Returned after 11 nights on 19 August. I have always said I will never go to the same place or hotel twice, but we are planning to return next year, need I say anymore. We could not fault this hotel, the food and service was superb. We would like to praise individual members of staff, but we can't they were all superb. Returned after 11 nights on 19 August. I have always said I will never go to the same place or hotel twice, but we are planning to return next year, need I say anymore. We could not fault this hotel, the food and service was superb. We would like to praise individual members of staff, but we can't they were all superb. We were in room 308 overlooking the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, the road is extremely busy, but it is the Amalfi coast road and once the balcony doors were shut it was fine, and at home we live in a very quiet Close. Yes, the pool is not massive but it is enough to swim a few laps and cool off, and the garden area is lovely. We arrived at 9.30 in the evening and 2 cold meat salads and a bottle of wine had just been left in our room. The rooms are beautifully clean, with large double showers, our bed was particularly firm, which suited us. The air conditioning automatically switches off when you open the balcony door, well ours did, but just push the little button on the control to start it again. If you want British food, don't go here! The lunch menu in the garden is extensive from freshly cooked pizza in the pizza oven to pasta, salads etc. Yes they do bbq beef burgers, and even cook some chips, but do you really want that in Italy? The evening meal is from a choice of the menu, as is the "Vital" course, in the time we were there we never had the same menu twice, there is then desserts, then sorbet or ice cream, then cheese and biscuits if you like. Want a drink from the bar rather than a bottle of wine off the excellent wine list? They will bring you one. Not finished your one, two or 3 bottles of wine? Take them into the bar with you. The entertainment is low key but had a couple of evenings, where we up having a boogie, Carlo and Kelli are excellent. I could go on but I won't, book for next year! But, not before we do please!
A few bits on Sorrento Amalfi etc. Extremely busy, still retain their Italian charm, but very commercial. We did Pompeii and Herculeam on the local train, very easy and only â?¬14.50 for the 2 of nus return. Pompeii is extremely busy if you don't want a guide when you get off the train, turn right, ignore the guide who tries to push you left to the guides, these are â?¬10 each for 2 hours, plus your entrance fee, â?¬13 each if I remember correctly. When you get off the train at Herculeam, there is nothing, go to the right and down the hill it's a good 10/15 walk. It's a bit cheaper than Pompeii, far smaller, and better preserved, if you are only doing one, do this one. If you are getting local buses you have to buy tickets from the shops, then as you get on the bus you must frank them in the machine by the driver, if you don't, and an Inspector gets on, they will fine you. The land train around Sorrento is worth doing, it's only 35 mins but gives you a great insight to the place. We used the hop on hop of coastal bus which leaves from outside the train station and you can buy your ticket there, it's slow, and obviously you don't get as good a coastal view as going by boat. Capri trip is very expensive, to a very busy, very expensive island, but it is lovely. Enjoy your holiday, may see you next August!
