Can't say enough about our stay. Room was spotlessly clean; bed so comfortable, bathroom roomy and bright. The veranda out our room had a spectacular view. Friends of ours made trip plans for us and booked us into this Grand Hotel - what a treat!! Perched right over the sea, stretched along its lovely property, town to the left, Portofino around the corner, this was a perfect place to "put down roots" for three days of exploration. The staff is top notch - helpful, elegant, approachable, respectful. And, of course, the hotel itself and all its amenities. First class from start to finish, we stayed end of May. The price we paid included breakfast. Considering the level of this hotel and the fact that breakfast was included it was cheap. It is a beautiful hotel at a great location. One note, if you drive in just as you round wall with name, you pull into small area you leave car. Road is lower then hotel main entrance. Also hotel within walking distance to center of town.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a tour. We absolutely loved it! Our room was excellent - overlooking the beautiful gardens and getting the sun all afternoon. Top quality cotton bedding, towels and dressing gowns all adding an extra touch of luxury. The swimming pool was also lovely but unfortunately not heated and April sunshine not enough to warm it up. Food was tasty and a nice selection. As we were with a tour group we had a fixed menu and didnt take the opportunity to try the a la... Read more

Spent three nights here as part of a tour of Pisa and Cinque Terre and was really impressed by this hotel, possibly one of the best we have stayed in on our many tours of the world. When you enter the reception you have a view up the mirrored stairs into the garden, when coming down the stairs the view is of the sea, a clever design feature. Try to get a top floor room on the ocean for the best views. The restaurants were delicious, the pool is huge,it is right across the street from the beach, and walking distance to Portofino although we took the boat back. The shopping is unbelievable and the small mom and pop restaurants were superb, thanks to great concierge recommendations. And,let us not forget the wonderful gelato. The area is near enough to where pesto is made to bring some home.

We spent 6 nights here on honeymoon, and couldn't have chosen a better place. We had a gorgeous suite on the 5th floor with terraces overlooking the sea at the front and Mediterranean gardens at the back, lounge, bedroom, bathroom and separate shower room. Our luxurious accommodation made up for the less than perfect weather which was a bit of a washout, but 2 sunny days enabled us to explore Portofino and Rapallo, both an easy journey by ferry. Thankyou to the kind and attentive staff at this grand and very well maintained hotel. The service from the concierge to waiters and room attendants was exemplary. Conveniently located near Portofino the hotel boasts an excellent outdoor pool and casual dining loggia. The rear park view rooms are quiet and cool. The only issue to be careful of is clearly grumpy older guests who long for the days children should not be seen - disappointing. However the staff were excellent with the children.

We will return to visit the lovely Santa Margherita Ligure/Portofino area, but will definitely stay at another hotel. We had booked several nights through our agent and we went to the front desk to inquire if we could extend our stay for one night. We were shown a new room and quoted an outrageous price so instead of agreeing, we told the fr... Read more

I dislike it so much when a hotel charges extra for the "sea view" and I end up on my balcony, with cars and buses and Vespas whizzing by meters below me. And the road noise doesn't abate until well into the evening. If you choose to stay here, opt for the garden view and take your views of the sea in town. The rooms are nice, the staff is professional, and the pool is lovely and large. It is a short walk into the center of town and a nice walk to some of the nicer restaurants for dinner.... Read more

This must rank amongst the best hotels in the world ! The views, sunshine, sea, hotel, staff and food (and vino) and even the chandeliers were just amazing. The upscale shops and restaurants in the harbour towns of Santa Margarita and Portofino and Camogli are also well worth a visit, by short boat trips (15 minutes hourly) or train (4 minutes hourly) in their own different ways. Great fun queueing up but have your elbows ready ū???. Some nationalities have yet to learn the art of queueing and ... Read more

This hotel has thankfully chosen not to go down the boutique hotel path and keeps true to its roots as a grand hotel . The furniture is not the same minimal chic that has become so commonplace and sometimes just bad. However the hotel does not sacrifice on modern amenities, the AC is wonderful , bathrooms are big , rooms and beds are comfy-the pool overlooking the Mediterranean is wonderful. And breakfast on the terrace is a mix of people of different ages and nationalities. Santa Margherita, w... Read more

Stayed here while attending a large family wedding and absolutely loved this hotel. Great position and incredibly accommodating staff made for a wonderful stay. Had a sea facing room, which I loved, but there is traffic noise. (My friends had a room facing the gardens which was very quiet and peaceful). We were a large rather noisy party and the staff could not do enough to make our stay very very memorable. Thank you Grand Hotel Miramare!!

The hotel delivers in every way. Great location, beautiful building , nice rooms, good breakfast , nice pool area, practical access to beach across the street and friendly and efficient service. My only caveat would be about the seemingly biased opinion regarding the best spots to eat in Portofino. No big deal...

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Miramare. It is one of the best hotels we have stayed in - fantastic. Everything is so well done - the hotel is beautifully maintained and furnished inside and out. The rooms are super comfortable, well equipped and decorated in soft colours. Restaurant service is very friendly and helpful - delicious food at all times. very attractive gardens and plenty of outdoor seating both by the pool and in the gardens as well as private beach facilities. Always skeptical when spending a lot of money on a hotel in a touristy destination. This place really can command a high price though because the service and location are perfect. There is valet parking, but also convenient street parking available in front. The concierge is more than helpful in making sure that you have the amenities and and reservations that you may need. The hotel is a really beautiful and boutique mix of vintage glamour and modern accommodations. Furthermore, they have the u... Read more

Food was very nice, service and staff were great. Thanks to our chamber maid who kept our room lovely. Can highly recommend this hotel and if I am ever in Santa Margherita again this would be the place I would choose to stay. We stayed 3 nights and loved this hotel. We did not know the area but staying in Santa Margherita Ligure was the best choice for us. The town is wonderful and the location enables you to easily walk to town and take ferries to Portofino (15 minutes) and the Cinque Terra. The hotel itself was great, clean large room with lots of storage space and a fantastic view of the coastline. The staff were very helpful and breakfast was good. Highly recommended!

My wife and I chose to return to Italy to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We rented a car in Rome and stayed at amazing hotels in central and northern Italy. We only had one night to stay at the Grand Miramare, but the stay was absolutely wonderful. They gave us a most beautiful room with a partial view of the sea. The room was quiet and very romantic, which we had requested. They acknowledged our anniversary with a bottle of champagne and some tasty favors. Everything about the vi... Read more

We booked a suite at this hotel and were not disappointed. We has a wrap-around balcony overlooking the water. There were TWO bathrooms and a separate living room. Each room, including one of the bathrooms had a view of the water. We didn't want to leave the hotel! Next time we are staying longer. Easy walk to Portofino overlooking the water and took the ferry back. There are great restaurants in Santa Margherita Ligure. Easy cab ride from train station. The hotel has a car service whic... This hotel is the full Edwardian luxury hotel experience. Food excellent and well presented although the wines were expensive and national rather than local. Drinks at the bar expensive although cost mitigated by the free nibbles. The swimming pool is salt water and quite blissful although not easy for children. They do have a beach opposite with good facilities. The gardens to the rear are very pleasant. The bus from Pisa stops outside the hotel.

My wife could not have been happier with my selection to spend the final three nights of our 10 day Italian holiday celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary at the Grand Hotel Mirimare. It was absolutely stunning from the moment you enter the lobby area and look out the front doors to the crystal blue Mediterranean and out the back door to the beautiful gardens. We booked an ocean view room and were rewarded with a large room with a private balcony, an outstanding view and a bottle of prose... Read more

Absolutely spectacular! From the moment you pull up to the vehicle staging area to the time you depart, and wish you had stayed a few more nights, the service was fantastic. The Front Desk Staff, especially Danielle, were fabulous. There was an initial issue with our reservation, but thankfully and very professionally, she was able to straighten everything out. We stayed in a front room with balcony facing the Mediterranean. Well worth whatever the extra cost was. Absolutely beautiful vi... Read more

My husband and I celebrated my 70th Birthday at the Grand Hotel Miramare and what a wonderful time we had. From the view of the Mediterranean from our balcony, to the lunch by the pool, to the delicious breakfast and dinner on the veranda, I can't say enough about this hotel. This is the second time we stayed here and I already can't wait to go back. Everyone there made sure that our stay was a memorable one.

Small and friendly hotel with nice rooms and great views. Book one with a balcony. Surprising amount of facilities: pool and terrace bar especially, for such a small hotel. Difficult driving through the town streets to get there but well worth it. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Ideal for a romantic getaway and one minute walk from the water and town center.

The hotel has a very nice, large swimming pool and pretty gardens. It is across the street from a beach which was quite crowded but still enjoyable. Santa Margherita is located between the Cinque Terre and Portofino. We spent a nice few days exploring that part of Liguria. The concierge recommended several good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. We had a very pleasant stay this summer and look forward to our next visit.

The last time we were on the Italian Riviera we had just gotten married and were staying in youth hostels or B&Bs! Now, 45 years later, we had the privilege to stay at this gorgeous hotel. We were given a beautiful corner room with a balcony, overlooking the sea and the pool. Just breathtaking. The service at this five star hotel was excellent, as one would expect and the amenities, food and wine were excellent. We stayed three nights at the Hotel Miramare, and wish we‚??d stayed several more. It was the most relaxing, beautiful place in our two week vacation in northern Italy. We traveled by train and took a cab from the station the short distance to the hotel - perhaps 1.5 miles, past the town of Santa Margherita Ligure to the hotel. We had booked a garden view room, asking for an upper floor. I commented at reception that I‚??d read about some rooms having side views of the sea, and that‚??s exactl... Read more

This hotel overlooks the sea and is an elegant hotel. My wife felt like a princess staying here. Breakfast was great - eggs, bacon and all the usual stuff in a buffet. The lounge/bar area was very nice and we were able to buy a reasonable Vermintino which was excellent . The grounds were beautiful. You will not be disappointed.

We had never been to the Italian Med and found this hotel through Fodors. We have never gone wrong with a Fodors Choice hotel or restaurant btw. A seriously attractive wedding party from Antwerp was in the restaurant and bar the first afternoon. It looked like a shoot for a travel magazine, just a beautiful scene. We were upgraded to a magnificent room with an awesome view of the Italian Med. The staff is polite and very old world. Loved it. These pix don't do it justice.

The Grand Hotel Miramare is like something out of a movie. It's stately and lovely with amazing views, great staff and in a good location. I had an ocean view room for my first night which was just spectacular and while I had to move rooms to the back of the hotel during my stay, the room was still fabulous, even if the view had disappeared.
