Mosquitoes and attitude It's mosquito season but not warm enough for the management to turn on the air conditioning. Suffer with the windows closed in heat with the Mosquitos already in the room or open the window and invite more in to feast on your flesh throughout the night either way my souvenir of Venice are the 100 plus bites on my body. Basically management says "too bad" A few teeny bars of soap and prison like breakfas, mosquitoes included for just 300 euro Recommendation: make sure ... Read more

I really wanted to like the Hotel La Fenice et des Artistes. I stayed here in the early 1990s, with the person who later became my husband. We had a wonderful time. The hotel was quirky yet comfortable, in an excellent location, and reasonably priced. We were there in early December, a magical time to visit Venice ... Segue to 2016. The hotel doesn't seem to have changed much. The rooms are still slightly shabby, and mostly clean, except for some disgusting grunge in the shower. But the service... Read more

This hotel suffers from a similar complaint I have had in other Italian hotels.....really uncomfortable beds.I I have muscle and joint problems and suffer from chronic pain.My room was a twin bedded room. The beds had a thin mattress on top of wooden boards, sheer discomfort the Inquisition could have used these beds for instruments of torture.I hardly slept,I complained to a male member of staff who was really dismissive and told me all beds in Italy were like this.So I asked a female member of s... Very good location - about 5 minute walk to Piazza San Marco. The room was very clean, however single bed extremelly small. The walls were painted a dark red, very claustrophobic, but I guess that is Venice style. The room in general was small but was totally renovated and in general ok. Breakfast was ok, nothing special, but had the essentials.

This hotel is situated in a small, quiet square which is only a short stroll from St Mark's Square. Our room was perfectly adequate and clean. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were rather firm with no give in them at all. The bathroom was large with a good bath and shower. The only criticism is that there were no towel rails so we had to drape them over things to get them dry. The breakfast was pleasant and was replenished at regular intervals. There is a restaurant, of sorts, within... Read more

What a lovely place. In a quiet backstreet just 5 minutes walk away from St Mark's Square and just yards away from the beautiful opera house. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We arrived very late and starving on our first night and the night manager rang round to find somewhere still serving food. We hadn't told him, but he clocked from my passport that it was my birthday the following day and when we returned to our room after sightseeing there was a bottle of bubbly and a card waiting. ... We loved our stay here. The place is a very old palace just behind the opera house in Venice. We were given rooms which felt just like living in the 19th Century!. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They help guide you about the city, the places to check out, the local hang out scene. They advice you with restaurants and even help make bookings for you. The concierge was a particularly friendly gentleman (whose name I forget). Overall a fab experience if you want to soak in the true Veneti... Read more

This was a nice hotel, at a reasonable price. Good location. Average breakfast. Room was comfortable, small. If you would like a reasonable price hotel, in a good location, I would recommend staying here. The hotel is very close to San Marco Square. It sits on a canal, in the morning your can hear the Gondoliers playing the accordion, and singing. It has a great TV set, with lots of channels. The bathroom is small, but works. It needs a little updating, but overall for the price, a ok plac... Read more

Very Friendly and Helpful staff. Strategic position that is right in the middle between San Marco e Rialto. Breakfast was good, they were very nice when finding gluten free options for me. The rooms are as good as they can be in Venice without paying a fortune. In other words, I was satisfied.

This hotel is a cute and clean. The staff is helpful and friendly. The breakfast is quite good and the hotel is in a convenient location. The reason I give it three stars instead of four is that there is no shower curtain around the tub, so even though there is a shower head, we had to take baths instead of showers. This was inconvenient and cost us precious time.

We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights, it's not a 4 stars hotel after my opinion. Water leaking from toilet tank and bowl. The cable for "water" from air conditioner goes straight into the shower. Doesn't look pleasant at all. Not enough warm water for one shower. The beds were quite hard, and the choices of breakfast were few. Not recommended!

I am very happy with our stay in this hotel. The rooms aren't huge, but obviously, while staying in historical Venice, you can't expect a giant room. The breakfast was a little small, with limited choices. However there were juices, bread, jams, cheese, meet and coffee. The location of the hotel is just excellent. It is just 5 minutes walking distance from San Marco square, 3 minutes from an ACTV (waterbus) stop. I would go again to this hotel.

We had the pleasure of staying for 3 nights in what we thought a perfect location in Venice. It's about 5 minutes walk from the water taxi stop (if you don't get lost as my friend and I did at first) we thought our single rooms to be adequate for our needs. They are quaint and shabby chic in a nice way and the cleanliness of the rooms was very good.the reception staff were very friendly and helpful and we even had a lovely receptionist show us the way to a jewellery shop we could not find. An ideal location for a short stay in Venice, using a map the hotel had provided upon request. Staying in room 307, we had, we think one of only two room balconies in the hotel. Nice for happy hour in the evening sun. The room was tidy, complete with a small fridge hair drier and a tiny but free wall safe. There are two lifts in the hotel, but, at best are slow in reaching the desired floor. The hotel's dinning room unfortunately could not cope with all the residents at a breakfast sitting, and ... This is a charming boutique hotel, away from the crowds, but central to everything. The layout of the hallways to the rooms is a bit of a maze, but we thought it added to the charm. Our windows opened to the side of the opera house (Teatro la Fenice), and we could hear them doing vocal warm-ups for La Traviata. The hotel entrance is tucked away just around the corner from the opera house. Plan ahead using Google Maps so you know how to get here. We took the water bus (Alilaguna) from the cruis... Read more

The hotel was very quaint. It's a smaller hotel but still had a nice breakfast and light dinner option. It also has 2 small patio areas on the ground floor you could sit outside and have dinner or drinks. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was in a great location only mins walk from St Mark's Square and water taxi's to other areas. The only negative was the rooms air conditioners did not work well. If Location is everything when it comes to property then this cosy hotel merits its five star review for that reason alone. It is located just off the Grand Canal on a smaller canal called the Rio de la Verona. This means that if you have canal facing room you'll enjoy a constant (daytime) stream of gondoliers, oftentimes with singers and musicians on board giving you a unique and, for us, highly enjoyable taste of the local atmosphere for free. Room 154 is directly above the hot water main. It traces a straight line in the room and radiates heat all day and all night - pretty miserable. The AC unit is inadequate to compensate for the radiant heat. No screens on the windows so opening them only let the mosquitos in. Otherwise, great location, helpful staff. Breakfast was adequate.

When I describe this hotel as 'tired and worn out' do not be put off, whilst the furniture and fixtures in our room were old, damaged and generally mismatched the hotel was perfect for us, full of character, very close to all the main attractions with several restaurants within metres of the hotel. All the facilities in the room were functional and clean, the staff were first class, would I recommend it? Yes but don't expect a swanky 4 star hotel.

I came to Venice for opera and chose the Hotel La Fenice Et Des Artistes as it is next door to the opera house ... so, very convenient and the major sights are not far away. I came by water taxi from the airport and the driver's directions to the hotel through narrow alleys was exact though the hotel had already forwarded guidance via email but via a different route. This is the second time we stayed here and we were quite disappointed with a few things. 1st off we had hoped to get the same room we had in 2010 but the room we got was much smaller. This was the mistake of our travel agent though so that is not why I am giving this hotel a 2 star rating. (However, the hotel was not very helpful in rectifying the problem. There's nothing much to say about this hotel. Very basic. It is situated in the heart of Venice closed to San Marco, La Fenice Opera and other tourist attractions. The reception was very helpful. The room was not that bad. It's clean. However, there were some dead stuck mosquitoes on the ceiling! The breakfast was limited. Overall, this wasn't bad for the price we paid!

This hotel is in an excellent location near to the Opera House. The staff were superb - very professional and really helpful. They also had a facility to print out return boarding passes. Whilst the hotel does have a certain old world charm it is in need of a refurbishment. The bedrooms are a little tired. Breakfast was very disappointing with limited choice and rather poor quality.

This was the second time I've stayed here - fab location and the reception staff were very efficient. Diego was excellent at dealing with many things at once, and was particularly helpful with our water taxi arrangements (traffic jam on the canal!) Francesco is amazing at remembering names, room numbers and likes/dislikes. Other staff nice too. My single room was good-sized and perfectly comfortable. I would stay there again for a good level of quality for the price.
