The thermal waters have ancient origins. We find them cited from the Greek Strabone to the Roman scholar Pliny the “Old”. The Greeks, who were the first to colonize the island calling it “Pithaecusa,” used the mineral springs to cure their illnesses. However it was the Romans who had great passion for the thermal waters and put them under the protection of Apollo, recognized as the God of health and healing, and built upon them luxurious spas which would soon become resorts for fun, leisure and wellness.
The Terme Manzi Spa was built around the famous water source called “Gurgitiello” springs, named by the Romans who were inspired by the hot stream, gurges in latin, that flowed freely in the open to an area of the island which is now called Piazza Bagni. The Romans were soon able to highlight the enormous healing powers of this water, which they experienced themselves over time, thus creating an important tool for healing and wellness.
We are born from water and water sustains our life. Up to 60% of our body weight is water therefore it draws incredible benefits from hyper thermal waters and mud. They are very effective in the treatment of many diseases, as documented by medical and clinical studies.
The multiple healing properties of hyper thermal water originate with clear deep sea water that is forced through infinite volcanic fissures by pressure. The water passes through areas of extreme heat which contain a great variety of minerals and salts. During this process the water is purified and can absorb the healing minerals and salts. This is why the water reaches the surface at temperatures close to 100 degrees Celsius, and with a salty composition rich in bicarbonates, alkaline sulphates, and sodium and calcium phosphates. It is the combination of high temperatures and salty composition that create the enormous healing power in the thermal mineral water of the Manzi Spa.
The on-site spa has 10 treatment rooms including massage/treatment rooms and couples treatment room(s). Services include massages, manicures and pedicures, body wraps, and body scrubs. The spa is equipped with a sauna and Turkish bath/hammam. A variety of treatment therapies are provided, including aromatherapy and hydrotherapy.
Encompassing 1600m2, it is a real Oasis of wellness.
Every spa program is strictly personalized using the many different strategies designed to combine the ancestral curative powers of our thermal water and mud with the numerous modern and antique manual techniques, aimed at turning back the hands of time to rediscover the wellness that each body has at the beginning of life.
