"Visited Ochos rios for the very first time, the resort wasn't anything like the pictures seen online. The hotel Description is deceptive, I purchased junior suite oceanfront room. The view from balcony was wonderful as long as you stood up. Sitting down in the chairs u couldn't see anything from the small wall that blocked the oceanfront view. I was suppose to have a jacuzzi tub, the tub was extremely small and the jets didn't work. I reported the problems to hotel staff, mainteance didnt come for 2 days and they still didnt fix any of problems. Also the room didn't have hot water, the ceiling fan didn't work, neither did the air conditioning. You also have to purchase a key to the in room safe, which they didn't even have enough to purchase during my stay. They had several resturants to visit but the variety to choose from was horrible. We also booked hotel transportation along with package and the day we were suppose to leave no one showed up "

"Trip was a week ago - would not go back. Food was 'ok' Staff was NOT friendly - or HELPFUL. Smoke alarm went off all night long one evening. Bars smelled like the rails hadn't been cleaned in a while. Beds were gross - took off the spreads - they were nasty. One key didn't work in the door - balcony door did not close on our first night - had to sleep with it open. We reported it - they eventually fixed the balcony door - key never did get addressed. 5 hours after arrival before we got a room - facing what they call a garden - not really sure where that definition comes from - but whatever."

"What a fantastic vacation!! The hotel was beautiful, the food was fantastic, the beach was great (never a problem finding a chair), the entertainment was incredible!! The room was nice with a good view, but it wasn't anything extraordinary (we paid the extra $ for ocean view with no regrets). Every inch of this place was very clean, and I really appreciated the clean public restrooms. The staff was friendly and helpful. I wouldn't bother with paying for a deluxe suite as it was on a totally separate wing. I'm sure the room itself was probably nicer, and the pool area was quieter, but to me the best place to be was on the regular side of the hotel. Be prepared to walk quite a distance depending on where your room is. Ours was on the 4th floor and over the St. Anne's restaurant. we were centrally located and were very close to everything. There were a few ants in the room, but nothing to get concerned over. I also liked that we were onloy a ten minute drive to town and tourist attractions. When booking your trips, go through your tour provider. Cheaper options are available, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for! I would recommend this hotel to anyone!!"

"Fantastic resort, fantastic sandy beach and blue ocean you may not find nicer anywhere. Very comfortable room, bath fans did not work, good food everywhere, did not eat in all the restaurants , all booked up, need to book as soon as you get there. Great pools and gardens. If you go on excursions, research them well, keep an eye on the natives, some are restless, best to travel in groups . Friendly staff, ave. entertainment. We would go again, enjoy !

"We stayed for five days - the location was ideal for us as we wanted a place where we weren't stuck at the hotel the whole time. Their food was pretty decent, beach beautiful, and staff nice. The hotel was fair - nothing over the top - but in comparison to other hotels, I heard this was one of the nicer ones. My only complaint was that everything but the room was outdoor basically, which should be a good thing, except everyone was smoking cigarettes in the halls and everywhere else you went. Also, they're a little cheap on stuff, like you only get to switch out your beach towels once a day and replenishing water bottles in the fridge every 2 days.. not so 'all inclusive' but still it was a nice relaxing trip and great people."

"I travelled on Jan 27th- Feb 3 with 5 friends between the ages of 28-32. From my personal experience, our room was always cleaned, there were no bug in the room. We got fresh towels daily. You can get extra water from front desk - no big deal.
The food at the resort was fantastic, I loved the jerk chicken, I ate it daily for lunch. There was lots of a la carte restaurants, the Japanese was really good. The main buffet had a variety of different meals - all delicious.
There are two pools at this resort, a main pool and a quiet pool. We hung out at the main pool as there was lots of action. The resort sits right on the beach, and the beach is beautiful. White sands, clear water, lots of loungers and shady areas, and a beach bar for your drink refills.
I would return to Jamaica and try a different Riu resort - just to see different parts of the island! Amazing experience overall"

"We stayed at the Riu from Jan. 3-Jan. 8 to celebrate our 5th Anniversary. We were very impressed with the resort. WONDEFUL entertainment crew, as well as the rest of the staff. Beautiful pools and beachfront. Good food with plenty of options for dining. Clean rooms and loooved the taps in the room! Only complaint was that our bed was extremely hard and they pushed two singles together. They wouldn't let us change rooms, but did have housekeeping makeshift a pallet on under our sheets after the first night and we both slept much better after that. Would def come back again."

"My wife and I have been married for 24 wonderful years and finally had the opportunity to visit a Carribean destination (for my niece's wedding). We stayed at the Ocho Rios RIU for 6 days. In a word.....it was'awesome'. We were treated like royalty by every single employee at the hotel (from the manager to the nice young man sweeping up after the beach party). The hotel was clean, the room was great and the food amazing (huge variety of fresh dishes in the buffet restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner). We had the opportunity to attend most of the restaurants (both buffet style and 'a la carte' restaurants) and found the service and staff extremely accommodating. The nightly shows were fun, however, the only down side is the wine (both red and white) which is not drinkable by anyone who appreciates a good wine. My wife was disappointed with that one minor detail (however, there was plenty of other choices to drink).
Overall, it was an excellent first 'resort' vacation and we will be hard-pressed to find anything that can compare in the future......we will be back for sure!"

"I went with three friends to this resort for my birthday and stayed Oct. 12-19th. The resort is in a beautiful location to say the least. The staff were polite and helpful. The best meal to eat at the resort is breakfast because it is a great buffett and lunch should be eaten from the Jerk Chicken hut which opens daily on the beach and is included. The restaurants where you can make reservations at on site are not that impressive, but they are standard and you're not going to go hungry. There is a restaurant on the beach that is not included or associated with the RIU but they had some of the best lobster I have ever tasted and it was reasonably priced.
The resort is close to many tourist attractions. Its a ten minute ride to Dunn Falls which I recommend and you can walk to Dolphin Cove from there if you really want to save pennies and enjoy both attractions in one day. By far I enjoyed the horseback riding the most which includes an ocean swim with your horse and is AMAZING!
There were nightly shows at the resort, which were for all audiences. The staff works really hard to put on a good show and it shows. I can not say enough good things about this resort and the staff. I left feeling like I had gotten what I paid for and more than I expected.
I will say my one complaint is that I saw atleast 4 bugs in my room, but my friends who were higher than the second floor had none. It is an open air type resort so I can forgive them for those sitings.
Overall I am happy I picked this resort and I will definately return."

"A note was made on my booking about my disability. (I have problem with my knee and have problems walking distances).
No notice was taken of this and we were placed at the far end of the hotel complex on the 4 fourth floor with a long walk to the main facilities. It was even worse when it rained and we had to walk two blocks around the hotel in order to get to the main building as there were no other options apart from getting wet!"

"My friend and I stayed at the Riu Ocho Rios from Oct. 2nd - Oct. 6th. First the bad: the beds are hard as rocks, there were ants in our bathroom the first night, but I think I killed them all and we only saw one or two the rest of the trip, the resort is painted purple.... looking at the pictures online now, I can see that... I just didnt notice at first and it does make it look a bit cheap, the food is edible but nothing amazing - typical all inclusive food. Now the good: the staff was amazing. They are so friendly and really go out of their way to make sure you have a good time, besides the ants, the rooms were clean and nice (we had an amazing view), the pool and beach are clean and GORGEOUS, the drinks are good (not watered down like at other all inclusives Ive been to), the grounds are very well kept - beautiful landscaping. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would go back here again. Sidenote: if you come to Ocho Rios, you must hike up Dunns Falls...absolutely stunning!"

"The RIU Resort located in Ocho Rios is beautiful, the shows, events and planned activities were phenomenal. The rooms were clean and spacious with large beds inside and the rooms were nicely decorated. However, there were tiny black ants and small roaches inside our room. The cleaning crew could do a better job removing used towels from the room when the clean daily and they need to supply the bathroom with extra towels daily for guest.
The resort staff lost my luggage, they delivered my luggage to the wrong room and they left two suitcases unsecured in the hallway outside of my room because no one was in my room to receive the luggage. The front desk staff were very rude and unfriendly. The staff in the dining rooms were very kind and attentive although
the food at RIU was somewhat disappointing. Breakfast was my favorite meal of the day. The food taste more like cruise line or cafeteria food. I was expecting to taste authentic Jamaican food but again I was disappointed. Each restaurant provided a large variety of food choices daily, and the resort has several bars, restaurants, pools and a gym. I especially enjoyed the Michael Jackson Show, it was fabulous!!!"

"I have stayed here for the last 3 years with NO problem.. but This year was the worst experience I have ever experienced!!! After the beach party my family and I went to get some snacks, it was around 11pm..(My family consist of my husband and two minors).. as I was standing in line I had an incident with an intoxicated guest. I went to the front desk to report the incident and no one was able to help me because the managers were 'off duty'..went to bed got up early the next morning to report the incident at 7;30am..the unhelpful young lady at the front desk said managers don't get in until 8, so have a seat and wait..I waited in the lobby..returned at 8:10..she said the manager said wait 15 more minutes, So I headed to have breakfast and returned. Finally got to st down and speak with the Hotel Assistant Manager..he advised me that managers start their shift at 7am , so he was not sure why the front desk would have told me otherwise..told him what happened the night before and that was that..since there aren't any cameras in the cafeteria..REALLY dissatisfied with the way this situation was handled..RIU should be able to protect their guest and make them feel safe BUT this was not the case!!! What a SHAME!!!"

"This was our 2nd time to Ocho Rios.
The Riu was a beautiful resort, very clean, gorgeous beaches with palm trees when you need a little shade. Our room was clean and had no problems with housekeeping or having our minibar re-stocked. Throughout the week, there were a couple bugs in the bathroom but it is a tropical location, so that's to be expected. The food in the restraunts was average however the food at the regular buffets was pretty much disgusting. I spent 2 days sick with food poisoning and after that didn't have too much appetite for what they were serving. The entertainment crew was amazing and it is definitely a very fun resort where the staff tries to interact with the guests as much as possible. Our biggest disappointment was that the 'all-inclusive' liquor was NOT top shelf. Besides the locally made rum, everything else was well quality liquor. Between the food and nasty alcohol selection, it made the value of the trip not quite worth it and not quite the vacation we were expecting."

"I stayed at this hotel in 2009, It was the BEST experience of my life. Check in was smooth and quick, no errors, the room was clean everything working and everyone was very helpful. Not to mention that, the food was absolutely great! This is why I decided to attend again recently...(8/2012) Check in took about 3 hours, and they sent us to the wrong room. When we got to the right room....the shower and TV didn't work and there was ants everywhere.
This was a horrible first day. Between the horrible check in, the lack of GOOD food for the entire trip and the wait for cabs and buses for the mini trips to mystic mountain and a horseback company. I would say this was an average trip. I was extremely disappointed in the food. it was a lot better previously... so my new feeling is NEVER STAY AT THE SAME HOTEL MORE THAN ONCE.
In the hotel's defense it was a week after there 50th anniversary of independence. Maybe the food supply was limited.
The best part of RIU ocho Rios was the ENTERTAINMENT crew. They made every night great with the pre-show, actual show, and day time games and classes."

"First I found a bug in bed and the sheets had spots on them roach were also in the room. I had problem the first night no one to take our luggage to the rooms the receptions left us there say good-bye and went away. We came there after 9 and never went to our room untill after 11 because I needed someone to take our bags.I was not going to do that I think I pay for that service guest that were there say that was there service very poor. Security service at the gate was poor not for all just the security supervisor that was on he was very rude I had to get out on him telling he can change visiting time when ever he wish because it is a Spanish hotel I hope the manager deal with this.The staff in the ST.Ann buffet were the best also the manager's everything about the hotel was excellent beautiful place but those people with those characters need to be reshuffle or RIU Hotel is going to loose a lot of customer's"

"We didn't have hot water for 3 of our 5 days. House keeping didn't bother cleaning our room on the last full day we were there. I had to wake up early to track a member of housekeeping to get clean towels and shampoo on the last day. Only one of the reservation restaurants was of the quality expected out of a reservation-only dress code restaurant. The rest of the restaurants were the standard buffet that everyone eats at for lunch. We also saw the occasionally cockroach.
The good part was the beach. It was beautiful. There is a restaurant down the beach that is worth eating at when you get bored with the resort food. They did jerk chicken on the beach every day for lunch while we were there. That was yummy!"

"We loved the resort! The resort is very nice, clean, and well maintained. There are plenty of staff and they were friendly. There are many restaurants and bars to keep everyone satisfied, and even the mini bars in the room are included in the all inclusive, and restocked regularly. The food was very good and there was a lot to choose from. The entertainment staff is very busy all day and night, and they did a fantastic job organizing activities and were fun to watch in the shows each night. The pool and beach are big, clean, and beautiful. Despite the many people at the resort, it never felt crowded and we could always find the perfect chairs to relax in either area! We had one maintenance issue in our room that was unresolved (cold showers!), and had some difficulty with calling out of the resort to the USA. Otherwise we had a fantastic vacation."

"Bumpy start. The first room we were checked into was occupied, then the second room as also occupied...... Really what are the odds!!!!
The front desk manager addressed the issue and we were put into a Junior Suite. I have to agree with other comments previously enetered. If you are going to this resort, you go all out and pay for the ocean Front, or else don't count on seeing the ocean from your room.
The food was good, the hotel made sure to have good entertainment every night. I would recommend this hotel to others, But be sure to pay for ocean FRONT if you want to have a GREAT view."

"We doubted very much before booking since we had read bad reviews. The hotel was immaculate. The food was very abundant and tasty. The staff was friendly. The entertaining was also great. The only dissapointment was the OCEANVIEW room. If you want to see the ocean, pay for the OCEANFRONT room. In the oceanview rooms you literally have to stick your head out of your balcony to maybe see a little ocean. I would definetly visit again !"

"Our vacation included my husband, our 1 1/2 year old son, adult sister, and our friends and their 2 children (1 and 2 year olds). I know . . . vacation with three toddlers?! We still had a good time. It was our first international family vacation, so we weren't too sure what to expect.
THE FACILITY
The room was pretty. We really enjoyed the decor and dark/mahogany furniture. The bed was comfortable; sheets were a little hard though. The 'not so good' report is the smell of the couch; it smelled aweful and smelled as if it has never been cleaned. We wanted to relax on it and watch TV, but had to throw towels on it first - that sucked.
The bathtub was a little off too. There was some type of plaster in the bottom of the tub that caused a little mound. Also, a few days into the trip, the plumbing acted weird; the shower temperature would oscillate from ice cold to scalding hot during showers.
Housekeeping was a little strange too. Some days our rooms wouldn't be cleaned until late in the afternoon or early evening. :(
The phone didn't work some days, which was weird. Also, we called the front desk a few times and didnt' receive immediate assistance. Completely different from the U.S.
STAFF
The front desk staff was helpful and very pleasant; not so much with the housekeeping staff. They seemed was somewhat disinterested (per note above). Perhaps they were just understaffed; it took 2-3 days for them to finally respond to my request for a crib.
FOOD
The food at St. Ann's buffet was great! Most everything was great. I loved all the fish. The Chinese restaurant (Mandalay) and the Pizza Parlor are aweful. The Japanese Cuisine restaurant was tasty as well. The Jerk Hut on the beach was great. The Plantation restaurant had great beef patties! The pool was nice. We only got into the smaller one that didn't have any organized activities since we had the kids. Great bars and drinks - even though we got virgins most of the time.
The shows we were able to attend weren't that good, however, the entertainers had great attitudes and really tried to bring a good show to the guests.
We would consider staying here again.

"My trip to Jamaica was wonderful BUT my only issues I had at the resort were 1. The king size bed felt llike we were sleeping on rocks and when asked to padded it up they gave me 1 blanket 2. the swimmimg pool closed at 6pm and it was still hot and sunny out 3. the shower stall was dark...it had no light in there so u can see the soap. Other than that, my stay was blissfully wonderfully lovely!!!!!!"

"Please Please do not read the negative reviews. We just got back from our third trip to Jamaica and second to to Riu Ocho Rios, We hoped we wouldn't be let down going back to the sane resort, but it was amazing again. Our oceanfront Jr suite, food, staff, everything. Just a few reminders to help book your trip, The Jr suite wing of the hotel is closer to the ocean and I believe has the better pool. The rooms are bigger and the whole area in that area is wonderful. Really the whole resort is amazing. The price difference between the standard room and the Jr suite in most cases is not very much.rnJust a shout out to Candice at the front desk, Kanessha pool side bringing me my drinks, Saun and many at the swim up bar. They were all amazing, not to mention they remembered us from being there in August. I enjoyed supporting the local economy by buying tshirts and jewely on the beach, but it seems as the Riu has hired some to clean up the beach. I did not see a single one selling. The only exception was the local guys on waverunners in the water, They were selling rides, so if that was the only down fall not to bad. We brought our own snorkle gear. They have it for you but you have to leave $25 deposit and only get them for a hour at a time. So if you want to snorkle first thing in the morning or through out the day. I for one didnt want to walk clear down the beach to get them. I highly rec this resort and hope to go back soon."

"My wife and I loved our honeymoon at the Riu in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. This was her first time on an all inclusive trip and she can't wait until we go again. I have been to cancun before, but jamaica just blows that vacation out of the water. The food was excellent. The service was top notch. The mattresses were as hard as 2x4's though. That was the only thing that was uncomfortable. My wife was fine though. It was the best worry free sleep she's had a in long time."

"Checking in was simple which is a plus. Loved my room it was clean and everything was in good taste however getting to the room was a workout the elevator wasn't working and it seems like it was a 15min walk from the lobby to the room. My biggest peeve was the staff members knock the door once then let themselves in which caught me and my husband by surprise. The food was not that great compare to another resort we stayed at. "We went here from june 5-11th. It was all inclusive. Even though we had paid all inclusive alot of bartenders and servers were still asking for tips. Jamaica is beautiful very tropical and blue water. We did three excursioins while there, bob marley tour to nine mile, negril sunset tour, and dunns river falls by catarman party boat. The bob marley tour was good I think it should of been cheaper due to the fact that not everything was included in that like the youtube videos show you had to buy your own 'goodies'. Althrough no matter what anyone tells you in jamacia about being the best every single person on the island has the same stuff so pls dont waste your time looking past the first person. The negril trip was beautiful but it was 90 a person for a full day and if we could take it back we def would of done half day becase the full day is so long and nothing is included you have to buy all food and drinnks and you first go to margaritiville which is in negril and its boring all it has is a trampoline in the water where all the other ones have slides and stuff. The cheapeiest thing on the menu is fries for 9.99. After being there for a few hours they take you to ricks cafe. This was beautiful but again you have to buy all your food and drinks at very expensive prices. Dont pay attention to the locals who ask you if you want them to jump off the cliffs bc once they do they will harrass you for money for doing it. You do have a chance to jump off the 38ft cliff yourself for a dollar. We left out at 720am and didnt return back until 1030pm. It was too long for us and we were starving and missed the buffet by the time we got back. The dunns river was awesome. I think it had to be the best excursion we did. All your drinks on the boat are included they dont have snacks however. They do have a girl who is your tour guide and shse dances on the boat and if you like you could as well. This was about 60 a person. Our resort was HUGE and the staff was so friendly and helpful. However we have traveled to punta cana before, and in my opionion punta cana is more beach where jamacia is more tropical. And also they are not as money hungry in punta cana as they are in jamacia. They want tips for everything in jamacia. The night before we left we ran into a situation where we were basically stranded on the resort because we had no money and no calling card left and the girl behind the desk Selena, wouldnt help us at all and we have a 3,2,1 yr old at home we needed to get back too. She wouldnt allow us to use the front desk phone to call home, because apparently they charge you 2.00 each time you use your room phone to connect your calling card(which punta cnaa never did) so by the time we left our bill was 65 after buying two calling cards. RIDICULOUS! So me and my husband didnt have the money to pay the bill and we asked if we could call home or get on the internet to ask someone if they could help us and the girl selena was very nasty and denied helping us. SO i asked for a manager the manager was not anymore helpful at all! He yelled at my husband and said if we didnt pay the 65 the flight and wouldnt be allowed to leave the island. I asked if we could make a payment arrangement for wednesday because we were departing on monday and two days later my husband would get a check they denied it and sent us back to our rooms. We tried to go back up to our rooms to try to call home one last time for help and they were so ignorant they shut our phones off so we couldnt make any calls and we went back down to the desk in tears asking for help and they refused us again saying every night before they shut the phones off. I was so paniced I suffer from anxiety and bipoloar and being stranded was not fun. Finally a extremly nice young boy who works behind the service desk found us and told us he could get fired if they seen hijm but he was going to allow us to use his phone to get on fb to send an email back home we were stuck. My aunt ended up calling in to pay the 65 but they said she had to fax her credit card front and back and fax her id front and back and she denied because of identiy theft. So we had to go on a mission and beg and plead to people on the island and finally got up enough money to pay the 65 and go home. We should of looked more into it to see that even thouggh we bought 40.00 calling card they still charge 2.00 to your room everytime u call out to connect it. BUT although we were in the wrong in that way, the management and people behind the desk were horrible and put us through a lot trying to get home. Make sure as well you have your returning flight number or it is a hassle to get your ground transportation there. I know in the dominican republic they do have vendors who bother you but once you say no that is they leave you alone and in jamacia we were hounded on the resort by all of them. HOWEVER even through our horrible experiences I would go back to jamacia i would never ever go back to the same resort but after a few years of getting over what happened to us this time and our disspointments i would probably go back to an adult only resort or we met a guy who owns a villa called east of eden and that would probably be the only place in jamacia we would ever go if we ever went back. There is about 6 resteraunts 7 bars, we did the ala cart the steak house DELICOUS we loved it. The buffet wasnt so great after the third day you get sick of the same food every single day. Your drinks you gotta ask for extra liquor in them because they really dont put a lot in them and all the sugar from the drinks will give you a headache. There most popular is beer red stripe, the island drinks are miami vise, tropical pick me up, love potion, gummy bear shots, and french kiss. They had shows every night we didnt get a chance to see the beach party which was the one we wanted the most. They had a grease night, a mix match, but we didnt watch the shows too much. I think overall they could of had more and better entertainment. However it was good for what it was. They had a disco a casino and a sports bar which has two pool tables in it. To rent the internet its 9.00 a hour. They have three shops on the resort but a little pricy if you do the negril sunset trip they have some cheap vendors on the seven mile beach. The buffet closes about 1030pm and after that you can only get food from either the sports bar which is nachos and sometimes burgers or you can go to a little resteraunt called the pizzera but the french fries and pizza were the best things in there. There pizza is kind of like our frozen pizza. It is a good place to go to get away but make sure you bring ALOT of money if you plan on going here and i wouldnt recommend any of the excursions we did except dunns river falls, and we didnt get a chance to do this but i would try out the mystic moutain. I wouldnt reccomnd the bob marley 9 mile unless you really want to see his house and all that and make sure again you bring at least 70 with you to this excursion. And negril sunset tour i would just go straight to ricks cafe i wouldnt recommend margaritvilla at all. However the two other margativalls look awesome! We werre told not to go off the resort and we realized the last day everyone was going off the resort to a club across the street :("

"Overall a good experience. Some minor maintenance issues i.e. fan and light fixtures on main floor lobby detatching from roof, some paint needed here and there. Sushi restaurant in appearance only. Food not even close to sushi.
Steakhouse pretentious in all aspects from the oversize wooden platters on the place settings to the staff's efforts to impress diners with lifting the plate covers to reveal food that should be left covered. The emphasis should be preparing the food to look appetizing and choosing decent cuts of steak that are grilled to order rather than the awful looking and tasting lump being served. Most disappointing and low point of our stay.
The best part of our experience was the staff. All were friendly, courteous and professional."

"Please Please Please dont listen to the negative reviews some customers write. I just got back from my honeymoon stay with my lovely wife May 25 to May 27 2012. Every thing was perfect. The check in went smoothly, everything we asked for we got. I want to give a big shout out to Ainsley at the front desk, you were a great help sir! n My wife and I were happy with the service, the staff, the food and the drinks especially the drinks. It was far better than we expected based on some of the reviews. We are already planning another trip in August. nThis was the most exhilerating experience i have ever had. It was relaxing and fun. "This is not a 4-star resort ! Maybe a nice 3-star. The beds are hard , they have no room service, they close the pool at 7 pm. there is no clock in the bedrooms, the rooms are very small and most of them are not ocean front as they lead you to believe. the buffets are plentyful but mostly cold food !! I was very dissapointed !! It is pretty and clean , well maintained but lacks the amenities to be a 4-star resort. There are no waiters around the pool , you have to go get your own food and drinks like you do at a 2-star resort. I have been to a lot nicer resorts for the same price or less . Look around before you book your trip !!!"

"I was looking for an all-inclusive vacation for my boyfriend and I. We are still young, not engaged, but wasn't looking for the spring break experience either. This was a nice medium of all aspects. Unfortunately it was a trip gone wrong. It rained 4 out of the 5 days we were there which is clearly beyond anyones control. However, we had a transfer to the resort set up. It was extremely unorganized and the bus left 30 minutes after we finally boarded the bus after mass confusion. The hotel itself is beautiful and the check-in was fairly painless. However, when we entered our room it was set up with two double beds awkwardly pushed together? That was a little difficult to figure out. Not to mention the beds were hard as rocks. I will say the place is spotless and all the employees/locals are honestly the nicest people. I was a hosptiality major and do appreciate great customer service. The restaurants are buffet style unless you make reservations otherwise. We went to make a reservation Wednesday and the next available was Friday at 9pm at night, so definitely try to make it right when you get there. My boyfriend ended up getting food poisioning our second to last night so we spent about 24 hours locked in the room while it was raining with the 20 or so tv channels. We booked one excursion beyond the resort and the concierge at the resort was not helpful when our transportation didn't arrive on time. Someone finally came and ended up taking us to a completely different excursion than we booked. (We ended up on a snorkeling catamaran and dunns river tour instead of ziplining and tubing.) Also, the liqor and beer are extremely watered down (as in many all-inclusives). This isn't such a bad thing as I never had to deal with a hangover the next morning, which I should have for the amount of shots, mixed drinks, and frozen concoctions I consumed. So besides the rain, food poisioning, and excursion mix up...it was a very clean, beautiful resort. The vacation turned out as somewhat of a disaster, but it's always nice to get away no matter what. I'd just be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed with the outcome of the trip. It ended with a 7am transfer back to the airport to wait around for a 12:15pm flight, a 6 hour layover in Atlanta to get back to DC at midnight. If you are looking to an Ocho Rios vacation, check the weather for the season and consider staying somewhere a little closer to the airport with other options than buffet dining to try to prevent the sickness possiblity."

"Unfortunately while staying here for a birthday getaway we experienced rain, rain and more rain. However one of the front desk staff went out of her way to make my birthday a celebration with decorations and a cake, which was very nice. As far as accommodations, room was decent but bed was like sleeping on a rock. Our oceanview room did have a beautiful view. Thankfully we had a wonderful housekeeper, probably the best we've ever had. She should be commended for her great work, which is why we gave this area such a high score. When it came to the dining experience, there was nothing to write home about, desserts were bland, main dishes salty, sometimes overcooked, simple things such as lemon for iced tea were unavailable,ice cream seemed freezer burnt, but the drinks were very good. The so-called Casino was in a moldy smelling basement with a bunch of slot machines. Entertainment was not very entertaining. Staff didn't go out of their way when something was needed. It took 2 days to get extra pillows and a couple of washcloths, no matter how many times we called the front desk. Several times we had to serve ourselves i.e. coffee, silverware, as servers were too busy chatting or didn't want to be bothered. We won't be returning to Jamaica let alone this particular hotel. On the days that were sunny we did enjoy the hotel's beach with free chairs and towels, but were constantly bombarded by the locals to purchase things. Going into town was even worse. Couldn't walk any where without constant harrassment. Not the type of paradise we were looking for."

"Just returned from Jamaica. First all-inclusive. The resort was beautiful however when we got to our room the mildew odor was a little overpowering. The room was very clean though. The service was good, staff very attentive. The food was just OK for us, mainly did the buffets. If you are interested in going to speciality dining room, book early. Only able to get one early sitting which was 7 pm. Late seating at 9pm. One thing that really turned us off was the birds. Has outdoor dining and it attracts ALOT of birds. Any plates left on table attracted a flock. Birds flying over and landing on tables. You can choose to eat all meals inside though. Enjoyed stay, just wish the weather was nicer. Can't control the weather. Most entertainment for the adult population."

"I must say this was the best vacation i have ever experienced. I can't wait to go back. Some negatives: hour and half shuttle drive from the airport to the resort..hmmm, that's about it. I was even a little hesitant about listing that as a negative since this was something i was well aware of before i even stepped foot on the island. Otherwise, the staff was awesome, they greet you with a drink as you are checking in. I was upgraded on the spot since we checked in early. i think what made the vacation so fulfilling was due to the excursions and off-site activities we booked. But for those who would rather relax on the resort itself, there's plenty of beach, pool and entertainment staff to keep you busy. I couldnt ask for better weather, average 85 degrees. sunny to party cloudy. 2 THUMBS UP!"

"Just returned two days ago. This is our second time there and was an even better experience than the first, which we thought could not be possible. Although the weather could have been better for a couple of days the service couldn't possibly be. Food at Buffet was the same as last time...plentiful and many varieties to choose from. Room was spotless and no problems with hot water, air cond. or towels..soaps..t.p. etc. Daytime drinks are watered down..night time drinks are stronger. The liquor dispensers in the room are full strength and bar fridge is always restocked..get your bump there in the daytime if you feel the need to stagger around the resort. Staff in restaurants go out of there way to be helpful..whether you tip or not...never any pressure to tip. Animation team...superb...great show every night! The only drawback is the loooong bus ride to and from the resort..going there is ok because you are anxious to get there..returning to the airport is miserable because you don't want to leave and the hassle at the airport is waiting for you as well. Overall......will be returning next year ( can't imagine there being any better bang for your Buck )"

"The hotel is beautiful and the property is well maintained. However, there are a few things that the hotel should improve on, they are: Customer service-the front desks clerks were quite sulky and were not cheerful at all. If there is a problem the workers become easily frustrated and can be rude. In the restaurants,the waitresses would pretend not to hear when the guests asked a question or wanted to request something. The conciege was not timely.....We requested our bags to be picked up at a particular time and it took five phone calls and 30 minutes later for someone to come and pickup our luggage. If you are looking for a cheap all-inclusive hotel with mediocre service then this is the place to go. If you have children this maynot be the ideal place....There are many inconsiderate adult guests who will do and say inappropriate things around children. Overall, this has been my third visit to Riu and I must say Riu Ocho Rios is the worst."

"This Hotel is beautiful! The Staff was Amazing and so helpful. The room was cleaned every day and fresh towels everyday and what ever else we needed or asked for, was attended to at once. They were all so helpful and friendly. The pools and beach are also on point. The only thing I will advise as I was advised from previous reviews were to Stay Away From the Jet Skiers. They are not from the Hotel, They dont bother but they will say Hi and try to get you to ride their jet skis. Overall it was an amazing experience. There were a few times we didn't have hot water but it wasn't a big deal. I would absolutely go again. We did a Catamaran that also went to Duns River Falls and we had so much fun, as well as Discovery Cove. It may sound repetitive but we had such a great time. If you are going to buy souvenirs buy it at the Airport the resort prices are outrageous!"

Again, reservations were definitely leveraged to promote gratuity, Room was nice, but had issues with insects and the Jacuzzi was not working when we got there. "I just returned from my vacation at the Riu in Ocho Rios and it wasa wonderful experience. I am a very open minded individual and so is my girlfriend. We are ages 28 and 25 and travel often, hoever this was our first experience outside of the courntry. We found that we had very little compliants with the service at Ocho Rios, Staff friendliness was amazing, very very very very clean resort as well. After going on this trip I find myself disappointed with the negative reviews left on this place. As stated above, the resort was spotless and the staff coulndt have been more welcoming and funny. I was almost turned away by some of the negative things said about the resort and people in the reviews. My girlfriend and I decided to keep our original plans and head to this resort with an open mind. I am soo glad that we did so.. We stayed in an ocean front standard.. We had two double beds pushed together( sooo what>???)....We were given a 'old fashion' lock and key for the safe as well as the room door. We are responsible individuals and found no such nuisance with this. One complaint although not a huge one is the water pressure and temp of water in the shower. Nonetheless, being that it was extremely hotttttt and all I did was sweat while outside, I found the luke warm showers to be very appeasing. Who takes a scolding hot shower in a tropical paradise anyways?....Another complaint would be the sum total 41 (literally) mosquito bites I got while on the beach each night. I had bug repellant on but was still eaten up . Now when I read about bugs on the beach prior to going I pictured myself swatting away at bugs each and every minute of each day on vacation. NOT THE CASE...lol I will say thes tiny mosquitos are stealthy and you only realize you have been nitten upoon waking up each morning to a insane urge to scratch away...(ankles and arms mainly...)
The food was amazing.. We were there 5 nights and not once did we make reservations for the restaurants. There we plenty of options with buffet alone. I was surprised and even ran out of time to try every buffet they had to offer. The sports bar was really cool..I was surprised to find that they were showing the Mayweather fight on May 4th..I really wanted to see that..very chill time watching the fight and drinking... Oh, another compliant...Wifi will frustrate you...The 90 minutes in the lobby each day is cool but......I mean who sits for 90 minutes a day while in Jamaica uploading pics and surfing the net...I promise you wont worry ab it...I have sprint... I turned all my data off and used wifi whenever I could...They do offer 3 days of wifi for 30 bucks and 12 hours at like 6 bucks or something like that. in the standard rooms..I dont know how deluxe side works but who cares...I was cool with the standard side..we could see the party pool and could tell if it was poppin or not...the deluxe side has the calmer pool with kids and older people...We stumbled upon this pool in like day 3 of our stay..Huge Resort!!!!!!
Bob Marley Tour...Very Very Very Very interesting.....I loved the fact that we got off the resort and seen some often unseen parts of Jamaica..... ..We booked the Zion bus later to find that if you dont book in groups of four then you will be assigned to the 4x4 tour....I heard bad things ab the 4x4 but after riding,,,i would not change a thing. I LOVED THIS RIDE TO BOB MARLEYS......The culture, the life, the kids chasing us...such a raw experience....They are looking for tips...be prepared to tip..another word of advice...TIPS TIPS TIPS>>>>>TIPSSSSSS ARE EXPECTED AT ALLLLLLL TIMESS>>>>SOOO AWKWARD IF YOUR NOT PREPARED TO TIP>>>THEY CALL YOU OUT BASICALLY......on the way to bobs we stoped at the coolest bar ever...I swear at first it was very sketch..but then we took some shots and drank some beer and it turned into something totally different...very cool owenr. I swear he is awesome....When you go there you will see a yellow and black Pittsburgh Steelers sticker where they pouyr drafts....THATS US>>>he was soo cool to allow us to tag his bar lol...cool dude...very awesome time....The Bob tour allows you to smoke while soaking up the culture.........Im a very generous person..I took 60 dollars cash on this trip and it wasnt enough...Between tippin my driver...all the kids who WILLLL chase your bus...and paying for brownies, ;) and tipping the bartender and buying a shot and beer and yadda yadda i ran out of money..Once came time to watch the band I was all out.. I tried to tell our tour guide this but he just yelled and said'dont come her with that American plastic....lol funny..Im a cool guy..I was in a perfect mood and just laughed this little guy off...he later apologized over a spliff.
Dunns River cruise was awesome..once again they will annoy you with the tipping situation..but keep in mind ..if your a smart prson with open mind..ull be just fine...I got fed up and started saying no and eventually the left you alone...DUNNS RIVER BOOZE CRUISE WAS AWESSSSOMMMMMEEEEEEE....MUST DOOOO.....
you will encounter mosquitos, you will be asked for tip after tip after tip....but you will also be in Jamaica, experience a lot of love, peace, see the greatest views. Laugh love and live...dont be anidiot with a close mind and get mad if there is a employee who just so happens to be having a bad day...Just smile and keep it moving..they mean no harm...they are human...
Oh yeah..We went to the town of Ocho Rios...My girlfriend was very uncomfortable.....a bit agressive in these little shops but whatever..Im a man..I can defend my grilfriend...we had no issues...Take care of your woman....Kindly say no to those who ask and you will be fine.

"Me and my boyfriend just got back yesterday and all i want to do is talk about it and tell everyone what an amazing experience we had. This was mine and my boyfriends first trip ever and we really didnt know what to expect, the hotel sounded nice and the pictures were beautiful but there were a lot of mixed reviews.
We stayed in an oceanfront junior suite and let me tell you it was well worth the extra money. The view was amazing we were right in front of the chapel so we got to watch a couple of weddings right from our balcony which was nice. The room was filled with tile and granite, very nicely decorated and super clean. Air conditioner was nice and cold, the showers hot and lots of liquor and drinks. The beds were a little too firm for me and they dont give you a kind bed but two beds that are pushed together which i wasnt a fan of but overall i was very happy with the room.
The staff at the riu was pretty awesome, they wernt all perfect but for the most part everyone was very friendly and hard working. One thing that i noticed while i was there is that a lot of people dont tip...please tip these people they work damn hard for almost nothing and even if u give them just a dollar they appreciate it so much. The drinks were not waered down and the service was always quick. Whenever you would walk by an employee they would give a friendly smile or a 'hey mon'. Everytime we walked aywhere there was someone cleaning, i was super impressed with how clean the hotel was. The only place that i found service lacking was at the buffet, some of the servers were great while a few of the others were a little too laid back for me but with that being said it is a buffet and almost aything that you need you can get it yourself.
I was very impressed with the food. Im not a big buffet person but almost every meal we ate at the buffet and i enjoyed it. They had a good amount of american and carribean foods with a huge salad bar and lots of deserts and fruits. The italian buffet that you go to for lunch was nice as well but it was always the same food and not much selection. The jerk chicken hut was awesome, very nice chicken and they serve it with rice an beans which was good as well. We went to two of the a la cates, Sir john and Mammy Bay. Sir John was my favorite, great food and great service it definitely felt like fine dinning. Mammy Bay I wasnt so impressed with. The gentelman at the door wasnt the friendliest and niether was out server. The salad and dessert was a buffet and sort of small. Our seating was at 9pm and we didnt recieve our food till 10:10pm by that time I was getting tired and had lost most of my appetite. The main course was good but it wasnt worth the wait in my opinion.
One thing that was kind of a bummer was the vendors in the water and on the seadoos, as soon as you looked at them 'hey mon, come here mon' some of them sell nacklaces and other rides on the seadoos. Just tell them that you are good and dont want any and they will leave you alone and tell you to enjoy your vacation. You dont buy their stuff and they are still very nice to you... no reason to be scared of them or anything they are just a little annoying.
The whole property was absolutly beautiful. The beach was so nice not too many weeds in the water and the sand is nice. Every morning they go along the beach and rake up all the seaweed, chairs all lined up every morning and there are gardeners working all the time maintaning the gardens and beach. Even the buildings are beautiful, you are surrouned by beauty in this place.
The shows at night were awsome, there was a differnt show everynight. The entertainers were amazing, always got the crowd involved, people were picked to go on stage and compete to win a prize. They did different dance routines everynight and almost eveynight at some point they had a live band with a singer. The shows at night were one of my favorite parts.
Overall I had the time of my life. Im so glad that I picked this resort for my first trip ever, it couldnt have been better."

"The Good
- The beach was beautiful with warm clear water and a mix of sunny and shady areas.
- The Building 1 infinity pool was amazing and that pool area was quiet and uncrowded.
- Blue Ocean! (ask your bartender:o)
- Gift shop prices were not too bad in general. I brought home some Blue Mountain Coffee for some savvy coffee drinkers and they all gave it very high marks.
- Service and staff; I still remember a staff member welcoming me to breakfast with a huge smile 2 minutes before the dining room was to close.
- We visited to attend a wedding. It was beautfiful! We had Plantation restaurant to ourselves for the reception dinner and the food was fantastic!
The Bad
- The wedding: As we were the only guests for the evening, I wonder why we were relegated to the upstairs of the restaurant while the buffet was served downstairs. It caused a lot of problems for parents with small children and people who had difficulty climbing stairs. Also, there was dead silence during the meal. The manager said there was no portable music player available. It would be a nice addition.
- The weather was hot and there was not much relief in the public areas: lobby, restaurants and elevators were not air conditioned. Disco was hot. You could adjust the temperature in your own room and the two stores on site were well chilled.
- My area of the hotel was very un-glamourous with a service elevator and proximity to what smelled like the garbage receptacle (there was a better elevator area but it was not convienient to the locataion of the room). It was low season and the hotel had a lot of vacancy so I am upset that this was selected for us. Our room was called 'oceanview' or 'oceanfront' but there was no water to be seen; only the pool. I know that I could have requested a room change but I did not think that my roommate would want to bother.
- There were ants and other critters crawling in our bathroom on the first day. I asked for the staff to spray the room which they did. It took care of the ants, but not the larger crawlers. I understand that there are bugs in hot climates where people set dirty dishes outside, but I wonder why staff don't spray on a regular basis between guests as a rule. And it might be a good idea for dishes to be picked up more often than once a day.
- I slipped out on the bathmat onto the bathroom floor. No drinking involved and the floor was not wet, just slippery. I hit my head and could have been hurt much worse. My advice is to use the handrail that is installed!
- It's 2012! Smoking? Really? Come on! We have grown very accustom to smoke free public spaces in Canada and it is disappointing to have to put up with it abroad. Especially at a 'family' hotel.
- Sports Bar smells awful and needs a good deodorizing and airing out. NFL Sunday was not available???
- The main pool was gross! Aged and missing tiles. I didn't go in but was told that it felt slimey. The kiddie pool in the children's area was the same. Some of the pool furniture was in terrible condition.
- The cleaning and maintenance staff were kind to guests but communicated by yelling down guestroom corridors which we could have done without. Walkie talkies seem like a good idea.
- The entertainment Is odd and random (Grease Lightning? Who does this cater to?) I would much prefer to listen to live reggae and other Caribbean music from dinner to the time the disco opens. And it doesn't all need to be Bob Marley. There are hundreds of other great musicians out there.
- Brown and orange towels are yuck! I think they are white on the luxury side of the hotel.
Overall, I had a wonderful vacation. I would have had a better time if I had taken the time to upgrade to a better part of the hotel when I arrived. Food and drinks were good but a few more low sugar drink choices would be nice. I would return and stay in a different part of the hotel and I would recommend it to friends."

Problems:
1.) No one assisted with luggage after disembarking the bus from the airport.
2.) Booked 3 rooms. Hotel only had 2 reservations. Took over 2 hours to resolve.
3.) While resolving the booking issue another guest behind us in line was returning to the desk to notify the staff that he had been given the keys to someone elses room - he entered the room and surprised them while they were showering. While waiting I also had pleanty of time to notice the pealing painting that was prevalent in the lobby ceiling. Not a good start...
4.) Finally we get to the room, and there was green mold on the lamp shades and black mold on the curtains.
5.) The tile floor was extremely slick from humidity. A problem I've never before experienced to such a degree in the tropics. I've lived in the tropics and visit very often. Something must have been wrong with the design or construction of the building, which also exacerbated the mold problem.
6.) We had 2 double beds. The sheets on one were stained badly.
7.) The room is supposed to accommodate 4 people. We had 3, and there were only 2 sets of towels.
8.) Could not reach the front desk by dialing 0 on the phone, No one answers.
9.) Walked to the front desk to ask for new sheets and another set of towels. After over an hour later I returned to the front desk to inquire again about the sheets and towels. I was informed they could not find the appropriate staff since they do not have a 'radio'. It took nearly 2 1/2 hours to get this resolved. The staf didn't seem to care.
10.) Lines were long for food and often the food for which I was waiting needed to be replenished by the time it was my turn. Staff was very inattentive, so replenishing drinks was better handled self service. Food quality was average at best. Deserts were not individually plated, so cakes and pies were self service and often mangled. Not only was desert often visually unappealing, but the taste was poor as well. At least there was enough variety to find something decent to eat, but again food wasn't replenished frequently enough. The experience was better at the steak restaurant.
11.) You have to get cards at the front desk to get towels at the pool. They were out of cards when we checked in, so we had to again go back to the desk to ask later. It apprears the supply of towels is insufficient for the volume of guests.
12.) We took a tour to Dolphine Cove. Dolphin Cove was very nice. However, the mini bus transportation wasn't. The wall panel fell off when I sat on my seat, exposing the metal framing to which it was attached. In places it was sharp and could have cut someone. Upon return we were notified that our original bus was diverted elsewhere, so we waited 30 minutes for another.
13.) Upon departure we again had to cart our own bags to our transportation.
In summation this hotel is run by quantity with little or no attention to quality. The facilities, staff and services provided were strained by the volume of quests. For the price paid it was extremely disappointing to say the least.
Some might say 'what do you expect in Jamaica?' To that I will respond that for a little more money Jamaica can do it very right and you can get vastly superior service: attentive and personable staff, clean and healthy accommodations/transportation, far superior food/entertainment and more personal space with fewer people at other resorts.

"My recent experience at RIU Hotel in Montego Bay was devastating. During my trip,I traveled with my three children along with Mom. I had a eight days and seven night stays. I got robbed in my hotel room by the third day. The thief took away with all my money along with a digital camera.. What made it so bad is the hotel had a do nothing policy'nonchalant attitude',. I was told everything is handled for any problems in spain. Meanwhile, my children ran out of diapers which they desperately needed and I had to money to buy them. The hotel offered no assistance and left me on my own to handle the problem. I am making everyone aware that a small issue such as mine was not handle well and hopefully nothing major will ever happen to anyone at this hotel. This hotel is not going to help you and you will be on your own."

"I just came back from my vacation at the RIU Ocho Rios on June 10, it was great. The hotel was so beautiful and big. The beach was perfect. The room I stayed in was a ocean view room but it seem like ocean fron to me. I can't wait to return next year. The only thing that was mediocre was the buffet. They need to change the menu day to day because it gets kind of boring but overall the hotel was perfect. The staff was very pleasant and nice. They had shows every night even for the kids. The staff interacted with the guest on a day to day basis."

"It was a pleasant stay at Riu Ocho Rios my brother had stayed there last year and recommended the hotel. On arrival there were many people in the hotel foyer as booking in was 3.00 pm. The staff appeared young and enthusiastic and were trying very hard not to keep people waiting to long. The hotel is very colourful and the staff very helpful with their typical Jamaican warmth no problem. The night entertainment was excellent most enjoyable i guess i was lucky because the shows were what i liked.

"So... Not sure where to start: that's how bad it was:(
We came to the hotel around 1am and thought we would be checked in in the next few minutes... Not really. The receptionists were extremely slow and had absolutely no record of what type of room we booked. We gave him a printed out copy of the reservation and when he went to the back to get the keys, he asked us what room we have booked... We told them that the room type was mentioned on the print out, however he responded to us that we never gave him one.
About half hour later we were finally off to our room, when we found out that the elevators do not work and the staff was not around to help us carry in the luggage.
We got to the room... Guess what, the pics of the room that you see here on bookit, is not a great representation of what you get: not even close! Red Rood or Holiday inn in the US is much better than what we got... The bed is so hard that you can iron your clothes on (there is an iron in the room, but no ironing board... Not to worry! You have your bed!) the pillows are super har and thick, that your neck will definitely be sore the next morning:( we called the receptionists twice about this: they did not do anything about the bed, however, they did bring a couple of softer pillows about 3 hours later...
Then comes our 'ocean view room'... Do NOT expect to see any ocean from this type of room. You will be lucky to see some palm trees, if that...
The lobby is super small and not attractive. When we were getting out of the airport shuttle, we were pretty ashamed to go into something that was pictured differently on bookit.
The pool area is good, not wow. To use a hot tub, you gotta make a reservation.
The massage in the hotel's spa is not something extraordinary. Not unique.
Time to get a bite to eat... Even though bookit describes about 12 different 24hour restaurants, there is only ONE that is open for breakfast and lunch. Only one restaurant is open for dinner as well, and other 2 dinner restaurants are only accepting people with reservations. The next day there will be open the other 2 dinner restaurants with reservations. The food is extremely oily and not tasty at all. There is not much of a seafood around, as we expected from such island. The restaurants with reservations are in a buffet style and are not different from any other place that is simply open to the public. The same type of food/meal you have to expect day after day. Overall, the food is BAD.
The service is pretty bad too. If you like to have dinner past 7, or just running late, do not expect the food to be refilled after about 7. they run out of food pretty quick and do not bother to refill or cook more. The waiters faces express a lot of attitude and 0 concern for the tourists. If they run out of silver ware, well, too bad for you, cause you will have to bring your own then. The tables are not being wiped/cleaned after people for hours. You have to be lucky to find one that is clean enough for you to eat.
The bars are open till midnight only. You can't get a drink anywhere after midnight... Hmmm.
Entertainment... Do not expect anything more than a band with fake/painted instruments pretending that they are playing and singing. No live music whatsoever. It is pretty stupid to be an observer of smth like that.
The beach... Ok. Super dark at night. Too windy during the winter, hard to sunbathe or swim. Clean. Too small though. It's scary to walk on the beach other than that of our hotel, cause its not a tourist area. No nightlife here. You are stuck in the hotel and that's about it.

If you leave food out in your room, you will get ants. The buffets were better than the sitdown dinners in my opinion. Except for the gourmet dinners but reservations for them were hard to get. The Riu Ocho Rios had a private beach with 24 hour police and security. The only vendors permitted were vendors hired by the hotel. The staff was very friendly. They were busy and things you take for granted at smaller hotels in the states took longer to obtain. But you;re on vacation, relax. Go with the flow and enjoy! We will be going back and will reccomend this resort/hotel to friends."

"Overall, the weather, local people and staff made it a pleasant interaction.
Having been to other resorts, May I suggest a few points to consider?:
1) Often the speakers were too LOUD which caused distortion. I speak English and I had difficulty understanding sometimes due to DISTORTION. When using a mike with an amplifier, NO NEED TO be louder than lovely. It is like singing in a choir, projection is important, not volume. Often the night shows were off putting as the MC was too loud. The singers in the hallways were beautiful, again, TOO loud and thus, unpleasant. Shows are about entertainment and escapism, and quality vs. just quantity and volume.
It would make it more professional.
2) Food-ample and good variety. Often had too much SALT- many people have high blood pressure problems, and it also spoils the flavor of the food item.
2a) TABLES SHOULD be washed down with Soapy water after each meal to prevent flies and little ants from coming back. Often, paper towel was used and this left behind sticky stains on the table tops. It would also discourage flies in the dining hall ( St. ANN's).
Good availability of hot sauce and Jalapeno peppers! Nice Jerk sauce at the BBQ hut!!!.
3) I DO not CONSUME ALCOHOL-it would be nice to see a 'bonus' such as a 'free' massage if you did not consume alcohol. It would be a perk and I would send more tourists to your resort.
4) All the drivers were SAFE and stayed within speed limits. THANK YOU.
5) From a public health point of view, DESIGNATED SMOKING areas would be preferred. Hard to be around smokers even though the events were outdoors. Again, hopefully, people will stop on their own. A lot people put out their cigarettes in the hallway- would they do this in their own home?
I doubt it. It just destroys your beautiful property.
6) Entertainment- each night show sometimes felt too long-lost interest- could have easily shortened each night to increase its quality.
7) Could have used more sinks to wash hands after eating. Often chairs and table edges were sticky and grimmy. It would spread NORWALK disease in 20 minutes throughout the whole resort. FREQUENT hand washing would also lessen the amount of cleaning your poor staff would have to try to keep up too.
Overall, a safe, beautiful setting with lots of light and shade. Beaches were clean and well patrolled.

The food wasn't all that great. The best food I had was from the Japanese restaurant and then the Steak House. I didn't get in the gourmet restaurant but I was told it was really good too. The buffets weren't all that great at all. My room was clean and nice. I was a little disappointed that my king bed was two full size beds out together that would move apart if you slept on or near the middle of the two. Overall the week I spent there was amazing and I do recommend this hotel to everyone, just know that the food isn't the best."

"I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. The place was clean, fresh and welcoming!!! food and drink was fantastic. Stayed there with 12 and 7 year old boys, and they cant wait to be back next summer. Went to Beaches Bascobel for a day after we went to Riu and the boys said it was rubbish when compared to RIU...kids are honest...what else can I say.....Book your stay today!!! you will have no regrets!!! And use bookit.com to save on your pocket...it can't get any better!!!!"

"This was my first time to the Riu hotel chain and to Jamaica. I had heard great things about the hotel chain so i was very excited about checking in. When i got to the hotel checking in was a nightmare. There was no line order and it took very long to check in (30 minutes). I was lucky because when i got there i only had 1 person ahead of me. Everyone on the line was frustrated. Be prepared to only make reservations for 2 restaurants. They tell you all of them are booked but they are not. For the remaining 3 nights we checked the restaurants they said were booked and they had more than half the restaurant empty. We tried getting a table since they were empty and we were told no. There is also no food available late at night. So if you go to the club or stay up late (2am) you will only find popcorn at the sports bar which is the only thing open after 2am. The staff, food, entertainment, activities and housekeeping were very good. I would however not return to this hotel. Loved Ocho Rios and going to Margaritaville ( the drinks barely have any alcohol though) is a most. We also walked around the town and it was pretty safe in the daytime. "

"My stay at Riu was amazing!! The staff was very accommodating, the grounds, pool side and beach were clean. The food was very good, they had something different every day. The entertainment was great. I enjoyed my stay i must say i had a fantastic time. The only regret i had was that i had to leave. "

"I want to say that i had the most wonderful time at this resort especially it being my first time in Jamaica me and my 2 girls loved it. The staff there is so friendly and very humble people, the room was beautiful, you have your own balcony with a beautiful setting of the beach which is so refreshing to wake up in the morning to see it. The food was awesome, and the Entertainment was a blast i could not go to sleep it was so much to do at the Riu ocho rios my kids loved every minute of the vacation. I plan on coming back very soon i did not want to leave. "
