Advertised as 'away from the hustle and bustle of Rome in a good neighbourhood' I'm pretty angry that at 11.30pm on a Thursday there was an EXCEPTIONALLY loud pool party underneath my window (arranged by the hotel and clearly NOT designed for the enjoyment of the guests) and which wasn't scheduled to finish until after 1am. If I'd wanted an 18-30s techno music party I would have looked for it specifically - I didn't and so I am deeply annoyed at this antisocial behaviour. I would suggest that i... Read more

Hotel is located near top of hill in Gianicolo. While it does show former grandeur, it currently suffers from it age and use, it provides convenience and close proximity to American University as well as American Academy in Rome. Monteverde is a peaceful community with nearby park lands and greenery. Further, Monteverde offers a wonderful selection of local restaurants (many of them offer Sicilian seafood preparations). The hotel affords a beautiful view of Rome, especially from the glass enc... Read more

The hotel is high on a hill overlooking Rome, close to the Trastevere area so pretty well located on that side of the river. The walk down into the heart of Trastevere is very nice indeed. The hotel is clean, has an elegant ground floor dining room with trompe l'oeil and stone floors, a swimming pool and a nice outside terrace connected to the bar. On the roof, there is a wraparound terrace. One needs for a short city break. The room is well appointed and comfortable, mine is a bit small but n... Read more

Clean bedroom & bathroom with zacuzzi & lots of complimentary toiletries. Great breakfast, plenty of choice with wonderful views. Cold pool, changing hut with toilet male&female (not sure how often cleaned)towels provided and plenty of sun beds. Staff very low key, not overly pro-active at selling the bar or food. Had lovely lunch one day in the covered area near pool which was lovely. A nice restaraunts close by and a bar. 15 minute walk into Trasteveri, very steep and cobbly, easy to get a ta... Read more

Perfect location for the Vatican (less than 2 miles) and centre is only 3 miles at most, bus links to all areas, rooms were clean, beds comfortable, staff friendly, pool was great, be prepared to trek up the hill if walking, good bars and restaurants locally, an enjoyable weekend, only had breakfast at hotel and was fantastic with great view but can't comment on other food options as tried a couple of local places.

It does depend what standards you are following but if you compare it with North American hotel rating it would be 3 stars the most. Location is good, but keep in mind that it is up on the hill in Gianicolo. It is only minutes from Trastevere, trendy neighberhood, with lots of restaurants and bars which is great. It is also very close once you are in Trastevere to cross the bridge to walk to any part of Rome. I didn't like that there are busy streets around hotel, so make sure you ask a room tha... Read more
