This was a great stay, however the cleaning staff didn't seem to know any English. But the rooms are old world elegance. The front desk is more than willing to help with any detail. The spa gave great massages and great food for our many banquets we had in the ball rooms. I would give it the gold star approval!

We were given a lovely large room with a view of a palm tree and some beautiful historic buildings. It was quiet except for the early hours when every night we heard the noise from the Hard Rock Cafe. Our marble bathroom was lovely, we were most comfortable. We loved the bar for our nightly aperitifs and Doneys was good value for a delicious breakfast. The staff were great everywhere. We can't wait to return but it is expensive.

We had a three night stay in Rome at the Excelsior for a family vacation. Our room was very nice. It appeared to be recently renovated. It was very comfortable. The location was very good. We had lunch in the hotel and found it to be remarkably average. Breakfast was included and was a very nice buffet. One word of caution: we asked the concierge for a dinner recommendation our last night. We explained we were looking for light dinner. The restaurant he recommended left us feeling ripped... We stayed for only one night in Rome and were very impressed with the experience we enjoyed at the Westin. The hotel is beautifully designed in a neo-Classical style, with clean lines and marble flooring. The staff were warm and inviting. At the front desk, the woman made special effort to get us a nice room since we were only staying for one night. Our room was gorgeous, with hard wood flooring and a terrific balcony from which we watched the moon rise. The neighbourhood was a pleasure to walk ... Read more

We stayed at the Excelsior our first trip to Rome years ago. It was nice to return for this trip. The hotel is perfectly situated within walking distance to all the major attractions of Rome. And we did walk! We had a lovely spacious room. When we go back to Rome, we will choose the Excelsior again!

We loved this hotel and it's Italian appeal. We had a lovely size room with open window for fresh air but still quiet at night. Didn't hear anything through walls (except for 1 night). Only downside no iron which was a first ever for me (would have been nice to be told when booking). Handy to the Spanish Steps and Hop on Hop off bus stop. Great assistance from Concierge.

We really enjoyed staying here. This is a beautiful old hotel (110+ years), with grand classic design. The staff and service was perfect! Very helpful and friendly. They really make you feel very welcome and take the time to make your trip easier. Our room was a suite and it was gorgeous. Large beautiful bathroom that was very clean. We also had a great walk in closet. The bed was comfortable as well. There are some minor (I do mean minor) wear and tear on this classic gem, but nothing that affe... Read more

We stayed here for 2 nights this past May. Its was our first visit to Rome and are Starwood members, so the Excelsior was our Best and First choice . The room was large (newly renovated) and just magnificent. The location is walking distance to so many of Rome's attractions just across the street from the US Embassy. I would definitely stay here again. The only negative was the pool. It was not very warm and the jacuzzi was cold and the jets only stayed on for a few minutes.

Beautiful old building for this amazing 5 star hotel. Everything inside is just perfect, although you can notice that some furniture start to show the signs of time and usage. Room very specious, bed extremely comfortable, you cannot wake up it`s that good! Services offered by the hotel are top. Just very pricey the only disadvantage it has :)

We were able to stay in a gorgeous suite for our honeymoon. The hotel was so accommodating and sent up prosecco with fresh fruit. The room was HUGE, and the public areas of the hotel were well kept. The lobby area is gorgeous and we had a few drinks each night at the bar downstairs which is really nice. Hotel staff could not have been nicer. This was a wonderful hotel. The service, room, and lobby are very nice. The hotel's location is okay, up a hill next to the US Embassy. It is about a 12 min walk from Termini Station and about the same to the Spanish Steps. The only real complaint I have about the hotel is the fluctuation of the water temp while showering.

The bathroom sink area wasn't as clean as it should be. I mean the area of backsplash was covered in some white film. The bathroom was acceptable. The bed was comfortable. This was a presigious luxury hotel during the Dolce Vita. It is located in a primary spot in Rome, walking distance to Fontana Di Trevi, Spanish Steps and other world famous land marks. The propriety changed ownership several times in the latest years and is now very badly maintained. We rented a single suite: two large bedrooms with their own bathrooms and a large living room in the middle. Very desirable location-great shopping and dining options all around. Very close to Borghese gardens. A short walk to Spanish Steps. Great staff and service. No real flaw. But is it a super swank 5 star? Maybe not quite but it is good enough to for a hotel snob like me so it's pretty darn close. Loved it and its location.

Heard great things about this hotel from high end friends who have stayed there. But we found the rooms to be old and it needed a refresh. I'm not sure what the doorman does since he didn't offer to help us with bags, never hailed a taxi and never greeted us hello. I do give them very high kudos for upgrading us to a higher level of room since my wife found our original room to be too old and too unkempt to her satisfaction. I applaud that effort.

Thoroughly enjoying our time at the Exclesior. Great location close to lots of sights but far enough away from the tourist crowds. Large rooms decorated in a traditional style. Two small complaints - no tea making faciilties or irons in the rooms supposedly due to fire restrictions. We have stayed in many older style and 5 star hotels and never heard this one before. Object to exorbitant cost for a room service cup of tea.

The hotel has the Renaissance of the time period, but in need of updating. The rooms are large for Europe standards, but the air conditioning rattled all the time and didn't cool as much as we preferred. Also there isn't a minibar in the room to have a cold drink. Excellent amenities for a 5 star hotel - as expected. They catered for all tastes. Rooms were huge and beds comfortable but as others have pointed out, you can see and 'smell' the age of the hotel especially on the carpets and drapes. Heavy, classic interior that does not give that sense of 'cleanliness'. There is a small gym which is good for a morning workout. The best thing about this hotel is its excellent location. This hotel is right on the Via Veneto, grear street, easy walking to major sites, perfect for exploring, and lots of great little restauants nearby. The hotel is big, so service is a little 'distant' as I suppose you'd expect. And the day after I checked in, they were expecting 200 guests overnighting before a cruise. I got a deluxe room, decorated for royalty - red and gold wall paper, beautiful chandelier, tons of space, and even a small balcony where you can see the very top of St. Peter's Ba... Read more

Its an average hotel of Starwood similar standard as the US Westins but not up to European ones. Doesn't honour life long Platinun status as expected. The quality of breakfast & coffee is average unless the coffee comes from Doneys. The outside seating on Via Veneto was the only exceptional part of the trip with their Bar at Doneys.

The doney cafe was good for the breakfast buffet which we included in the room rate. The cappuccino was great as well. Service in the restaurant was slow but this is normal for Rome. This is a great 5 star hotel that will always deliver great service and luxury treatment. It is not centrally located so this maybe a drawback for some. On the other hand it is very close to Villa Borghese in which you can enjoy a nice walk or a bicycle ride. The rooms could use a good renovation and it would add to the value of the property. This time, though, I found the price differential between luxury hotels in Rome (e.g. Hassler and Russie) and far more reasonable American-branded hotels to be preposterous. I confess, I've been something of a snob about avoiding American hotels while traveling, but over the years I've come to appreciate American-style hotel comforts. It's one thing we really do right! The decor of this hotel is a throwback to older and classier times. In my room & the lobby, there was a chandlier sighted which enhanced that vibe. Friendly service though my personal preference is for a more modern hotel. Pretty convenient location as it is a short walk (less than 15 mins with my pace) from Trevi Fountain. Just be wary of Cafe Venetto opposite the hotel, that is a tourist trap. Enjoy your dinner instead at Doney Ristorante if you are feeling lazy and want to grab a bite nearby.

Stayed as a part of the Nisa Conference, I would highly recommend the Westin Excelsior to anyone visiting Rome, centrally located in Rome. At this hotel you are within walking distance of the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, and numerous shops and cafes along the main road. The Metro station is a 5 minute walk away. Easy subway ride to Colosseum, the Forum, etc. Rooms were spectacular. I stayed in a large suite on the second floor, overlooking the US Embassy. The bed and bath were heavenly, of... Read more

The room is surprisingly large for hotels in European cities. The ground floor is grand. The hotel is in the historical district of Rome. It's a nice hotel. The Internet is pretty fast. It is worth a visit when in Rome.

A nice historic hotel with an amazing past, but I was not really convinced. The rooms are a bit aged. The bar closes at 1pm and is not very excited. The quality in the restaurant is ok but not amazing. Service is fairly slow. Overall there is more exciting places in Rome

Great hotel in a great location in Rome. It is a beautiful old building with updated and spacious rooms Beds are very comfortable. Walking distance or a short taxi ride to the train station. Right across the street from the US Embassy and walking distance to the Trevi Fountain, Coloseum, and so many other sights. Staff is friendly and helpful. Love the service at the SPG properties

Our experience at the Westin hotel in Rome did not meet with our expectations. We appreciate a certain degree of service and quality. We have had the opportunity to stay at Westin , Ritz, and Marriott hotels and have generally always had a very pleasant experience. We were quite saddened by our stay at the Westin in Rome. From the moment we arrived, we felt a very unusual vibe from the staff. We accept that the Westin is not to be directly compared to the Ritz, but nevertheless, this service lev... Read more

I've stayed at a number of Starwood Hotels around the world and have generally enjoyed them. I didn't enjoy the Rome Excelsior at all. The only good thing I can say about it is that the building is quite pretty, the rooms are reasonably large (certainly larger than its sister hotel, the St Regis) and it is quite close to Villa Borghese and walking distance to the Trevi Fountain. Having said that: - The service we received at this hotel was appalling. There seem to be a lot of staff working a... Read more

Didn't had a change to experience fully, but I would like to share my opinion that this is great hotel, in the heart of Rome. You feel like you are not in the hotel but like in museum of art. Very delicate designed five star luxury hotel, very amazing rooms, clean and fresh bathrooms. Food are just delicious at the breakfast. Well organized and polite staff. High speed internet in all are of the hotel. Highly recommended to stay!

Our room in the hotel was nicely appointed, felt more "old world" than typical top of the line American hotel room in its decor. Staff was helpful, though a bit nonchalant when my daughter and husband had an issue with their room key. Interesting to be in the hotel the day of the election--watching them set up for a by-invitation only election night gala. Quiet location; accessible to many sights, though we did find ourselves walking quiet a way when returning from "ancient Rome." I would st... Read more

Cozy Westin near the US embassy and 10 minutes from the metro stop. Rooms were quite big but furniture sparse. Free coffee in the lobby but strangely on first and third day they served instant coffee while second day they served brewed coffee. They also only gave us free complimentary water on one day out of three.
