Strange hotel. Couldn't turn off the heating,or turn on the air con. Cdn't open the windows as the catches were gimracky. Way out of town, but nothing to do when you get there. Only hotel I've ever stayed in with sliding doors to bathroom. We were there because we went in a group, but it gave us no feel for Matera at all

The hotel itself was fine with reasonably sized rooms and good standards of cleanliness. The main drawback is that it is a good way (25 euro each way in a taxi) from the town so you either need to have a car or eat in the hotel. According to other guests the evening meals were not particularly good. Nice extensive grounds for an evening stroll. Smells of tobacco a bit because guests use the area between the inner and outer doors to smoke and each time the doors open and close they pump smoke int... Read more

It started badly. The key didn't work so a walk back to the desk. A member of the staff came with me, clearly thinking this man is incompetent, and the lock failed. So a change of room. Later went for a drink at the bar. 2 bar staff did their best to ignore me but persistence won out and I got a drink.Food was very good so that is the one star.We stayed 2 nights. On the second day I failed to get a drink and my door key went temperamental again. I just don't think the staff cared.

Having read a lot of negative reviews about the hotel, I was a little apprehensive about staying at here. It is a way out of Matera, but we found the hotel to be very pleasant. We had a large room which was very well equipped, including tea and coffee facilities. It was very clean, no unpleasant smells at all and a very comfortable bed and pillows. In fact the best nights sleep during our trip to Puglia. Breakfast was also very good with a pleasant dining room.

Hilton Garden Hotel Matera is situated 7 kms outside Matera. It sits in extensive gardens so is ideal if you want to just relax and chill out with no distractions There was tea making facilities in the room but no TV or radio. There a large outside swimming pool and an indoor one available at no extra cost. The self service breakfast had a choice of hot and cold food. The restaurant was on the lower floor and the bar, which had no atmosphere, was at the edge of the restaurant with easy ac... Read more

This is a second-rate conference centre in the middle of nowhere. We were with Riviera tour group. Our room was adequate but certainly no frills. We were on the ground floor and couldn't use the patio, even if the weather had been nice, because it was covered in bird poop. This patio needed a really good clean! Breakfast and evening meal were adequate but certainly nothing to get excited about. Unfortunately, on our "free" afternoon, it poured with rain and nothing to do in the area. If t... Read more

Excellent hotel large reception and large resident lounge and bar. The hotel has 2 dining rooms plus extra centre for large occasions such as weddings etc. The bedroom was quiet large with balcony, TV, mini bar, and there was also a bidet in the bathroom which was well equiped

Travelled to this hotel as one of three hotels on a Riviera Tour. I had wondered about this hotel having read some of the reviews. Our room was of a good standard quality and the bathroom was fine although the Hilton in Lecce has a swankier bathroom. The TV was temperamental to get started but was fine when it was on. The set menu dinner for the tour guests was acceptable, I've had worse.mthe buffet breakfast had a good selection. Enjoyed the bar and lounge area, it was quite attractive and mo... Read more

The hotel communal areas are light and spacious which is in contrast to the bedrooms which are dark and depressing. Strangely furnished and Hilton should follow local custom realise that in hot climates carpets are just not on. They make bedrooms stuffy and smell musty, go with the locals and use bright, clean tiles. Breakfast was sparse in choice and thank goodness we went out for dinner. Be warned this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, a good 15 minutes from town, so no chance to potter aro... Read more

Having just visited the Hilton in Lecce it was interesting to compare the two hotels. The bedroom was much smaller but adequate and clean. The advantage here is the very large indoor pool, sauna and steam room which we made use of and were the only ones in the pool. There is also a large outdoor pool in lovely grounds which wasn't yet open for the Summer. The bar and restaurant area are large and impressive but as we were part of a group ate in a function room and our meal was poor, a special me... Read more

This is a new building and we learned that the Hilton Garden chain are "out of town". Everything is there for you but it is somewhat "sterile" The outside pool was open with extensive grounds - this was great as there was lots of sunshine. However we were very very disappointed as we were not allowed around the pool area on our second day because of weddings. There was lots of room and we could easily have done some sunbathing - definitely made to feel second class. As everyone has said - do not... Read more

Having read some negative reviews of this hotel on this site, I was pleasantly surprised. My bedroom was spacious, had a massive walk in showers (perhaps it was meant to be a room for disabled guests?) well furnished, clean with excellent lighting. There was also a small terrace overlooking the gardens. All staff were very friendly and helpful. A faulty light bulb was changed within 10 minutes of me reporting it to the receptionist. Breakfast was ample but it would have been more pleasant if ... Read more

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and everything was perfect. The room was pretty large and clean and so was the toilet. WiFi was very fast and login was quick. The breakfast was great, everyday the offered different hot food (bacon and scrambled egg). We asked for an upper floor and they gave us what we asked for. A great choice.

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Matera in July 2016. I was originally booked to stay two nights but reduced this to one following the staff service and price to use the pools. It was nice enough but not worth it for me to stay the two nights.

The hotel is set in countryside close to a motorway and about 5K out of Matera. It is a modern business hotel with comfortable rooms, with all facilities. We eat in the restaurant on one evening and had a pleasant meal.

There was wifi thought quite slow. Toilets are positioned so you have to sit sideways or your legs are under the sink. Workout room had no ac, no towels and lousy machines. Maybe it's just what you get in Italy but for a "Hilton" you would think some basis things like TV would work. It's probably the nicest hotel in the area but it still could have been better.

Hotel service is amazing - from check in to room service to hotel restaurant (what is absolutely recommendable)! SPA as such is great but SPA service sucks! You even have to pay for towels for the pool/SPA!

The Hotel is 8km out of the town in a very quiet location. The grounds are superb with an outdoor swimming pool, although this was closed when we were there, they also have an indoor pool and spa, this very clean. Outside there is a natural pool with ducks, plenty of out door seating area. The rooms are clean, but twin-bedded rooms were not available, however our room although a non-smoking room did smell smokey, no signs of cigarettes.

On arrival I was repulsed by a horrible smell when entering our room, I said to my husband I can't stay in this room, I'll be sick ( it smelt like B.O.) I went to reception to ask for another room and luckily our wonderful tour guide Paula was there to help me. They took me to see another room (4th floor overlooking pool) which still had an unpleasant smell but not as bad so I had to accept it. The corridors are dismal with ugly dark brown columns all the way along - who designed that! The lobb... Read more

To start this hotel is immaculate. I loved my room 404. Modern design comfortable bed, nice bathroom and hairdryer. I was told my other guests that the pool was excellent. Wifi kept dropping in my room and so did TV signal. Holidays are not about watching TV so no problem. What disappointed me was the poor evening meal. Nothing fresh all catering or frozen packs. The wine in half bottles was poor too. Breakfast was much better. Come on Hilton you have a very nice hotel don't ruin it by the cate... Read more

We spent three nights here for a conference and I will say that the food served to our group was really good. The wine sommelier also did a fantastic job on coordinating a wine tasting for over 35 people in our party. Now there were a few things I did not like about the hotel: (1) It was really very hard to communicate with the staff as many did not speak very good English and I had to get an interpreter to get someone to come out to the poolside and open up the umbrellas as they were impossible... Room smelt of B.O., standard bed in a standard room. Stayed 2 nights and dinner was very average. Breakfast was not worth mentioning with only croissants and coffee on offer. Maybe the time of year we stayed but it really needs to lose the "Hilton" brand as certainly sub standard. Would not stay here again.

The hotel is located some distance from Matera and mainly caters for tour groups that are visiting Matera. Our room was quite satisfactory, clean and comfortable if a little small. We didn't eat in the restaurant so I cannot comment, breakfast was more than ample with selection of cereals, cold meats, cheeses, pastries and scrambled eggs and bacon. Lovely bedroom on 1st floor. Evening reception staff pleasant and helpful. Beautiful gardens to walk round or sit in. Outdoor pool closed when we stayed. My evening meal was ok but 2 ladies had undercooked fish however they didn't tell the staff. Overall we thought the hotel fine. Only downside it is a way out of town but we were on a coach so no problem for us.

This hotel is outside Matera, but if you have your own car, yiou can avoid the heart of this city by staying in the Hilton Garden. The hotel is modern and clean' the rooms are spacious and the mattress comfortable, but they use very strong materials for the carpet cleaning, which might be unpleasant . The pool and SPA are wonderful. The restaurant (which you need to use, since there are no other restaurants in this area) has good dishes with fair (but not cheap) prices. We were pleasantly surprised with the high quality hotel as we entered the parking lot. Impressive lobby and overall appearance of the grounds and building. The indoor pool was resort-like in appearance. The room was large and roomy and even had a walk-in closet. Very unusual and unexpected for a 4-star European hotel.

This would have been a solid three stars but for the staff's inability to deal with an issue we had. First off the hotel is miles from anywhere...and I don't mean lovely rural location. It is set in a litter strewn tract of land surrounded by busy (but not noisy) roads. I would not recommend an evening stroll. Breakfast was really poor for a four star hotel. They ran out of a lot of things which weren't replaced...fruit, eggs, tea etc. The indoor pool and spa are really nice but mad inhospitab... Read more

We visited this hotel for two nights as part of a Riviera Tours organised group touring Puglia. First impressions count a lot and we were a bit surprised by the isolation of the hotel which isn't within walking distance of anything and upon entry to the modern styled building we made our way up to our room on a higher floor using lifts (one of which was out of action) some of which were accessed beyond a fire door - a somewhat calamitous scenario with people trying to drag their suitcases throu... Some good points but in view it's a business trip, when the wifi was not working they were not very urgent about rectifying the problem and shrugged the issue off as if it wasn't there. This hotel is way outside Matera, but that's fine if you have a car - in exchange you get plenty of space unless you are in a basic room which is small and dark, not really what you expect from Hilton. The upper level rooms are much more spacious, but still dull and dated. No problems parking and the common areas are vast, so vast you will find it hard to spot a staff member. The restaurant offers a good menu, well cooked and served, but is under-staffed. We had to ask several times for the chec... Read more
