Friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff - add this to spacious, well-kept rooms, lovely views and tasty breakfast in the sister hotel over the street and you have the perfect place to stay on the beautiful island of Ortigia!

We only had one night here, wish it could have been more. It is a former Ursuline convent, still run by the sisters with lay help. The rooms were smallish but very comfortable - excellent showers. Everything was spotless and well designed. The hotel faced the sea across a road and parking was available at the door (or we got lucky). A great breakfast and alas we had to leave. Our nicest place to stay in Sicily, in Ortigia which is a charming 'island' addition to the main town. Couldn't fau... Read more

The hotel is absolutely well located, closed to the center and in front of the sea. The rooms and the bathrooms are clean and in a good size, in the old religious building. The staff is very helpful, and the wifi is ok. The breakfast is served in a brother hotel, in the other side of street. The atmosphere there is very interesting, this "second ' hotel is side by side a church and there is a connection between them.

The Albergo Domus Mariae was a great place to stay in Ortigia. The rooms were large and comfortable and at the level of a five star hotel. Our room had a private balcony. Breakfast was simple but of excellent quality and included home made yoghourt which was delicious. The staff were attentive, helpful and very professional and the front desk was staffed 24 hours a day. The location was close to all major attractions. Recommendations provided by the hotel for good places to eat were right o... Read more

I was here for two nights in May. It's run by a convent with amazing help staff and amazing views. The breakfasts were sumptuous, held in a very nice room. I totally loved the experience. The bathrooms are a bit larger than most hotels, they are clean and well kept. Drains however tend to be a bit slow but we are told that is true throughout the rest of the island. If you have a car, parking is available down the street, about a 5 minute walk. They will let you park in front of the hote... Read more

This charming hotel is in a great location overlooking the sea and within easy walking distance of everything in historic Ortygia. Our room was spotlessly clean and came with a small balcony that overlooked the street and ancient church below. There is an amazing rooftop terrace, open to guests, where one can sunbathe or eat a meal overlooking the absolutely beautiful blue Mediterranean. The helpful staff assisted us as we found a nearby parking spot for our car and gave us a paper to put on the... Read more

Sadly we could only stay one night, but would love to have stayed longer. The hotel is in a wonderful building, breakfast was across the road in their other delightful building. Room was spotless, with very comfortable beds and a little balcony that overlooked the sea, utterly charming. Breakfast was typically buffet style but you can add items from a menu - such as scrambled eggs - for an additional 3 euros. Not necessay in our case as we feasted very adequately on the buffet. All staff we en... Read more

Receptionists speak perfect English and were able to answer all our questions. Very courteous, friendly, and especially patient. Our room 201 was large with a small balcony overlooking the Ionian Sea. No bath but a shower. There is a blow-dryer, and a mini-bar but no iron. King size bed and a couch that would fold out as another bed. The location is in a fairly quite area away from the tourist hordes but in easy walking distance to main attractions, and restaurants. Domus Mariae is the sis... Read more

My wife and I stayed at the Domus Mariae hotel on Ortygia during our recent visit to Siricusa, Sicily. We had a fabulous view of the sea from the balcony in our comfortable and well kept room. The hotel and the its larger companion across the street, the Domus Mariae Bennesere, are run by the Ursuline nuns, which is reflected in the selection of art on the walls and the charming chapel in the Bennessere. The latter also has a spa and the restaurant where a very nice buffet breakfast is offere... Read more

Our room had a stunning view over the Ionian Sea. It was so lovely to wake up to. The room also had air conditioning which made things very comfortable in the hot weather at the end of June. Nicely sprung beds too and plenty of space. But above all was the friendly welcome and ongoing support of Cinzia and her team. She arranged a trip to Etna for us for our second day, and did all the phoning around. So we had a taxi to the bus station, a pick-up at Catania, and an amazing trip to Etna. All we ... Read more

We booked a double room at Domus Mariae at very short notice after an earlier hotel reservation unexpectedly fell through. Domus Mariae is an annex to Domus Mariae Benessere situated across the road facing a small square. Breakfast is taken in the larger hotel. Breakfast was typically basic but good. Paying extra will get you a cooked breakfast tho we didn't try this. Given the late booking we were pleased with our room which was large and comfortable with a small balcony. The room had twin beds... Read more

We stayed here for 2 nights. Nice accommodation but the room colour (lime green) reminded me a bit too much of the catholic schools I attended. The breakfast left me desiring more but I am used to a dairy and meat based diet which is somewhat different to the Mediterranean. All-in-all a very friendly and comfortable accommodation.

I stayed here on my own a few years ago and couldn't wait to get back to share this wonderful place with my husband- that probably says it all! Thanks to the lovely Cinzia for remembering me and welcoming me back so warmly- but in fact all the staff are terrific and could not be more helpful or charming. We had a beautiful sea view room- comfortable, quiet and spotless. The breakfast, served across the street in their sister establishment, was exceptionally generous in its choices and the coffee... Domus Mariae used to be a convent which has been elegantly yet quaintly restored. The rooms are the smallest I have ever come across and some of them have no windows; a remainder of its Spartan past? Customer service is somewhat amusing at times by the modest knowledge of the English language. The views from the suits are sensational but their prices are exorbitant. The final comment: go elsewhere.

We stayed 7 nights. Good large rooms, with wifi available. The service is great no matter who you talk to and the location is near to the sea and the downtown where all the restaurants etc are located. A funny thing about the hotel is that even though they say they have a bar. They even have signs for it, the bar is never open :-) If this has something to do with the fact that nonns are staying at the hotel and there is a chapel as well connected to the facility I don't know :-) It's a nice h... Having booked the Domus Mariae via booking.com which had the top rated mark within Syracuse we were confident before the arrival, we had booked a suite overlooking the ocean, we were not disappointed, opened the old style window shutters and WOW, this traditional style hotel/ b&b, was exactly what we wanted, sharing a glass of wine on the balcony overlooking the ocean, one floor up and we were able to relax on the roof terrace where there were views over old roof tops giving the feeling of where... We stayed three nights. Room: although our room overlooked the street and rooftops (as opposed to a more expensive sea view) it was a good size, light and airy. Modern, light but very small bathroom. Great to have 2 windows that fully opened. Location. Perfect for walking to everywhere. Parking. This was important for us as we had a rental vehicle Our GPS took us down some rather hair raisingly narrow alleys but eventually got us to right outside. I went in to check in and as soon as the am... Read more

Fantastic location, wonderful & super friendly staff. Rooms facing the sea has amazing views, the balconies hang over the sea. The breakfast was served at sister property across the street. Short walking distance from restaurants, main square etc Good wi-fi service No elevator, thus difficult if there is mobility restrictions but this is normal for that kind of building, it is just to inform, not a negative point (staff helps out with lugguage) Great value, parking is a bit tricky (as in all ... I had a great stay at the Domus Mariae. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is located a couple blocks removed from the streets with restaurants, bars, tourist sites which means it is quiet at night but still is a 2-10 minute walk from most of ortigia- a great location. I had a room with a small balcony facing the street and it was quite pleasant. I reserved a room with no breakfast, but chose to add it on for 5 euros on the last day. Breakfast was nothing notable but sufficient. Har... Read more

My hubby and I stayed 3 night booking via booking.com. As arrived we found out we got a room with two single beds with no possibility to join the beds. In order to get a master bedroom we got trasferred to a room facing the sea for a surcharge. Overall, the staff was always very nice to us. To reach the new room we had to climb a set of steady small staircases, no elevator. The room was good and well furnished; however there was a poor set of soaps and bath products, so we had to go to the super... Read more

We were welcomed by Cinzia who took very good care of us. Nothing too much trouble. The room overlooked the sea and with our windows open at night it felt like the sea was all around us. Very lucky the weather this October has been fabulous. I would lie to return as there are so many things yet to see and Domus Mariae is very convenient, if a little extravagant for being on the island. Thank you Cinzia and all your colleagues for looking after us so well.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a Rick Steves tour in October 2016. It was wonderful--spotless room with a comfortable bed and a great shower. The location is terrific and within walking distance of all the sights in Ortygia. There is a quick but pricey laundry service provided by the hotel so this is a good laundry stop as well. The spa was empty and the foot massage was so/so. I'd definitely recommend this hotel but probably skip the spa next time. Enjoy.///

Comfy room, but didnt exactly have much of a view. One total peeve was they advertise as having WIFI but its sporadic and poor at the best of times. If you are someone who uses the net to organise your trips and plan your days, then prepare to be frustrated trying to log on to a shoddy network that comes and goes. Mentioned to the staff about the WIFI and they just insisted it worked. Watched another guest do the same straight after. They repeated their insistence and left him thinking it was... Read more

This is a very nice hotel on Ortigia a few minutes walk from the main tourist areas. We had a large spacious room with a balcony and sea view. The room was clean and the beds comfortable.
