The hotel is located steps away from the Vatican and about 4 or 5 blocks from the closest subway station so the location cant be beat. The wifi was terrible but that was not surprising. The breakfast is very traditional european with bread, cold cuts, cereal and some fruit...it was adequate and it certainly beat paying 10-15 Euros for breakfast anywhere close by. The rooms advertising a queen bed are really two single beds put together so during the night you suddenly realize there is a big ga... Read more

Wasn't expecting much but the hotel was ok. Just needed to be near the Vatican and it was a 10 minute brisk walk. Room was fine with a fridge and much needed air con even in April. Hairdryer looked state of the art but wouldn't blow a fly away. Take your own. Breakfast basic but again fine. Staff were lovely. My key wouldn't work 5 times during the week. Didn't keep it near my phone and didn't accept the excuse that metal detectors stopped it working. After climbing 40 plus stairs to 2nd floo... Read more

Location is very good. 5mins walk to Ottaviano metrostation. Lots of good restaurants very close to the hotel. Short walk to St Peter's too. Very friendly staff. Breakfast is awful. But you can always go out to a cafe for breakfast. We had 3rooms and all of them were nice and tidy. Comfi beds, air con worked well. Showers could be better.

Hotel is centrally located, very close to the Vatican and within good reach to the Colosseum, Forum Romanum and many other highlights of Rome. Room size is ok, breakfast adequate, some of the waiting staff helpful, the linen on the beds was clean. Otherwise there is little positive to report on. The maintenance of the rooms, bathrooms, furniture, flooring, walls, etc. is really poor, the room safe minute, the free wireless LAN too slow even for sending or receiving emails. It is not possible to ... Read more

hotel within walking distance of top attractions, a lot of places to eat- from small cafes to nice restaurants, hotels is old but quaint - needs some repair [carpet] not that they're not making money - very busy - buffet was sufficient - staff was friendly but knew little English[ hard to converse] - felt safe walking in the neighborhood - overall I had a great time !!!!!!!

Nice hotel not far from Vatican. Nearest metro is 5-10 mins walk. Vatican city is 5-10 mins walk also. Rooms are average size. Staff are helpful and fluent in English. Breakfast is not the best, not a great selection. Worth a stay if on a budget. Wouldn't agree on it being a 4* hotel, would go more on the side of a 3* hotel.

Location is good, near the Vatican and easy access to shops and restaurants nearby but it needs a lot of remodeling, carpets stained and there is only one lift. Our bathroom is clean but there is a smell of sewer Staff are good and friendly.

First of all, if the Vatican is your main interest, this is the hotel for you. If you're heading into downtown, the Ottaviano Metro station is a stone's throw away. Now for the hotel itself. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. While the building is old, it does have modern amenities such as Wifi and very good air-conditioning. The breakfast is basic but plentiful and overseen by a very friendly Somalian waiter! My room was small but comfortable with a single bed. If you'r... Read more

I stayed here with a group on 45 pilgrims for 5 days in May 2016. I was very apprehensive because of previous reviews but I have to say my sister and I had a pleasant twin room which was clean and comfortable, although some of our party did not have the same experience. One complained about her room and was moved the following day. Breakfast was adequate but not enough space in the breakfast room if all guests came down at once! One morning I ended up taking my breakfast up to the bar area as... Read more

Would have given it a 2 star if it wasn't for its great location, just outside the walls of the Vatican. I walked everywhere, metro, restaurants, shopping. Good staff, breakfast is the same everyday. The rooms and dining area can use a refresh.

Perfect for us! Staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating. Our room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the shower pressure was fierce. We were greeted every morning in the breakfast room with offers of capuchinos. Food buffet were delicious. We saw European tourists make a feast. With great restaurants for pasta around the corner, we stuck to the croissants and meats. The front desk gladly ordered us taxis, gave directions and suggestions, and were even accommodating... I stayed at this hotel 2006. There have been some renovations in some rooms but others have not been done. The bathroom is really small with the smallest shower I have seen in a very long time. My room was renovated so it was not too bad. Others in the group said the bed was like sleeping on a box spring. There is free WiFi. The continental breakfast was not so good. The best feature of this hotel is the location. You can walk to the Vatican in 10 minutes and walk out side of your hotel ... Read more

The hotel is in a great location .. and with a little investment .. has the potential to be a lovely hotel... but as it currently is .. it is definitely not a 4 star hotel. .. 2 star at most. The decor is dated, carpets badly stained, and everything is in need of a good shake up. Wifi hardly worked at all in the main areas and was non-existent in the room. Breakfast was complete chaos each morning, with a lack of cups, glasses, bowls ... and guests having to clear tables themselves ... the young... Read more

We have stayed at the Grand Olympic before, and always look forward to returning. The Location is excellent,so near The Vatican and any of the sites you want to see. We really like the hotel for many reasons, it is quiet, elegant, near all forms of transportation, good restaurants, shopping, etc. It is an older hotel and still sound and stately. The front reception desk is run expertly by Donatella, who can answer any questions and make suggestions, and reservations. Really small dank rooms that are unimpressive on any budget. No decor, no outlets, hard small beds. The wifi is beyond spotty. The lobby is ok and the halls are so so. The location is nice enough as you are next to the Vatican. Bottom line don't expect much.

The staff was very helpful. The hotel is a bit older, but everything was very clean, and the view from the room was great. The wifi was terrible in the room, but worked fine in the lobby where there was comfortable seating. The location was convenient to many of the famous sights, and public transportation was very near and accessible from here. They have an excellent, very fresh continental breakfast with typical european fare. Croissants, shaved cold cuts and cheeses, yogurts, fruit, breads, p... Read more

After reading some terrible reviews of the Grand Olympic after our booking we were terrified of what we may find however we were pleasantly surprised. It is in no way a 4* hotel, more like a 2-3* hotel however practical, in an amazing location and with a clean and quiet place to sleep and recover from a day of walking around Rome with A/C. If you are looking for a hotel to bum around in all day- this is not the right place. If you are looking for a clean bed and breakfast close to sightseeing th... Read more

The hotel has the charme of the times in the past, front desk unorganized in invoicing the tourist tax. The rooms itself are very small, individuell. Our bath had almost the same size as the room itself. The breakfast was ok, the choices could be better. The location is great only a few minutes by foot to the Vatican and the Engelsburg.

Do not expect much from this "hotel." I am not sure where they got their 4 star rating from. Our 1st room was hot and we had to move rooms because the thermostat was broken. The 2nd room was clean. The bathroom tiles had cracks, the stool in the bathroom was broken and the shower curtain had cigarettes burns. The hallways were dingy and all the carpets were faded and stained. Great location very close to the Vatican. Breakfast was not great. There was one server doing it all. The coffe, as in many Italian hotels, was u drinkable. You had to get cappuccino, and the wait was long. The desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. The king bed was really two singles put together and I spent my nights in the chasm. Nonetheless, the price matched the accommodations.

I have just returned from a five day holiday at this hotel. I was in a group of 80 people sharing a twin room. When we arrived some rooms were not ready. Our room was on the ground floor, not big enough for two beds, more like a cupboard, the air conditioning did not work, the safety deposit box would not lock. Contrary to most of the review, my stay in this hotel was quite good. I stayed for 3 nights, booked for a single bed but got upgraded to a double one. The place was clean, staff were accomodating and courteous. The buffet breakfast needs to be improve thou. Overall, location was great as it's 5-10 minutes walk to the vatican city... and 15-25 mins walk to other major sites like trevi fountain, pantheon, spanish steps etc.

When you meet the clerk at the hotel, nicknamed Corina, you already believe that this is a great place to stay. She was courteous, efficient and helpful. She helped us print our plane tickets and some reservations and gave directions in the neighborhood that actually worked. The hotel is a close walk to the Vatican and from our window we could see the lighted dome. Really great breakfast/friendly staff. A great place to stay.

Why do they have cold, boiled eggs next to the egg boiler? Would be nice to get a raw egg and boil it yourself instead of eating a cold, hardboiled egg with green yolk. The salami was old and uneatable and a couple of days we were only served old bread. The coffee was really not good, no taste of coffee at all. But the staff at the reception were very helpful and friendly, the room was good and the hotel is situated in a nice and central part of Rome.

The hotel lobby is a bit small and can be cramped if many people are waiting to check in or out all at once.
