Close to Portofino, the Excelsior Palace provided an excellent accomodation for our honeymoon. While not in Portofino, the nearby town is a nice short walk away, and the drive to Santa Margarite & Portofino is very feasible and pleasant (you can walk or bike but beware of curves and no lane). The hotel served as a very good base and value: Pros: accommodating staff excellent brunch classic feeling of grand hotel Cons: small rooms

Extremely professional staffs and service, great breakfast selections, room I stayed was spacious and quiet, bed sheet was crispy and clean, yet towels were so soft and comfortable. Though I did not get the room which was on the side of the ocean, the view was regardless fantastic!!! One of my colleagues stayed at the room with the ocean view, it was breathtaking... Beautiful and elegant hotel! On our arrival, we had a lovely surprise of getting an upgrade to a lovely room with a sea view. The service was exceptional and the staff very friendly. We loved the outside pool overlooking the sea. Stunning! The only downside was the steep ramp uphill to reach the hotel's main entrance. Exhausting!

Stayed with partner for 4 nights. Had a great room, very spacious with a super comfy bed. The room overlooked the harbour and promenade which was a very pleasant sight to wake up to (especially as they have motorised blinds that can be operated from bed!). Good choice at breakfast with fresh bacon, sausage & egg (scambled) OR if preferred there was a more local feel with a continental approach - did both and wasn't disappointed. Now for the pool area - you really need to see the view to believe... Read more

Its a Typical classic hotel that is going through a make over . Classic style Reception, Classic lounges, Classic rooms. Its quite a walk to navigate this hotel. To reach the Sea side building there is two lifts and a walk way over the coast road. When you get there , there is a heated pool and a few different levels , which to be honest are not particularly welcoming. Yes the sea and rocks are very inviting but the chairs are close together with little room for manoeuvre. All in all a bit dis... Read more

We had booked a superior room and hoped that we had a balcony and sea view. Our request was granted the view was fabulous. We had a complimentary bottle of limoncello in the room and every night a bottle of water each at turn down - all nice touches. I have just returned from a seven night stay at the Excelsior with my wife and two grown up sons. The hotel is lovely with exquisite furnishings throughout and a great poolside area.. Rooms are not big but comfortable and well appointed. Tea making facilities would be appreciated and the use of an iron and ironing board would have been welcome, however this is fairly typical of a 5 star hotel. What makes the hotel so good is its staff, who without fail, were welcoming, friendly and efficient. We... Read more

The view from our room overlooking the harbor was spectacular! Service was truly great as they made sure you were happy and comfortable at all times. Laura at the front desk definitely went the extra mile. We ate at both the restaurants. Eden Roc had the views and sound of crushing waves hitting the rocks. This hotel is even better than we experienced in 2014. We had a lovely 3rd floor room for 7 nights, with floral balcony which was cool in the evening as the sun moved. We recognised many of the staff from Head Waiter Antonio to the charming Oreste who runs the Yachting Bar. Their welcome was effusive and genuine. Well maintained, it is a most happy place to stay. Stayed in the Excelsior for 4 nights. It's in a nice location with good views (although Rapallo is a little run down). Whilst it does have an air of old world refinement - with lots of artwork on the walls, antique furniture, and well dressed staff - a lot of the decor is tired and in need of refurbishment. The carpets are very worn, and the walls are stained. For a big hotel it was also a bit quiet and lacked atmosphere. Little touches like music by the pool would have helped create a nicer ... Had the chance to stay for 5 nights at the Excelsior Palace hotel. I do agree with many reviewers who mentioned about the worn-out condition of the hotel. The property is in dire need of refurbishing from carpets to elevators to furniture etc. I understand their need to maintain a certain historical aura of the hotel but dirty and puckered carpets should not be part of it. The air-conditioning system has seen better days and is in dire need for an upgrade to deal with the summer heat! That ... Read more

The stay in the hotel has been great, a 5 star hotel in one of the best Italian spots... But no more than this. This hotel is giving what is expected and does not excel in customer orientation. To give an example, to access the sea you have to go through the swimming pool and the beach restaurant. Just the day we were there, the restaurant was closed and the swimming pool too (it was 19:05 and it closes at 19). It was impossible that someone could open this access. Great rooms, fantastic views from the dining room, and a wonderful place to hang out and quietly have a drink while undisturbed except for an attentive bar person who makes sure that your needs are cared for. Got a good rate on this hotel through hotel website ...problem was I had to put hotel feet to the fire to have hotel make good on the offer...I loved the hotel and location but noted that they nickel and dimed other people too. Another guest out of the blue complained to me about a meal charge. Then I heard another guest at checkout loudly requesting that she not be charged for another night at the hotel because she would be leaving earlier.....

We had one evening in Rapallo and stayed here. This a beautiful old hotel situated right by marina, shopping district and beach. We have never had better service. Everyone was attentive and quick. The view from our balcony was gorgeous. They had a wonderful bar with old world charm and the restaurant was perfect with delicious food and excellent service! Highly recommend this hotel. It's like taking a step back in time to where the world was more elegant and genteel.

We did not stay at the hotel. We rented a villa that offered us the option of swimming at the Excelsior for 20euro a person. We were 2 couples in our mid-50s. For the price of 80 euro we got 1 umbrella, 2 lounge chairs, 1 side chair, and 4 towels. We also had the use of 2 infinity pools, one that we lovingly refer to as the bubble pool. The pool had built in seats with jets for massages, three waterfalls for neck and shoulder massage, bench seating with jets for foot massage and corner jets ... Read more

Dined in their restaurant 1st night (10 % off) Set meal at 60.00 euros was not worth it. Served with a chipped wine glass at evening meal, Stained blood on a pillow case, Served with a cracked coffee cup at breakfast next morning (coffee seeped out of the crack). Ordered a taxi and suitcases to be collected (floor 7) for 07:45. taxi arrived but no cases. Had to ask again for them to be collected. Taxi driver charge an extra 2.50 euros for waiting. No what you would expect from a 5 star hotel

Opulent hotel oozes quality fully deserving of all its stars and accolades. Our suite on the 6th floor was everything that you expect and more with a wrap around balcony with jacuzzi, fine views of the harbour and the coastline. Buffet breakfast on the terrace of the Lord Byron was satisfactory but dinner in the same restaurant was spectacular. Only a 15 minute stroll to the centre of Rapallo although your stride would be shortened on the return.
