This hotel is just about 1 minute walk from the Piazza Maggiore. And from there, you can walk to almost every place you want to go within what is called the Centro Storico. Since it is located off the main streets, you will enjoy very quiet stay here. Our room had a nice balcony with chairs and a table (plus a very comfortable rocking chair). It is a good place to unwind and relax in the early evening hour. The room is fairly large and tastefully decorated. It has an adequate closet and a ... Read more

We used the car GPS to find the hotel but don't be afraid of driving on the Piazza Maggiore to get to the hotel, it is the best location by far right in the heart of Bologna. We pre-booked parking at the hotel garage and they parked the car and took the bags to our room. Our room was spacious air-conditioned and the decor had a stunning astrology theme, apparently all the rooms have different themes. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the breakfast was fabulous and nothing was too mu... Read more

We only had one night in Bologna and chose this hotel for the location - just steps away from the main square. We had a nice double room wuth King sized bed and very nice en suite in marble. The room was bright and stylish and the buffet breakfast was excellent.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Bologna. The location could not have been more perfect for the 1 night that we stayed at the Art Hotel Commercianti. Our room was typically European tiny but it had all the comforts of a boutique hotel. When we got to our room, my husband and I were concerned about the noise on the street below our window but, as luck would have it, the neighbors on our floor were MUCH MORE noisy than the people on the street! After a rainy stretch of days, our evening was warm and ... Read more

The location was perfect in one sense- right in the heart of Bologna, adjacent to Piazza Maggiore. Pleasant staff, reasonable breakfast, clean rooms but.. The outside street between the church and the hotel is a natural auditorium for sound. There is a rock concert most weekends ( opened with "I can't get no satisfaction"! When we were there,) nothing as bad as bad music. Add the church bells, emptying the bins at weird hours as well as normal human traffic - very difficult to sleep. It was the ... Read more

The Art Hotel Commercianti is well situated in Bologna. I thought the room was comfortable, clean and quiet. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast was one of the best I have seen in Italy. I would most definitely come back.

The hotel is in the city center, in the pedestrian area, of Bologna, on the side of San Petronio cathedral. The area is perfect to visit Bologna. Many good restaurants and bar nearby. I stayed one night in the hotel for a business trip because I find a special good price. People at the deck were nice and helpful. The room was at the 2nd floor. When I arrived the room was not ready yet, so the people at the desk to not make me wait gave me a different room (of better standing I realized later). T... Read more

What a gem of a hotel! We chose it for its ideal location and reasonable price, and had no idea when we walked in that it would be one of the hotels we enjoyed most during our Italian vacation. The hotel has a fascinating history‚??it dates from medieval times and actually served as a professors‚?? residence during the University of Bologna‚??s early days. Original beam work is still preserved throughout the hotel. Our room looked out on the cathedral‚??probably 15 yards away‚??and the first t... Read more

The location of this hotel could not be better just off the Piazza Maggiore and all the major sights of Bologna including shopping and restaurants. Luckily for us, there was an open air cinema festival on through the summer evenings as well. Perfect after a day of sight seeing.

Upon arrival we were exhausted from driving all day and not in the best of moods to begin with. The internet was not working properly, we had issues with parking and we were frustrated. Francesco immediately reset the internet for us and it worked. Not the best internet connection so if you are a business traveler, I wouldn't recommend staying here. Francesco took care of all of our issues one by one and with a smile the whole time! Pay the extra Euros and park your car in the hotel garage. This... Read more

Absolutely great location, which is the main attraction of this hotel. Our room was nicely furnished and the bathroom was small but adequate. Superb access to Bologna's attractions and plenty of nearby restaurants - try the platters on 'Fish and Vegetables' street.

Located on a little ally way, this hotel was difficult to find, but once there was well worth the search. It is located within the heart of the historic district right next door to the Bascillica di San Petronio which rivals the size of St. Peters in Rome. We were greeted by a very courteous staff who also connected us with a free walking tour of the historic Bologna. Our car was housed in a valet parking garage next door. Hotel Commercianti was a great find for our stay in Bologna. It is located down a side street so yes, it is a little difficult to find, but the front desk was very helpful upon our arrival. Our room was not ready when we got there, but they held our luggage for us and then kindly delivered it to our room since we were out. We booked the suite which seemed to be the only room available for all four of us, so i have to say we were extremely comfortable. The room was clean and the bathroom spacious... Read more

I have stayed in the hotel Commercianti and its sister hotel the Orologio twice, I take a group of American college students to Bologna each summer. The hotel is elegant and clean, and has all the amenities to make you feel comfortable (good air conditioning, good wireless internet, fridges in room, very delicious breakfast each morning) but still has an ancient, historical feel of the old walled city Bologna. Bologna is a very special place and this hotel does the job. Central location - although get a taxi the first time you go as it is tucked away. It is in the heart of the medieval part of the city a near bars, restaurants and lots of historical sites. Bologna has a leaning tower too - who knew? Hotel clean, a bit more expensive but worth it, ask to use the hotel bikes to tour the city. Will definitely visit Bologna again and would be happy to stay at this hotel.

The position is exceptional. Tucked beside the cathedral on the main palazzo. Incredible breakfast. A must stay. also do the delicious Bologna tour. You won't regret either choice

The most frustrating part for us was valet parking. We would like to warn those who come by car always check your car for scratches before you leave the hotel. Trusting the hotel, we did not check it, though it was suspiciously parked in angle while returning the car. We only realized the problem when made the first stop on the way home. It was a big fresh scratch on the corner of the car ( the color of scratch was even the same as they walls in the garage). After contacting the hotel with... Read more

This hotel is in the perfect location to explore Bologna on foot, just steps from Piazza Maggiore. We checked in late and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. They already had the baby cot set up upon arrival. The room was very clean and comfortable, the bathroom was nice with great water pressure in the shower. Breakfast was a nice spread and made-to-order drinks, plus American coffee. I fully recommend this spot, and would be happy to stay again for longer than one night!

Perfect quiet location just off the main square in Bologna. The original hotel is very old but has been completely brought up to date with a lot of old style and taste. The staff were very well trained and complimented the 4* status. If you are traveling by car (as I was) the garage is in the hotel but book early as space is limited. If you are going to Bologna, you will not do better. Value for money at this level.

We stayed at the Hotel Commercianti for our wedding anniversary in August and booked a large suite. The hotel doesn't have a kitchen! No hot food, the same dull buffet breakfast of pastries every day. The bar, and I use the term as I have no words to describe the facility here, is apauling.
