distance to Ocho Rios which we like, because we like to get to know the people, as that is one of the great things about the area. The people are wonderful !!!

"From the moment of check-in I sensed a problem! Although I had requested a handicap room ( clearly shown on my confirm sheet)_ 'none available' We requested a listing of the available TV channels, were told one would be brought to our room....not done! When we phoned Cust. 'No' Service, we were asked to come down for a copy. After waiting 25 minutes... 'sorry our copy is laminated, here take this pencil and paper and copy it!!' My wife looked for a hair dryer, none in the room, I asked for one, was told, we could have it for 'two hours' then return it!!
The room was 'spartan' at best! No clock, TV remote batteries were dead, I took two from my travel flashlight after waiting two hours for replacements, which never came!
We had to get our plastic room keys replaced three times!! No, we did not have them near a cellphone or credit cards!
There was no floor bath towel and the floor was slippery!
Whoever painted the rooms, hallways, etc must have used a mop! Also, on several occasions, lights in the elevator were out!!!
Making reservations at the 'restaurants' was a horrific nightmare!! Waiting in line for 30 minutes only to be told 'full' Nonsense!

"The grounds, pool and beach area were very nice. If you have been to a 3 star or above all inclusive resort, this would rate about 1.5. Rooms in the North Tower were poor at best. The South Tower rooms were nicer, but 1.5 star at best. Hotel buffet was lacking and the service was terrible (non existent). The specialty restaurants were OK, but nothing special. Unless you get a very cheap I would not recommend to anyone.
The hotel needs major repairs and perhaps new management."

"We stayed at the Sunset Grande in Ocho Rios. It was a long ride from the Montego Bay airport and the resort was ok. It was not as exciting as some of the other resorts and the food quality was not that great. The staff was ok and not too engaging. Overall it was nice for a 2 day trip but I would not recommed it for a long vacation."

"I have to say that this resort is strictly for the kids. It's a good resort to take the kids if you are on a budget. They have a lot of activities for the kids/teenagers. However, I did not enjoy the food too much or the entertainment. We were there for 7 nights and they kept having the same singer. They kept running out of jerk chicken, soda pop, beach towels. The room was okay and the A/C was cold enough to give you a frost bite:) The bathroom is very small and needs updating. Our oceanview room dispalyed a perfect picture of the water! No food is allowed in your room. There were cats roaming around the resort daily. It wasn't the worst resort but it surely wasn't the best. I will probably not go back. "

"Stayed at both the Sunset Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios and Sunset Spa and Resort. I liked them both for different reasons. Jamaica Grande great staff on the ball very helpful. I loved the Chinese restaurant as well as the Italian restaurant. The staff at Jamaica Grande was very engaging. They engaged the guests the hosts by the pool had games and contests that kept us entertained a very relaxed atmosphere. At Sunset Spa and Resort the food was great and the staff was friendly. I loved the Italian Restaurant. I think that there are qualities that they both have that they could both benefit from. "

"We had a lot of fun. The rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. The oceanview from the room was 'SPECTACULAR'! Had a couple not so good dishes, but overall the food was tasty. The Italian spot my favorite, even the service there was very good. The entertainment staff was very nice, but we couldnt get a decent game of pool or beach volleyball. That was disappointing. The game s library, great idea, print instructions from online to put in the boxes for those that want to try something new. Loved the huge chess and checker boards. "

"Just returned from my trip with my teenage grandsons. This trip was for them. Most reviews give you what there is to do for kids or for adults. I was concerned that teenagers would not enjoy the trip but boy was I wrong. They had a blast. They were able to have their own room key and were free to tour the resort on their own. They found lots of things to do from visiting with the locals to enjoying the nighttime activities (from the revues to the talent shows); they even wished they had joined in the talent activities. To my surprise, they really got into this trip and have not stopped talking about how much fun they had from climbing the Dunn's River Falls to snorkeling outside the resort to sluicing down the fabulous slide pm the property. They were able to meet other teens and hang out. They did not even miss their 'video games'
Our room was basic but clean and every request from staff was met promptly. This was an excellent value for the money and the boys are already planning their return trip."
