We enjoyed our stay here. the funiculaire is close for two different areas of town. the front desk staff was helpful and protective when it came to getting us a cab. the view was spectacular from our room and the restaurant. The room was spacious. I like the historic aspect of the property. Cotton sheets! Good WiFi. The restaurant had surprisingly good food. We were not expecting much. The jacuzzi tub/shower in the room was unexpected and very nice. Right below the Certosa San Martino site. a mu... Read more

My husband and I and another couple came to Naples for a few days, basically because we wanted to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum. We got a taxi at night and could not really see how marvellous was the location of the hotel. However, when we got to our room, which overlooked the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, we were amazed and delighted. We chose a room with roof terrace. I believe that these rooms are smaller than some of the others but we really wanted a decent sized terrace and that is what ... Read more

This hotel is in the unic building - the old monastery, you can find in it old Fresca and mosaics. The hotel lockated not so close to the historical center (20 min by feet) that is why here is quiet. The best is a beautiful view from the rooms on the sea, town and Vesuvio. The same view from the restaurant Terrasa, where is breakfast. The rooms are big enough, clean and cosy. The only problem is old equipment in the bathroom. Breakfast is quite good, and stuff is very helpful.

Hotel in nice quiet, safe area of Naples away from the hustle and bustle yet accessible to all sites. Rooms lovely with a restaurant and terrace that have the most magnificent views of Naples. Don't miss dinner at the hotel restaurant. - excellent food and an unbeatable view / atmosphere.

My daughter and I loved our stay in this very special hotel with the best view possible of the Bay of Naples. We had drinks in the roof top garden, dinner in the restaurant and chilled on our balcony with a bottle of wine. It was perfect!!

Despite the beautiful views from the terrace on the top this is a very poorly run hotel with cheap, albeit painted, furniture and an overworked inadequate workforce. After finding the bath panel was falling off and the toilet seat was very loose, plaster falling off the wall and a curtain off its rail I asked to speak to the manager. This was supposed to be a 25th wedding anniversary celebration! But over the course of two days no manager (or indeed the owner who is one and the same) could b... Read more

This was my second stay at Hotel San Francesco al Monte and myself and my partner still say is our favourite hotel ever. The rooms are beautiful- very spacious and clean with comfy beds and stunning views. The restaurant is amazing, and you can sit and enjoy your meal looking over the bay of Naples which was very romantic and th... Read more

My family and I stayed at The San Francisco for 4 nights this June. It's a wonderful hotel set above Naples city centre. Both our rooms had spectacular views over the city and The Bay of Naples ( and I think all rooms have the same great sea view). And the restaurant terrace and roof top pool area shared this fabulous aspect. A perfect relaxing location, close to the city centre but above the teeming hubbub of this extra-ordinary city. It has a low key elegance typical of Italy and the staff we... Read more

I stayed 3 nights in this wonderful hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. This really made a difference since I was on my own. The rooftop pool is fantastic and the Ristorante La Terrazza Dei Barbanti on the 4th floor was very special. The views are fabulous and the food delicious. I ate seafood there all 3 nights. My room was on the 1st floor and the traffic noisy if you opened the window. It didn't bother me, but if you are sensitive to this, request a higher floor. ... Read more

The staff were all friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was also very good. The pool was beautiful but very chilly. The hotel sits high above the old town and has a fantastic view of the city and Vesuvius. The room we had was a little tired and could have done with a bit of updating. The bed was really comfortable and the whole room was clean. The restaurant has a limited choice of food and is rather pricey but the views are amazing. Breakfast was very good. Visit June 2016. Old monastery perched in the hills behind the city of Naples. stunning view of the bay, Vesuvius, Sorrento and Capri from restaurant patio and pool deck. Rooms clean but a little small, breakfast was good but dishes and glasses could have been a little cleaner. Service just OK. Easy access to town Center using Funiculars within a few hundred meters. Naples as a city was vibrant and safe. Don't let the rumours scare you away! Wonderful surprise.

I feel we were so fortunate to land in this hotel, our Italian friend, (my daughter and I were traveling with) booked it the same day we arrived in Naples. Stunning views, great service and the rooms (a junior suites) was perfect. This hotel is a bit out of town but enjoyed the hike to get to town and restaurants. The pool area is lovely with a great view of the city. The negatives are the pool closes at 5:00 every day because the have weddings and events each night. They should say that on the website. Also the loop of ABBA music gets tiring each morning at breakfast. The breakfast is nice and it is so easy to have a longer playlist. This hotel definitely has a gorgeous view and pool area. Sadly, the pool is only open until 5 which makes no sense to me because it would be nice to relax there after a day of touring. Food and drinks are available by the pool. It's very posh. The rooms and breakfast were good. The common areas are pretty and historical, an old convent. This charming hotel has a superb location on one of the hills of Napoli, with astonishing panoramic views over the city, the bay and the Vesuvius. The view from the rooms, the restaurant/ bar, and the rooftop pool area, of Vesuvius and the bay of Naples, is sensational! The hotel being an old monastery was fascinating! We stayed here three years ago and loved it so decided to stay again with our 2 teenage children. It is still a great hotel but needs some updating. We had a lovely room with a terrace but the air conditioner was very noisy and completely inadequate for the size of room. Breakfast is good with a gorgeous view. The roof terrace and pool are also stunning (but they shut for private functions from 5 so kiss goodbye to the view / sunset as summer is wedding season) The room was on the small side and quite dark. The area is edgy and fun to explore. The staff were pleasant but not as helpful and informative as we would have liked (luckily we have lonely planet). San Francesco al Monte is an interesting converted monastery with amazing views of Mt Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples from the bedrooms.
