Husband and I, we made holidays in august 2016 in Firenze and stayd at hotel Martelli in an economy room on the 3-rd floor. Everything in the hotel is fiorentino and I was glad to see small things which are important . The ceiling of the room was fiorentino with a glass chandelier, the real parkett wooden floor in perfect shape, smooth and not the smallest sound , unbelievable good mounted. Part of the furniture is new in this room , together it suits very good. The doors were painted alla toscana. The bathroom was big enaugh and everything was on the right place . Our room 55 had allso a small terrace with green plants and a table. The hotel is worth to be explored in detail because of the constructive interesting details. Florence is Michelangelo and Leonardo , you will find a little bit of each allso in the arhitecture of this hotel. I had a big surprise to see from the backstreet that our bathroom was actually a passage between two buildings ( I think so, please if i am wrong correct this). Of course in the bathroom you don't notice this . That passage you can find allso in a wooden city model at the Accademia Gallery .
The air condition was functioning in the room, just set the buttons in the right position, you can start and stop it . It did not try to regulate temperature, because start and stop was enaugh. It is a central- cooling or heating in the building, in the center of Firenze you won't find air condition modules windows-mounted because the buildings would not be authentic any more.
About the people in the hotel, when you interact with any person, you walk in front of a mirror, so you decide what you will see, nice and friendy or sad and angry. I enjoyd leaving the key at the reception, where the Lady answered every day with a new italian expression .
During 1 week the hotel was absolutely full and maybe this is the reason why the breakfast room seemed a little small. Because i am used to the german breakfast I can not tell sincerely that i liked the breakfast, but the italian, french and spanish tourists were content, so it is probably a very good italian breakfast.
On the table in our room there was a hot water boiler so I could make a coffee ( not filter-coffee, just instant or elenikos ) before breakfast.
Attention with the italian electrical connection: there are 3 pins in line .
The best thing to do is to bring with you an adapter + a 3-stecker cable . In our room there was only 1 electrical connection, but we had a 3-stecker and used the adapter from the hot water boiler.
Internet was functioning well, allso from te room, ask for username and password .
As Firenze is not only Uffizzi and Galleria Museum, but an open air museum , the hotel is a perfect place to start any visit: 3 min walk to Santa Maria del Fiore ( Dome) , 3 Min San Lorenzo and Medici Chappels, 5 Min to Santa Maria Novella Church and allso 5 Min to Santa Maria Novella Station ( Bus to Airport, Train Station), 10 min San Marco Church -Fra Angelico. Not more than 10 min to Ponte Vechhio or Ponte Santa Trinita.
Around the hotel there are many small and big restaurants, etc .There are allso 2 quite big Conad Supermarket every day open each 3 min walk .
The arrival from airport is simple, by taxi or with bus 6 E/pers/direction , nonstop from airport to Santa Maria Novella Train Station ca 30 min, than 5-10 min walk depending on your luggage. Without luggage max 5 minutes.
If you plan the visit in august you should buy your tickets online with program and respect the scheduled entrance time. There are huge waiting lines everywhere.
My husband said Firenze is a kind of disneyland for grown up people, enjoy .
