I‚??ve stayed in many hotels over the years, all over the world. This is the second worse hotel I‚??ve ever stayed in, just barely behind a small hotel in southern France. My opinion is based on multiple stays here, and not just one experience. So here we go: Their air conditioning system is not able to cool the rooms properly when it‚??s hot outside. When I complained, they would claim to re-set the system, and would then argue about whether it was working or not. If you persisted, they wo... Read more

This hotel is truly charming with a roof top dining area with an incredible view. Breakfast was a delight not just for the food but for the view also. Service at the restaurant was very good. Our room was clean. The staff helpful. The hotel is in a good location, since all of Ortigia is within walking distance of the hotel. Buses into Siracusa are nearby.

Very nice Hotel. Very well located inside Ortigia. The breakfast terrace is outstanding with a beautiful view of the marinas (despite there was work going on them). The breakfast is indeed very good! The spa can be improved.

My first visit here. Very nice room with view of the marina. Nice bathroom with a bathtub to my wife's delight. Excellent location, good decor, friendly service and competent. Five star hotel, so not cheap, but well worth it. Excellent restaurant on the Terrace, highly recommended.

The Grand Hotel Ortigia is small but truly grand. It's located on the lido, overlooking the harbor, an easy walk to all the sights on Ortigia. There is free parking. We booked the Aretusa Suite which had two bathrooms (one with tub, the other with a large stall shower), a lofted sleeping area, a large sitting room, and a terrace with a harbor view. Staff was helpful and efficient. The breakfast, served at the rooftop restaurant, was excellent, with fresh baked goods, fruit, juices, coffee m... Read more

After our first stay in this beautiful hotel in 2014, we were lucky enough to stay again the following year. Wonderful location on magical Ortygia, a truly captivating part of Sicily. The hotel is a grand old building overlooking the marina. Breakfast is the highlight served on the roof terrace with wonderful views of the island. A huge array of delicious pastries and my daughters favourite, mandola granita! Although there is no swimming pool, a private beach is accessible by a short boat trip f... Read more

Stayed here for my 60th (and my wife's 50th), so Sicily was our special treat. This hotel is fabulous. The location, and the view of the marina at breakfast is breath-taking. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and really made our stay extremely pleasant. The room was split-level, with the bedroom & bathroom upstairs. I spent a good few hours sat in the window alcove, reading my book, and gazing out at the yachts. I don't know what "Tex Ritter" was on about, but the breakfasts are sensation... Read more

We enjoyed the junior suite with a view of the marina and a loft bed on the second floor. As many have mentioned breakfast on the rooftop which has outside and inside tables is a big plus. The food offerings are diverse to appeal to a wide range of guests, cold meats and cheese, breads and sweet rolls, cereal, juice and more. It's a great place to try a taste of the local pastries, a few beautiful cakes were offered each morning, plum, lemon, and more. The hotel is clean, great bed and bath lin... Read more

Lovely hotel, very clean well presented, reception friendly, helpful, good English, room we had 202, overlooking marina kept very clean, can be noisy at night, didn't bother us though, breakfast on roof terrace plenty of choice, we'll run great staff, friendly, good English, only minor problem for us was, the bar, a lovely room but no one to serve you, we went 5 times, and asked, no one came, you could get a drink up in restuarant but always busy with diners, small issue, boat to private beach ... Place and breakfast are amazing, but all the rest need to be changed / improved. Rooms are noisy, not from the outside, but from the inside: people opening noisy doors, cleaning rooms and manager speaking loud in corridors as of 6 am in the morning. If you need to sleep, go elsewhere. Wifi not working anywhere. Lots of employees / managers do not say hello when the meet you. People entering the room without knocking. Rude check out, the lady stayed on the phone all the time she prepared my invoi... Read more

The location of the hotel is very good, but rooms are noisy, and house keepers talk loudly and bang the doors ... I couldn't sleep properly and I asked to change my room, hoping that another room/floor will resolve a problem... Its definitely not a 5 stars hotel, especially if you are coming from Middle East... The thing I really liked is a beauty SPA salon with a polite and professional beautician Lucy. I had a facial and relaxing massage and I got couple of organic Italian beauty products fr... Read more

This is a great place to stay if you want to be in Ortigia - the old part of town. It is quite easy to reach by car and has its own parking - which would otherwise be difficult to find or inconveniently located and expensive in this district. We got a spacious, elegant, luxurious duplex suite with a whirlpool bath. Our window looked out over the harbour. The hotel is very close to the Duomo and the Fonte Aretusa and cafes, bars and restaurants abound. The only criticism I would make is that... Read more

Placed in a good location this late 19th century hotel retains an old fashioned charm. Our room was large and sunny, the bathroom was adequate and the service was good. We had pleasant stay.I can recommend the hotel who prefer an old-fashioned to a modern look.

My wife and I stayed here in early June, 2016. Our room on the first floor was smallish but with its high ceilings and beautiful furniture and decor, it never felt small. Even though our windows faced the street behind the hotel, we heard no traffic or passerby. Among the standout comforts were the sheets on the bed (luxurious) and the bed itself, which was just firm enough for our aging backs. Everyone on the staff whom we dealt with was courteous; all of the desk personnel spoke good Engli... Read more

We had a great stay in this recently renovated classic hotel on Ortigia, the island that forms the center of historical Syracuse. It is harbor front and located within walking distance of the central piazza with its fascinating cathedral (created from a Greek temple that is still visible in many places in the building), the famous Arethusa spring, great restaurants, and shopping - it's a great hotel from which to wander through old town Syracuse. The breakfast room and bar are on the rooftop wit... Read more

Great hotel right at the shore front. You are in the very middle of the city and at the same time just 15 minutes boat ride away from a very nice small beach. The hotel almost has everything a 5 star hotel usually has and it probably doesn't get any better in Syracuse. A bit more international breakfast would be nice and eg I expected an option for pancakes/omelette at the breakfast. But what's there is really tasty including the fresh pressed juices and the view over the harbor is magnificent.... Read more

We stayed 4 nights in Grand Hotel Ortigia. Very nicely decorated room. Beautiful bathroom. Two times per day cleaning, making the bed and closing the curtains. Ah, and let me not forget those delicious cookies that we find every evening next to our bed. Breakfast could not be better. Sitting outside with espresso, cakes and local specialities was a perfect start of the day. Hotel is perfectly located at the harbour from which we took the boat each morning to the private beach. With the exception of a couple of charming people the Reception Desk, staff appear to be disinterested in the wellbeing of their guests. They are "order takers" only. The restaurant staff abilities are uneven but they do try hard. The breakfast offered a wonderful array of choices. Housekeeping staff were kind, efficient and hardworking. The bones and location of this hotel are so great that it is a shame that the owners neglect the interiors. They need a professional designer. The look is dat... Read more

This is a real old fashioned hotel with lovely fixtures and furnishings in a perfect location right on the waterfront. The rooms are small which is quite often the case with these types of hotels. unfortunately when we arrived we found a cot in our room and not a third bed. I reported this to reception straight away and was told that they weren't going to sort it straight away but when we were out. I questioned the fact that a third bed could even fit in the room we had but was told its was fine... Read more

Nice hotel, nearby the local harbour! Rooms and restaurant with a beautiful view! A balcony would have been spectaculaire! Nice and friendly staff! A little difficult to get around with a stroller because of the stairs from the street to the reception. Private beach with boatservice, but be prepared to book in the reception and pay 10 euros for the trip- it is not included!

This is a luxury hotel in an excellent location near the harbour. I stayed for two nights which I really enjoyed as the room was kept beautifully clean by the housekeeping staff. All the staff were very friendly, but the restaurant staff I found particularly friendly and eager to please and the food was delightful. I will recommend this hotel to my colleagues, and I would stay here again.

Local to everything, parking if you need it just over the road from hotel, there is a private beach which you have to take a boat trip to reach it cost 10 euros that is return, but you get boat trip and lounge chair and towels for the price. Breakfast is very good mixture of every kind of food. Rooms cleaned daily very clean.... I'm sitting in a lovely room in shock. I've been checked into the hotel for only 2 hours and have been yelled at by reception for bringing a friend to the room for a drink. She threatened to call the police if my friend did not leave. I was then told my friend had to register with reception with a passport (OK...) and then could only stay a few minutes or police will be called. . . I just spent four nights at this hotel and i highly recommend it. It is located in the best area of Ortigia, facing the harbor and right next to the pedestrian street where you can lounge around and amble about at all hours of the day and evening. The hotel is an old palazzo, very beautiful and I will never forget the amazing terrace overlooking the Ionian sea as you are taking your breakfast. We wanted so much to fall in love with the Grand Hotel Ortigia but it is hot in Siracusa and impossible to sleep without working air conditioning. The front desk will put on a good act, pretending they are shocked, and will insist that they can program your A/C unit remotely, (which is actually very creepy)! In the end however nothing worked. We even switched rooms and the result was the same, a night of 25 degrees centigrade. The front desk is not empathetic and treats its clientele poorly. ... Read more

Stayed here for 5 nights in August 2016 as a single traveller. Stepping in to the hotel it was well air conditioned and very comfortable, and I was dealt with immediately with no fussing about. In the lobby there are very comfy seats where you can rest and gather yourself if you have had a bit of a tiring journey and need a sit down. There is also a computer terminal in the lobby with free internet that you can use, and free wifi is available throughout the hotel with a pretty good signal. My ... Read more

The best thing about this hotel is its location in Ortigia near all the historical sites. The outside of the hotel is historical and the lobby is well maintained. However, the rooms are small. We heard several people complaining about it. We had a junior suite which is basically two small rooms on different floors of the hotel which were connected with a large winding staircase. It had no electrical outlets near the bed or in the bathroom so using electronics meant going downstairs. The ... Read more

We ignored a previous review which stated that the A/C did not work - these things happen right? We assumed it was a one off - IT IS NOT! We booked two rooms, a Junior Suite and a Single Room which also had a mezzanine sleeping area. The Junior Suites are not as large as shown on the site. The photos show a comfortable sofa in the living area, the 'sofa' is in fact a thin two seater contraption and not at all inviting for relaxed seating. There is one small wardrobe in the living area - the... Read more

This was an exceptional experience for the most part. The location is ideal because everything is readily accessible from this point - the town, seashore, etc. Because we were upgraded to the nicest suite of Aretusa, we each enjoyed our private baths. Meals were extraordinary as well. Would have liked a pool or soaking situation however.
