We stayed at the Mecenate Palace for 4 days at the end of April following a 17-day transatlantic cruise. The hotel manager was pleasant and helpful. Our room was lovely, clean and quiet. The rooftop dining room is elegant and the service is great. Their complimentary breakfast spread is amazing and the coffee is wonderful! Marco, the lobby bartender, was friendly and made my husband's drink just the way he likes it. Great snacks are provided at happy hour time, too! The hotel is located ju... Read more

Great staff, great location, great room overall a superb place to stay. Only small complaint is that in the morning the shower isn't the hottest, bug honestly I'm nitpicking. If you can try to have breakfast on the terrace, not only is there a great selection to have the view is superb. In the evening it also doubles up as a very nice bar.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this great hotel. The position is very convenient being right opposite St Maria Maggiore, tour buses pass by the door and underground stations are close by. We had a superior room on the 5th floor and it was beautifully decorated and very very quiet. Roof top breakfast is mainly continental but very good and the staff are very attentive. From our first welcome to paying the bill we had a lovely time and I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We are spoilt by standards in the Middle East where the rooms are huge so we find this cell like room very unpleasant but the location was great and the staff was pleasant. The food was third rate. I would only recommend it for the location which was very central without being too busy. Walking distance to the metro, buses and taxis and hundreds of trattorias. There was a roof top bar and dining area which was delightful and we were opposite the Santa Maria Maggiore Church the main Church in ... Read more

We stayed in this hotel ten years ago booking a suite and had a wonderful time. So, for this three day visit at the end of a cruise we though it would be great to do the same again. What a change! The room was very clean, breakfast delicious and extensive, rooftop dining with terrific views of Santa Maria Maggiore next door. The staff was wonderful...so helpful... Great location and the terrace was wonderful. Breakfast was very good and dinner as well. The rooms were small, but comfortable; however the designer of the shower/bath needs to rethink it. The shower guard only comes about a third the length of the tub, so I was constantly worried about flooding the bathroom (and it did ultimately occur). Still, a minor issue. I was not looking forward to Rome as I had not found very good hotels on two prior holidays here. Third time lucky. This hotel offered an upgrade from an executive room to a top floor suite for 30 euros more per night. "Room" 557 is not for those with leg, heart or lung problems as it is up a long spiral stair case beyond the reach of the elevator but for anyone else it is a gem. Stayed here for a weekend break with my Mum. Hotel was lovely right in the centre of town, however our room was a bit old fashioned and chintzy. This didn't really matter as it was only a base for exploring. The buffet breakfast on the roof terrace was fab, had both hot English breakfast food as well as the cold continental meats and cheeses. Had drinks up at the rooftop terrace and the view of the Santa Maria Maggiore is stunning. Bathroom was very nice. Shower was huge by European standards. Large fluffy towels. Free buffet breakfast up on the terrace this morning was delicious! Wish I were staying longer. Mecenate palace is a sweet find!

I had a room with a view of the Basilica Di Maria Maggiori it was very quiet so perfect for sleeping. The breakfast on the roof terrace was really good. Rooms are serviced daily and are very clean. The staff here are very helpful. This is a very good locations for visiting the main attractions of the city.

Four of us stayed at this hotel 16th-18th September and enjoyed every minute of our stay! We stayed in apartment 603 which was located a short walk down the road...but still on the same block. Ignore all the bad reviews (unless the rooms are all different) but after reading reviews on here about the apartments we were pleasantly surprised! It was very spacious...2 bedrooms with double beds....2 bathrooms, one with jacuzzi (which was so soothing on our tired legs and feet after our tours of coll... Read more

Staff efficient and friendly. Upgraded to a beautiful, clean room on 3rd floor. Evening meal on the terrace was special - what a setting! Good location and a short walk to station making transfer to Cittevechia easy. Great start to our holiday and would definitely stay here again

This hotel was recommended by our private tour guide and it was a great recommendation. When we arrived we were offered an upgrade to a suite for 30 more Euros per night, which we accepted and then enjoyed our 2 room suite (room 522). We did not have a great view, but we dined in the roof top restaurant and that was a great view of the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore. Overall, the service was excellent and the staff very friendly. We would definitely stay there again.

The worst reception staff I have had the misfortune to meet (1) rude (2) (unhelpful) they need to go on a customer relation course The hotel was not that clean and a bit dated The restaurant /food was quite good The location was great But the worst thing was the dishonesty of the staff use you own imagination as a few things went for a walk .told reception but they did not care and made us feel as it was our fault. would go to Rome again but I would stay somewhere elsa

We stayed here for 5 nights and had a standard double room it wasn't big but it was spotlessly clean and comfortable no problem sleeping even though next to a busy street, the hotel is lovely throughout and has a good restaurant on the roof with great views across Rome where you can see the coloseum and st Peters basilica, the only problem i had was the taxi transfer from the airport that I booked through the hotel they charge you ?55 but the city taxis charge 30 and that's a fixed price apart... We stayed here two nights. The bed was hard, but I guess that is standard for Europe. The room was clean, the service was nice. The view from the roof was beautiful. The extra fees were news to us. There was a resort fee that you had to pay in cash. We paid $40 a night to park the car. It was right in the mix of everything. The train was a 5 minute walk. Lots of eateries and shops....GREAT LOCATION.

We have stayed at the Mecenate several times, and it never disappoints us. It has a good location, close to Termini, in an ever-improving neighborhood. The rooms are very nice, extremely clean, the staff is lovely. The view from the top terrace is great, a wonderful spot for Happy Hour. We love the food (breakfast buffet is exceptional). It feels like our home in Rome, just a delightful place to stay.

On the recommendation from close friends who have stayed at this hotel on several occasions, we checked in for a one night stay in August 2016. We were shown to our 'Executive Room' which was located up a flight of steps in another building down the road from the main hotel. When we initially viewed the hotel on their website it indicated that the ??Executive Rooms?? were located on a new floor of the hotel not in a separate building. The room was very dark, on the ground floor and located wel... Read more

Two of us had checked in for 3 nights to this hotel in mid October. Nothing was special at the beginning; old smelly carpets everywhere, strong smell of newly used cleaning supplies in small sized room we've booked, friendly staff, ordinary breakfast in the restaurant that located on the roof of the hotel, etc. However, next day, once I started asking new reception staff various questions I've felled a different treat, they were less friendly and very short on answers. This is the perfect place to stay in Rome for Family or for Couples. Location is perfect as the hotel is right next to the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore and it is a few blocks away from the Metro (train) Station. Rooftop offers good view of the city. And free wifi is also available at the whole hotel. If you're leaving early, you can advise the staff (at night) to pack your breakfast, which you can actually bring on the train (perfect if you're traveling intercity)

This hotel is interesting, not a modern hotel, we stayed 3 nights and didn't have no problem. Staff was very friendly and helpful, room was comfortable enough with tea making facilities. Breakfast was good, and well presented in the roof terrace. The hotel is centrally located. It is ok for a few days stay in Rome.

We stayed here for two nights back in September. The hotel isn't modern which is fine, but a bit too old fashioned. The rooftop was lovely however drinks were overpriced and we got charged for items we didn't have, could understand if it was busy but we were the only couple there. We were toying with having dinner there but the menu looked awful. The breakfast was poor. Great location but would not stay again.

It looks out over the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, which is an added treat. Staff - They are just the best. Friendly, helpful, couldn't want for better. Free Wifi - Fast, reliable, 24/7. I logged on and didn't have to think about it again. Free Breakfast - Buffet style with something for everyone. Great waiters. (Tip - Hot chocolate is a bit sweet for m... Read more

Can't wait to come back here! We had a late arrival at the hotel and found out the roof-top restaurant/bar was open till 11. The view was spectacular! In the darkness of night, the Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore radiated with majestic glory. We couldn't leave this place it was so beautiful, so we sat down for dinner. It was a little more up-scale than what we normally choose, but we enjoyed the food, wine and service. Our room was a little cramped as we chose a triple classic. Th... Read more

Nice hotel in the heart of the city. Very convenient to Roma Termini train station. Well appointed room, and good staff. Overall an excellent place for a short visit to Rome. I only stay one night, so I cannot comment on the value of the place for a longer stay. However, I cannot say why it would not be a good option.

We stumbled upon this place on a previous visit to Rome, and made a mental note - stay here next time. So glad we did. Just spent six nights there and loved it. It's located in a great part of the city, right across the street from the amazing Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the four major basilicas in Rome. It's close (but not TOO close) to the Termini, a walkable distance. The rooftop restaurant offers incredible views, and the included daily breakfast is an elegant spread with a wide choice... When we arrived however, we learned that these rooms are not in the actual hotel building, instead they are a couple of minutes' walk down the road in what seems to be an apartment complex. The hotel is a 5 minutes walk from Termini Train station which is useful to get around Rome. The hotel itself is very basic but nice, we had a nice view to Sant Maria Maggiore. The food at the hotel was ok. I would recommend buying a Roma Pass to get around the city rather than what they recommend at the hotel. The rooftop terrace was nice for the views and would be nice in the summer months.

We arrived in Rome very excited as this was our first trip to Italy. When we got to our hotel they told us that we had been "upgraded" to an apartment. At first I was happy about this until I saw where they had placed us. We were taken offsite to a nearby apartment complex that was very dirty, run down, smelled of mildew, had graffiti on the entrance and had trash sitting outside of our room. We promptly returned to the lobby to ask for a different room, they said they were fully booked (even... Read more

We were on the 4th floor overlooking the back of the hotel with nothing much to look at but the breakfast restauraunt was on the roof and the views from up there were spectacular. It overlooked the beautiful church Mary Maggiore and you can see for miles over the rooftops. There is also a bar on the roof from 5pm with heaters and twinkly lights and of course the view again.
