We stayed at Splendide last week. It was absolutely lovely. The concierge upgraded our room to a suite that was huge and had a private outdoor terrace overlooking the old city wall of Rome. The bed was very comfortable and the washroom was the largest one we saw on our entire trip of Italy. We were even greeted with a welcome box of chocolates waiting for us in the room. The service and rooms at this hotel are superb. And of course, there is Mirabelle restaurant on the roof-top terrace (see ... Read more

My family and I recently stayed there for four nights to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday. We booked five rooms of different categories. I was tempted to book Hotel De Russie or the Hassler but decided to try the Splendide. We had a fantastic time, the rooms were in good shape, the room service was excellent and perhaps the best part is how attentive and professional the staff was, everyone without exception. It was our second stay at Splendide Royal in Rome. we stayed in May, after 4 days in Venice and a 12 day cruise through the Greek islands and Italy. When we checked in, we were ugraded to a suite on the 6th floor (604) with a great balcony that overlooked gardens and we could see St. Peter's Basilica, which was beautiful lit up at night. Our room was beautiful, very spacious, and they also sent us a lovely fruit basket and a bottle of Prosecco, which was so nice and it was our 25th wedding an... Read more

I had wanted to book the Eden, where my husband and I stayed last June, but it is closed for renovation. I traveled with my two adult kids and this was their first visit to Rome. When our travel agent suggested this property I was happy to see its location is close to the Spanish Steps (just steps away!) and that the views are as breathtaking -- the Villa Borghese and Vatican/St. Peter's Basilica. We had the best introduction to this hotel and it made such a good impression. As soon as we stepped out of the taxi, the doorman offered to take our bags with such a big, real smile, we felt genuinely welcome. And then the man on reception was just as happy and friendly, taking his time to explain things on the map and also show us our room. The room itself was the most spacious we'd stayed in on our whole trip, and it felt great to have all that room to move about. We had mentioned on book... Read more

The hotel was situated across from the Borghese Gardens. So one felt out of the hustle bustle. The decor was over the top and very Baroque. It had the feel of a 5 star hotel with little extras in the room. The breakfast was excellent and the service outstanding. The view from the breakfast room was over the garden. There were some nice restaurants in the vicinity and amenities.

Had a conference and the organizing group selected this hotel. Very near the villa Borghese with the Bernini sculptures. Rooms, staff, breakfast all first class but at $700/night quite an expensive hotel. Part of that charge was for an extra bed in the room - $200. We switched hotels for 2 nights and stayed at Cesar's House near the Royal Forum and saved over $400/night and the room was larger and very clean. Breakfast was superb at the SR and poor at CH.expensive breakfast therefore.

The room was on the smaller side, but that's to be expected in Europe. It was very beautiful, however. The door was such a rich wood, unlike typical hotel rooms. The lobby areas were clean and welcoming - they made you feel fancy just for sitting down. Service was great too.The location was great - you can walk to just about anything you need to and it's close to the Spanish steps.

Avoid this hotel! We traveled to Italy and visited Venice (baglioni Luna), Verona (due torri), Balogna (baglioni), and Tuscany (Castello del Nero) and then sadly this hotel in Rome. The shower/tub was unusable. I am thin 6' 145lbs and could barely fit in width. Height was fine. The tub did not drain, the faucet leaked all over my makeup bag. We blew a fuse with only the hairdryer plugged in...was told I used the wrong plug. Would have been nice to have been told this at check in...In the states ... Read more

Having stayed in much larger hotels recently, it was a real pleasure staying here. The location is absolutely ideal: in one direction, you have the Spanish Steps and in the other, the Via Veneto, and across the street, the Borghese Gardens. Even more importantly, the service is wonderful, and quite personable, which isn't always the case in Rome. The rooms are charming in an old word style. Mine had a view out toward the Borghese as well as over to the Vatican, and a beautiful outdoor te... Read more

This was the second visit to this beautiful hotel. We enjoyed the service and the location on our first visit that when traveling to Rome following a cruise I recommended it to our friends. Everyone at the reception desk was happy to help with any question you may have had. We had a wonderful room with a balcony and view of St Peter's Dome. The breakfast room is simply lovely as was the food. In particular, Ivan was extremely kind and helpful. He was extremely pleased that we were returning ... Read more

My wife and I get to Rome almost every summer for several days, and since 2004, the year after we discovered it, the Hotel Splendide Royal, a few blocks from the Spanish Steps, across the street from the Borghese Gardens and around the corner from the top of Via Veneto, has been our address. We stayed there in August 2016 for the 10th time. What keeps us coming back to this former monastery that became a hotel in 2000? Several factors but foremost, perhaps, are the rooms. In a word, they're beau... Read more

We were fortunate to spend some time in Tuscany this fall. We spent several days before and after in Rome. We were recommended this charming small hotel by some friends. Their description did not do the hotel justice. The location is ideal, just blocks from the Spanish Steps and the Bougesie Museum. The rooms are large, well equipped, and QUIET. The staff was superb - anticipating our every need. The breakfast buffet has everything one could want. The restaurant on the top floor - Mirabelle -... Read more

My wife and I stayed here for 4 days while in Rome. The hotel is centrally located and close to the Spanish Steps and the Borghese Gallery. We were able to walk almost everywhere from this hotel. Also, there are many really nice restaurants that surround the hotel. Our room was a bit small but definitely manageable. The room was clean and service was great. The staff did the little things well like chocolates when we arrived along with bottled water and sweets for the turn down service. The buff... Read more

From the minute we arrived we knew we picked the right place. There is so much history in this hotel and it shows in the architecture. I can't say enough good stuff about the employees, from the bellmen to the front desk, to the housekeepers, and I could go on. Anyone who likes small boutique hotels this is the place for you!

What a wonderful experience this hotel provides! From the moment we arrived to be dazzled by the beauty and elegance of the sitting rooms, we were made to feel welcome and special. A room upgrade saw us shown to a beautiful classicly decorated room, very large and with an excellent bathroom. A gift of delicious chocolates was a bonus. We had dinner at the Mirabelle which was stunning. Breakfast offered excellent variety - finally truly hot food and coffee - accompanied by a delightful view.... Read more

Wonderful hotel. The staff was excellent, very helpful and accommodating. Scores would have been higher but held back the worn feel of the room; left with a sense that the last major renovation was many years ago and it has been through a number of refreshes since and is now due for a major renovation.

We have been a lot of times in Roma but this is the best hotel I have seen in the town. It is situated in a perfect area of the town, close to the historical center, easy for walking to the best shops also. The service is very polite, it is clean, the breakfast is perfect. The rooms are large and very nice furnished. It is a not noisy and the view is perfect. The internet works very good. It is a must visit place.

Rome was the last stop on our vacation in Italy. We had experienced stays in apartments, and hotels. The Splendid Royal was in a great location. Short walk to Spanish Steps. (now in Italy short may be longer than one thinks, lol) Our room was large and the breakfast was delicious. What impressed me the most was the doormen. They were always friendly and helpful! I will stay here again.

Hotel Splendide Royal is well located to explore all of the main attractions in Rome by foot. The hotel staff were all incredibly helpful, professional and friendly. The view from the restaurants are fantastic and the food and service at La Mirabelle made for the best meal out that we have ever had - the staff could not do enough to make our night special. The hotel is a lovely old style but very elegant palace style hotel. We got a Supreme room and were upgraded to a junior suite which was very nice. Small things we didnt like was that some details are too old like the carpets and the toilet had a terrible smell from the shower drain but generally a very nice hotel in a great location

The hotel was definitely one of the best in Rome, if not Italy. The hotel is billed as a 5 star establishment, but I would rate it a 4 star, due to: -- the Wifi service is both slow and unreliable in the bedrooms. Service was better in the lobby and common area on the first floor, but could still be improved. When my husband mentioned this to the front desk, he was told that " it's an old building with thick walls", " we don' t have any problems in the lobby", rather than any effort being made to improve the situation or apologize for the poor service. --...
