If you like old hotels and can deal with their quirks this is worth it for the location. A "room with a view" that overlooks the Corso can be noisy. As I write there is a group of street musicians parked outside the H&M across from the hotel who have been there every day morning to evening. The worst part is that they only seem to know 10 songs that they play over...and over...and over. If I never hear Volare again for the rest of my life I will be happy. The breakfast is very good, something fo... Read more

Firstly, the staff were lovely. I want to prefix with that. The grand stately common rooms were nice. However; the rooms though small were not nicely furnished. Night lighting was poor in my room. The bedside lamp was broken. The wifi reception was horrible. We had an unfortunate day when the water was off. Yes. No water. No communication that there was no water until we called. Had to use bottled water to brush our teeth. The kicker, we got charged for the bottled water. A 5 star accommodation... Read more

I travel all over the world and stay in many 5 star hotels. I needed to stay in Rome last weekend on a few days notice. The Hotel de Russie was not available and the Eden is under refurbishment. I booked the Grand because I needed to be fairly close to an office off the del Corso. I booked a quad room and was provided a room that was on the first floor (only half the room was above ground level). The beds were like rock slates and the pillows were worse. There was literally no cold wat... Read more

This is a really lovely older-style hotel in a great location. It's about 3 blocks from the Spanish steps, right on Via del Corso. I note a lot of the other reviews question the 5 stars and that's fair. I'd describe it as "once was 5 star". It could do with a bit of maintenance. The shower was really terrible. It's really comparable to a 4 star, but it has such beautiful ambience. We loved it. One thing though: charging 15 euros for a standard beer is ridiculous and way over the price of much b... We absolutely loved this hotel and did not want to leave! It was lovely for a drink at the end of a busy day and the breakfasts were lovely and held in beautiful rooms! Our bedroom was huge and most comfortable! The hotel is situated in a perfect place to explore the city with great restaurants, churches and shops close by.

We were disappointed in the hotel. Needs an awful lot of modernisation. Dark rooms, dismal dining room, Electric points falling off the walls. No batteries in the TV Remote. Bathrooms not adequate all this for an expensive 5 star hotel!!!! Maybe OK for a 3 star

To make the reservation I phoned the hotel directly and was fortunate enough to speak to Elisabetta; with my imperfect Italian and her excellent English our particular needs were catered for - basically a suite with 2 bedrooms. On arrival at the hotel, which is in a perfect position at the bottom end of Via del Corso, we were greeted by Elisabetta personally with great warmth and charm. The hotel is immensely grand; the photographs show the lavishness of the decor though faded, and will appeal ... Read more

A hotel that is just so wrong in so many ways. Firstly, booking.com rates this hotel as 5 star which is so below the mark. The incorrect rating and pictures (probably taken many years ago) is in many ways false marketing. Let me tell you why. This hotel is in major need of refurbishment since 50 years ago. It smells bad the moment you enter, despite the hotel placing a few room smell diffusers. Its furniture is so old, outdated and pls don't tell me old is gold...especially when the sofa has a ... This hotel is just okay. When most of us stay at 5 star hotels, we anticipate and appreciate how we are taken care of and pampered. This hotel may be classified as 5 star, but I have no idea how. This grand old dame may have been nice at one time, but it is very worn now. Upon check-in, at 3PM, our room was not ready. You will love this place! They offer a ride from the airport for a decent price to begin with! Priceless when getting off of a long flight in a foreign city. The hotel itself is beautiful! Our room was clean and elegant. It is very near the Spanish Steps and we walked all over Rome from the hotel. The rooftop dining is very nice if you stay in (which we did our first night). The breakfast is fantastic. You won't go wrong here!

It is not clean, service is poor and the breakfast is worthy of a 2star hotel with drinks served in plastic glasses, scrambled egg made of eggpowder and horrible coffee. The hotel is however grand and deserves an ownership taking better care of its heritages.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in a terrace room. The room was large with a separate sitting room but that's the only good thing I can say about it. The room was very dirty and tired. The bed was a king made up of 2 king singles with a mattress that could only be described as harder than a palate of bricks. Hotels in central Rome are expensive. 5 star hotels even ridicously so. So dont think you make a bargain when you book this 5 star hotel, because i would rather grade this as 3-4 stars. However, the hotel is beautiful and the location is great. It would need some re-decorating and the service level is low (they even forgot to clean our room) but overall, this is good value for money. We have just returned from our 4th stay at the Grand Plaza. It is still the only place we will consider returning to because of the ideal location and interior beauty. We had a struggle with the air conditioner in our room this time. It just couldn't handle the excessive early June heat. But, we still find the staff friendly and accommodating, great bars, lemon terrace and roof top. We always recommend to our friends who are visiting Rome.

It is deeply puzzling how on earth this Grand Hotel Plaza in Rome remains to carry a five star mark. Although we read some negative reviews before, we wondered how bad it could be. The hotel is located in the heart of Rome. You can go anywhere on foot. Rooms are good in size but closets are very small and no ironing facilities exist. Bathrooms are archaic and from a different age. Overall it's ok but cannot be compared to other 5 star hotels.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights & the best thing we can say about this hotel is its location. Right in the middle of major attractions in either direction. But we would choose a better hotel next time that is not as central. We experienced the following at this hotel: 1. Rooms are very old - Toilet did not flush completely. There really is no excuse for this in this day and age. They fixed it once but it only worked properly for a few times. 2. Lazy staff / poor service a) we witnessed a... Read more

With no doubt the location is the best asset this hotel has. Apart from that, a little rusty, I do not think it would qualify as a 5 stars GL anywhere else in the world. rooms were old, breakfast was so so, and we almost missed our flight coming back home thank you to the guys who were calling our taxi. However it has a good quality/price relation and the location is unbeatable

Great location. Run down. Beautiful architecture and needs lots of money to do justice to the property. Service is lacking probably understaffed. Could have been a great hotel in Roma - overall quite disappointing.

The staff at the hotel are very rude and the hotel is totally run down. We stayed for 5 nights and we were moved to 4 different rooms due to the air conditioning not working in any of the rooms as well as the showers not working properly. The water temperature would fluctuate with the water burning you randomly and then freezing you a few seconds later with no change in settings. I would not rate this hotel 1* and would not stay here if someone gave me a free stay. The worst hotel I have stayed ... Read more

Whilst the Hotel is a beautiful building, in the right location, our time there was spoiled by film crews using the guest passenger lifts to move their equipment, when they could have used the service lift. They were also congregating in the Hotel doorway, which was very inconvenient and sometimes intimidating The room toiletries were not renewed (Vanity set) and the beds were not turned down of an evening, which you would expct from a 5 dtar hotel

Hotel was really disappointing, we were hoping for a five star experience but received anything but The terrace when we visited at 9 pm was empty with three waiters but they weren't ready to serve us and we left after 7 minutes. The toilets were filthy by the foyet. We had no toilet paper and when we ordered a bottle of water it was 10 euro. There were no umbrellas available. Overall I got the feeling that this place was really living off its name and central location. Don't waste your money th... Read more

we arrived about 11,am, and were told the rooms would be ready soon, we were a party of six, two rooms were ready at 3 pm and our room would not be ready until 5pm. when we finally got into our room it smelt musty, when I had a shower, the steam filled up the bathroom, so the mirror steamed up too, you cauld clearly see that the mirror had not been cleaned, because there were love hearts and writing still on the mirror. it all just looked tatty. also the ladies toilets near the reception a...
