Everyone we met during our stay at Hotel Stendhal was friendly and helpful, none of the moodiness and snobbery I am familiar with from living in France. The gentleman in the bar, Valerio, was particularly charming and helpful. It was great to discuss Italian life and politics with him.

This is quote a late review from back in 2009. We stayed at this hotel in the middle of rome. pretty much walked to everywhere. Hotel itself was beautifully decorated. very nice and rich breakfast in a rather cute setting. Service was excellent. Room was on a small side but hey, you're in Rome and you're bound to get out for sight seeing. size of room did not matter to us. overall it was an excellent stay. loved it.

The hotel is strategically located at del tritone, very near to many attractions, it's walking distance to Trevi and Spagna. Also walking distance to Barberini metro station for less than 5 mins. The room (104) is a bit small but still ok, enough space to open up my 3 luggages in the same time, 1 large, 1 med and 1 cabin. The bed is only queen size or smaller i'm not sure, smaller than the other hotels I've stayed during my trip, however it's still enough for 2 people to sleep on, but I need lar... Read more

Had a very good 2 night stay in Stendhal recently. Location is fantastic - 1 min from Barberini station, 5 to 8 min walk to Spanish steps and Trevi fountain. Room is clean and pretty spacious, and service was really friendly and good. There's even a turndown service! Breakfast is sumptuous and served in a nice setting with light well. Slight downsides: our bed was made up of 2 single mattresses - but still a comfortable sleep. Room facing the road is slightly noisy - you will know when Rome wak... Read more

We wanted somewhere convenient for sightseeing and this is a great location. The main hotel is on Via Del Tritone but we had booked rooms in the brand new annex around the corner. The rooms were nicely appointed and for a city center they were quiet. The annex has a very small breakfast room that served a continental style breakfast. It was adequate but not comfortable or particularly inviting. The breakfast area in the main hotel looked much nicer. The staff were friendly and helpful. The... Read more

We enjoyed five days at the Stendhal at the end of May and then a sixth when we returned from a trip to Tuscany. This is a lovely small hotel in the heart of Rome. The rooms are tastefully decorated and very quiet. Our second room included a rooftop deck with a table and four chairs that offered a great city view of the roofs of Rome. The staff at the Stendahl is uniformly helpful and delivers above and beyond the ordinary service. I had lost my laptop at the airport and one of the staff me... Read more

Arrived at the hotel on June 26th, was greeted by a very rude gentleman at the reception. We asked if our room was ready/ if he could help us book tickets to the colosseum, he replied with an abrupt "no" to both requests. Shortly after 2pm, we were permitted to check into our rooms. The rooms are EXTREMELY tiny (at least 602 & 603) and the shower is even smaller (see attached picture). We'd like to personally thank Valereo for making our stay a great experience, especially for our girls. The Stendhal is a lovely hotel in a quiet location near both the Spanish Steps & the Trevi Fountain. My room was impeccably clean & quiet from street noise. Service was lovely, including the concierge who walked me around the corner to a restaurant so I wouldn't get lost. This sort of personal touch makes you want to go back again. In comparison to the look of our stay in Venice and Florence hotels we chose, we expected this hotel to not be as great. It turns out the rooms are well kept and clean. Although the look is not as modern, the bathrooms are updated. The staff here is very accommodating and nice. My Mom and I are currently "guests" at This hotel and I gotta be honest- it's awful! Our room is 80 degrees inside with NO air conditioning. I asked for them to turn it on and three hours later, nothing has been done. I asked again and they said "No. Not possible". The hotel Advertises "autonomous air conditioning" but apparently that is a false service. On top of this, the hotel staff- Luco in particular, has been especially unhelpful and cantankerous. We have traveled in Europe several times so we are familiar with hotel amenities, quality and typical size of rooms. We found the front desk staff extremely helpful. However, the Breakfast staff was really lacking in service ... This is a recurring theme in recent reviews. That's really too bad since the food selections were just fine. Our bed mattress (room 301) was extremely worn and tired, which was was unfortunate since we were tired after seeing the great sites of Rome. With some minor ... Read more

We went to Italy for our Honeymoon and Rome was our last stop!! We booked this hotel after seeing the pictures online and thought since it was a "4 star" hotel, we wouldn't have any issues (we reserved their Superior Suite). However, when we arrived and checked into our room which is supposedly their biggest room they have, we were shocked! The room was super outdated and very small. The issues: 1. The bed was sunken in to the point that while sleeping, you would roll into the center... 2. Th... Read more

A boutique hotel that is centrally located in the heart of Rome. A few minutes walk to Spanish steps, and plenty of shops and food in the immediate vicinity. The front desk staff is not rude, but not very friendly either. The rooms are clean, although a bit outdated.

This is a small hotel next to the piazza Barberini in Rome, roughly half way between the Trevi fountain and the Spanish Steps. It is close to the bus stop and subway system, and there are many wonderful cafes and coffee shops close by. Highly recommended!!

Our room was first class, clean and charming with a double door opening to a quiet inner sunlit court. The staff was pleasant and very helpful from the front desk to the room service and cafe. The full service breakfast included was delicious and varied...and the coffee was rich. The hotel is centrally located and in walking distance of many classic sites like Trevi fountain and Pantheon. The subway station is right there and many bus routes. Around the corner are great restaurants and outdoor... Read more

The Hotel is not large,Old but updated. has excellant staff. Not everyone speaks english but that was ok. room was comfortable, bit small by US standards but I understand not for Italy. our reservation included daily breakfast which was very nice. very close for lots of sightseeing. Our flight arrived in the morning and our room was ready which was wonderful as we needed to refresh ourselves. The Bar across from the hotel was a bit noisey late on the weekend. desk was staffed 24 hours a day plu... Read more

Had 2 days in Rome. Short walk from Termini train station and close to all sites or subway. The staff was very helpful and held onto our luggage for us after we checked out so we could site see before heading back to the train station.
