"First, the good points. This is a lovely old hotel in the English empire island style. Rooms on the beach and villas with lots of foliage around. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are island motif - bright and airy. The food we had - we were only there overnight - was excellent.

My critique is meant to be constructive. The room we booked was supposed to be ocean front and it was, though the view was blocked by a lot of foliage ( still, it was lovely). It had no TV. We are not TV watchers but since communication is still an issue in Jamaica, we would have liked to have watched the news.
The bath had been updated but there was nothing in the small refrigerator to drink and we did not get into our room until 4 p.m so this was an issue. They did give us a bottle of rum!

The beach is relatively small and there was a beautiful infinity pool which seemed to used mainly by families with small children - the quiet space for we older people was off to the far left of the beach with a few chairs on the beach.

The villas had their own pool so I am assuming that was where the older people stayed.

I really liked the ambience but we found the prices relatively high for the quality of the room. All said, we spent one night from 4 P.M. to 12 P.M. the next day and had dinner, drinks and breakfast and it was close to 1000 dollars all said and done. Taxes and other fees added a significant amount to the cost of the the room . And not having a TV or coffee maker( we had one that did not work) or other amenities like bottled water and some other drinks was not really acceptable.

"I arrived unexpectedly early, and assumed the hotel would be unable and even unwilling to accommodate me. I was wrong, very wrong. The front desk was proactive, I did not have to ask if a room could be made ready for me early. They did it automatically, asked me to have a seat, and a drink, and relax. My husband attempted to take our bag from our transport. He was instantly stopped and told, 'You are on vacation now. I will take that'. From that instant we were sold - and this was all in the first three minutes of arrival. The staff is very well trained, the food excellent, the grounds immaculate. Everyone bent over backwards to take good care of us. At the hotel they take sharing their slice of paradise seriously; and I have no doubt my family will become part of their family. Instant love."
