Having arranged my post-Orient Express accommodation via Rail Bookers, my hotel expectation was secondary to the iconic train journey. As part of a 3 night surprise excursion for my wife (our first visit to Venice), I had contacted the hotel Metropole for some itinerary recommendations. The hotel's Head Concierge, the charming Giuliano Brogliato (ably assisted by Massimo Penzo), not only recommended some wonderful dining (delightful restaurants Da Ivo, Do Forni & Ponte del Diavolo) & visit locat... Arrived here by water taxi at the hotels private water entrance! We didn't like our first room and were quickly shown to another room which we accepted - no problem. Thus hotel is very quirky and retro with its many collections of memorabilia and antiques filling the corridors and reception areas of the hotel. The small garden is lovely - it was warm enough to sit outside here for breakfast when we visited in late May. The housekeeping was very good with clean fluffy towels provided, sometimes ... I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent at this hotel. I could not fault the staff, who were most helpful from the moment I arrived off the water taxi, to the moment I left again for the airport. Breakfast in the garden settting was a delight. The breakfast room was also beautiful. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring Venice. While I am sure there are more luxurious hotels in Venice, the Metropole's moody and sultry atmosphere was what we enjoyed. Access to the canal for a water taxi made the location even better. The breakfast room is sophisticated and large. The outside patio is well appointed and relaxing. The Oriental Bar was unique in it's decor and a handsome place to enjoy a cocktail.

Initially when my Husband & I looked at going to Venice for our anniversary we had wanted to stay in the Hotel Danieli (the one from the film 'The Tourist'), but after doing some research I actually preferred the look of the rooms in the Metropole and it was considerably cheaper. The hotel itself is wonderful and is in a great (but expensive) location. We upgraded to a Deluxe Lagoon View room, however if i'm honest i'm not sure it was worth the upgrade. I stayed for half a week in the Metropole. Fabulous, just fabulous! I was welcomed by the antiques in the lobby and crimson opulence everywhere. It is only two minutes away from the Danieli, so I would make a stop by Danieli for aperitif or night cap in the evenings. There is not much else to do in Venice itself after 8pm, so it is quite handy that Metropole has a wonderful restaurant where I enjoyed truffle dishes and beautiful wine. Every independent travellers nightmare. We arrived in Venice and expected to be met and transferred to our hotel. Nobody turned up so we rang the hotel. They told us the booking had been cancelled as there was a problem with the card we used to make the booking. We expressed some surprise as the hotel had not tried to contact us to let us know there was a problem. The manager told us they had emailed me and left a voicemail message. I told them we received neither but had very successfully... Read more

Tried the tasting menu with another couple at the one star restaurant in the Metropole last weekend. It was all a bit weird, and hard to understand the 1 star status. Things went sideways from the start with an introduction to the water menu. OK, so we could choose from different fizz or still varieties , fair enough. Having gone wild for the San Pellegrino, it took forever to show up. Those who ordered a beer were well onto finishing their drinks and the amuse bouche before we saw any agua.... Read more

The Metropole hotel saved us from every independent traveller nightmare. The hotel we had originally booked to stay in had cancelled our booking without informing us. The Metropole found us a room, and a great one to boot. The staff on reception were really helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is in a great position just minutes walk from the most important sites - St Marks Square, Doge's Palace and the Cathedral. The rest of Venice was all within easy walking distance. The hotel has a ... Read more

A beautifully designed hotel incorporating traditional Venetian touches with luxury details. We stayed in two different rooms, our favourite room was their top floor deluxe double which had a small balcony over looking the lagoon. All of the staff were extremely helpful and very friendly, nothing was ever too much trouble. We enjoyed some lovely cocktails in the Oriental bar and experienced great service by all the barmen. I would definitely recommend booking a private water taxi to make use of ... Read more

We celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary at the Metropole and we were not disappointed. Expensive - yes, but worth every penny. Upgraded on arrival and bottle of prosecco in our room when we checked in. Incredibly unique room with a beautiful bathroom. Top notch! The garden area, the oriental bar were fantastic too. Highly recommend this hotel to be well looked after. If we ever return, we will be returning to the Metropole!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights -- September 2016. This hotel is beautifully decorated, brings you back in time. The room was spacious and great. The breakfast in the garden was lovely and the service at breakfast was great. One point to mention, the customer service and the hotel staff are truly there to make your stay memorable. They gave great recommendations and when they feel that you are not happy -- they work extremely hard to find ways to make your experience memorable. The ... Read more

We stayed in a family room in the Hotel Metropole. There were welcome gifts for our kids and a lovely note from the manager upon arrival. Each floor has a different collection of antiques to be explored. The daily breakfast had fantastic selection and wonderful service. The staff set up the same table for our family each morning. The concierge recommended several excellent restaurants for dinner during our stay, as well as a complimentary water taxi right from the hotel to Murano.

Location location location, front desk staff was awesome!!! Gardens in the back are just beautiful - and food is to die for. Don't look elsewhere Rooms are standard European rooms, nice details and good bathroom by Venice standards. Remember, this city is old and modern amenities are harder to come by.

Superb position overlooking the lagoon and the stops for the water buses are right outside the hotel, and only a few minutes walk to St. Marks Square. Dont let the exterior of the hotel put you off, once inside you will be transported back in time with Venetian charm, elegance and opulence. Friendly welcome and room upgrade to a lovely large room with side canal view . What a grand lady the metropole is! Nestled on the grand canal just ten mins stroll away from the chaos of st mark's square, step inside this wonderful, tranquil hotel to glimpse a slice of Traditional Venice and take you back to a time gone past. All rooms are decorated in the traditional baroque style so expect lots of luxurious fabrics, furniture coverings and Venetian period furniture - a real feast for the eyes. Great hotel with great service. I loved my room also. My ONLY complaint was that i scheduled to have a water taxi the night before to pick me up at 9:45am, unfortunately the taxi did not arrive until 10:10 and I missed my train. Although, this may not have been the hotel's fault, the hotel got my destination wrong when I was checking out which may have been part of the problem. Nevertheless, great service, beautiful hotel, and great room. I loved being right next to the canal.

This hotel location is absolutely stunning. Overlooking the lagoon and so close to the water bus stop and few steps from St. Mark Square. The interiors are a fantastic opulent trip in the old baroque Venice. We had series of good late evenings drinking surrounded by old mirrors , red velvet luxury furniture and walls decorated with old tapestry gold embroidered. The staff is friendly and kind. Deserved treat if you visit Venice for a short city break.

Great location near the town and rail station. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Value for money breakfasts and packed lunches. The establishment is best described as old world and quirky. Lovely leather settees in the lounge areas and a small games room. Would have been great to have stayed when they have live music playing. Most enjoyable four days. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Plenty of hot water for showers etc.

Stayed here in April on a trip to Italy and loved the property. The hotel is gorgeous. It's a historic building (not sure if there's another kind of building in Venice) near St Mark's. The room was fairly standard for a nice European hotel rooms- smaller than what you might expect stateside, but well decorated and with wonderful service. The hotel arranged for a trip out to Murano to see the glass being made which we enjoyed. The restaurant has a Michelin star. The breakfast was incredible and... Read more

If not for the fact that our previous rooms in Florence and Rome were so spacious with great views, I'd give this hotel five stars. The staff was very helpful, the hotel in a great location, and the room itself clean and cozy. But..the room was quite small and the bathroom needed a bit more updating. But overall, for a quick two night stay, the hotel met all of our needs.

First trip to Venice and so glad we stayed here. The location was brilliant (couple of bridges from St. Mark's Square) so great for walking and a water bus stop right outside the front door. (There is also an entrance at a canal side door if using a water taxi!) Best of all were the wonderful staff - so friendly and helpful. Ive been thinking how to do a review on this hotel since I left last week. We arrived having booked a Deluxe Double room for two nights, I had booked the Metropole on the hope of having a nicer hotel but one less evening in Venice. The cost of this room was $610 per night, (£500). Upon check in, I was notified that they had chosen to upgrade us for our stay into a junior suite, once that provides the best view of Venice from its private balcony. What a wonderful stay we had well positioned only 3 bridges away from St Marks Square. The hotel is hundreds of years old but beautifully presented with richly decorated rooms that were large and very comfortable. The foyer is to die for with traditional mosaic flooring and marble columns off of the private jetty for guests arrival and departures. The breakfast offerings were delightful and I have written a separate review on the Met Restaurant worthy of a visit.

Fabulous hotel in a perfect location right on the Grand Canal and a short 5 minute walk from St Marks square. We were there over a birthday and had complimentary drinks at the bar and enjoyed relaxing in the oriental style lounge for a couple of hours. I cant find anything to criticise .We would certainly stay here again

Don't think we could have chosen a better hotel. Staff were excellent. Chaps in the bar were very friendly and chatty making us both feel at home. The room was attractive; though the 'view' over the canel proved to be more of a view of the wall on the opposite side. Probably chosing a view over the garden or lagood would have been a better option. But this did not detract from our enjoyment. The food was ecellent, though in the restaurant the choice was limited. Wow what an unusual hotel! We stayed three nights here on a rainy October weekend. The staff was amazing and our room was upgraded to a junior suite. But the dark red wallpaper and decor was oppressive. The owners have taken their antique hobby too far and the hotel was jammed with their unusual collections. We did enjoy the buffet breakfast and wished the weather was better to have enjoyed what looked like an amazing courtyard and gardens.
