"This was our first trip to Sunset Beach and I have to say it was a very nice place. I do have some Pro's and Con's.
Pro's : The Staff were wonderful and very friendly. Always accomodating. The grounds and buildings were very nice and clean. The food and selections were always plentiful and a large variety.
Con's : In my opinion there should be an adults only pool. Such as the pool with the swim-up bar. There are children running wild without supervision everywhere and it can become annoying. The rooms could use some updating and I would recommend bringing a blow dryer if you use one.
I enjoyed my stay at this location, however I prefer the smaller resorts. I would stay here again if I were staying in Montego."

"Let's see....where to start. First of all, if you like shade when at the beach or the pool. well you better get up early to save a spot! Not too many shaded areas to 'relax' while at the beach or pool. The food was okay, we had a party of 16 and some of us were born in Jamaica and others knew of Jamaican food..the buffet had a least 'one' Jamaican dish for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Could be more variety. There is NO PATTIES at the grill or anywhere else on the property for that matter! The lobby was really HOT, they could put up some standing fans around the lobby after all, first impressions are important and that's where you wait for your room and when you're leaving. Bars needed more bartenders...they were definitely NOT in a rush to get to you. The children's club was out dated, wasn't friendly and inviting and forget about the tee club!! Never supervised at night, no DJ, can't play video games unless there is a staff member there...and only 2 pool tables...not much to do there. Nightly activities became hum-drum...not very entertaining or fun.....went to be by 10 every nite!! Positives, beach and water park was good, kids had fun. Inconsistency with if pool was open at nights or not, depended on who you asked but signs said pool was closed."

"My family and I went here on vacation. Between all of us we had 8 kids. The kids enjoyed the waterpark. Food was ok. Breakfast was pretty much the same every morning. Management and staff didn't seem to be on same page. Teen club was very disappointed as there was little to do and nothing organized. Although someone was to be there supervising the three times we went no one was there. The activites for the day was poorly advertised and had to get a towel to know what kids activites were since the only place they were listed was at the towel exchange area. The beach is beautiful but don't expect to find any shaded area near the pool area since there are only three in that area. Just know what you are getting when you go. If staff was more friendly and interacted more it would have made a big difference. Entertainment was not the best. Every night was the same thing. A band performing or a singer except for the talent show and the African drums, not much in way of entertainment for kids. If you are going for beach and waterpark and know not to have high expectations you will enjoy your stay."

"Definitely NO. Room = ok. Beds were hard!!! Bathroom's biggest downside = no vent. First day = no room service. The other days, room rarely got cleaned in the morning. Sometimes they were cleaning even at 4 or 5pm!!! So you have to decide if you either want to take a nap or have clean towels. Had issues with door keys twice.
Pool bar schedule 10am-6pm/
The music was not loud enough to be heard if you were sitting on the other side of the pool. Music selection = debatable. When someone says Jamaica you think reggae music. Well instead you have a piano guy that plays classical music. I'm on vacation. If I want culture, I'll go to the Opera!
Not enough pool activities. Pools no deeper than 4ft??? Wow. That was a shock. Pools definitely nasty. They were not cleaned sooner than 9 or 10 am!!! The pool boy told me they don't even change the water, they just treat the pools twice a day. I asked him if they change it at least once a month? He told me no. Gross. The water park opens only from 10am to 5pm. Really?
Only one restaurant and a grill. Food = blah. Expect a lot of chicken and bad fish. Luckily there were 3 a-la-carte restaurants. Light menu, out of certain specialties, but that is definitely a nice "break... from having the all-inclusive food every single day.
Beach? That's another story. Rocky, infested with jelly fish, sea weed/WILL NOT GO BACK, NOR RECOMMEND.

"Pros: Very nice place, ocean view is beautiful, food is nice and clean, people are very nice. The rooms have great service.
Cons: Prepare before you go. The prices are 3 times higher than in US. The ocean has lots of jelly fish in the size of a large plate. People there make $300 to $600 a month, and yet, the price for a bottle of water (500 ml) is over $2.00. The swimming with dolphins was a joke, all that money they charge for a few seconds with dolphins, 2 seconds of swimming and about 5 minutes (in a group of 7-8) watching how the dolphin dolphin sings and dances. On top of everything, they don't let you take photos or make movies, they sell photos for $65 and a video for $55, and 95% of that is not your kid.

"We stayed at the Sunset Beach Resort last week. While we had a wonderful time enjoying the beach, kayaking, and swimming, I would most likely not stay at this resort again. I highly recommend that this facility invest in some renovations to stay current with building codes. The hotel guest rooms in the high rise towers do not have exhaust fans in the bathrooms. Each room has a smoke detector, which is a good thing, except when the steam from a hot shower sets off the fire alarm system. We set off the alarm two mornings in a row. Eventually, guests conclude that an evacuation alarm is most likely due to steam, so nobody evacuates. If there were ever a real alarm, guests would be too complacent to evacuate. The hotel's solution is to adhere a tiny sign in fine print to the bathroom door asking guests to keep the door closed during and immediately after showering (keep in mind, there are no exhaust fans in the bathrooms). While smoking is not permitted inside the guest room, it is apparently allowed on the balcony. During our stay, a cigarette butt started a small fire on the wood shingle roof of the exercise room when a guest flicked a cigarette butt from their balcony. The staff quickly took care of this mishap with a fire extinguisher. I also noted that there are many outlets and junction boxes on the premises that were missing cover plates and weatherproof covers. For a place that's supposed to be family friendly, with kids running around, they should at least provide cover plates for exposed electrical wiring, and then perhaps provide GFI outlets for all of the outlets that are located in the pool areas and open walkways. Additionally, some of the convenience outlets in the guest rooms were so old and worn that plugs would not stay inserted. Our floor lamp plug hung out of the outlet just enough so the blades were exposed. This is a sure fire hazard if a piece of paper or clothing were tofall across the two blades. Then of course, no one would think to evacuate because of the numerous false alarms due to steam. Then I question why a family-friendly resort would have a vendor's kiosk at the entrance to the main dining room that prominently displays and sells smoking paraphernalia? "

"My family and I had the opportunity to stay at Sunset Beach Resort Spa and Waterpark and admittedly we were not sure what to expect as this was our first time staying at the property and had read various reviews which seem mixed. Nevertheless, upon arriving at the resort, we were quite surprised and pleased with the resort, amenities, food, and sheer beauty of landscape.The beach was beautiful, peaceful and relaxing and surrounded by the rolling hills and mountains, there are an abundance of pools for adults and children however, I do think the resort should do a better job of keeping them clean especially the restroom located near the Grill. The rooms were descent, clean, and met your daily needs (if you're looking for a 5 star luxury room then you'll be disappointed) and the oceanfront views are great. The food is good and the resort offers a variety to choose from however, by the 5th day you become bored with the selection. The staff could brush up more on their customer service skills as they were not the friendliest. My biggest complaint is the amount of time it took to check-in. We called several days before and indicated that we would arrive early (12pm) in hopes of being able to do a early check-in. We arrived at the resort at around 12pm and literally had to wait about 5 hours before we were checked-in. The lines were insane and the staff moved as slow as turtles and were not as attentive as I would have preferred in checking-in/taking care of guest.
Overall, we had a wonderful time, met some great people, made tons of happy memories, and will certainly return."

"This is an older 3 star resort, however, our room was very clean and comfortable.It had everything we needed. Everyone was very friendly, from check-in, to check-out and everyone in between. We never had an issue with rude employees or anyone on the property asking for a tip! In fact they helped us with a taxi and told us to bargain, and how much we should pay (and it worked). It is a family friendly resort, so expect lots of kids! I was surprised by how tidy everything was, not a bug in sight! Nice beach chairs and plenty of them! The food was good and a fairly good variety. They had fresh papaya, mango and pineapple at breakfast that was awesome and the Jerk chicken I could eat all day every day. The entertainment was good and the daily snorkeling trips at the beach (included) were a big hit. We went on two excursions, one was a 2 1/2 hour drive YS falls and Black River, was really fantastic but a long way off! We had our own driver so that was nice, but it was a long day! The other was the White Witch Zip line. I cannot say enough about this one. We had so much fun! The guys that work there were fantastic! There was a little 6 year old and they took such good care of her, everyone should do this! You do not need any special skills,they will help you and make you laugh, it was worth every penny!"

"not perfect, but Beach Resort is great place for family. We do think they should spend some money on upkeep of the facility (exterior, rooms, pools), bu overall well worth the trip. Staff were great, FOOD was disappointing. Not that it wasn't good, it's just when i am in Italy I have Italian food, same for any other country. When in JAM I want JAMAICAN FOOD! or at least have an area in the Dining Facility that is strictly JAM FOOD . If you are expecting a 5 star resort don't stay here. If you want a relaxing family friendly vacation with plenty of activities for the kids and you, then this is a great place. We will be going back!"

"We just returned from a week at the Sunset Beach Resort. We had a great time. All of the staff was great. Anytime we needed anything the staff was very helpful. The room was very clean. There was always food and drinks available. The resturants were very good. The buffet was good, it was buffet food, but there was always something you could find that was good. The mangos were the best ever. If you are expecting a 5 star resort don't stay here. If you want a relaxing family friendly vacation with plenty of activities for the kids and you, then this is a great place. Ziplinning was amazing so was YS falls. I would definately go back!"

Let me keep this short & sweet..... NO WORRIES MON.... If you ever get the chance to go, Stay at Sunset Beach, you will not regret it. Visit Tara at the spa for a wonderful massage. I would start at Dove Cove & swim w/ the dolphins or Dunn Falls if your up for a little hike though the most wondrous water falls I've ever had the privilege of seeing. Or just go zip lining through the jungles of Jamaica mon....
If your into ghost hunting, I totally recommend Rose Hall on a Friday night tour at 6.pm . Thier staff must have a smile painted on thier faces, which in turn makes you put one on yours... Great Place! You will Love It."

"My husband and I have traveled quite a few times to Jamaica however, this was our first trip with out children. After reading the reviews on Sunset Beach Resort, we figured this was a safe bet for our family trip - WE WERE SO WRONG! The food was extremely poor quality and the rooms were even worse. I would compare the rooms to a poorly kept Super 8 motel in the states - bare minimum, unkept and extremely old. The same for the rest of the resort...bare minimum ammenities, unclean and outdated. The pictures on this site must have been taken years ago! Everyone we talked to while we were there thought the same thing. In addition, the staff was EXTREMELY rude and acted as though we were putting them out to ask for anything. You stood in a line for EVERYTHING...from checking in (took over an hour and even then our room wasn't ready for 3 more hours...that's after a full two days of travel) to food service to drink service to towel service. In addition, the staff had their hands-out the whole time pressuring for tips. This is an all-inclusive and after being to others, I was absolutely shocked to feel like we have to walk around with money or not be served (or be cursed at...YES, that happened twice). Moreover, we booked two excursions with their staff and found out that other hotels were charged less for the same excursions. One excursion, we booked and were charged TWICE once we got there (three hours later on a bus). Absolute worse trip EVER...if you're looking at Sunset as an option, please find someone that has been recently and talk to them...I wish I would have as it would have saved us a lot of money and heartbreak."

"My stay there was pleasant i had a room near the tropical garden wich was very pleasant, stafff was friendly but i felt like they were slaves a bit. I snorkeled, ate and drank all day and flirted with men so i really did have a pleasant time, there entertainment could have been a bit better, compared to some other resorts there show was very boring. I would stay at this resort again, it had a free shuttle bus into the city nightly to take us to clubs so that was a perk. The Italian restarunt was delciious however i was upset there was no lobster, crab or shrimp at ALLL..."

"I decided to take my 5 yr old and 14yr old on a 4 day 3 nt vacation...to this hotel because it seemed 'kid friendly'.... Boy was I WRONG!... Where do I begin???... Check in took over an hour...and it wasn't even crowded!...after a long flight we where exhausted ...my 5 yr old was growing very impatient. Finally we got our keys to room 101b...the room had a funny smell...similar to urine..the patio door did not secure..I tried to give my 5 yr old a bath only to find there were NO wash cloths in the room....it took over an hr and a 1/2 to get them...so I had to wash my son up with a hand towel!...the food was horrible in the buffet.and they have stray cats wandering around the dining area..begging for food!!!!( and they wouldn't move..even if you tried to sho them away)...my 5 yr old only ate french fries the entire stay.....my daughter n I did enjoy the specialty restaurants...the pools were nice...my 5 yr old liked the kids kamp...even though only 2 out of 4 video games worked, thank god my 14 yr old meet a friend, or else she would have been bored nout of her mind. The teen center consist of 2 pool tables n a lounge chair! I wish I would have stayed at the holiday inn like I did last year...the food was much better...hotel was clean...staff was nice...I regret staying at the sunset beach!"

"We were there from May 14 to 21. We were celebrating our 38 yr wedding anniversary.First time to Jamaica. We were not real impressed with this resort. The grounds were not kept up. Lots of trash on the beach. There was good snorkling off the beach. Large rocks made a great home for the reef.Beach nothing to rave about.Our room was okay. Walls are thin. Next door there were women that liked to stay up until all hours of the night having a good time.Even ear plugs could not drowned out their noise.Staff NOT very friendly. The bars needed more bartenders. Very busy so it would take a long time to get your drink.Alcohol drinks very watered down. I drank 4 gin and tonics in 1 hour and did not get a buzz. We drank all day long and never got buzzed. One good thing about that is there were not alot of drunk people.Food in the buffet was okay.The beach grill did not have alot to choose from but the jerk chicken was great. We have been to Cancun many times. Compared to Cancun this was a dud. Would go back to Jamaica but stay someplace else."

"WE were very disappointed with this resort. The ocean was a hugh disappointment! It was rocky and so much seaweed to contend with. The fascility really needed major up-dating! I asked for a blanket for my son and it was full of holes.The rooms were dirty and very run down. The complex needs to be painted and up-dated. The lazy river for the kids was the only thing going for this hotel. Never once did we see a pirate at the water park as shown on the video. We had to wait until 10:00 to enter the pools. My husband got food poisioning from a burger and was violently sick. We couldn't believe that you could only eat once at each of the 'speciality restaurants' with a reservation 2 days prior. This resort was 'highly misrepresented'!!! I just read a review posted from New York on May 9th and they discribed the hotel to a 'T'! We were so stressed out with the much needed vacation and are really leary when looking to book the next one!!! : ("

"When we first arrived we had to stand in line for like an hour to check in. Our room was nice but not the room I requested. The view was amazing that's that's pretty much it in the amazing department. Had to call for towels daily they took all the old towels out and never put fresh ones back. The entertainment was horriable. The food was horriable as well. The jerk chicken was gone every time I went to get some. If you were not waiting in line to recieve it by 12:15 it was out even though the sign said they served it between 12-4 pm. We used are credit card for an excursion and came home and are card information was stolen and used to buy something in apple itunes for 106 dollars. Every staff member wanted you to tip them for any and everything you ask them a question and they want a tip. I felt the staff looked at us as an atm machine."

"I just returned from a 5 night stay in Montego Bay, Jamaica and I have to say, with regret, that the stay was very disappointing. Yes, the beaches are quite beautiful, but thats about the only thing the place has going for it. The resort is very run down. Faded paint, stains on the walls, chipped plaster. Our room was quite dirty, there was dust in the corners of our room, all the lampshades were dented and askew, there were ants everywhere in the bathroom and a MOUSE even ran across the floor of our room on our last night. The staff was rude, to put it nicely. They seemed angry at the fact that they had to serve us or anyone at the resort. It was a hassle and a long wait to get service on any level, whether it be from the bar, from one of the a la carte restaurants, or even from the towel stand. The staff was full of resentment and they did not try to hide it in any way shape or form. This added an extremely unnecessary level of stress to our vacation and by the last day, we gave up on trying to coax a smile out of the staff members and kept our distance. Nearly every staff member we encountered seemed to hate their job and was irritable. This is not what one would expect from any resort and certainly cast a dark cloud over our entire stay. Foodwise, there were a few Jamaican inspired dishes served at the Banana Walk buffet that were delicious, most notable, the Jamaican curry chicken and the Jamaican curry mutton. Besides that, the food was extremely institutionalized. There was rarely anything fresh and most vegetables very apparently came straight out of a can. Between mealtimes, there were no snacks available. We went to dinner at the Silk Road a la carte restaurant and I can honestly say that it was the worst meal I have ever had. Everything was terrible, from the service, to the ambiance, to the food. The food tasted like it had been purchased frozen from Costco and heated in a microwave. We ended up going to the buffet afterwards to eat. We had reservations to go to Pimiento, the Caribbean style restaurant at the resort, but we encountered such blatant rudeness by the hostess (who suspected our reservation voucher and would not seat us until she slowly and painstakingly checked with the front desk and cross referenced her reservation list just to find that yes, we had a reservation) that we decided to just forget it and go back to Banana Walk. Also, if you do decide to proceed with booking a trip here, beware of Spa personnel coming around and rousing you from a poolside or beachside nap trying to goad you into purchasing a spa treatment. The entertainment options were few and far between. There was a bonfire our first night that was fun but besides that, there wasn't anything to do past 9pm. The waterpark is a fantastic resource for children though! Before 9pm there were sad attempts at entertainment hosted by staff that clearly did not want to be there and did not make the options inviting or lively. We paid extra to go on a shopping excursion and were sorrily disappointed when we found out, while on the excursion, that it solely consisted of going from tourist shop to tourist shop. Each shop selling the same mass produced, cheap wares. At one point, our guide left us on the 'hip strip' (an obvious product of tourist dollars) to go run some errands of his own after all of us on the tour bus asked him not to leave us there with so much time to spare. Now, I understand that competition when it comes to tourist shopping is fierce, but that does NOT excuse the attitudes, sneers and rude things that shop owners would say if you decided to not enter their particular shop. I couldn't wait for the 3 hour trip to be over. Instead of advertising the 'shopping excursion' as a trip to visit 'authentic' Jamaican shops, they should just say that it is a trip to shop for cheap, mass produced wares at a multitude of shops that all seem to sell the same thing, cheap shot glasses, Bob Marley memorabilia, and a dime a dozen t-shirts. Luckily, we were able to purchase some Blue Mountain Coffee that seemed decent to bring home as gifts for our family. All in all, I would NEVER recommend this resort to anyone, whether they have a family or not. Unfortunately, the natural beauty of the island simply does not make up for the poor attitude of the resort staff, terrible food, and overall disappointment that one will undoubtably experience on a trip here in Montego Bay."

"This place is great if u have kids..if u want to go and lie down on the beach and relax not going to happen if u have kids running around screaming....the beach chairs r old and have to be replaced...u have to have water shoes to go in the ocean there r many sharp rock and sea grass and sea urgents..there is a semi nude and nude beach...one is not comfortable to sit topless cause there r men that like to come in and stare and there is too much shade...the only area that is good enough to swim is in the 'au natural' beach...but there is a very rude man watching over the 2 beaches who just sits in the back and does nothing....there r no clocks in the room so u have no idea what time it is...the food is not the best and they do not replace many if they finish up and is boring too...the Italian restaurant that u have to make a reservation for was good but u have to order everything on the menu if u want to be satisfied. The chinese restaurant was a joke the food was spicy and my friend who likes spicy thought it was too spicy...we were looking forward to the Jamaican night and were disappointed in terms of the food...the food was the same every day but the grill was good...the pictures r deceiving cause the place looks a lot older then it really is, there r no doors on the closet which is odd...but there is a safe and u have to ask and request a lock and a key for it...there r no mini fridges in the room but there is no room for it...the bathroom is okay but the tub gets slippery cause there is no mat..u have to call and ask for towels....everything is on Jamaican time so be prepared to wait and have patient especially when leaving and trying to catch a flight back home...15 minute drive was more like 30 to 45 minutes with a slow driver.."

"gave us the wrong hotel room realize that we didn't have the correct room,call back an lady stated at the desk that we ask for an upgrade. that wasn't an upgrade. I'm a 52 yr old lady and that was a great deal of walking from the back of the hotel to the front. I had to paid extra for the hotel room. also my brother arrived at 11:30 he didn't get his room until 5pm that day.I'm not asking for anything but didn't like the person at the front desk who issue our key's to our room, lie on my niece and me. also my brother was standing right there when she gave us our key's;he stated we came after him an got our hotel room before he did.we made reservation with the travel agencies an our hotel rooms suppose to be together an they weren't. an also notice the staff is talking to the young ladies late at night and I feel that's not a good thing especially when your passing by an they making fun of you."

"We had a wonderful time at the resort even though we missed our connecting plane to Montego Bay so we missed one day. We missing one night was more airline and gating delays. However we made use of the rest of days when we got there the next day. The staffs were courteous, friendly and polite. We did the Black River, YS Falls and Appleton Estate Rum Tour in rural area of St Elizabeth parish. The drive had great scenery and the food at YS Fall was really really good. The Appleton Estate Run Tour was excellent, educational and plenty of samples. The Hip Strip was pretty cool. Overall we had a great time."

"The first room we were givin was not modern, we seen some rooms with flat screen tv and much nicer. We moved to the towers and our room was better. The people there were nice for most part. We bought phone card, a must. We got the week unlimited on wifi and that was a must , $30.00 for week. Things could be updateded and the food also.You need to make reservation for 3 dinner places 2 days in advance? You get there and you dont know that. The taxis to go to town was expensive and people selling were pushy , price thins out befor you buy, next store could be lots less or lots more. We got a bottle of rum for 40 and 2 stores down they where 15, Lots of street people pushy, not good for kids in town."

"This was my husband and my third trip to Jamaica and the first for our two sons. We intentionally chose this place for the waterpark, because our sons loved the photos of the waterpark. Our check-in time was 3:00pm, but we arrived at the resort a little after 11:00am. We were given our bracelets for dining, our towel cards, and advised where we could change into swim clothes. I thought with was a nice touch, since we had 4 hours to kill before we were allowed into our rooms. We stayed in tower A in a newly renovated room. We were on the 5th floor and had an amazing view of the Caribbean. The rooms was sufficient, had a nice flat screen tv, and was reasonsably clean. We did have an issue with ants in the bathroom, but it didn't have too much effect on our trip. Beds were comfortable. Rooms were cleaned by noon each day. We did only get two bath towels for four guests each day, but after requesting more, the housekeeper left four for us. Food at the buffet was mediocre at best, even for an all-inclusive resort. We always stay at All-inclusive resorts, and I can compare it to two othres in Jamaica. The selection was essentially the same each day for each of the three meals. Lines could get long if you wait until the later hours for breakfast or dinner. Lunch lines at the grill were long, too. Our picky eaters never had an issue finding something to eat, mainly eating the same thing each day at each meal. Alcoholic beverages were strong and delicious. Bartenders were very attentive and friendly. Waterpark was enjoyed by children, but could definitely use some updating. Rust was on the bottom of the pools. Water temps were very comfortable. Beach was beautiful, but not nearly enough sand or chairs at the beach or pools. Most days, we had to put our towels on the sand or on the ground next to the pools. What few beach and pool chairs they do have should be replaced. They were very worn out! We ended up paying way more for this hotel than it was worth, only because we waited until the last minute to book, and the resort was sold out for the week. If you can book early, this hotel can be very inexpensive. Overall, I would only recommend this resort if you are travelling with a family with children. I would not recommend for couples or single adults."

"At best this hotel is a 2 star. We were very disappointed with the condition of the hotel, the food quality, and many of the staff that we dealt with. The buffet had the same food selection EVERYDAY! Two out of the three restaurants also served the same buffet food - just on fancy plates. The only food that was good was at the Italian restaurant. The rooms need to be renovated in a big way as does the rest of the hotel. The maid service was far from good and we often had to go looking for towels as they would only leave two sets in the room for four people. I am not sure that they ever changed the sheets during or 10 night stay. As far as the beach goes, bring water shoes. It is full of rocks and is far from a nice sandy beach. There is one spot right before the clothing optional area that has some nice sand but you had to be up at 6:00 in the morning to even get a spot there as everyone else in the resort catches on to the spot. The beach chairs ALL need to be thrown out and replaced. They are all broken and many have one position to them - laying flat. The staff there is far from friendly. We did met a few great people that worked there but they are honestly few and far between. If you tip good, services is great - if you do not - the services is terrible. The 'leave your wallet at home' part that they advertise if far from the truth! We would not stay at this resort again and did bring it to the attention of the managers there. We meet a ton of great people from around the world there and THAT is what made our trip amazing - not the resort or staff. This hotel is an excursion sight for the cruise ships as well so it gets packed around the pools and beach."

"Second time there not very nice air in room was not working had to keep shutting it off toilet was coming off the wall we let them know they fixed the toilet that made the room stink after second call the air was not fixed when we left.The cleaning staff was nice but you were hard to find a nice server or bartender. Saw a cockroach the last nite of our stay also had alot of noise in our room we were in the family area which was not right it was just me and my husband! Im not a hard person to please. They just need to improve on just about everthing especially the food!! Alot of money for the stay, when you are not happy!!"

"This a beautiful resort as it is on a peninsula and has views of the mountains, ocean and Montego Bay. The staff in the buffet restaurant and the other three restaurants was excellent, especially in the Italian restaurant. The people really try to please (except for one girl in guest services). They really want people to come back. The only really negative is that they really need to replace the chaise lounges along the beach and the pool. THEY ARE DEFINITELY WORN OUT AND A LOT ARE BROKEN. This is important because there are a lot of guests and without enough decent chairs you cannot enjoy the pool and the beach-also need to have more areas with shade."

"Overall, we had a great time when we finally arrived (tropical storm Isaac got our flight in cancelled). The accommodations were nice, we had two adjoining rooms for our family plus a rollaway bed brought in. Staff were friendly to us. Food had enough variety to keep even the finickiest eater happy and those with more selective taste happy too. Very family friendly environment, my 9 year old thought he was in heaven; my two 19 year old girls plan to come back again for spring break! Enough things to keep us busy there. Entertainment was a little lame, I would've liked to see more cultural stuff. The water park could use a new coat of paint, but still enjoyable. For the price we paid, we are not at all complaining. Did well."

"We were in the east wing and the rooms were clean but old and very basic. We didn't have a working phone, no tv remote and no clock. The paint was chipped in the bath tub and the dryer didn't work. However, the room was clean and the beds weren't horrible. The customer service staff were AMAZING but the bartenders and waiters sometimes showed their disdain for certain customers. Some of them were great. The on site doctor is ridiculously expensive - go to the clinic down the street! The food was very basic buffet stuff but the Italian restaurant was good. The entertainment is old school talent show stuff - I would pay the extra money to stay in a nicer place. This felt like the trailer trash version of a 'resort' to me."

"It took 1.30 hours to check in and rooms were not ready until after 4pm. Lobby and main restaurant needs some fans or ac, very hot!!! During meal times, main courses ran out on average 30 minutes after opening of the restaurant and no replacement the last hour of restaurant hours. Entertainment too late for kids and not very good."

"I absolutely loved the resort. The best part of my stay was the snorkeling. Seeing the Carribean for the first time was a breath taking experience. Also, being my first time out of the country, it was even better when I was able to enjoy the all-inclusive benefits. The food was great and the resort could accomodate young, old, and everything in between. Besides the beautiful resort and its' perks, I would recommend future visitors to consider the many Jamaican tours."

"group of family and friends stayed here for a wedding. the hotel shows a lot of age. Scenery around the resort is beautiful in spite of the hotel. The food was bad with the exception of breakfast omelets. The a-la-carte restaurants are half empty - yet you can't get reservations.The elevators broke down multiple times a day. Everything is a problem here from waiting hours afer checkin for your room to being hassled about beach towels - thankfully the alcoholic drinks and bartenders were good. The beach where we held the wedding was lovely and the minister was great. We had fun because of the group of people we were with. If we had been there by ourselves, we would have cancelled and gone home. I would never go back."

"Sunset Beach Resort is an average place to stay in Jamaica. I've been to Sandals & Beaches which cost more but were definitely nicer places.
If you're on a budget and worried about costs Sunset Beach is a logical choice. It's not bad but understand that everything is done on the cheap. If you have the money go somewhere with a good reputation. If not, Sunset Beach will suffice but don't expect greatness.
Drinks aren't made with fresh fruit. I asked for a banana daiquiri and was told they didn't have any banana's or any fresh fruit to make drinks. They used a pina colada and strawberry frozen pre made mix which is totally unacceptable. The bar staff was rude and poor. The pool bar closed at 6:00p...really!!!
Entertainment was absolutely terrible.
The main buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner was ok. Something for everybody. The only problem I really had regarding food was that the snack bar had really bad burgers, jerk chicken (ok), grilled cheese and the worst nachos ever. Had to wait in a line to order food from there. It took forever.
Also, guest are only allowed to use the specialty restaurants 3 times which was never mentioned anywhere before our trip. Italian was fair, Carribean was good and Asian was solid.
The beach was ok....a little rocky.
Rooms were fair at best...don't look at the pictures they lie.
Overall, I would rate this hotel a 5 out of 10. I wouldn't say don't go there but wouldn't recommend it either.

"My two girls - 19 and 20 returned to Montego Bay with me 5/18 to 5/23. The two of them being half jamaican, made a real connection this time. (They were there when they were about 6 and 8).
We were so excited to be there. The property is immense and has had several renovations, including the casino and the main stage. Entertainment never ceased - we couldn't even fit everything in! We felt well taken care of by the warmth and hospitality of the staff.
Thank you Sunset for making us feel loved! We will be back!!! "

"The staff was very friendly and efficient. Would like a clock in room and the trip to the airport was way to early. 7 am for a 10:15 flight. We arrived at 7:10 and thru security and customs by 7:30. Think that could be adjusted. Would like to have towels available by the pool after 3. Every time we went to get one they were out. Overall great."

"It was very relaxing. We we arrived, hotel didn't have any safe deposit box keys. The food was good, their wasn't much to choose from. Their was no beach service. Too many people staying at the hotel was heavy smokers, and I didn't see not one ash tray. Their was cigarettes all over the place, like on the grounds, on the beach and in the landscape. Over all it was worth the money that we spent. Also their wasn't any clocks in the hotel room. Since we wanted a relaxed vacation, we didn't bring our cell phones, so we never knew the time, therefore we missed our bus back to the airport by about 8 minutes."

"I felt that my stay at the resort was almost too good to be true! My stay at the Sunset Beach Resort Spa and Water-park included 5 days and 4 nights. Coming from Orlando, I've seen a lot of parks, restaurants and entertainment, so I feel I can make informed statements here. The entertainers always included the audience involvement and was top notch! There was always some type of activity happening throughout the day. The food, which included Italian, Chinese and Jamaican was very tasty. Although reservations were required for those restaurants, I was on the all inclusive stay so I did not have to pay for the reservations. If those restaurants did not excite you, there was the buffet style area that served breakfast, lunch and dinner as well. Although the food was served buffet style, it was very good. If you missed the allotted times for the food, there was a grill that was open during the off times. The staff were very friendly and willing to assist with any questions. The resort was very clean as well. I witnessed the cleaning staff throughly cleaning throughout my stay. I made sure that I expressed my appreciation to them for the hard and thorough work they did. If you wanted to go into town, the resort provided free transportation to and from town. I am definitely coming back to the place!!!"

The new Sunsetters Program afforded the girlz & I the opportunity to spend the day in Ochos Rios @ The Sunset Jamaica Grand, immediately I knew I made the right choice in the Sunset Bch Spa. The staff is overly accomodating, food was excellent; with the exception of the Jamaican themed restaurant, Ms. Waters, Hospitality Mgr is a gem and my masseuse Phillip, made me want to break the law and bring him home in my luggage. Looking forward to returning for the Christmas holiday."

"I booked my trip to Sunset Beach Resort 3 weeks prior to my departure. It was my first time to Jamaica and I can't wait to return. The resort itself was okay, but the people I meet while I was there was the best part of the trip. The resort was not crowded or full of kids, which was nice. This is partly due to it not being the busy season. The staff was nice, but could work on being a little more friendly. The room itself was okay, but could be updated and feel cleaner. My one recommendation for the resort would to be remodel the rooms to feel more up to date and clean."

"This year will be my 6th trip to Sunset Beach Resort/Spa. For my 50th b-day, I celebrated at Sunset Beach in 2006. I had so much fun, I keep coming back and they spoiled me with their outstanding service with a smile. Now, I'm hooked! The staff is always professional, helpful and always making sure that guest are No.1! I am spoiled now and I look frwd to seeing all my friends when I return. Food is great and, Clinton the 'Omelet Chef' is absolutely the BEST! He prepares awesome omelets and tops it off with a handsome smile! I have been to other parishes and resorts, but none can come close to the outstanding/wonderful staff at Sunset Beach! This resort is heaven on it's on private peninsula!
