What a lovely hotel. Perfectly located fifteen minutes from pretty much everywhere in Rome. Close to many tasty and reasonably priced restaurants. We were upgraded on arrival and found the room to be lovely. Breakfast was great, a vast array of food to set you up for the day and particularly notable for the friendly Ruel greeting us every morning and ensuring all our needs were met. Reception staff were superbly helpful providing us with the best map of the stay and helping us with directions. W... Read more

The hotel was located in the middle of Rome. As most hotels go in Italy, no parking lot at hotels. You must find a parking space on the street. Drove around for 30 minutes looking, finally doubled parked and went into the hotel to see manager. He sent his bell boy with us to find parking space, of which he did 4 blocks away. Rome is filled with cars and scooters. The manager said wait til around 2:00 AM and you might find a spot in front of the hotel. This actually worked. Hotel is older... Read more

Just back from a 4 night stay at the Gambrinus Hotel and have to say I would use it again. Although room was small we had everything we needed, fridge, safe, all toiletries and complimentary water, Huge bed. Was on a quiet street and within walking distance to major sites. Special thanks to Ruel and Pina for the lovely breakfast and extremely polite service every morning.

Quaint and extremely clean little hotel. Friendly staff was great and it didn't have that uber touristy feel about it which is a little hard to avoid in Rome. Some of the nearby bars and restaurants seemed to be primarily frequented by locals. We had a ton of fun getting off the beaten path with local advice and avoided hanging out in a restaurant or bar full our tourists...which defeats the point of visiting Italy.

We have just returned from a week in Rome staying at the Gambrinus which is situated perfectly for visiting all the main sites. We had a very friendly welcome and all the staff were helpful. Ruel deserves special mention for his warm welcome every morning and in particular being very attentive to my needs for gluten free options. We would have scored the hotel more highly but agree with other reviewers that some attention is needed to decor. We had a Classic Double which was ok but provided no s... Read more

Ok so we have just spent 3 nights here in a superior room. Location really is everything and is exactly what you are paying for. Walking distance to just about everywhere (colosseum about 30 mins away) with tube stations on both the A and B lines within 10 minutes of the hotel so real handy. So that for me is the good point, plus the friendly chaps at reception who are only happy to help with anything needed. Sadly the room, and as I say a superior room, was lacking. It was small. Absolutely loved the Gambrinus Hotel. For us it was a perfect location as we didn't fancy being too central. There is a bus stop directly opposite the Hotel which is brilliant. We only used that Bus Stop on our return to the airport as we had heavy bags....apart from that we walked to the nearest Metro....the walk was very pleasant and not far at all. The area itself feels very safe....it is amongst the embassies etc and there are no beggars or people trying to sell you things anywhere! The room... Read more

Brilliant hotel. Every day we enjoyed a lovely breakfast in a very quaint room below. We had nice superior room with a high ceiling, clean bathroom (although the shower is a tad small), big window and we were even lucky enough to be in the room with the balcony. The rooms are furnished well, like the pictures show they are a bit outdated but it works! They're not dark and dingy they're quite luxurious and cosy. Soaps and hair dryer were included as well as a safety deposit box and wifi. The ho... Read more

Our time at the Gambrinus was perfect for the 4 nights we had in Rome. To get to our tours, it was quite a bit of walking but in the end, the area where the hotel is had restaurants, shopping and comfort. The person we saw daily and nightly was Roberta and she took care of any of our needs, questions, gave directions, recommendations on restaurants, hailed cabs and anything else she could do to make our stay pleasant. The hotel was neat, clean and continental breakfast was a great way to star... Read more

Hotel Gambrinus is a very quaint Italian hotel. The rooms are a little small but still clean, tidy and traditional. The service is very good and breakfast is lovely. The location is pretty good with a bus stop out the front and metro stops around 15 mins walk away. Termini station all a sort cab ride or 25 min walk away.

Room was very well laid out. Toilet was cramped with a bidet squeezed in. Shower nice and fast through the mixer taps. Bed linen was clean but a little light on covers. Air conditioning worked well and kept the room cool at night. Had safe in room which was a big plus. Only disappointment was the tv was a ?24 suppliment and be aware of the ?6 per person per night tax at check out.

Nice little hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. A little bit of a walk (10 mins) to see the sights but not too much of a treck. Breakfast was ok....I loved the croissants, very tasty and nice and warm. The guy who took charge of the breakfast room (sorry I can't remember your name) was very helpful and polite. It was my birthday while we were out there and the bottles of bubbles at breakfast was a nice touch. Would I stay here again?....Yes I think I would, it may not be the most luxurious ... Read more

Stayed here with my partner for a 3 night short City break, it had everything I look for in a room, clean bed, clean/functioning shower, good location and breakfast. It took us about 15-20 minutes to get to the hotel on foot from the central train/bus station (termini). The hotel has personality and so do the staff, who were all exceptionally welcoming and friendly, any questions were answered and we were never made to feel uncomfortable. Hotel Gambrinus is located in a fairly quiet street away from the extremely busy city centre. The nearest Metro is about 5-10 minutes' walk away and we were told by the hotel staff that we could also pick up a bus from across the road, although we didn't use them. The hotel itself is small and we had an economy room but it was adequate for the four nights we stayed there. The room and bed linen were extremely clean. Overall not a bad place to stay. It is a walk from the main attractions but bus and metro lines are very close- personally I would rather escape those huge masses of people at the end of the day for some R&R at my hotel. I read reviews about this hotel and the Room is small but who goes to Italy to stay in their hotel room ? It was clean, A/C works great, staff is friendly. Breakfast is nice- hot and cold selections . nice place to stay for a few days while vacationing.

Overall this hotel was good but its location is a bit out of the way - a solid ten minutes from the Metro which can be a bit of a distance after a long day of walking. The small elevator capacity is a real challenge at peak periods so allow plenty of time. Our room was smallish but worked fine. The wi-fi in the room was very disappointing and was either weak or kept cutting out. In the lobby downstairs, the wi-fi was fine. The air-con on hot evenings was struggling. My wife and I stayed here for three nights while in Rome and I would consider this a mediocre to poor 3 star hotel at best. The staff were decent but that's really my only praise. The bathroom was by far the smallest we experienced across 3 different hotels in Italy and I guess even though they are 4 star they don't like to leave some nice soaps and shampoos for you, just some public bathroom style soap dispensers attached to the walls. I stayed at the Gambrinus hotel for 2 nights and I'm writing this review in fury as I check out. My room had a bed bug problem. I couldn't sleep for the 2 nights I was there. The first night, I initially thought that the reason I couldn't sleep and itching was because I was exhausted, little did I know that it was more than that when I realized I had bite marks on me. There is a bus stop across the street and Centrali is only a few stops away. Once you learn the system it is close to the action.
