When I decided to take my wife, who had never been abroad, somewhere memorable, I immediately thought of Sorrento. My wife then suggested that we invite my elderly parents and an elderly uncle who had fond memories of Sorrento prior to his wife passing away. I know Italy well and know that a family run hotel is a must. With reduced mobility I needed somewhere without steps or hills to climb (which is rare on this coast). I also wanted a view of the Bay of Naples and the mighty Vesuvius. The Hot... Read more

We stayed one week here with another couple. It is family owned and run and the staff are very pleasant. We had a room at the back with a large comfortable double bed plus bunks in a separate area (which we didn't need). There was plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, fridge and safe. Our balcony area was rather small as we were on an inside corner. Most were larger. Shower was not fancy but worked fine. Hair dryer was basic. Cleaning was efficient. There was free WiFi although we had to log bac... Read more

We stayed at the Girasole in May for a week as a family (with a 11 month old). The hotel had a friendly family feel to it and the staff were very welcoming. Rita was very knowledgeable and helpful in answering our questions about the local area. The rooms at the rear of the hotel have beautiful views and the hotel grounds are very pleasant to wander around. The only downside was the busy road immediately outside the hotel but we are still glad that we chose to stay here and had a very pleasant s... Read more

Holiday in Sorrento My friend and I went on holiday with Newmarket Travel for the second time just last week 17th-24th May. The holiday was basically well organised and enjoyable. We asked for a room overlooking the garden, away from the road and I even sent an email to the hotel nearer the time with this request again. The room we were allocated in the Girasole hotel however, was a basic room overlooking the VERY busy road. We arrived late. After being in the room only 1 night we decided we... Read more

Not really happy about writing this review.I will start positively, from the receptionist to 90% of the staff ,so helpful and friendly, a very clean hotel with lovely garden and pool area. Now the negatives, ‚?¨1.50 for a small water,‚?¨3.00 for a sun bed,‚?¨3.00 for a small beer why ? Profiteering !!!!!!! . My BIGGEST disappointment BREAKFAST & WAITERS TONY & the never happy FRANCESCO........ Breakfast nice but SO basic (nothing hot) Tables ......you are put on a table one day go back to it the... If you are looking for a nice family run hotel with no frills just good friendly service, look no further than this one. The accommodation was very clean and well maintained and the food was excellent. The hotel has no direct access to a beach which is some distance away and very small. The swimming pool is just a short walk away from the hotel and has a small café attached for light refreshments and snacks. The hotel is located a short distance from the centre of Sorrento, but be aware the foo... Read more

After reading all of the previous reviews I was dreading arriving here and being allocated a room on the road. So I sent the hotel an email weeks in advance asking for a nice quiet room. Therefore, you can imagine my disappointment when upon arrival we were shown to a room on the ground floor right next to the road. I immediately asked for another room and told them about my email. To be fair they changed our room immediately and apologised for forgetting about my request. Not the best of starts... Read more

We stayed last week and had a fantastic time. We've stayed here before - on honeymoon in 1991 and again in '96. We bought our young daughters who loved the pool and the great breakfasts. The staff are the same family who we met in '91 and are so friendly and helpful. I agree the road is busy - lots of cars and scooters but surely that's part of Italy's charm. I agree it's best to get a rear bedroom with the superb view of Vesuivius and the beautiful gardens, but I honestly don't recognise the h... Read more

We travelled to Sorrento with Newmarket Travel. On arrival at the hotel we were taken to a downstairs room in the annex, a short downhill walk. Lovely room with a large outdoor space. Shower was a little small and as others have commented, the curtain stuck to you. The soaps and shower gel were replaced each day and the towels if you wanted. Fridge in the room and safe were free. Wifi was excellent with fast speed. The gardens of the hotel are full of flowers and citrus trees and a beautiful set... Read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Girasole. We went to this hotel 15 years ago and decided to return this year and was so pleased we did. The family and staff were very welcoming and helpful. We had the same room overlooking the lemon and orange trees and the bay of naples and vesuvius. The pool was very peaceful and very clean and you can buy lunch and drinks at the pool bar. Very relaxing after a day in the town or sightseeing. Only downside is it is on the main road so the... Read more

We had the most wonderful stay at Hotel Girasole. Our room (36) was extremely comfortable with the most amazing views from the balcony. The food was delicious and so much of it and the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The grounds and swimming pool were beautiful and many happy hours were spent there. I cannot wait to return and to experience all the delights of Italy.

The people are welcoming, friendly and very helpful. The Hotel is attractive, clean and inviting rooms. If it was not for the location, I would have given 4 stars. We paid for an upgrade so that our balcony overlooked the beautiful gardens with lemon and oranges however the people with a front room very unhappy as right on the extremely busy road, which leads to Naples/Sorento, main road in fact. To walk into Sorento, which is only 10 minutes or so is treacherous as no pavement and cars flitting... Read more

Was in Rome for our honeymoon, decided to travel Capri/Amalfi/Naples etc, decided to use Sorrento as a base to do all of this out of. Booked the room online the previous day and headed down, was very happy. Breakfasts and Dinners provided were great - They had their own wine which was delicious and great value, although we only tried the white and never tried the rest as we were so happy with it. They also booked a tour of the Amalfi for us and booked several Taxi's that took less than 3 mins ea... Read more

Pleasant hotel, with friendly staff and lovely owners, all always ready with a lovely smile. We had a fairly small basic room which was to the side of the hotel, so did experience a lot of traffic noise if on balcony. The gardens were very pleasant so we preferred to have a quiet drink there of an evening rather than take a walk down the very busy road into Sorrento. The pool area was like a little oasis with lots of flowers and fruit trees and very quiet and peaceful, although it was down a li... Read more

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is lovely, the rooms are beautiful, and the pool was sparkling. It is located on a busy road so ask for a room near the back. Very friendly staff. The breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed sitting in the lemon grove. My kids loved the pool, and the pool snacks were quite good for a quick lunch,

Lovely family run hotel with a beautiful garden lots of very old grafted fruit trees & pool, excellent views and clean, tidy rooms. The breakfast is fantastic with lots of options. Close to the main streets & train station. However; the wifi is shocking, dinner is a set menu with choice if 2 or so options served between 7-8pm (last sitting is 7.45) and there's a lovely outdoor garden area which can only be used during breakfast time but you are unable to bring food into the hotel to eat. Having never been to Sorrento we went by the travel agents recommendation. The hotel was lovely, the owners so friendly and staff couldn't do enough for you to make our stay a good one. We were there for 10 days and went half board for the days when being out on trips we could just come back and relax without walking off to town. The breakfast offered was plenty all cold but sets you up for the day. At the pool they offer lunches. Evening meals were nice but not really vegetarian friendly thoug... Read more

Having been to Sorrento 4 years ago and stayed in a 5star hotel, we where a little worried about hotel Girasole. Our children and grandchild couldn't afford to stay in a more expensive hotel and we wanted to all be together, as we were all attending a family wedding. We didn't have to worry at all. The hotel obviously needs updating but the service they give is very good. The ladies that clean the bedrooms are wonderful. They come in during the morning and are very thorough. Staff very friendly. Hotel very clean and fresh. Pool was lovely, as was the pool-side lunch and snack bar. We stayed for one week, and enjoyed every day very much. The food served for breakfast and for the evening meal (which was extra) was very nice, albeit slightly limited in choice for the later. The rooms were spacious and clean (the rooms were cleaned meticulously every day), and had air-conditioning (essential for the Italian summer if you are from a cooler climate) The only problem we h... Had read the reviews before we went so we were aware we were on a busy road, however as you walk into Sorrento you realise that a lot of the other hotels are too. We had only booked two standard rooms but we were kindly upgraded for one room to a garden view room. This room was larger and the bathroom more spacious than the other room with the added bonus of no traffic noise. We stayed for a week and after a while I didn't notice the noise as much also we were so tired from all of our day trips.... Read more

The hotel is a 20 minute walk from Sorrento as long as you don't mind walking along a very busy road. This is the only negative point about the hotel. The staff very always helpful and friendly. The hotel was clean and we had rooms at the back of the hotel so were not disturbed by the busy road. The pool was a good size and the hotel is ideally situated to go in to Sorrento or as a base to visit other tourist attractions. I would return to the hotel.

When booking accommodation we always read reviews. Looking at this place the only complaint we saw was regarding the shower curtains and thought it can't be too bad. IT WAS THAT BAD. Within 5 minutes of getting in the shower the entire bathroom was flooded. The building is so old that every time a room on our side of the building flushed the toilet or turned on the water we were woken up. I expect this from old buildings but not for a hotel room with the attached price tag that this offers. The ... Read more
