Writing this in the middle of my city break as rest before a trip for tea. The previous recent reviews are pretty unfair in my opinion. First this is Venice. Narrow streets and not much space. The hotel is in a great location about 5mins between St Marks and the Rialto Bridge in the heart of the shops and the bustle. Yes the rooms are small by normal standards but hey guys this is Venice - the rooms are going to be smaller arnt they? Take note Americans who like Europe to be just like home. ... Read more

This is a traditional upscale European hotel. It is small by western standards, but that was what I was looking for. One half of the hotel is very western and modern, so if you want to feel like you in a western hotel- request this "upgraded" room. I did prefer the older traditional part of the hotel, as it had a charm that no modern decor can. I was traveling with a platonic friend. When we arrived we were assigned a room with a queen bed. We asked for a change and was effectively given o... Read more

We were fortunate enough to have a very large room, without a view, but getting to it was challenging. We were in Room #625 which happened to be on the second floor. To get to it you went up to the 2nd floor, followed a labyrinth of hallways and walked back down a flight to get to our room. This would not be a hotel for people who have difficulty doing stairs. Upon arriving in our room we found it to be quite spacious with separate w/c and bathroom. It had a deep soaking tub, although quite old ... Read more

This Hotel is located 3 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco and about 5 minutes to the Rialto Bridge. The location is central for shopping, sight seeing and several great restaurants. The Hotel is exceptionally clean and well maintained. There are luxurious touches such as Murano light fixtures and vintage furniture in the lobby. We heard the sound of renovations in progress on the upper floors. Last week, we were guests for a total of 3 nights in room 213. This room is small for guests accustome... Read more

Just returned from a four night stay and we had a very nice time there. The hotel is easy to find (and re-find - a bonus in the labyrinth that is Venice!) and is very close to St Marks square and many bars, restaurants, shops & the vaporetto stops. We caught the main Ailaguna boat from the airport and got off at st marks and got to the hotel easily. The journey does seem to take forever and we asked the front desk to organise a water taxi when we returned which, although more expensive, was far... Read more

Overall the hotel was fine and the four stars are based on the staff and location. In all honesty I was a little disappointed with the room, both size and bed comfort. I should have said something but that was my mistake. The hotel was quite and did have character, which is a plus. Also there are some quality restaurants close by that are very reasonable. It's proximity to the major tourist attractions is another big positive. We stopped at the resturaunt for a cocktail and was surprised how rea... Read more

This hotel is in a great location. We had comfortable rooms and good service. This is an ideal location with short walks to major sites like Doge's palace etc, it is also central in San Marco which made it an easy walk to Rialto or San Marco Water Bus stops with minimal bridges to cross (important if carrying your own luggage). Breakfast was included and there was a good variety to choose from.

It's just off a line between the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco- great location for sightseeing. Nice restaurant-light and airy. Breakfast is buffet and plentiful in choices. Beautifully decorated. Staff is friendly, responsive, and helpful. The rooms are a little small, but it's ok if you plan to be out and about all day. Someone in another comment had mentioned the lack of facial tissues, but they are in a little box mixed in with the cotton balls and shampoos on the tray in the bathroom.

The hotel was in a fabulous spot, very easy to find. It was very clean. People on reception were really nice. The restaurant was overlooking a canal so you could see the gondolas go bye! It was opened to the public so the service could be a bit lacking. it took quite a while to be served, luckily we weren't in a rush. Food was ok. The head waiter came across as quite rude at times!. But overall this hotel is very good. We would go back there.

OMG you have to go and stay in Venice on the canals like in this hotel. It is stunning. Opening the windows to the canal, going out the door of the hotel onto the gondola. The chandeliers of Venetian glass are divine as is the central feature in the dining area. One of the hotel men was just gorgeous and so so kind to me when I freaked out with an eye problem.

Then the next day the cargo boats unloading all of their products. I repeat if you like to sleep good at night do not get a room on the canal side because you will be awakened by very loud Diesel engines. Ironically they don't warn you of this when you check in. We stayed in a standard room which although was small it was comfortable. Exercise caution in shower though as the water fluctuates once set and... Read more

Hotel is clean and tidy. My room was well presented but perhaps a little tired/ dated in places and the corridors etc were similar. Team were friendly, efficient and breakfast was plentiful and of good quality. The boat could drop and collect us from the hotel and it was only a short walk from key locations. Would stay there again.

Yes, the Bonvecchiati hotels in the heart of Venice is the answer. I've been to Venice for 2 times and this is the best hotel i've ever stayed here. Very very new room with fully equipped facilities all in my room. I've requested extra portable heater from Mr. Peter (I think he is the chief in charge of this shift...check -in 26 SEP 2016). I'm looking forwards to seeing the requested heater in my room after the grand dinner in the hotel tonight. Thanks to Mr. Peter for trying to helphis client w... Read more

We had a superior twin room on the 4th floor, with an immaculate but very compact bathroom with lovely soft white towels, bath robes and slippers and toiletries. They managed to squeeze in a bidet basin, bath & shower in the smallest space. Bedroom comfortable beds but mattresses allowed a protrusion of the divan which bumped your legs. Not a great deal of shelf space but adquare for a short trip. The hotel was in a wonderful location quiet yet within very short distance from the Rialto Brid... Read more

Excellent location and great service. Walking distance to San Marco square. Breakfast was a really good buffet and the adjoining dining room had great food. We will stay here again on our next visit to Venice.

We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions as it is close to San Marco square, the Rialto Bridge and other attractions. The ability to arrive and depart directly from the hotel in a private water taxi adds in our opinion to the hotel's attraction. It is easy to walk from the hotel to the many areas of Venice. The staff we have always found to be friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good and the restaurant offers a good selection of Venetian specialities.

This was our second trip to Venice. This hotel was far superior to our last visit and both were booked as 4 stars. Rooms are small but adequate. Very clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast had a great selection and food was very good. The staff was pleasant but not overly friendly. I would stay here again.

Location is excellent for St. Mark's Square, (three minute walk), restaurants and shops and if you have a lot of luggage, the water taxi stops right outside. The rooms were spacious and clean. What we first thought was a miserable demeanour of the front of house staff was just a matter of fact attitude and this came into its own when my wife lost her mobile phone and they organized the cleaning staff to help look for it. We would recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in booking a... Read more

Enjoyed the central location of this hotel to St. Mark's Square. Hotel seemed very nice but over the top. Who needs a marble clad bathroom?! In general, everything was very nice. Breakfast was very good, they were able to arrange a taxi for the airport at 430am, and everyone was very responsive and helpful. Beds were VERY comfortable and we slept like logs. I probably wouldn't stay here again simply because it was pretty pricey and I think you could probably get a good value elsewhere. But if yo... Read more

We went as part of a Collette Tour. It is located just a short walk from St. Marks square, near many restaurants. The staff was very courteous, rooms were generous in size with great towel. One outstanding feature was that wi-fi was readily available in all locations within the hotel and easy to access. Water taxi's bring you to the hotel. Breakfast is included, with an assortment of wonderful tasty sugary things for breakfast along with the usual fare. Restaurant was very good. The bartender ne... Read more

All in all I would have to say it was a good stay. The only negative thing of note I can really say is that the value for money is not there, however that is far from unique to Hotel Bonvecchiati rather it's simply a fact of life if you want to stay in Venice proper and in particular in San Marco. On the plus side, the location can hardly be beat, in the heart of San Marco, close to the Piazza San Marco, the Rialto area, and in close proximity to numerous restaurants, shops and cafes. This is a five star hotel in my book. The room we had was huge, modern and exceptionally clean. The location could not be better. Only a one minute walk to St. Mark's Square. The breakfast was great and a variety of food to choose from. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend staying here.

I must say this hotel staff has had some bad reviews on line. But I have yet to encounter any rude staff. Upon entering our room after check-in, we were overwhelmed by a smell similar to unflushed toilets. Having never been, I wondered if it was the street below, the hotel in general, or the room itself. I called our friends in a different room. And they had no such problem. So we went down to the front desk. Marco seemed troubled by our predicament, as the notes was booked solid and there we... The price is right and the location could not have been better. It is right around the corner from St. Mark's square and short hop to the Rialto bridge. Gondola rides are right outside . the front door. front desk help provides everything you might need. Check took a bit as rooms were not ready but restaurant/bar was accomodating to the guest with a 10% discount. The staff was on the ball and attentive. I cannot give this hotel a 5 star rating because of the bathroom.Very small and you had to fo... Read more

I stayed at this hotel with a tour group in October 2016. The location was fantastic to easily be able to walk to San Marco Square and Rialto Bridge without difficulty. The rooms were clean with plenty of room and breakfast was a wide spread of choices. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star was for the customer service. I'm not sure if it was culture or the employees but not the service I would expect at their front desk for a paying customer.

Great location, but room was a cupboard that could barely fit a bed, and when we asked to move the grumpy manager at check in said what did we expect. I pointed out we expected some resemblance to the 50 photos of rooms on Expedia but to no avail. My advice - be very careful with this hotel. Nice food, excellent location but I've never felt more deceived or fleeced by a hotel, and I've been in a few.

Our room was on the second floor, with view of the canal. The staff was excellent and the food was great . Our ride from the airport by water taxi was fast and reasonable. We also took a Norwegin tour from Venice. Took extra time and stayed at the best western on the mainland and walked to the train taking it to Verona and other places. As advertised this hotel IS truly a 3 minute walk to St Mark's Square and 5 minutes to the Rialto Bridge. We stayed here 3 nights in Sept 2016 and felt like royalty. We had a corner room on the fourth floor over the canal. Our room was large enough for two easily and sort of L-shaped. Very elegant and "European". Also very expensive but it is Venice! Everything is expensive there. Nice buffet breakfast is included and there is a nice restaurant on the main level. We had dinner there 2 nights.... Read more

Venice was a stop mid-way through our Mediterranean Odyssey. Entering the Bonvecchiata from the water taxi was an experience! The hotel is within easy walking distance of San Marco Square, countless shops and eateries, museums, on and on. The staff was courteous, helpful and attentive. The hotel breakfast bar covered a range of offerings and provided a great beginning to a day of walking, gondola rides, shopping, sight seeing, etc. Great!

This hotel has had some renovations but even the renovated rooms are a long way from being 4 or 5 star accommodation . Also , as regards the renovated rooms , they are quite simple . Ours had been renovated . The bathroom was okay except the shower flooded on the 1st day . Also ,be sure to ask for a room with a view of something other than a stone wall of the building next door- which is about 10 ft. across from your window . This hotel is close to just about everything in Venice. It is a 10 minute walk to all the main attractions, St. Marks, Rialto Bridge, etc. It is a small hotel and we were on the top floor but the elevator only goes to the floor below it. We enjoyed our stay. We needed to leave early the next morning to catch our plane and we were pleasantly surprised that they had packed us a to go breakfast.

This hotel is connected to another, newer Hotel Bonvecchiati Plaza and that seems like it would have been far better from our side of the building. My room was really small, but that is to be expected in Europe. Nice hard wood floors, tiny bathroom with an old little tub (hand held shower thingy), good closets, nice views of the rooftops of other buildings. It is VERY close to Hard Rock Café, so that is a good way to remember how to get there when you are walking around the town. Ask the fr... Read more

I visited this hotel during the Biennale (arts festival) in 2015. The accommodations are classical as opposed to modern which was in keeping with the architecture of the city. The breakfast was fairly good and included in the stay which saves on spending outside the hotel - in general everything is pricey in Venice. The gondala mooring at the hotel has a small balcony area which is great for having a coffee and watching the gondolas. The hotel can make bookings/arrangements etc for you which is ... Read more

Our room overlooked one of the canals and it was great fun to watch the gondolas float by with their singing oarsmen. This hotel is centrally located at San Marco, close to the Doge Palace, Basilica and the square. We were able to close the shutters at night which cut off any noise from below. The hotel furnishes a nice continental breakfast every morning. I would rate the hotel itself as a 3 star, but hey, you don't come to Venice for the room.

This hotel was dreadful, the rooms are beyond dingy and grubby and not cheap either. I may have been better off in a chain than in this. The staff are rude and unhelpful and, just to end a ruined birthday, my laptop was kindly smashed against the radiator by the cleaners whilst out and the hotel won't accept any liability for it. This truly is not the place to stay, please read my other reviews to see that I very rarely (if at all) leave reviews this bad.

When we checked in we were told we would be in the Residenza part of the hotel. We were slightly concerned but should not have been at all. The Residenza is situated just across the bridge by the restaurant and some 50 metres away. There are 2 rooms per floor with views over a canal with gondolas. It was so quiet in the building that we never heard any other guests there. The room was comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty from which to choose but this was t...
