The Gran Melia is a 5star hotel in a quiet neighborhood close to the Vatican. St. Peters can be reached in 10 minutes by foot. Service is exzellent, the rooms are very nice. Breakfast can get crowded on weekends. Unfortunately, it is very expensive. There are rooms with a view, however, windows are small since it is an old building. Thus, it is not really worthwile to pay the extra money in an already expensive setting.

Fantastic stay at this hotel nearby the Vatican, Trastevere and the old city center of Rome! Great breakfast and excellent diner restaurant. An oasis of rest nearby the swimmingpool! Friendly staff and nice room to enjoy a nice stay at the beautiful city of Rome.

Elegant and opulent! Although visiting Rome in July is not advised, the Gran Melia was worth the blistering heat. Ipecible attention to details, the presidential suite was phenomenal! It was perfect for my family of five, private gym, jacuzzi and garden terrace, huge bathroom and living quarters. The staff was blissfully talented in accommodating tours and requests at a drop of a dime. If you're ready to endulge yourself in Rome, the Gran Melia is the only place to stay.

This hotel is situated in a quiet neighborhood, yet a walking distance from attractions. It is a great venue for private functions. Overall a pleasant stay

This hotel is amazing. The location is great, very close to Vatican City - in fact, you can see Vatican City from the hotel !! The hotel is beautiful and clearly "red" is their favorite color. The staff is exceptionally attentive, the service impeccable, the food (at the breakfast buffet) is amazing - I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone visiting Rome this year. And the bathroom shower ... is FANTASTIC !!!! Where else do your bedroom slippers get laid out with a single... Read more

Just got back home after 5 days at The Gran Melia Rome. The hotel is an oasis of calm in the bustling city. 10 minutes walk to The Vatican, 10 minutes to Trastevere for bars and restaurants. We stayed in in a premium room which was quiet, well appointed with lots of storage and a feeling of luxury. The staff could not have been more courteous and helpful, the turn down service was a nice touch. A special mention needs to go to the chaps at the entrance to the hotel who always treated us politely... Read more

I have been at this hotel two times and both times have been very nice indeed. The first time i was walking here from Roma Termini Central Station. Yes it was a bit far, about 4 Km i guess. But it was nice weather and i was in no rush. Check in with a refreshing proscecco was a pleasant delight. I was told that this hotel was a former monastery and the neighborhood is quite and it's close to the Vatican and St Peters Square. Both breakfast and dinner was very good! Let's start with mention that is almost impossible to contact directly the hotel cause in the website (mobile) the only contact available is a phone number. The premium city view 509 is basically a joke for tourists: if you enjoy half roof-tops and a full view of city traffic, book this room. While having a very nice decor in every public areas, the rooms are designed as for a basic 4* hotel. The wardrobe doors are mostly noisy and not in order, Ikea feeling at is best. The hotel, the rooms, the grounds, and the restaurants were beautiful. The bed was comfortable and our room (loft) was very spacious, however, my grandparents room was quite cramped - consider this when booking as the pictures don't highlight the differences in the rooms well. The breakfast (which was included for us) was delicious and well-presented. The room service was insanely pricey, but the food truly was excellent. It was ma second time at this hotel and I must say, I like it. It is very well located (very close to the Vatican). It is modern, the decoration is beautiful and the gardens and pool magnificent. Big minus ... prices of drinks and food. It is unbelievably expensive. A club sandwich at 22 Euros, beer at 12 Euros and a glass of wine at 18 Euros. So, for a very ordinary lunch, it will cost you between 50 to 60 Euros.

Loved this hotel. It is wonderful to come back to the gardens and pool after a day of walking. They were always accommodating and the service was solid. Roberta in the red level lounge is fantastic. The location is perfect-15 min walk to Palazzo Navona, Trastevere or Prati. The rooms were comfortable and a high standard. Would definitely return.

Stayed at hotel as pet of travel group. Grounds including a pool are great especially since you are in Rome. Hotel was recently (I would guess within the last 2.5 years or less) renovated and was very nicely done. Rooms including bathrooms are quite nice as well as the common areas. Hotel had a few challenges as the shower and sink did not drain as fast as they should and there may have been a small hint of mild in the shower (a little black on the walls near the ceiling)

Our room was very nice but unfortunately located in the basement therefore dark and no good view. The reception was not very flexible with poviding us a better room. Internet didn't work properly in all areas. Good breakfast and very central and great location!

The location of this hotel in Rome is perfect to walk to St Peter's Square, the Vatican, some small shops, and nice restaurants. Our room was small (not unusual for Europe) but the bathroom was maddening! An oval shaped tub with rain shower, but not a shelf, nook, or anyplace at all to put soap, shampoo, washcloth or anything else for that matter. My daughter & I shared a room with a queen sized bed. I just returned to the Gran Melia for the second time. The hotel has developed positively and the investment made in and around the pool area have made a positive difference. The hotel's location is walking distance from the Vatican (c 10 mins) and a bit longer to the Rome City Centre (15-20 min walk). Rome is hot and last week it was 35 degrees. I loved the Gran Melia Rome. We picked this hotel due to it having an outdoor pool. It was well worth it with temperatures reaching 36. The pool area is great with waiter service, bar and restaurant for lunch. Rooms are really modern and comfortable. Only criticism would be the gym which is small with limited equipment, just one cross trainer, one running machine, a bike and weights. Location is great 5 mins from Vatican and within 30mins walk of attractions.

Stayed at the hotel with my family just recently in a short stay at Rome. The hotel is set on Villa Agrippina, an elegantly decorated villa on Gianicolo, near the Vatican. I cannot fault this hotel in any way shape or form and I have high standards with hotels . How anyone can say it's not a 5 star hotel is beyond me! The whole experience was luxurious from start to finish. We were red level guests so perhaps the experience of non red level guests may be different but wow.. Talk about being spoilt! We had access to a VIP lounge area where you could get prosecco and soft drinks and snacks ( complementary) from 12-9pm. From 7pm complementary spirits were also availa... Read more

I have very mixed views on the hotel. When we arrived, everything seemed spot on. The car was taken to be valet parked, the luggage whipped away and we were led to the Red Level Lounge (we had a kids+ room which included access) to be checked in whilst drinking prosecco. The grounds are fantastic and the room itself was lovely - a split level with 2 rooms (the children had their own room up the stairs which they loved). The room had views over the City which were amazing. But, slowly, over the t... Read more

Stayed with my Wife and Daughter at the Gran Melia for 12 Nights, all i can say is excellent service by all staff, from the bell boys to the reception to the kitchen staff. Made our stay more enjoyable and will definitely be attending again. I stayed in the Red Level Suite with a Private Garden and Jacuzzi - well worth the extra money. I would recommend anyone to visit. Staff booked all our tours and took care of everything - minimal fuss and effort from me and my family Keep up the good... Read more

This hotel's large grounds and wonderful pool make it feel more like a country resort than a city hotel. It's well located for walking everywhere and offers a shuttle to the Spanish steps. It's particularly close to the Vatican. The concierge got us tickets to the Vatican museum so after a delicious breakfast we strolled over and walked by the infamously long line. Some of the interior design and the red theme seemed a little silly, but this is a wonderful place to enjoy Rome from--or just r... Read more

We stayed here for 3 nights at end of August at the beginning of our Italy trip . The hotel is a recently converted villa ( only 3 years old) with gardens , pool and close to the Vatican and Travestere . Located in an ideal spot very close to the vatican and you can walk to many of the other sites. A fabulous outside pool for relaxing after a busy day walking around Rome. Relaxing jazz music is played, comfy sunloungers and a towel service. Be prepared though 12 euros for a small beer and 7 euros for an icecream- this is total disgrace as even in the main piazzas you are only charged 2/3 euros. we had a red level urban suite for two adults two children. My wife and I stayed at the Gran Melia for 2 nights our our way through Rome. We had just finished a beautiful vacation on the Amalfi Coast and decided to finish our trip at a nice hotel in Rome. The hotel property is absolutely beautiful. We were a little worried as our taxi driver took us on wild Italian taxi adventure, rounded the corner by the Rome bus station - and then pulled into a beautiful courtyard. There are few hotels in central Rome that are truly top quality with pool and spa facilities. Typically you'll pay a lot of money for a central location or stay a few km outside the city to get the facilities with the obvious disadvantage of needing to take travel time out of your day. The Gran Melia is over the road from the Vatican and the Tiber. It's a fabulous location. It has a spa and an outside pool, and the rooms are modern and high quality. It's well worth the room rate.

I loved the outdoor and public spaces of the hotel. It has two excellent restaurants and a luxurious pool area and patio - great for outdoor drinks. The rooms are very updated, but small. The baths are somewhat funky, huge round tubs with rainfall showers. Good service although the concierge was not able to get some tours we wanted, but we booked them easily online in about 15 min. Hotel seems committed to a single tour agency for tickets. Restaurant recommendations were very good.

We had a phenomenal stay at this hotel. Everything was clean and beautifully appointed. The staff was friendly and spoke English and there were sweet little treats around every corner - like a Nespresso in the room, chocolates on our pillow, and slippers left for us on the floor each night. I absolutely can't wait to go back.

The food was delectable, and there were two different restaurants which were both amazing. Service was great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is also close to everything. First and foremost, the hotel has excellent staff! They will help where ever they can. Spa is very good and the lady who does hair did a very good job as well. Location is perfect. Beautiful grounds and a lovely hotel in the center of Rome. Super convenient to Vatican City. The public spaces are very well designed and modern. The room was quite nice with a partial view of St Peters. The bed was very, very firm. The gym is on the small side, but it was fine for getting things started. The breakfast buffet is modest, but with many nice items. The service was great and everyone was friendly and helpful. We will stay here again without a question.
