The Dei Gonzaga is located between two attractive medieval squares in an excellent location in this attractive and unspoiled city. Our room was simple but quite roomy, comfortable and most adequate in all respects. Luxury, it is not, but its situation is exceptional. Decent breakfasts and very friendly helpful staff.

Spent 5 nights here in march - it's a great location as a tourist. Here's the pros and cons: Very reasonable cost, location couldn't be better, free basic breakfast, good and free wifi connection ( just need to get new password daily from reception) good shower, very clean, small fridge in room, lift to rooms, friendly staff, lovely view from bedroom window onto main square, restaurant on site, very near to loads of cafés / restaurants / shops - only minutes away from the hotel. This is very much a no frills hotel. That said, most people visiting Mantua and the environs, will be out and about for a large part of the day. Breakfast adequate with the wonderful coffee freshly made to order by very well organised friendly staff. The bedrooms at the front overlooking the square have a view which is magical and couldn't be bettered in a city. Therefore this makes up for slightly uncomfortable beds and a rather basic but functioning bathroom. The main problem I had was with th... Read more

The staff were rude, or bored, or both: on arrival the three staff members who were behind the reception desk paid us not the slightest attention for several minutes (only one was dealing with a new arrival); their manner when we checked in was to say the least perfunctory, and the information given was minimal. Was there a hint of a smile anywhere? No. Was there the slightest human warmth? No. ??Your key.?? On the table nearby was a small card with ??Welcome Drink??, beside a stack of flims... Read more

Probably the best thing about the hotel is its terrific location, right in the heart of the city. We found the staff to be quite welcoming - most of the time. Not all of them spoke English, but that wasn't a problem, and we were the foreigners, after all. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. Even with the market opening outside in the morning, it was pretty quiet and we all had a good night's sleep. If you're hungry and thirsty, there is always a plate of homebaked cookies ( a local specialty... Read more

The location is great -- right on a main square and in the heart of the city. The good news: the room had a great view! But...The bad news: the room did not have proper curtains or a shade so the great view was visible all night and it meant a very early awakening with the sunrise! The room was very poorly designed and uncomfortable. No climate control, though the window could open, but not having a proper blind is pretty shocking. The hotel was fine, but not particularly nice for the price. P... Read more

This hotel is located on a wonderful old piazza next to the Palazzo Ducale, which is why I booked it. When we arrived, we were not greeted or welcomed, just a quick demand for our passports. The wifi is spotty, they give you a breakfast "card" you must bring with you in the morning, and the rooms are bare bones at best. On our first morning, after giving the breakfast waitress our cards, we were questioned by the manager as if we had just wandered in off the streets to steal their lukewarm co... Read more

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Hotel dei Gonzaga and loved it. The staff were friendly and efficient, the room was clean and comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We were glad to have chosen a room with a view of the beautiful Piazza Sordello. We strongly recommend this hotel. (Wifi was sometimes slow. We're not complaining, but mention this information for the benefit of future guests.)

We stayed in an annex about 50yds from the hotel called academia. Great room, staff good and you are in the heart of the city with all the wonderful things on offer. Booked one night but had to have another to soak up the atmosphere and take in the history.
