2012 Hurricane Season Policy (June 1 to November 30, 2012)
The special conditions and waivers will apply only to the affected destinations and as soon as, but not before, an official Hurricane Watch has been issued by the US National Hurricane Center:
- Evacuation: When in-house Guests are evacuated from the property, as a result of an actual Hurricane warning or as per instruction from the authorities, charges for the night(s) that Guests remain in the shelter will be waived. Once the Guests return to the hotel with basic services available (food, beverage, and lodging with running water and electricity) night charges as a normal stay.
- Guests in the hotel: If Guests remain in the hotel and basic services are not affected for more than 24 hours, charge as a normal day and no reimbursements will be made. If basic services are interrupted for more than 24 hours, charges of the nights where the basic services were not available will be waived.
- Forced Stay: Guests forced to remain longer than originally planned and the basic services of the hotel were available, a special distress rate will be defined. This distress rate will be charged directly to each guest on property, unless the Tour Operator confirms in writing that they will pay for their Guests extended stay.
- Cancellations, No-Shows, and Early departures: No penalty will be charged if due to an imminent hurricane threat.
Guests will have the option to reschedule their current trip to a different date or a different Riu property by covering the corresponding change in rates (if it applies)

"I was a little concerned with the negative comments about this resort, but I did not need to worry. This resort is outstanding. We had two ocean front rooms and the view from the balcony in both were breathtaking. The rooms were spacious and clean. They were a little musty but you are on the ocean in hot weather, what do you expect. The maids were there twice a day, once to clean and then at night for turn down service and to replace towels in the bathroom. There was plenty of hot water every time we showered, we actually had to turn it down sometimes because it was too hot. The air conditioning was great, and some nights we just opened the balcony doors and fell asleep with the sound of the ocean. The food was excellent. The first night there was shrimp and lobster tails on the buffet. What more can you ask for. One night was Jamaican night with all Jamaican cuisine. We were so happy with the buffet that we didn't try the jerk hut. We did eat at a specialty restaurant one night, and the food was good but we preferred the buffet. All the staff were friendly from the moment we arrived until the sad day when we had to leave. I had read comments that the staff were rude, we never encoutered that. They were all friendly. from the groundskeepers to the waiters to the staff at the front desk. Of course if you chose not to speak to them, they would respect your privacy and not start up a conversation. I suggest striking up a conversation with the staff, they are all lovely people. The vendors on the beach approached us on the first day and after a simple no thanks they didn't approach us again for the rest of the trip. We had such a great time we were very sorry that we had to leave. We will definitely be going back to this resort. Don't believe the negative reviews. I guess some people just can't be pleased."

"Just returned from Negril, here are my thoughts and comments about Jamaica. Staff: only about 10% of the staff was nice and appreciative about the touristism. Most staff look upset and not cheerfull. Waited about an hour for our luggage to be brought up and it never came we had to go back to the lobby and get it ourselfs. Hotel Rooms: Nice and housekeeping was great Food: Buffet really good food, desserts not so much, hotel had 5 restuarants that you had to make reservations for went to the steak house was GREAT, went to the Italian restaurant which wasn't good. Room Service: Ordered room service one day waited about 2 hours, called for status and they could not tell us needless to say never received food. Entertainment lacked, they would put on some shows if that is what you want to call it after dinner, needed better entertainment overall. The best part of the entire trip was the beach, water was better than the pool! Overall it was an interesting trip but would not return and spend that much money to receive that kind of service."

"What a disapointment! This was my THIRD stay at this exact hotel and I will not be back. Food was better than it was the last 2 times I visited, so definitely some improvement there but the staff was well, frankly, rude (with one exception; a female server/waitress who works the outdoor dinner section--she was fab!). I have been to Negril over a dozen times and have never encountered such poor customer service and general apathy from the staff. Perhaps someone told them the day we arrived that they were all losing their jobs? It sure seemed that way. No eye contact, no smiles, no hello. Bummer. Way different from my other 2 experiences there. It's forever redeeming quality? You cannot beat the beach at this place, incredible...stunning! My hope is that 98% of the employees take a quick break and be reminded how lovely it is to be in Jamaica with all that it has to offer."
