Ideally placed opposite the railway station and vaparetto stops. The hotel is lovely with magnificent glass chandeliers giving the place a sense of grandeur which it deserves. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room we had was large with marble bathroom. The hotel has a roof terrace where you can eat or have a drink whilst enjoying the sun. There is a coffee shop/bar area by reception and a main restaurant for evening meals which is also used for breakfast which was plentiful with a... Read more

This hotel is perfectly situated. The room we had was just a classic, so no extras at all. Not even tea or coffee in the room. However as we didn't spend a lot of time there it didn't matter for a few nights. bathroom was nice, good quality towels and clean. Breakfast was lovely, the staff we very nice and polite. I did ask if there was a better room we could have and was told they could move us to the front with a view of the canal, but was told it gets very noisy so we stayed where we were... Read more

We had stayed here 2 years ago in a courtyard room which was nice so we booked for 4 quite expensive nights. We had a nightmare transfer which the hotel had arranged and received very little empathy from the manager and a refusal to refund. The room was clean and comfortable but the walls were paper thin and we heard everything happening in the surrounding rooms at all times of the night. Breakfast was again low quality continental with the only cooked option being bland scrambled eggs and bacon... Read more

Rooms are always at a premium in Venice, but this could have been a little better. A view overlooking the back of another room, no tea/coffee making facilities (now standard in 4* Italian hotels) and poor storage in the room. I know it's supposed to be "a touch of antiquity, typical of the most prestigious mansions of Venice" but sometimes antiquity just looks scruffy. There was a shower curtain over the very narrow bath with the shower head in an odd position (across the bath rather than at the... Read more

We decided to spend a little extra on lodging in Venice, and chose this hotel, what with its 4-star rating. It was a decision we regretted soon after. The room was old and the cupboards were chipping, nothing like the photos on their website. But the worst was yet to come. We were given a room on the 4th floor, next to the restaurant. After a long day of walking around, we had planned to sleep early, when a concert started in the restaurant, lasting till 1am. The music was so loud and on top of ... Read more

The hotel is exactly opp the Venice Island Main station. So its easy to get your luggage and just walk across the bridge and check-in. The sight seeing almost always starts around the St. Marco Sq. So you will need a water bus to get there. Being closer to the station, all facilities and access are just close-by - bus stops, taxis, cafes, shops and a small market. The rooms are however of varied sizes. Please make sure you get a decent sized. We got almost 3mx3m and we could barely move around. ... Read more

Very dated hotel. Needs serious renovation. Not worth the kind of money it asks for. The location is good. House keeping is poor. We left the room after breakfast. When we returned in the evening the table tops were still dirty with spillage from the previous day. No tea/coffee making facility in the room and room service is chargeable after 7pm. One of the rooms allocated was smelly also. An expensive hotel, not worth the money spent

We visited Venice twice on our last trip and stayed at two different hotels on the Grand Canal. This one was by far and away the better of the two and the price point was maybe $50-$75 more and it was well worth the difference. The rooms were nicer, the amenities better. Hotel Carlton has a full service bar as well as a roof top veranda with food service. The veranda overlooks the entire city and grand canal. A great place to hang out and have a drink after a long tourist day.

Out of the 5 hotels we stayed in on our trip through italy, this was the most expensive... and also the least enchanting. Nobody said hi when we walked in. Nobody said hi as we ate breakfast. Breakfast was bland. Rooms small and impersonal. Location is literally right across from the train station.... so if that's a good thing for you, that's good... but it leaves for poor views. On arrival by water taxi the hotel is 3 steps from the landing stage, a beautiful traditional Venetian hotel reception greets you. The rooms are compact as with most city hotels but again these are in traditional Venetian style, the rooftop bar and restaurant hold magnificent views up the canal, and the food was quality and delicious if a little on the pricey side. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive without being intrusive the service was very good and the breakfast which is included... Read more

Had a room overlooking the Grand Canal which was nice. There is a rooftop bar which is a great place for a drink in the evening, something not many Venice hotels have If you are spending a night before a cruise, a great place to stay as it only a few minutes walk away from the transit system ( a couple of bridges to navigate though as you would expect in Venice) The train station is also close by

Stayed here for 2 nights prior to a Cruise leaving from Venice, Arrived by water taxi from the airport to a beautiful walkway to the hotel and into a stunning hotel lobby. The Hotel is classic Venetian and beautifully decorated with marble floors, large pillars inside and dark wood at the receptio (Very clean hotel and brightly lit), The staff were very helpful and spoke wonderful English. We were given a balcony room overlooking the Grand Canal! This was so thrilling for us since we had never been to Venice before! Sitting on the balcony with refreshments watching the water taxis, gondolas and happenings was so romantic and fun. The room was furnished in Old Venetian style. (Beautiful!) We are going again next summer and have requested the same room. If reserving, make sure you ask for one of the balcony rooms or you may just get a view. This hotel is right across the ca... We visited Venice with a tour and stayed here. Our room was so small we were unable to open both suitcases at one time and still be able to walk in the room. In the morning, however, they did change our room when we politely insisted on a different room. The breakfast room was a complete disaster. They were understaffed and there were dirty dishes on each table. We had to push the dishes into a pile to make room so that we could eat breakfast. In the evening we had cocktails on the rooftop. We stayed here for 3 nights while on a family holiday. The staff throughout the hotel was very friendly, courteous, and helpful. The lobby and bar are lovely as you walk in the front doors. Our room was clean and the air conditioning worked wonderfully. We did not have a canal view from the room, but did have a view of the courtyard and the position of the room made it very quiet, which was nice. The room was not very modern, but I feel like that is the point of staying at a hotel such as this. ... Read more

The room was fairly large. We walked in through the main door to a 3-door wardrobe in front of you. A door on the right led to the main room with: a king sized bed, two bedside tables, a dressing table, one arm chair and a minifridge with plenty of walk way. The en-suit had a large bath/shower, a sink, toilet and bidet. The whole place was decorated in an old Venetian style. Staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and accommodating. The room was on the small side with no view. We had a problem with a water leak in the bathroom and associated smell, the leak was fixed in reasonable time but it was necessary to ask several times for the bathroom to be cleaned. Dining was ok on the first night, on the second night we turned up at the restaurant for dinner the waiter asked us if we had a reservation when the restaurant was empty and we were obviously staying at the hotel. Overall the hotel scored average being overpriced and bo... Read more

We paid a fortune and were given a tiny room with a view of rusting broken roof and pipes. There was only enough room to open one suitcase, with any others having to be on the bed.The bathroom shower had no shelf so if you are concerned about germs, be warned you have to put your bar of soap on the floor of the shower. Across from the train station means carrying your luggage up and then down a large bridge of stairs.

This is such a romantic city and the hotel did not disappoint either. It was in a great location especially as it was next to the bus station so we didn't have to walk very far in the early hours of the morning to get our coach transfer back to the airport. As it was a special occasion I upgraded to the suit it was beautiful and we didn't want leave. On the downside the breakfast was a little chaotic and it was difficult finding a seat even for two - but that's what happens in Italy, mist ho... Read more

Located just across the Venice Railway station on the bank of Grand canal, this is a perfect 4 star hotel for tourists. Their professional approach is addition to this hotel. Breakfast is having limited options for vegetarians. This property provides complimentary tour to Murano Glass factory but on our way back they drop us to San Mark's square which is some 30 minutes walk from the hotel. They have beautiful sky lounge and bar. Minibar in room. Free wifi (you won't find speed though). They do ... Read more

Located at train station on the Grand Canal. All modes of transport within easy reach. Hotel itself is at best a 3 star but it is a very clean hotel with excellent air conditioning. Breakfast is included but don't bother. Really bad coffee and poor quality ingredients. They offer a large assortment at breakfast but nothing worth eating. Considering how expensive hotels can be in Venice I shouldn't complain. Just don't expect anymore than convenience and a clean room to sleep in.

The hotel was very Grand but needing a little bit of a retouch in places, however friends and family had rooms here with beautiful view of the cannel and there rooms were nicer. Unfortunately there isn't tea and coffee facilities in the room but there is a fridge. We have been here for three days and am amazed and disgusted with some of the negative comments. We have sampled the breakfast and it is comparable with most four star hotels we have stayed in. My daughter said it had the most variety she has seen abroad. The roof terrace, bar and restaurant is a gem. Something most hotels in Venice don't have. During our stay we have needed help from the hotel and the staff were faultless. Yes the rooms are small but that is what you expect in this type of hote... Read more

Stayed in room 209, has a small balcony which overlooks the grand canal, this was the saving grace of the room, especially as we had a great view of the regatta storica, but unfortunately we felt like we had been transported back in time to about 1981 and although shabby chic is very venice the hotel has had no love and attention for decades, clearly the money you pay for your stay is not invested in the hotel, with one exception.. Located overlooking the canal, central location, right opposite the station and a walkable distance to the bus stand. The rooms are old but maintained well, washrooms looked new and clean. Staff members were welcoming. WiFi was available strong but in the lobby. Breakfast buffet was the worst I have seen, everything seemed to be cold and stale with minimal options. We only stayed a night in Venice and I personally think that is all there is to see there.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a two week trip around Italy. I booked through lastminute.com "Secret Hotels" to get a reduced rate, but it was still expensive at around EUR350 for 2 nights. Although most hotels in Venice are very expensive so this was not necessarily out of line. Our room, 501, was a ground floor facing the inner courtyard and did not have a window. Fabulous location, okay room but over-priced and money-grabbing approach to guests. I booked a double room but we were given a twin which they refused to change. Instead they put a mattress topper on the beds. Not good. Watered-down juices at breakfast and poor choice of breakfast items. The roof-top bar charged more than the Hilton on Giudecca for cocktails and food! Room was okay but showing signs of wear and tear. Not VFM.

I thought that the location for this hotel was great. Right opposite the station, so many of the signs around the city and water buses lead straight back and its on most main routes. Room was clean and spacious, if not slightly dated. breakfast was fairly limited. However when in Venice, it's all about getting out and about and seeing the city, so given the great location it deserves 4 stars.
