We stayed for 3 nights for an anniversary celebration and had a wonderful time. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The location and views are spectacular. The beach and cove are just fab. Safe swimming in a sheltered area. The rocky beach is equally nice but not as sheltered. Now for the areas that are not quite so positive. We have stayed in a few '5 Star Luxury' Resorts' and would observe the following areas which, in our opinion, do not quite make the grade. - room si... Read more

This is an amazing 5-stars sea-resort located right in front of the island of Ortigia, the oldest and the most elegant area of Syracuse. It is on a promontory in the midst of the crystal-clear waters of the Plemmirio Nature Reserve. The hotel offers 2 sea-view spas and 2 stunning private sandy beaches. In few minutes you can reach Syracusa, the archaeological park and Ortigia, one of the best city centers in Italy.

The Minareto is more a resort than simple hotel. Rooms are laid out as individual small bungalows on a cliff top peninsula about 4 k from the town, although only a short distance across the bay by boat. Because of the location there is little nearby so without transport you would be tied to the hotel. On site you get a great environment, access to sea bathing as well as a pool, several bars, poolside café and a very splendid dining room. Breakfast is standard continental with local pastries... The location is undoubtedly beautiful and the staff is friendly and willing to make your stay as pleasant as possible but having been to similarly beautiful And expensive self-contained resorts - such as the Crane in Barbados - I can say that Minareto has a number of improvements to make: 1. Location: as I said, beautiful but isolated - you need a car to go anywhere and the closest decent restaurant is at least half hour away. We were afforded a truly wonderful welcome on our arrival. The bungalow style room was spotless and cleaned every day and the bed turned down in the evening. The staff are all friendly and helpful and will do anything to help. The hotel is in a beautiful location and the views are simply stunning. The restaurant and bar are a bit pricey but everybody knows ways to avoid paying these prices by using local amenities. I would say a car hire is a must to get the best of the local area.

I went here with a group of my friends. The rooms are a little dated but it is in character with the traditional charm not tatty at all - and I'm very fussy about my room when abroad. Although this place was a little quiet for us it was absolute bliss. A boat journey away from the old town - don't take the bus what a long journey that would be , a speed boat was quick and a really nice journey. Food was delicious at every meal so very impressed. Backroads normally chooses historic hotels and the Minareto does not fit that bill. On the other hand it has a spectacular location, spacious rooms, friendly service and a private beach on the Mediterranean! They provided wonderful appetizers and wine for our farewell toast on their terrace overlooking Ortigia, the ancient island fortress of Syracuse. The room was quiet with a large private terrace. Their breakfast buffet was the best we had on this trip to Italy!

Really amazing location with 2 beaches, both astonishing. The jacuzzi with view on syracuza alone justifies to go there! The rooms are good but basic. The service and the staff is not 5 stars at all. Watch out quite far from syracuza. Also be careful with the room you have as some of them are really not well located

Located in a beautiful setting, with two great beaches and a nice swimming pool, and within driving distance to Oritigia/Siracusa, this is a great hotel. We especially loved the restaurant location, with a stunning terrace overlooking the bay and Ortigia. The classic double room we booked was comfortable but small. The bathroom was a good size. Housekeeping was excellent. The staff is friendly. The property is quiet and doesn't feel busy even thought it's very large. Where they fall short ... Read more

Fresh fruit served at the beach during the morning. The view we enjoyed from the hotel is simply priceless.

The hotel is located on a narrow peninsula just across the bay from Ortigia. On one side of the peninsula there is a sandy beach and shallow bay which is excellent for swimming. This beach gets sun in the morning and early afternoon. A rather splendid resort hotel, set on a peninsula across the bay from the Old Town. It has great views and a lovely beach in a rocky cove. However, it isn't a great base for exploring the city and archaeological areas, unless you have your own transport. They are 15 minutes away by car, and the hotel runs just 2 trips by 8 seater minibus to the old town only. When you arrive at Hotel Minareto, the first thing you see is a big plaque advertising Minareto as a Grand Hotel 5 Stars Deluxe. What would qualify this hotel as a 5 stars hotel is the amazing scenery with access to two beaches (see more below); what disqualifies it are the poor services which are not the fault of the individual staff, but rather of poor general management. The only 5 star element about this hotel is its location - two beaches, one rocky, the other one wonderful sandy lagoon, stunning, mind blowing views of Ortigia and on a crisp clear day of Mount Etna - this is something undoubtedly unique and treasured. The rest is shambles - staff in untrained, restaurant food is below average (which is a shame considering the amazing culinary culture in Syracuse), and the rooms are falling apart. Our shower was sprouting either hot or cold water, and they mana... Read more

We arrived late but the reception already knew we were coming. We were taken to our room with a golf cart. Rooms quite small but clean and with a huge comfy bed. Every room has their own terrace. Breakfast buffet is big with variety of breads, fruit, salads, juices and hot food. Attentive staff. The resort has a pool area with a snack bar, beach with staff- possible to get refreshments to your lounger. The cliff side area has no staff but has probably the best view, a bit calmer than the beac... Read more

I suspect that our experience would have been different had we stayed in the middle of summer, as the position of this hotel means it is possible to sightsee and have a beach holiday at the same time. But out of season it is difficult to ignore the many shortcomings of this hotel. The layout of the hotel is awkward, with the rooms the other side of the road to the reception bar and restaurant. The rooms are rather small and dark, and the fixtures and bathrooms in need of updating. There was a... Read more

We stayed for 4 nights at the end of the season. The weather was stormy and overcast most of the time so we could not fully enjoy many of the resort's facilities - however even so it was a good place to stay and we had a very pleasant time here. There is a lovely sandy beach down a tunnel from near the main entrance, nice, clean yellow sand. There is a pier on the other rocky beach but due to choppy seas the ferry boat could not land to take us to Ortega. There is a courtesy bus a few times a da... Read more

We visited for 10 days at the end of October/start of Nov. The hotel has a beautiful pool which is incredibly clean and an excellent size. It isn't heated which was a down side for us due to visiting when it was slightly cold some days. However, on the warmer days was lovely to swim in and the sun loungers are very comfortable. The bar at the pool serves lovely salads and cocktails. The room was sea view albeit slightly small but with balcony and seating. Unfortunately due to the storm the ro... Read more

Traveller beware.I don't think my travel agency,Original UK,did its homework before placing us here for 4 nights. When we arrived we were surprised to find that it is located relatively far from town-an estimated 25 euro one way fare,in what appears to be an industrial park.It was raining so we asked about the hotel's advertised shuttle to town and were informed that not only was the shuttle booked for that day but that it was fully booked for the entire 4 days of our scheduled stay. The desk cler...
