My family and I stayed at Hotel Abbazia in late April and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was booked for us through Gate1 and we weren't sure of what to expect, but were so happy and surprised. The hotel had the most helpful and friendly staff, and Alvise was so charming and helpful our whole stay. The hotel is located off a small side street by the train station, but in a great area. We felt safe, had easy access to the water taxis and many options of places to eat and drink. When you book... Read more

We stayed here 2 nights at the end of our Gate 1 tour of Croatia and Slovenia. Venice happens to be our favorite city in the world and we have always stayed near the Rialto Bridge. Consequently, this was very different for us. The hotel is located near the train station, pretty far from that bridge and from St. Mark's Square. We like to walk everywhere in Venice as opposed to taking a water bus and we did A LOT of walking. As has been mentioned, the hotel had no air conditioning and we had to... Read more

Delightful hotel which started life as a monestary. Beautiful features throughout, lovely garden area to sit in, very clean and helpful, attentive staff who did everything they could to assist after my wallet was stolen. Very easy to get to train, bus and water taxi stations and a wonderful quiet retreat from the frenzy of the tourists.

We love this hotel. This is our third visit. It is so conveniently situated near the station but you can't hear anything other than the church bells in the morning. We've stayed in higher starred hotels but the Abbazia more than meets our needs. Loved this hotel. At first my husband was upset walking down an alley, he wanted to be on the main street. But he changed his mind when he saw the lobby. The hotel is an old monastery and the lobby is just like it was. There is a bar in there that serves coffees and drinks. The breakfast is amazing. Anything you could possibly think of. And there is a little garden that you could take your breakfast, or just to read. Rooms are small but fine. Ours looked out over the alley. And Matteo,... Read more

When in Venice, it's important to stay in a hotel near to the railway station so as to minimize the hassle of lugging heavy bags down the streets or going onboard water buses. Hotel Abbazia is a very good choice - 3 mins' walk from the Venezia S.L. Railway Station. Helpful staff, clean and quiet room as well as very good quality breakfast provided. AIr-conditioned room (but air-con was a little weak in strength). No elevator in this hotel. Free WIFI in rooms available.

We highly recommend this comfortable, quiet hotel for it's atmosphere, location and courtyard to enjoy with a very good breakfast. As important, the entire staff was wonderful and went out of their way to help when I became very ill. We are so appreciative of all they did and we hope to return there to enjoy Venice.

Upon our arrival at this hotel, we found the staff to be very friendly. Although old, the hotel has been relatively well looked after and was clean. Our room was quite large and had shutters and windows that we could open. The room was always quite warm with the heating, so we opened them often. The hotel is right near the train station and a short distance to shops and restaurants. We were able to walk to Doge's Palace and the gondola docks, although the water taxis are also available. Very nice hotel close to the train station and Grand Canal. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms on the small side, but not untypical for Europe. Down a back alley, so it is quiet. Very convenient for travel with the train station or for cruises. We stayed pre-cruise in May 2015, and they assisted us in getting someone to haul the luggage over to access the tram to the port area. Overall, a very nice place to stay!

We were told that this was a former monastery which was converted to a hotel. Breakfast buffet was okay, but not as many choices as previous stops.

Good room for a family of four located close to the train station (which you will appreciate when you see the lines of luggage toting tourists waiting for expensive taxis or vaporettos to take them to their hotels along the Grand Canal). Decent breakfast. Our room only had a tub (no shower) with a spray attachment. If we had stayed longer than one day we'd have had to learn how to use it.

We felt so fortunate to have booked Hotel Abbazia, a great location close to the Train Station, People Mover & Piazza Roma and tucked down a quiet lane. We enjoyed all the yummy breakfast options and were able to either sit in the dining area or outside in the shaded and lush courtyard. Rooms were comfy and clean. Loved the history behind this former monastery. Best of all, the staff were exceptionally accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay fun and memorable!

The position was fantastic, we caught the train to Venice and it was just around the first corner so if you have luggage it is very close. The next day we had to walk to the cruise terminal which was a little further but still walking distance from this hotel. The room decor was a bit drab, but clean enough, the breakfast was plenty ( but staff didn't want to help). The outdoor area was beautiful to sit and have a drink in the afternoon, I would stay here again if I go back to Venice.

This hotel could not be in a better position, close to the train station and vaporetto stops on the canal. Previously an old abbey, as the name suggests, it is a quiet and peaceful place with a beautiful garden where you can relax away from the hustle and bustle when you need to recharge your batteries. The staff could not be more friendly or helpful, happy to provide information about their city and the best places to go and how to get there.

Having stayed here many years ago we were delighted to find that it has lost none of its welcoming ambience. All the staff were great and the garden is a bonus. Breakfast perhaps a bit limited but made for a decent start to the day.

Our room was simply charming and much larger than most European hotels that we have experienced. The location could not have been better, being only a few blocks from the train station...very important when you are walking and dealing with luggage!

This hotel is one of the best in Venice. It's my very favorite one and I'm always happy to go back to there. It's built in an old monastery, and one can feel this history, it feels like being a real good spot there. The rooms have got a pinch of of that, but also a real good italian groove plus that special Venice spices... Relaxing and also romantic is the nice garden. A great plus is also that the main station is very near, just a short walk of some minutes and one arrives. Stuff is helpful an... Read more

After several Airb&b stays and basic hotels I was so happy to stay here. Location is perfect; down a quiet side alley off a business street and a five minute walk to the train station. The staff are so friendly. Great lobby ambience and room decor. Sizable breakfast included and working wifi. And great patio gardens! It was a lovely haven from the tourism madness and the rooms are so quaint and stylish for the price. Definitely recommend.

This was our first visit to Venice and we were a little concerned about how to get around the place and we had to find a location for the start of a guided tour booked the next day. On arrival at the hotel the man at reception was very friendly and helpful telling us the best way to get around and supplying us with a map. The breakfast was excellent with everything you could wish for. There was a nice lounge bar in the hotel although we did not use it. Our room was nice not a large room but o.k... Read more

First I hesitated to review again as I have written so many and I was a bit traumatised by the vastly more expensive period I'd chosen to visit in. Also,on the last two nights of our four night visit I was kept awake by the inconsiderate person in the room above constantly walking over and back on the tiled floor in heels until the early hours of the morning (jet-lagged Americans please remember there are people from the same time zone desperate to sleep below!) but then I decided it wasn't fair... Good location, very close to train station. The hotel is not modern, however the size of rooms are bigger than european standards, clean and not in a noisy area. The staff is very friendly, breakfast is included and exceeded our expectations. I recommend it.

This hotel is well positioned near the train station and grand canal. We travelled here on our honeymoon and the staff are fantastic. We were given a beautiful room which was spacious and very large. The desk staff couldn't be more helpful with giving information on Venice and how to get to the cruise terminal after our stay here. If you want a warm, friendly, traditional hotel this is the one. We will definitely be returning.

Enjoyed this hotel, the room was big and the bathroom was enormous for European standards, close location to train and bus stations. Would definitely stay here again. Staff were very helpful and courteous.
