After reading all other TripAdvisor reviews about Hotel Continental in Sorrento, Italy, my stay here was consistent with the positive reviews. Location was great, service was impeccable, and our room had the beautiful view to boot. We stayed in one of the junior suites with a large balcony overlooking the square below and the sea to our left. From the moment one walks into the hotel, its decor, cleanliness, and staff professionalism is what greets you. Will come back again!

We spent a week at the Hotel Continental this month and it was absolutely superb. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite, which was superbly equipped with a very comfortable king size bed, two armchairs, plenty of storage space , his and hers sinks in the well-stocked bathroom and, importantly, two windows leading to a balcony with table and chairs. These provided breath-taking views over the Bay of Naples, with the vista of Mount Vesuvius a constant delight. The hotel breakfast is outstanding, wit... Read more

We stayed here & had excellent service, especially at breakfast, which offered more items than we could count, including Prosseco & soup! It's in an excellent location, near everything, next to a pretty square, with access to the beach area. Great pool area & cafe & 5th floor bar area to watch the sunset!

We were booked in this hotel through our wonderful travel agent Fantastica Italia and it was perfect for us. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and our bags were taken to our room. We had a room with a balcony and a beautiful ocean view. The balcony's were not that private, but we found no issue with privacy sitting in the morning or evening. We slept with the door open and had some wonderful cool breezes, without too much noise. We had a room in the back facing the bay which I think is one ... Read more

The location of this hotel is ideal, in the middle of the two marinas and within easy waking distance to restaurants, shops etc. There are superb views of Mount Vesuvius across the bay which can be seen from either the roof top bar and restaurant or from just outside the hotel - this seemed to be a nightly viewing point for many people taking photos of the gorgeous sunsets. Beautiful hotel, clean, central and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Antonio in the breakfast room is a star. As is the breakfast spread. The rooms aren't massive, typical for Italy, but all you need if you're out and about. Only slight downside is the street noise but if you can blag a sea view this shouldn't be a problem.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this lovely hotel. We had room 210, which had a lovely view of the sea and Vesuvius. All the staff here are very polite, helpful and charming. All areas are kept clean and the rooms are very good. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars, is that the walls are a bit thin and some noise does travel. Just returned from a week at this lovely hotel. We travelled in a party of nine, four staying here and five at a more expensive hotel 200 yards away. All agreed that the Grand Hotel Continental was far superior and we spent most of our poolside time here. We ate in the superb rooftop restaurant and were treated to a free welcoming Prosecco and hors douves and had a really excellent meal. Service was great and very friendly and we found this was the case throughout the hotel with a special thank ... Read more

This hotel has nice breakfast, a nice pool and a nice restaurant with a superb view. The staff were very helpful too. I would recommend it. It is also as central as you could hope for and convenient to restaurants, marina grande and boats to capri / amalfi.

This is a really nice hotel. Its quite "genteel" in its appearance, not just the building and decor but, for example, the white-coated waiters at breakfast. Having booked this "blind" off Venere, I could not have been happier.

The room was very clean but incredibly small. There was only half of a shower curtain which always led to a large amount of water getting on the floor; this led to quite a hazardous situation. The service at the property was very helpful and friendly. We only ate breakfast at the hotel which was offered free of charge. The food was what one might expect from a school cafeteria. Overall, the hotel seemed dated which is a characteristic of many others in this town, but it was a centrally lo... Read more

We had a 5 day stay here following a trip in Rome. Having been to Sorrento before the hotel had the perfect location for us just off the main square with a lovely view of the sunset and sea and right by marina grande. The hotel lobby is beautiful and welcoming. Upon arrival we had a double upgrade for our honeymoon which was a lovely surprise. Our room had a balcony with a sea view and sunloungers. The rooms are lovely but could do with a little bit of paint here and there. Breakfast is lovely... Read more

We booked through amoma, and got a cheaper price for our stay. My 3* is mainly related to the size of the room, it was an extremely small twin room, with hardly anywhere to put things, not enough drawers or shelves to place things. The other reason is it is in need of a little updating in the rooms and bathrooms. Also I felt the beds were rock hard, and the pillows too, I've rarely been that uncomfortable in a bed for many a time, considering the cost of the hotel. That said I couldn't fault how... Read more

My sister and I stayed at the Hotel Continental for 5 nights in September. The location is perfect; very central to all the restaurants and bars, and handy for the Marina Grande too. There is also a lift (very tiny, but functional!) which goes directly to the beach level and Marina Piccolo which saves a lot of walking! On arrival we were a little surprised at the tiny room and bathroom, however it was clean and functional, with air conditioning. There is a wardrobe, a couple of drawers, a fridg... Read more

Good location, close to the main areas of Sorrento, and easy access via the hotel lift to the beach/port area. Staff very friendly and breakfast very good. The communal facilities at the hotel were well looked after, and the roof terrace bar lovely. However for the price you pay I would say that the rooms are quite dated for a 4 star hotel, serviced well with a turn down service and in general furniture in a good condition, but in need of an update to bring it up to the standard of the communal ... Our stay was made very comfortable and great fun by wonderful staff, with a special mention for Giovanni and his cocktails! and Franco and Antonio in the dining room. They looked after us so well, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast buffett was beautiful, pool area quiet and relaxing and the terrace had amazing views of the coast. The reception area was stunning but as previous feedback suggests the rooms a little dated. Upgrade to a room with a view and ask for a mattress topper for yo... Read more

We arrived at the hotel after a long trip from Rome only to find they did not have our reservation. The company we booked through had gone bankrupt and canceled immediately after we had booked without letting us know. This was extremely upsetting but Tonino on the front desk was so helpful and sympathetic. He saved our vacation. He offered us the Ibsen Suite for the first 3 days but indicated we may have to move twice more to different rooms. Fortunately, he called about an hour later to sa... Read more

We have just returned from a week's stay in this hotel. The hotel is lovely, the staff friendly and very attentive and helpful and the breakfast cannot be faulted. HOWEVER, we were given room 101, which, having stayed at many many hotels of similar quality so can speak from experience, should be an embarrassment to the hotel and doesn't live up to the four star category. It is dark and depressing. There is a balcony to sit out on but it directly faces a frosted privacy screen because the nex... Read more

This is an outrageously overpriced hotel that is in disrepair. If you like hotels that MIGHT have been 4 stars 40 years ago, based on 1970's amenities and decor, then maybe you'd like it here. Within 5 minutes of arriving, 4 different employees swarmed us to "help" in different ways that would, in their mind, warrant tips. This was a constant throughout the trip. The walls are PAPER THIN, and ALL NIGHT AND MORNING you hear everything from other travelers coughing and screaming to hotel staff an... Read more

The hotel is in a great location, just below the old town of Sorrento, which is the best place for dinners, shopping and strolling around. So for location, I would rate all five points. We had a room with a partial sea view which was nice - we saw Vesuvius and a lovely little piazza from our balcony. Room was a nice size, but toiletries were not that good of a quality and walls are pretty thin. We sleep with our earplugs on, so it wasn't that bad, but if you don't, you may get problems in sleepi... Read more

Absolutely stunning Stay here in the Vesuvio Suite. The staff were amazing. We paid for 3 rooms initially for our immediate wedding guests and rooms for a further 20 guests staying from the friday to the Monday for the wedding itself. The breakfast was amazing, a banquet every morning. I cannot begin to explain how wonderful our suite was over looking the sea. The accommodation was good, the included breakfast buffet was outstanding! We made day field trips to the island of Capri as well as Positano which was 45 minutes away on a scooter ! We chose the hotel after looking at reviews, and for it's location, and we weren't disappointed. We stayed for one week at the beginning of September. We stayed in room 108 and our daughters in 107. 108 was spacious but 107 was a little smaller. Both rooms were clean and comfortable, with good service from the chambermaids, The air conditioning worked well, which was needed as the weather was hot, apart.from a couple of days. My friend and I spent 3 nights here in August 2016. The location is good, being fairly centrally located. I can't say we were warmly received upon arrival - it was just part of their job. We were briefly provided with an orientation of the hotel and emphatically told that any excursions we wish to go on should be booked through them as the rates are the same everywhere. We wanted to enjoy a day trip to Capri and arranged it through the hotel, the weird thing is that we had to pay a portion in... Read more

Ocean view, balcony, large comfortable room and a very helpful staff in a location that you can walk to whatever you need, what more can you ask? Our first trip to Italy or Sorrento and this was our first stop. This hotel is an easy walk from the center of Sorrento, and offers some lovely views. Very good breakfast with a large selection. The rooftop restaurant is worth a visit for great food and outstanding service! Note that irons are NOT available in the room, which makes it a bit tricky when you're traveling for business! Mattress was extra firm, if that's your thing you'll sleep well!

Wonderful hotel with a extremely friendly staff. The pictures don't do this place justice. At check in we were upgraded from a mountain view to a room with a lovely balcony overlooking the Bay of Napoli. Couldn't be happier. The breakfast is adequate really don't need a hot option even though they have many. Also gluten free options. Sadly no tea maker in the room.

The location could not be better 5 minutes and you are in the centre of Sorrento, it is near the port and bus and train station. Staff are very friendly and the rooms very spacious and clean ours had a side sea view and large balcony. Food and drink here is pricy compared to town but we were out most of the time so it was fine. A Lift inside the hotel (not for the claustrophobic) takes you down to the beach and port. We fully agree with all the positive comments already written about this hotel. Because of the design of the building not all the rooms can be as attractive. We had one on the side with a bigger balcony and partial sea views. Comfortable beds, plenty big enough and very clean.
