Clean bedroom & bathroom with zacuzzi & lots of complimentary toiletries. Great breakfast, plenty of choice with wonderful views. Cold pool, changing hut with toilet male&female (not sure how often cleaned)towels provided and plenty of sun beds. Staff very low key, not overly pro-active at selling the bar or food. Had lovely lunch one day in the covered area near pool which was lovely. A nice restaraunts close by and a bar. 15 minute walk into Trasteveri, very steep and cobbly, easy to get a ta... Read more

Perfect location for the Vatican (less than 2 miles) and centre is only 3 miles at most, bus links to all areas, rooms were clean, beds comfortable, staff friendly, pool was great, be prepared to trek up the hill if walking, good bars and restaurants locally, an enjoyable weekend, only had breakfast at hotel and was fantastic with great view but can't comment on other food options as tried a couple of local places.

It does depend what standards you are following but if you compare it with North American hotel rating it would be 3 stars the most. Location is good, but keep in mind that it is up on the hill in Gianicolo. It is only minutes from Trastevere, trendy neighberhood, with lots of restaurants and bars which is great. It is also very close once you are in Trastevere to cross the bridge to walk to any part of Rome. I didn't like that there are busy streets around hotel, so make sure you ask a room tha... Read more

The hotel is a bit of a hike up from the heart of Trestevere - 10 mins up a hill but in a nice area away from the busy centre across the river. The breakfast area was beautiful - you could see the Vatican and it was a nice peaceful way to start the day. We walked everywhere from the hotel (Vatican was 20 mins- Coliseum about 40 min walk). Only downside was bathrooms were a bit dated- the shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold. The rooms were nice otherwise but small. Hotel staff wer... Read more

So glad we picked this hotel up on a hill overlooking Rome. While we enjoyed sightseeing in the city we were very glad to come back to the relative quiet on the hill. It was a peaceful oasis with the lovely pool and views of Rome. Loved looking at St Peter's dome from the breakfast room. Great selection for breakfast items. Rooms were well appointed and clean. We had a nice view over the rooftops in the neighborhood. We appreciated the complimentary cold water in the room fridge. Staff were plea... Read more

Grand Hotel del Gianicolo is definitely a hotel I would recommend. The hotel is places on a kindof like a hill, which resulted a beautiful view, and a bit cleaner air I guess, that's nice right? Anyway, the breakfast was fine! Nothing to comment on there. I really did like the location as far as walking around the city every day. The hill you will walk up and down will give you a little booty workout, but the journey down is both pretty and comfortable. If you walk past a laundromat when you wal... Read more

AMAZING location and AMAZING staff! I had a set back with the hotel in Pisa but Grand Hotel Gianicolo done everything to rectify this and turned it around to make the rest of my holiday pleasant! Staff are a credit to you!

We paid ?25 only for entering the pool area. In the restaurant a small salad was at ?10, and a 0.4l beer cost ?5. But it was served in a 0.3l glass, clearly to little beer. And in the pool bar they charged us for ?5 for at 0.2l beer in a small plastic cup. We are not impressed.

Hotel is situated about 2km from centre of Trastevere and about 4km from the centre of Rome. Hotel is on top of a hill and it is quite easy of get lost coming down. I would not recommend walking back up it after a day walking around Rome. Good views of the Vatican from the breakfast room. Bar area somewhat limited and devoid of atmosphere. Pleasant gardens and a pool which we did not use. From the airport get the train to Trasvevere and then a taxi up the hill ( around 8 euros)

This hotel is located up the hill from Trastevere, but you can soon find some quick ways up and down on various steps in to the main restaurant/cafe area. The hotel is quiet and clean. Breakfast is in a very nice room on the 4th floor with excellent views across Rome and over towards the Vatican; which is a good way to start the day. The breakfast itself was pretty good and a lot more substantial than some Italian hotels. The pool is fairly large and the area around is calm with a decent bar... Read more

I am making an exception and writing about this hotel, since it was extremely nice. We were searching for a modest low budget hotel with a pool; this one exceeded our expectations. The establishment is traditionally designed, which makes the stay in it interesting on its own. However, it was very clean and meticulously tide up. There is a lot of attention to small details like a small lounge with coffee and home made cookies, or a basket filled with local soaps nicely tucked in the small bath. T... Read more

We didn't actually stay at this hotel, we only paid to use the swimming pool while on holiday as our hotel didn't have one! We paid ?25 pp for the day, which included sun loungers, towels, changing/toilet facilities. The pool was very nice & clean. It has a shallow end and deep end so is good for all the family. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We also ate here and the food was very nice and a decent size.

The hotel claims to be 4 stars, but is really a 3 star plus! The staff are great, helpful and pleasant to deal with. The pool is beautiful, and just what one needs on hot days, with a life guard on duty and a pool side bar. The food is top notch, with - as I was told - all the bread baked on the premises. I strongly recommend the pistachio and raison bread, served at breakfast and with any meal! I was in Rome to visit family - but for those who wish to be tourists, the location is great, ... Read more

A wonderful place to stay anytime from spring to fall. The hotel is located on top of the Gianicolo hill that provides you - close to the Spanish ambassadors private residence - with on of the most spectacular views over the roofs of Rome. This a place where loving couples come to and some choose to marry. The hotel has all the comfort you can expect from a italian 4* hotel, a pretty big outdoor pool and excellent food. A remarkable good breakfast is served on the top fllor with - again - a spec... Read more

This hotel has a lovely pool area ,a lovely walled garden and a beautiful breakfast room overlooking the Vatican. A taxi ride from the center of Rome.,it's away from the crowds, located in a neighborhood with lovely vistas of the city. A shopping area is 2 blocks away. The rooms are small, clean and comfortable. The staff is efficient and helpful. The breakfast, which is included, is fresh and good. No other meals are served there. There are other venues nearby. I would certainly return.
