This hotel has an amazing location as many other reviewers have pointed out. It is very close to the Vatican; maybe half a block away from St. Peter's and about 1 km away from the Vatican Museum. I believe the hotel used to be an old convent and you can sort of see that based on how the rooms and hallways are situated. The rooms and public spaces are very run down. For some this is part of the charm of staying in a historic hotel and as long as you understand that this is a budget hotel go... Read more

we were a family of five and were given a two bedroom suite no 324 with large windows on via conciliazzione. wonderful wonderful wonderful. we felt like nobility and very roman. absolutely quite rooms as it is all well sealed against outside noise. besides being in a palace full of original antique furniture and wonderful paintigs the staff is really cordial highly educated and very helpful. we were so close to the vatican and especially for the wednesday papal audience as our grandson ... Our main objective was visiting the Vatican while in Rome and the Hotel Columbus was the perfect place for our stay! A former monastery, the hotel has old world charm at a modest price with all the modern day amenities you need! Literally one block from St. Peter's Square, it is not a luxury or modern hotel, but the staff was most pleasant and helpful, the room was modest but spotlessly clean (our room which was on the back side/garden view was quiet) and the breakfast (which was included) wa... Location is very good. Staff was very helpful. Breakfast was good. But the hotel, considering that its a 4 star hotel, is in dire need of a refurbishment. wifi in our room was very weak. bathroom was clean but needs good maintenance. Room furniture was very old. and the windows were very very small. Its more a 2/3 star hotel.

This hotel is pure luxury in Rome. Neighbouring the Vatican City it is a short walk from the river tiber and the centro storico. A true paradise. An old Roman palazzo with wood beams and fresco paintings. In awe from the moment we walked in. Pets welcomed.

Pretty dated but still good! Amazing value for price paid (ended up being 3 times cheaper than other hotels in area) Breakfast and parking included! (Parking is always an issue in Rome so this was amazig - great, on-site free parking!)

If you are looking for modern luxury, this is not it. If you are looking to immerse yourself in the art, history, culture of Rome, this is the place. Additionally, very comfortable suites, more so than any traditional hotel. I highly recommend it.

Rooms at the hotel Columbus overlook the internal gardens and courtyard or Via Della Conciliazione. Admire Pinturicchio's frescoes on the walls and vaults and relax in the opulent atmosphere. All rooms come with air-conditioned and decorated in typical Italian style with dark woods and tiled floors.

This is our first time to Italy. The location is great if you are interested in the Vatican since you exit the hotel, turn left and there you are. The staff is very nice and tries hard but seems somewhat overwhelmed. The room is very Spartan at first glance but has all the same basic amenities as any American hotel. The furniture is small, worn and the room has a bare look to it. In fact, all the furniture we saw had a similar look of benign neglect. However, we had a great view of the interio... Read more

went with tour group and we stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. on our first night we were given a room on 3rd floor, a small room with very small shower room, the room was hot and the air conditioning was not working right, the room was clean with 2 twin beds which was not comfortable at all. the next 3 nights after we came back from our trip, we were given a huge room, much nicer than the first room we had, I think it is their suite room because our bedroom was separated from the living room,... Room clean but basic. Sheets changed every day. Fridge and TV. Good shower. Breakfast basic. Staff friendly and helpful. Near buses and Metro and good restaurants. Only a few minutes walk from St. Peter's Square and 10 mins from Vatican Museum. 10 mins from good selection of shops in Via Cola di Rienzo.

This is our 2nd time in Rome/Vatican and we wanted to stay that is a stone's throw away from St. Peter's Square and Basilica...literally! Our hotel a couple of years ago was much better, within walking distance of the Vatican but we'd rather stay here. It is not the best accommodation especially if we are looking for what we are used to in the US for the same amount. This is an old building with modest accommodations. Our 'King" bed were 2 single beds moved next to each other! The bathroom wa... Read more

The hotel had wonderful character and amazing history. The hotel was clean and simple although the bed and shower were just "OK". Breakfast and hotel restaurant were great. You can't beat the location!

We had visited St Peter's Square and the Basilica and were looking for a quiet place to rest. This was the perfect place which we found by pure chance. There is an inner courtyard that is miles away from the buzz of the Vatican but which is only a few meters away from the entrance to St Peter's itself. The courtyard is not that obvious to find but is worth the effort. We had a very pleasant lunch here with a glass of wine and some blonde beer whilst "chilling out". Food and service were very goo... Stay here was very mixed, as previous reviewers have noted. It is definitely not a four-star hotel and is in desperate need of thorough renovation. Positives: front desk staff, location, and fact that it is old palace. Room was quiet, even though it faced street. I was never bothered by noise. Clean. Negatives: rooms are as sparse as convent I stayed in--bed uncomfortable and no better than cots put together, pillows few and thin, tv old tube style and not work, lighting awful; restaurant is t... This hotel in Rome is ideal for tourists wanting to visit Vatican City as it is minutes away. In fact our front facing room gave us a fabulous view of St Peter's Square. The hotel was a former monastery and the building itself has lovely decorations in the main areas. The bedroom we had was another story! It was austere, very dark and in dire need of maintenance. The bathroom was dark and dingy. There was adequate storage but impossible to get a second pillow and our sheets and towels were not ... Read more

One reviewer called the Hotel Columbus Austere. This place was austere even by dorm room standards. The bed took up most of the room and there was a hallway to a decent bathroom and shower. There was a small closet with a faded finish on the doors and trim and a dresser much the same. We were there in July without air conditioning and it was very hot. We got a fan from the front desk and that helped, but I was glad to move to another place. The location was convenient for seeing the Vatican t... Read more

Location is great, and the building itself is beautiful. The room however was very scruffy, with stains on the sofa and walls. One small window, but so high up you can't look outside. Our room was next to a utilities room; the dryers made an awful racket. Definitely not a 4* hotel.
