The hotel is in a perfect position overlooking a small harbour encircled by cafes and restaurants. It's in the centre of the old town close to the boat terminal and an easy fifteen minute walk from the train station. We requested a room with a balcony overlooking the water and it was perfect. The room was small but very clean and balcony area compensated for the size. Wifi was free but unpredictable. Breakfast was excellent with a good variety. There was also a large terrace area for general u... Read more

This has been our second year staying at this hotel with Alberto and his family.Upon arrival we were greeted with a very warm welcome. Our room was overlooking the old harbour so it couldn't have been more perfect. A superb view to see first thing every day. All amenities are within walking distance and the ferry boat to take you across the lake is just around the corner. There is always something happening locally which is all part of the charm of Dezensano. Chow Alberto, from Catherine and R... Read more

Just returned, booked with Thomson's ( excellent, Holiday Advisor first class ) the rooms are small and a bit in need of a upgrade, or a coat of paint. Thomson's rooms are at the back so forget the view. if you need to stay in touch with the World you will find the Wi-Fi hopeless. café Cristalo across the way has good Wi-Fi. Breakfast average, for an Italian Hotel the coffee is awful , luckily there are good cafes on hand with excellent coffee. The upside is that Piroscafo has the best locatio... Read more

Firstly, the positives. The location is absolutely perfect, both in the town itself & on the lake in general (easy access to Verona, Milan etc by train & a 2 minute walk to the ferry stop). A balcony at the front is essential, the view is superb & to watch the bustling harbour in the afternoons & evenings made our holiday complete! It can be a little noisy, but the windows are double glazed, if you go to bed before it settles down. Also, Anna on reception was very helpful re outings & informatio... Read more

Stayed here in May 2016 on a package holiday with Inghams. The room we were allocated was a double with a shared balcony/terrace overlooking the old harbour that was delightful. The room was comparatively small but then how much time does one spend in a hotel room on holiday? Decoration and fittings are a bit 1980's. The staff at the hotel are very hospitable and friendly. Breakfast, though only continental, was excellent with loads of choice. We would certainly use the hotel again

The Hotel Piroscafo is in an enviable position, right next to the old harbour in Desenzano and close to the lakeside and boat terminal. We requested a room near to the lift and that's what we got - the room could not have been closer. The lift is minute taking no more than 4 people without luggage, and the alternative staircase to the first floor is circular and for us old wrinklies, OK for going up but scary for going down. As others have commented, our first floor room was on the small... Read more

My daughter stayed at this hotel for 1 week booked through Expedia online and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this small but very friendly hotel. The location couldn't have been better, in the centre of Desenzano right by the old harbour, just beautiful to look at any time, morning or evening from our small but adequate balcony overlooking all the rustle and bustle in the square and harbour below. Others have reviewed this hotel and said the noise outside is a problem but I did not find this.... Read more

Last visited here June 2013. Always a concern when you revisit a place that has excellent memories - no need to worry as we were not disappointed at all. The standards were the same as before, perhaps a bit higher with the refurbishment. The Owner/Manager and all the staff are helpful and friendly. The Hotel location is unbeatable in Desenzano.- right in the center and right on the Ancient Harbour. The view from a Harbour View Room is sensational also with views of the Lake. This hotel is situated in a perfect location, I so enjoyed my breakfast in the morning sitting on the side of the harbour and there are many shops, restaraunts and bars nearby. The room was small but comfortable and being at the back very quiet, we didnt have the lovely view you get from the front rooms, but there is always the terrace to sit out on. The staff were friendly and helpful, myself and my son had a fantastic time in Desenzano and will recomend the hotel to all our friends and family.

We stayed in the Hotel Piroscafo for two nights whilst we were exploring the south of Lake Garda and it is a perfect spot! The hotel is right on the harbour front and it was lovely enjoying breakfast looking out at this pretty scene. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful and our room was spacious and modern. The hotel has a lovely balcony terrace over looking the harbour where you can relax in the day. If you are looking to stay in the south or Desenzano we would highly recommend this h... Read more

Hairdryer, towels and toiletries included. Safe and tea/coffee making facilities. We had room 4 which has access to the communal terrace, but after 8pm the terrace is closed and rooms 3 & 4 have exclusive access. Location is perfect with a nice view directly to a small bay area with bay surrounded by restaurants. Parking around 500 m away in a indoor garage for a reasonable fee. Breakfast was disaster. Cheese was sweating, the ham smelled sour, the milk was warm and the coffee of poor taste.

My Husband and I spent seven nights at the Hotel Piroscafo on a return visit. We had previously stayed at this hotel in 2012 and, therefore, requested the same room on the 3rd Floor which was in a quiet part of the hotel. The staff were very happy to please and we were once again in Room 31. Both the room and bathroom had been modernised since our last visit and were kept spotlessly clean by the hotel staff. The breakfast buffet (served from 07.00 to 10.00) consisted of a choice of cereals, cro... Read more

Although I didn't stay at the Hotel Piroscafo, I visited the cafe bar there several times to enjoy an Aperol Spritz aperitif overlooking the old harbour in the evening sun. They served an excellent assortment of nibbles (pizza, potato chips and olives) with the aperitif. I found it the best value in Desenzano. Thoroughly recommended.

What a great place to stay, right in the middle of Desenzano, great views, two minute tops to the Lake, great restaurants all around. Good strolling area. Clean and tidy. Not modern. Quietly helpful staff. Not expensive. If you are not after flash then this is the best in town.

The pictures are deceiving! The room was tiny, it smelt damp, it was full of Nat's and other bugs. And was very noisy. We booked one night here and hated it that much we checked out didn't even stay the night and drove up to our next destination and paid for a hotel there. Wouldn't recommend.

*** My comment only concerns the café *** The welcome was warm. So, alas, was the beer. Apologies were offered (but I still had to pay for it, I suppose - the issue didn't come up, t didn't object). The excuse offered was the warm weather. Well, this is Italy in August - the weather was hardly a surprise! Secondly, it's precisely when it's hot outside that one (this one, at least) wants a beer. AN EASY PROBLEM TO FIX, so this comment may be out of date by next week!

Fabulous view of the little boat harbour from our balcony, to sit and watch the local activity. Convenient location to the ferry terminal and a beautiful village to stay in. Staff were very accommodating, allowing us early check in and arranging taxi to station. Rooms are very small, but for location and value it is excellent. We had a great time and caught the ferry to nearly all stops around the lake and the cable car at Malcesine is a must.

Recommend getting a room with a balcony to savour the local harbour area. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were small as was shower, but if you're not planning on spending long in the room this hotel is perfect. Breakfast was okay, usual continental. Meats and cheese not refrigerated. Would recommend the hotel.

After 3 nights in Venice we were more than ready for some relaxation and boy we got it. We chose to transfer by train which was so easy and a really good experience. Desenzano is the most picturesque resort you can imagine at the very south end of the lake with the marina and the old port which is overlooked by the Pirascafo Hotel. In the hub of the restraunts and bars and yet peaceful and friendly. Although we had a room at the rear with no balcony we found this no problem as there was a small ... Read more

We are a couple in our 60s and well traveled. Hotel Piroscafo has a unique location at the foot of Lake Garda. NO ON SITE PARKING. Drive up to the hotel, dash inside to get a permit to place on your dashboard while you go back inside to register. Study up on a satellite view of maps to get familiar before you go. It will be 5 minutes well spent. Parking is nearby (perhaps a 5-7 minute walk) and done on a contractual basis. 9 Euros (August 2016) with unlimited in/out and underground/covered... Read more

This was our 2nd visit to the Hotel Piroscafo and we weren't dissappointed. We stayed in room 20 which we found to suit our needs. The room and bathroom were clean, a little on the small side but it met our needs. Breakfast was great and was taken outside on 6 of the 7 mornings. We found the owners and staff very friendly. I always book hotels with Booking.com, after consulting TripAdvisor. This time, I at first, booked a hotel in Desenzano that looked all right, but without my permission, momentarily draw the whole payment from my credit card. After that we did not trust this hotel and cancelled.the booking. It took us a very long time to get the money back - Lucky for us we ended up with Piroscafo (means steam boat). My partner and I were fortunate to stay for a week at this delightful hotel in September this year.
