We stayed for one night at this grand hotel in the center of Sanremo. We had a very comfortable room ( we were upgraded to Superior room upon arrival ). The view from the hotel is amazing- blue waters, palm trees and flowers. The outside pool is very nice, the sun beds are very comfy with the shades for reading a book. pure relaxation. The most amazing experience, and a highlight of our entire trip to the Italian Riviera, was the breakfast on a sunny terrace with a stunning view and a great ser... Read more

I have to say this was not my most mature arrival at a hotel. We'd had a rough drive from Genoa in the rain and when we drove up the winding driveway, sun out and the promise of a heated sea water pool and tennis, I could barely contain my excitement. Valet parked, luggage disported, charming welcome, we were soon ushered into gorgeous rooms. So riviera, bursting with colours you never see: striped wall paper and floral curtains, marble bathrooms...but it's Lovely and fresh and smacks of old ch... Read more

We spent 2 nights in this beautiful hotel where everything met our expectations. The rooms were clean and spacious. The pool area was clean and the service was super good. We happened to be served by the same lady, Lucia, at the pool and on the terasse when we had cocktails and we were very satisfied with her service!! She was kind, quick and efficient. The breakfast had a huge variety and the view from the terasse whilst eating is unbeatable! I would highly recommend this hotel!

This was my return visit to the Royal Hotel Sanremo and I'm more than pleased this time thanks to the attention from the management and the team. They improved a lot since my previous stay. First of all it is breakfast served in the room. Now it is very nice and enough for a light eater like me. Then it is personal and friendly attitude- I was called by the name and it made me feel very comfortable. From the minute you arrive to the last moment the hotel team makes you feel as a dear guest. I stayed at this hotel many years ago and it was truly 5*+, not any more. Our room was very dated, the service was generally poor, the pool area which was once magnificent needs serious repair. All the floors are shabby apart from the ground floor which still retains its elegance. However the prices are still 5*+. What a shame!

Great majestic setting. The facilities have seen better days but the service is comforting classic elegance. Rooms are spacious with high ceilings. The pool and beach club are great. Breakfast on the terrace is bliss. The restaurants and menus looked amazing, but sadly the prices were making our eyes water. We will come back!

Location is fantastic with a nice pool. Rooms are renovated and comfortable. Not the level of service I would expect from a 5 star hotel. Not sure whether it was because we are Canadian, booked the hotel through Expedia (paid over ?600 per night), or stayed only two nights; but we certainly didn't receive the level of service others did. While other guests had fruit in their rooms, not so much as a chocolate at turn down service for us. Lots of small things - no bottled water in our room, dirt... Read more

Great service! A renovated classic, yet comfortable rooms, beautiful decor, beachside view, smoking area, wonderful breakfast....probably not like a modern 5 star, yet it has an elegance of its own....and at the price I paid (?110 per night) in March 2015 (Sorry, not in July).... It was perfect!

We have just had a wonderful holiday at The Royal Hotel, San Remo. The hotel is decadent and a bit of luxury. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean, the bed linen and towels are changed daily. The staff are so helpful and friendly. A particular mention of Clarissa and Ras on reception and Francesco at the pool. The only one who was unfriendly and unhelpful was Pinot in the poolside restaurant. The room or jnr suite we had was amazing, I have never had so much wardrobe space on holiday. Beautiful v... This is the place to stay if you want the extra. Very professional and service-minded staff. The room with a sea view is absolutely fantastic. Very clean and quiet. It offered a unique sophisticated atmosphere. Lovely pool area and garden. This is the hotel and stay that we will remember forever. We give it our highest recommendations.

Stayed for the long weekend. The hotel and amenities are luxurious. It is located close to Cote d'Azzur and easy to make a one day trips to Nice, Cannes, or Monte Carlo. Also, you can easily catch a break by the pool, if you are too tired and need to recharge your battery. It feels right yo come here and slow down your fast pace life....

We went to the Royal Hotel Sanremo only for a overnight stay. Our first impression was of a slightly decadent hotel, but was quickly overcome by a freindly staff and well maintained facilities. It was amost like a time travel to more glamorous times of the 50´s when the hotel must have been at it´s prime. Some mistakes like air conditioning blowing directly on the bed weren´t very well thought trough. It could have been all perfect, if my car hadn´t been scraped against a wall where it was... The Royal Hotel restores ones faith in the word 'luxury'. It is truly, madly, deeply luxurious and oh so relaxing. What makes the Royal a stand-out hotel is not only the fabulous setting and the faultless food and drink but also the friendly, courteous staff. To set up camp pool-side - where the service is slick, the towels are by Frette and wine perfectly chilled is a delightfully decadent way to spend the day. I have stayed in many palaces built at the turn of the 20th century. The Royal beats them all as I understand it was built in 1872. It has retained its style and elegance (hmmm. After all I was not there in 1872 ! ). Very well maintained hotel. Most courteous staff . The room ( 409 ) was large and pleasant. The marble bathroom, with sea view, was very large and had quality amenities. Nothing to complain about. The grounds are very nice. The pool is perhaps a bit crowded but we are in July ! Th... Old style and charming luxury hotel in a city that we actually did not find that attractive. But the hotel made up for it with a nice seawater pool, friendly service and a great breakfast buffet. Spacy rooms and lots of art noveau ornaments added to the experience.

Moving on from Portofino and heading to Monte Carlo we decided to stop off at Sanremo for a couple of nights. The Royal Hotel Sanremo is traditional and although requiring modernisation in certain areas is authentic with hints of the 1950's here and there, offering clean and acceptable accommodation. I expected a lot from this hotel and the vacation in Sanremo, and sadly my expactations did not meet reality! The location is beautiful and the beach itself is also very nice, however, the beach only "opens" at 9 am, and in order to get to the beach you have to get a voucher from the hotel reception, in the morning before you go to the beach! And if you come after 8 am to pick up the voucher - there is nothing left, and you are stuck at the pool. I do not travel all the way to Sanremo to sit a... Read more

Royal Hotel Sanremo is a very expensive luxury hotel, but even considering the high room rates I still think the hotel is worth a top score - the hotel is pricey but really delivers, and with a big friendly smile! The hotel is from 1872 so it's old even for an historic hotel, and I wish there was more information about the hotel's history on its website and in the rooms.
