We booked this hotel via B. A. For a reasonably priced break for three nights , it was perfect for our needs , in a great location close to the opera house ,close to San Marco square and the Rialto bridge . One of the essentials for a short stay is the location and this fits the bill perfectly. Quaint little hotel , tucked away in a court yard just off the square ,the web site doesn't do it credit . For Venice the rooms are not as small as the description indicates . For us on a short break, ... Read more

This is a really nice hotel in an absolutely great location right near to the Opera House. Although it is so central and near to St Mark's Square it was really quiet and peaceful. The bedroom was typically Venetian in that it was small but well furnished with attractive fabrics, and the ensuite bathroom was actually more luxurious than most. The breakfasts were absolutely great, with an excellent choice. You really couldn't do better in Venice for convenience and price.

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel and enjoyed it very much. The location is very good, right in the middle of everything and about 5 minutes from San Marco square. Hotel staff was helpful and friendly. Our room was very clean and spacious. The breakfast was good for 3 stars hotel with very good coffee. It has a little bar and even at night when it was closed, the receptionist opened it for us and gave us hot drinks There is no elevator in the hotel, but as we checked before the booking, none of ... My partner booked this hotel for 2 nights for our 10th anniversary as a suprise. The hotel is hidden away down a side street in a little courtyard, so was a little hard to find but the man on reception was lovely and helpful. We did ask for a coffee and was pointed to a little cafe/bar by the theatre which was quite cheap and they did some lovely cocktails and gave us a little bowl of crisps complementary. The hotel is about 5 minute walk from the hotel which is well worth a look around its so r... Read more

The location and overall feel of the hotel is great. Amazing location, beautiful building. I was in room 204 with a view back onto the little passageways that make up the local area. Not very quiet but perfectly restful. The rooms are small, as are all rooms in Venice in this budget, but the bed was very comfortable and the room was well organised and charming. I have two major gripes with this stay: 1) There was no iron or ironing board. Not a dramatic issue, I can get by with steaming the sh... Read more

Situated right within the buzz of Venice is the Hotel Ateneo. Stayed there at the beginning of June for 4 nights. Arrived after 1 am in the morning and was welcomed by the gentleman on duty. Gave us our keys and made our way to our room 209. Our room looked out over the canal which straight away was a plus for the whole Venice experience. Breakfast in the morning is more than enough to fill you up to start your day of sight seeing. A short walk and you are in St Marks Square ready to face th... Read more

My first time to Venice and i was lucky to choose Ateneo which has a great quiet location that is a short walk from major attractions. A quiet hotel with a reasonable breakfast and helpful staff, the room size is good for 2. If it's your first time and/or you have luggage get a porter from the water taxi station, 20 euro is well worth the 5 minute walk. Of course there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

First the good , fantastic location , minutes from San Marco , and the water business shuttle to airport ( 27 euros return ) Room very ornate and ours facing canal . Not so good no bar or just having a coffee apart from breakfast . After wandering round venice all day long it would have been nice to return to hotel and sit in the enclosed courtyard and relax with a drink . So for this reason alone I would choose another place.

We stayed at the Hotel Ateneo for 3 nights and overall were extremely pleased. The hotel is quite small and boutiquey but the rooms are beautifully decorated with aircon, a safe & a fridge. Breakfast in the morning was basic but really yummy & the staff were friendly and helpful. The only criticism for us was there wasn't really anywhere to 'hang out' in the hotel, other than the small foyer area and the few tables outside of the hotel. This really wasn't a massive issue though as you're rig... Read more

We stayed in Hotel Ateneo for one night in June and it was just perfect. The rooms are quite small, but very romantic and decorated beautifully. Breakfast in the morning was great with a wide selection of food. The hotel is near several major attractions, so it suited us well. We would definitely return if we were in Venice in the future!

Just spent a day here before catching a cruise. I try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Weigh out the pros and cons. Put myself in their shoes. But there was one staff member that was so RUDE that the hotel deserves a bad review. I want to make sure I justly review this... Front desk staff at hotel are in the industry of customer service. You deal with the good, bad and ugly. We asked for directions to a local restaurant that was fine. We even got a free drink for saying the recommen... Read more

We stayed three nights in this hotel. Gentlemen at front desk on arrival was helpful. Room was small but enuff room for a family. One issue was no lift but its an old venetian building. Our room looked out to the little courtyard. Breakfast was ok not alot of choice and a bit squeezy. Could do with an update of the toaster. Overall location was good close to san marco it was s big difficult to find but once you find your way ig was quiet easy. To access ghe hotel catch ferrh no. 1 frim train sta... Read more

The Ateneo is an old fashioned, traditional hotel which is perfectly situated; it is a mere 10 minutes walk from both St Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the rooms were spotlessly clean. A continental breakfast is also included in the price which provided a good choice and was fresh and plentiful (and can save you a fair bit of money in quite a pricey city).

Located in a lovely old building full of marble and antiques. Including the plumbing and hot water system must be at least a few hundred years old. Not enough water pressure for a shower and it took two hours to fill the bathtub. The rooms are quite small and inadequately appointed, with hard beds and an odor that cannot be banished. I recommend that you stay at the Ateneo if you enjoy living history and stale breakfast.

The key thing about this hotel is its location. You can stroll easily to many of the attractions in Venice, and for those that you cannot walk to, the water bus stop is a 5 minute walk. As others have said, our room was small, but adequate. Not enough space to put cases for 2 adults anywhere other than on the floor, blocking the door, but this is an Economy stay, not the Danielli! We were on the 3 rd floor, which was a bit of a struggle after a long day of touring, but I guess the exercise did u... Read more

Our stay: 4th Nov night to 6th Nov morning. Location : It is quite close to all the important places in Venice. Avoid to reach the hotel during the night. We experienced difficulty in locating the hotel..Of course, Venice is like that with small lanes. Staff: ALL THE STAFF MEMBERS WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS Amenities: The hotel has to improve in this area a lot. No kettle in the room to make coffee or tea.. TV signal keeps failing. We stayed here for a night. We took airport vaporetto to reach San Marco stop and ten we had to walk with our luggage through the narrow lanes of Venice. From outside it looks very cozy.Main problem: they do not have any lift! And you have to carry your own luggage to your floor. The room is very very small, same applies to the bathroom also.We had complementary breakfast and yeah it was good. But definitely not worth the money. We kept our luggage in the hotel as our return flight was in the afterno... Overall, we enjoyed this hotel; beautiful décor and rooms. No elevator, so be prepared for stairs. We had a canal view room on the second floor. Enjoyed the views, but if you're not prepared for some background noise from boats in the canal as early as 6 am, then reserve a room away from the canal. Good refrigerator and Internet. Close to San Marco Square, The Grand Canal, and a variety of good restaurants. We found the beds somewhat firm, but got okay rest due to being tired from a lot of wal... Read more

In my 50 years of travelling. this was the WORST hotel I ever stayed in. They did not mention that there was no elevator. My room had windows that opened into an airshaf.t There was no one to speak with. The staff has limited English. The room looked like a large coffin and given the lack of windows., The breakfast was gross - nothing was fresh - all canned or packaged .The photo on the Hotels.com website is misleading, The hotel does not look like that. It opens into an alley where there was... Read more
