My family and I stayed at Hotel Abbazia in late April and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was booked for us through Gate1 and we weren't sure of what to expect, but were so happy and surprised. The hotel had the most helpful and friendly staff, and Alvise was so charming and helpful our whole stay. The hotel is located off a small side street by the train station, but in a great area. We felt safe, had easy access to the water taxis and many options of places to eat and drink. When you book... Read more

We stayed here 2 nights at the end of our Gate 1 tour of Croatia and Slovenia. Venice happens to be our favorite city in the world and we have always stayed near the Rialto Bridge. Consequently, this was very different for us. The hotel is located near the train station, pretty far from that bridge and from St. Mark's Square. We like to walk everywhere in Venice as opposed to taking a water bus and we did A LOT of walking. As has been mentioned, the hotel had no air conditioning and we had to... Read more

Delightful hotel which started life as a monestary. Beautiful features throughout, lovely garden area to sit in, very clean and helpful, attentive staff who did everything they could to assist after my wallet was stolen. Very easy to get to train, bus and water taxi stations and a wonderful quiet retreat from the frenzy of the tourists.

Superb location as it is not far away from train station just 5 mins walk to hotel. Very central to reach very part of Venice. Nice cosy hotel with historical setting. Spacious room. Warm and friendly staff. Good spread of breakfast. Will definitely stay here again for my return trip.

We love this hotel. This is our third visit. It is so conveniently situated near the station but you can't hear anything other than the church bells in the morning. We've stayed in higher starred hotels but the Abbazia more than meets our needs. The normal double rooms are very comfortable with a good bathroom and is always kept very clean. The superior double rooms are a bit more spacious but both meet our standards! The staff are super friendly which is a definite bonus! Breakfast is excellen... Read more

Loved this hotel. At first my husband was upset walking down an alley, he wanted to be on the main street. But he changed his mind when he saw the lobby. The hotel is an old monastery and the lobby is just like it was. There is a bar in there that serves coffees and drinks. The breakfast is amazing. Anything you could possibly think of. And there is a little garden that you could take your breakfast, or just to read. Rooms are small but fine. Ours looked out over the alley. And Matteo,... Read more

When in Venice, it's important to stay in a hotel near to the railway station so as to minimize the hassle of lugging heavy bags down the streets or going onboard water buses. Hotel Abbazia is a very good choice - 3 mins' walk from the Venezia S.L. Railway Station. Helpful staff, clean and quiet room as well as very good quality breakfast provided. AIr-conditioned room (but air-con was a little weak in strength). No elevator in this hotel. Free WIFI in rooms available.

We highly recommend this comfortable, quiet hotel for it's atmosphere, location and courtyard to enjoy with a very good breakfast. As important, the entire staff was wonderful and went out of their way to help when I became very ill. We are so appreciative of all they did and we hope to return there to enjoy Venice.

Upon our arrival at this hotel, we found the staff to be very friendly. Although old, the hotel has been relatively well looked after and was clean. Our room was quite large and had shutters and windows that we could open. The room was always quite warm with the heating, so we opened them often. The hotel is right near the train station and a short distance to shops and restaurants. We were able to walk to Doge's Palace and the gondola docks, although the water taxis are also available. Very nice hotel close to the train station and Grand Canal. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms on the small side, but not untypical for Europe. Down a back alley, so it is quiet. Very convenient for travel with the train station or for cruises. We stayed pre-cruise in May 2015, and they assisted us in getting someone to haul the luggage over to access the tram to the port area. Overall, a very nice place to stay!

We were told that this was a former monastery which was converted to a hotel. Had a ground floor room overlooking the inner garden, Room was larger than others on our tour and not far from the train station and canal. We were able to walk to just about anywhere in Venice. Breakfast buffet was okay, but not as many choices as previous stops.

Have stayed at Hotel Abbazia on previous occasions and have always found the staff to be very helpful and cheerful. Abbazia is positioned close to all transport services. Vaporetto stops are 100 mtrs away, Santa Lucia station is 200 mtrs and piazzalle roma transport hub is only about 750 mtrs. All very quick and easy to access. There is no lift to the upper floors of the hotel, but a porter is available if requested. The breakfast is exceptional with many choices to suite most requirements. Bre... Read more

Good room for a family of four located close to the train station (which you will appreciate when you see the lines of luggage toting tourists waiting for expensive taxis or vaporettos to take them to their hotels along the Grand Canal). Decent breakfast. Our room only had a tub (no shower) with a spray attachment. If we had stayed longer than one day we'd have had to learn how to use it.

If you are arriving by train or by bus into Piazzale Roma, then this hotel is the perfect location. 10 minutes walk from Piazzale Roma, and 200 metres or so from the train station, its quietly situation in a little side street, yet restaurants, shops, cafes and the Grand Canal are on the doorstep. Breakfast can be eaten indoors or in the garden and has a really good selection. There is a bar/lounge area in what was the monks refrectory (complete with a pulpit!) and the staff are extremely fri... Read more

We felt so fortunate to have booked Hotel Abbazia, a great location close to the Train Station, People Mover & Piazza Roma and tucked down a quiet lane. We enjoyed all the yummy breakfast options and were able to either sit in the dining area or outside in the shaded and lush courtyard. Rooms were comfy and clean. Loved the history behind this former monastery. Best of all, the staff were exceptionally accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay fun and memorable!

Venice is expensive and the Hotel Abbazia offers the best balance between comfort and economy. Lovely little garden to relax in. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are decent. They are refurbishing the breakfast room at the moment. But you can eat breakfast comfortably in the lounge area. Very convenient location for main water bus routes. Recommended!

Located very close to all the main transport links this little wonder in Venice has a very peaceful but welcoming environment. So simple to find and really great for Water Bus and Train Station. I also think this District of Venice is really quite nice. The breakfast room is currently being renovated so there was some disruption but the staff were very attentive to ensure this didn't cause any issues. Breakfast was basic but tasted OK. Note there is NO lift and three floors so note su... Read more

An enchanting place of hospitality, loved our stay and wonderful breakfast. Though there are no elevators, porters do help with the luggage. The garden is very nice place to have a drink in the evening or morning tea! I believe we got the best and remodeled room in the hotel for our family of 4!

Do your research before arriving in Venice as you need to be aware where you stay so that you could arrange your luggage pick up / carry accordingly. This hotel is literally 3-minute walk from the station. We found out that it used to be a monastery, which gives it a nice feel of the hallway used for living room and breakfast place. Speaking of breakfast - best breakfast variety during my stay covering 4 hotels in 4 cities. Close to perfect croissant (for a change) and boiled eggs - something un... Read more

This was the 2nd time I've stayed here. First was on honeymoon and went for an upgrade room, this time went for the standard room which was a bit smaller but had everything you need. Bathroom very clean and modern. The location is great if you're travelling with suitcases as so close to the railway station, and only 5 minutes from the bus station. If on the train there are no bridges to cross. The exterior gives no clue to how lovely it is inside. Matteo on reception is fantastic, he should run ... Read more

Hotel Abbazia is a former monastery, fully renovated but pleasant remnants remain. We stayed 3 nights in early June, 2016. The property's highlights: 3 minute walk from the train station / Grande Canal / main walking / shopping street, the uber friendly and helpful staff (guests are treated like they have arrived at a cousin's house) and the lovely, well-maintained garden / sitting area with umbrellas. There is also a lovely morning continental breakfast provided. The property has a charm of i... Read more

The Abbazia is in a quiet side street just up from the main train station. So easy to get to especially with luggage. Rooms are quiet and comfortable and best of all air conditioned for those hot days. Great location near the train and vaparetto stops. Rooms were adequate. Beds were very firm. Breakfast was lacking. Staff were excellent. Air conditioning wasn't strong enough for the extreme heat. I don't think there is an elevator.. Overall it was a pleasant first time in Venice!

Our family of two adults and one teen stayed at the Hotel Abbazia for 3 nights in mid July 2016. This hotel is a clean, well-kept former monastery only a 3-4 minute walk from Venezia SL train station and easy to roll luggage to since you don't cross any bridges. It is located back down a narrow alley just far enough away from the tourist mob on the waterfront to be reasonably quiet and peaceful.
