Do not book this hotel unless you want to be ripped off. ?50 was charged for a late check out but they will not inform you of this when you check in? Also you will get charged ?4 per person per day for city tax ?? Rome was lovely with lots of history we would go back but not to this hotel.

Unfortunately this hotel is in need of attention. We checked in and were offered a balcony inside court view upgrade for 15E. Nice upgrade if the room was in good working order. The first thing we noticed is that the bathroom door wouldn't close fully. Called the front desk and they sent someone up right away but could not do anything until the next day. No problem and the door was fixed the next day. The air handling system didn't seem to operate and we needed to open the patio door to stop fr... Read more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for four nights this past April. It was clean, straightforward and perfected located for us. It is in a residential area approximately a 10-15 minute walk to the Ponte Lungo metro station or a 5 minute walk to the bus stop. Along the way there are several pharmacies, small tobacco shops and a very nice larger grocery story just past the bus stop on the way to the metro. We felt very safe in this area. We stayed in this hotel on the Friday of Easter weekend till the Tuesday. It was a lovely stay. All the staff do anything to make your stay great. Breakfast was good, something for everyone. With a proper coffee machine! The room is very spacious. The only one thing was there was no air conditioning so found ourselves getting very hot in the night and having the window wide open. The room had a door to the inner terrace, on the fat floor, it was convenient. The staff was polite, they gave us a map, explained the metro system. The food in the restaurant is nice, not boring, hand made tiramisu was fun. The waiters were annoying standing near and looking at us while we were eating. The place is around 10 min fro mine metro, but we knew what we were getting so no problem. There is parking lot too for the car.

Stayed here one night at the end of a Cosmos tour. This hotel had a lovely foyer and room was comfortable and clean. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. I only had breakfast here and found this hotel catered a high standard of food options. One of the better hotels on this tour. Only downside is that it is a little out of the city centre however it is an easy walk to the metro.

Stayed here for one night. Cleanliness in bathroom could be better (slight mould in bathroom shower area-but not bad for Rome hotels) Location is close to a main train station. About a 8 minute walk to hotel. Train transportation from airport to hotel and hotel to cruise ship port was very easy. Hotel had breakfast included, pretty standard for a holiday inn hotel. wifi was free and strong enough to use in our room. Would stay again if in Rome. The staff here are great. They were very informative, helped us get taxis for six each day and were so helpful when we decide to have an impromptu dinner on the patio! Very professional and responsive. The hotel is off the beaten track a little so you can get great prices but it's within a 2-3 minute walk of the bus stop (including route 85) and the Tuscolana train station.

Once we found the hotel, which was not easy, it turned out to be just fine. Unfortunately the San Giovanni area of Rome is old and scarred by graffiti. However, very helpful staff, clean rooms, good restaurant. Reception procured La Traviata opera tickets for us, which was a plus. External restaurant recommendation turned out to be just great.

Nice hotel, the local area looks rough but is very safe. It is a 10 minute walk to the under ground train station Ponte Lungo. Again is very safe. Our only real complaint was the front desk staff and their understanding of English or our understanding of Italian; not a show stopper for us. Overall we would stay here again.

We booked this hotel because we are loyal IHG customers are have stayed at numerous HIE hotels around the world so are VERY clear what these 3 star hotel provide. The hotel is about 5 mins walk to nearest metro station (Punto Lungo) and i would strongly advise it is not the safest walks from the metro back to the hotel during late evening. The restaurant dinner was not what we the typical hotel food we expected but a beautiful testimony to a great chef and his/her staff's well experienced skills. The room was comfortable & the bedding plenty good for me. I paid premium thru a travel agent, try to book direct & save a lot of money.

After much deliberation trying to find a hotel to stay in whilst in Rome I settled for the Holiday Inn Express having stayed in them within the UK. It came as no surprise that you get consistent rooms with the Holiday Inn brand. We had an executive room ( Room 202) which gave us a balcony, espresso machine, bath robes and slippers. It was a nice touch. You have a hairdryer as standard in each room. I will mention that you are next to the train station Toscalana. There is a slight noise fr... Read more

This hotel is spotless, the staff is fantastic, breakfast is good, beds comfy. BUT it's in the middle of nowhere. And the subway is not close either. And Rome is big. But it's also really inexpensive. If you dont mind walking TO and taking the the subway to see ANYTHING at all, it's a very good deal. Skip the restaurant they suggest- C'era Una Volta (sullen host, indifferent cooking)- and walk to La Foglietta. The guy at the desk will show you the way.

Location is great for 85 bus and easy to find coming off the train from the airport. On arrival the staff at reception were excellent, very helpful, explained everything and very welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable. From the hotel it is approx 20 mins on the bus to the collesseum. Breakfast had a great selection and was tasty.

I agree completely with the Sarah S review. Most of what I was going to say is in there. I would also add a couple of items that were important to us. There is a Todis (cheap) market close by for sodas and snacks. The front desk was friendly and helpful and spoke fluent English. There is a computer available to print documents. The internet worked well in the rooms. Lots of public transportation options. Front desk will give you a good map--make sure you get it we used it a lot. If you are... Read more

The hotel experience was brilliant and staff very helpful, good breakfast with exceptional Italian food. The rooms are good size and very clean. They are cleaned and beds made everyday and new supply of clean towels and the service is exceptional. The hotel provide a map and a mobile smart phone (cell phone) free of charge to use to make calls as well as for navigation purposes. The smartphone has regular updates on places of interest that is worth visiting and provides information on good resta... Read more

The hotel is 5 minutes walking from the train station Tuscolana and bus 85 stop, few blocks away from Metro station Ponte Lungo station. It takes only 45 min walking to Colosseo if you want to enjoy the Rome city view. Our room is neat with balcony, however, be prepared there is no closet nor draw in the room. If you need iron, you have to go to top floor and there is one for everyone to share. If you need to put your important document in a safety box, you have to drop it to front desk. The br... Front desk staff could have been a bit more welcoming and friendly, but overall, a great stay! Lots of cool bars and restaurants within a short walk, rooms were clean and the bed super comfortable. The hot breakfast buffet in the morning had many options and was a nice little treat. Hotel is also ideal if you happen to have a rental car as there is a very secure underground parking lot for the hotel at a reasonable cost. I would stay here again for sure!

Modern hotel, with excellent staff. I rated it 5 star because of the value for money in an expensive city, $90. We stayed in first floor balcony room which has a big balcony overlooking the interior courtyard. Nice bathroom and shower, king size bed. Decent breakfast buffet. For English people this hotel is almost identical to the popular Premier Inn chain. In a safe area, with good restaurants within walking distance. Train is 300 yards away, with trains to Rome, St Peters Station for the Vatic... Read more

After reading all the excellent reviews, I showed my friends this hotel and we all decided to book HIE San Giovanni Laterano. Our stay was excellent, the breakfast delicious, nice and clean rooms, comfortable beds and pillows; we slept like babies after our long walks in Rome. The hotel is close to the metro station, in walking distance. Felt safe walking to and from the hotel. Really loved the free mobile phone, useful for local calls and helpful to find directions. Friendly staff. Definitely I... Read more

We trust HI and love having breakfast included so booked with confidence when visiting Rome. How pleased we were. A great location, walked easily from train station from airport to hotel. Local buses just at end of road with tickets from corner bar. Metro nearby too. We used bus 85 just 15 minutes to Colleseum. Had a warm welcome from staff, upgraded as members of IHG to a lovely room with balcony, a great place to enjoy glass of wine(from minimart 2 mins down the hill) and relax after walking r... Good Budget hotel. Rooms were basic - but clean and comfortable. The free wi fi worked very well with no issues - critical when travelling with a teenager. Very easy to get to from the airport. We arrived after 9:00 pm and the street did not look welcoming, but its very safe and there is a mini mart just a couple doors down. Its also easy to get into the centre of Rome to see the sights. Take the 85 bus and the bus stop is just down the road from the hotel. You can buy bus ticket from th... Read more

Out of all the hotels we have stayed in around the world the filling out of the form to get wifi is just crazy and once you get it, it constantly drops offline. If you have had a big day before arriving at your hotel the last thing you need are more forms to fill out. Apart from that the hotel is around 40 minutes out from the centre of Rome but it was clean tide and modern although basic toiletries were lacking. We only had breakfast here which was ok.

This was a very nice hotel. Typical express. Food was very good. It was only 2 blocks from the subway. Then a 15 minute ride to most attractions. You could stay closer, but cost more. We did a Groupon special package. There is a great family restaurant a couple blocks away. Search yelp for it. Not a great neighborhood late at night.

The hotel was nice, the room was spacious. Breakfast was good and included on the price we paid. The staff was not that good, especially when we requested a Late Check Out at 2:00 pm when we checked in and the receptionist told us that was fine as we are IHG Rewards members. But the departure date they called us after 12:00 saying that we had to leave the room and check out ASAP as they were fully booked that night. We had to start packing quickly to check out after 12:00 when we were told we co... Read more

Clean, modern hotel with spacious rooms. Very much an American type hotel, but honestly, we spent little time there so it didn't make much difference to us! The staff was friendly and helpful and even let us check in early after an all-night flight. I'd still be trying to find my way out of Rome were it not for the map they provided! While it is a bit out of the center of town, the 85 bus is just around the corner and it will take you almost anywhere. The metro is about a 10 minute walk from th... Read more

Everything was perfect! Newish building just around the corner from train station connecting to airport and with a shopping artery 2 blocks away. Allowed us to check in at noon. Room clean, nicely appointed King size bed with choice of hard and soft pillows And the breakfast buffet was the best we had in Italy!

I reviewed this hotel approx. 6 months ago when my husband and I last visited Rome. My opinion remains unchanged. It's just a great friendly hotel located in such a convenient area for reaching subway, bus or train! (Subway stop is Ponte Lungo and train station stop is Tuscolana) the breakfast is wonderful and the rooms are clean and very comfortable! Can't wait to come back!!

I recently went on a 5 day trip to Rome with my best friend. Overall comment, the hotel was clean and accommodating with helpful staff and every amenity necessary for a comfortable and enjoyable vacation. Handy is a cellphone provided by the hotel free of charge with FREE data to be used throughout Italy (GPS and internet), free international calling, and free quick links to advice and suggestions...
