Lovely hotel around the corner from Piazza Maggiore. Rooms not huge but well designed and good facilities. A number of themed rooms (see their website for details) which are interesting and fun. Small restaurant attached and used for buffet breakfast. Staff very helpful and friendly.

The hotel is in a superb location around the corner from piazza maggiore. Although the room was not huge it was spotlessly clean. The only slight drawback was the noise when the bins were collected early in the morning however I would stay in the hotel in a heart beat

Central location is great, interior design is love l'y but we fit a small bedroom. Expensive for the service quality. Reception could be more comprehensive and supportive, especially when an upcharge is required compared to internet price.

Just returned from four nights at this hotel. You just can't fault it. Exceedingly clean, lovely friendly staff. Breakfast was good. No problem with Wifi. Very central to practically anything you could want, history, sights and shops. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Two nights in central Bologna required central location and car parking, both of which were provided by Al Cappello Rosso, but at a cost. Cannot fault the hotel, fixtures and fittings were all of the highest order and the staff were most helpful. Don't forget that Visitor Tax imposed by the different municipalities, payable after you have stayed. Could be considered as a negative for the encouragement of tourism.

We stayed here for 3 nights, double room on the first floor. The room was lovely with lots of great touches, like robes, slippers, great toiletries, fabulous bathroom. It was immaculately clean with an evening "turn down" service. We were overlooking the street so the view was enclosed and a little bit noisy but sooo Italian! The front desk were really helpful and friendly, booking restaurants and giving general advice. The "bistro/cafe" attached to the hotel provided a decent enough breakfast a... Read more

Added some days onto a trip to Florence. Picked Al Capello Rosso for its location and reviews. Not disappointed - very central, comfortable, pleasant staff, good breakfast (served in a nice bar next door, had a drink or two in the evening as well). Short taxi trip to / from railway station and airport. We'll stay again when next in Bologna.

Just off the Piazza maggiore, this is a well situated, small hotel that is comfortable and quiet . There is a spacious ground floor sitting area providing computer access and printing and coffee with an adjoining breakfast cafe. Taxi from BLQ. was about 15 euro and under 20 minutes. This hotel could not be better located - just steps from the Plaza Maggiore but down a quiet side street. The rooms are modern and comfortable although not that large - our king bed took up most of our room. Fortunately, the attractions of Bologna are sufficient that you won't want to spend too much time in your room!

We visited Bologna for a long weekend and decided to stay at the Cappello Rosso. Absolutely delighted with our choice with this hotel as everything was perfect. Very professionally run and yet very friendly. Rooms recently refurbished and very comfortable. Hotel in a great position in the centre of Bologna which was perfect for our stay. Would recommend it without hesitation.

Stayed here on our last night in Bologna. The hotel is amazingly central to all the tourist sights, but located on a very quiet street. The room and the bathroom were small, but very nicely decorated, clean and comfortable with everything you'd expect from a four star hotel including a breakfast buffet that had the first eggs we'd seen in 8 days in Italy.

Staff are very helpful, especially Elena who recommended the excellent restaurants where we ate each evening. Our room was not huge, but had a wonderful bed and pillows and was very clean. The standard rooms though nicely refurbished, are small. The classic themed rooms are only slightly bigger but may depend on room. Like most old hotels, though modernised, room sizes within a category can vary quite significantly and only those familiar with the hotels, can book the larger rooms for the same cost as the smaller. Themed rooms are not to everyone's taste - heavy colours, busy sketches on walls and a small wall -facing window. Other low point is shower over high edged bath. We aske... Read more

We stayed in the American Icon suite and loved it .. small balcony was nice too ... The hotel has some very quirky elements and the staff were very friendly, helpful and assisted in organising a tour for us ... the hotel has a great position just off the central square so really easy to walk to wherever you wanted .. My only comment would be add English breakfast tea bags in the room ... Bologna is an amazing city as is the surrounding area

This is a really nice hotel in a great location two minutes from the Piazza Maggiore in the centre of Bologna. The towels and bed linen were changed every day during our four-day stay and the staff were very helpful. I would not advise taking a car any place near this hotel because of restricted entry and one way system of the nearby roads, a taxi from the airport is ‚?¨20. WiFi is available at this hotel.

Really, why go anywhere else? Location is great, very near everywhere you want to be. Rooms many rooms are uniquely decorated, mine with Italian opera libretti. Rooms are typically small. Linens were lovely. First place I've stayed that had both a large terry bathrobe and a satiny dressing gown in the room. Wifi worked; safe worked. Staff was helpful. Breakfast offered varied choices in caffe setting. Value was excellent!

The location of this hotel was fantastic. Our standard room was clean, cool and comfortable. The breakfast offered at 10‚?¨ was quite good, and the busy staff was very pleasant. Bologna is a wonderful city with lots to do and see AND great food!

We needed a good place to stay in Bologna for one night. We wanted to be close and walk everywhere. This hotel was perfect. Clean, great staff, close to the Piazza etc. A great way to end a fabulous vacation!

Well located hotel in the centre of the city with everything on your doorstep. Several good restaurants very close by. The hotel has very good attention to detail including toiletries, bathrobes, large safe, slippers etc etc. Not suitable for car drivers as the city centre is off limits to cars at certain times. Also, there's nowhere easy to park. We returned our car hire to the airport and got a taxi in and out. (Appx 20 euros each way including tip.) We would definitely stay here again.

Better to get there by taxi. You can feel that you are in ancient Rome as soon as you step into the narrow alley. The hotel is in an old building and it looks like it has been recently renovated. The lobby is not big but the furniture and the settings create a pleasant atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I forgot my cell in the taxi. The receptionist called the dispatcher many times until I got it back. The room was big enough with a nice clean bathroom. Breakfast was served in... Read more

This is a great little boutique hotel just off Plaza Maggiorie. The rooms are small but very well designed so they don't feel small. The only downside is because you are in the center of town there are no views from the windows. Otherwise the staff are very friendly and everything works.

We stayed for two nights on our first ever trip to Bologna, and were so happy with the hotel. Everything was easy - check in was swift, and we were upgraded to a spacious and quirky room on the top floor. The hotel is located just off the Piazza Maggiore, but is just far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. Highly recommend the hotel wine bar - great selection and friendly service. Overall had an incredible few days in this beautiful city!

I wasn't sure what to expect having arrived in the pouring rain, soaked through. It's a 20min walk from the station, reception seemed slightly harsh, especially since we were treated well in Florence. But was quick and straight forward check-in. Room was quirky (203) with comic art on the walls, small room but done in such a way it didn't feel cramped. Bathroom excellent with well stocked toiletries. Very very comfy and large bed. Breakfast was great, help yourself from the buffet, pastries, cer... Read more

Great location very close to the main city square and plenty of bars & restaurants within easy reach on foot. Hotel well presented, clean and tidy with friendly, helpful staff. The room we stayed in was quite small but comfortable and adequate for a weekend stay. Our friends room was more quirky with lots of artwork which looked really good. Every evening there was a leaflet put in the room with suggestions for the next day and things to do. Try the jazz bars in the university area. The breakfas... Read more

Spotless hotel in the centre of Bologna, Well equipped room, maybe a little on the small side, nice bathroom. Certainly " quirky"- we had plastic lobsters stuck all over the room.Breakfast was okay ,but not a massive choice. We had two nights and were a bit disappointed to find that the bar/restaurant was closed on one of them. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby . Ristorante al Montegrappa is very nice and only 5 minutes away

We stayed for a long weekend. It has a fantastic central location, 1 minutes walk from the main square. The bedroom was fabulous, with space, comfortable beds, even a pillow menu! Nice toiletries, and a sweet placed on your pillow at night. Extremely clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and there was a good continental breakfast. I would recommend to my friends.

I have to say that we were excited for our stay here. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, (a strike in Rome), we were unable to make the trip to Bologna. I emailed the hotel over 50 hours in advance of my pending cancellation and was told they had (and in all honesty it was on my reservation), they had a 72 hour cancellation policy. Needless to say, they charged me for the no show even though the strike in Rome was an act of G-D. Just beware of their very long cancellation p... Read more

This hotel is not really our style, but I will recommend based on location. Around the block from Piazza Maggiore, in the heart of Bologna, you can walk to most anything you want to see. It is too far to walk from the train unless you want a fairly long walk with your luggage - we took a cab for 8 euros. We were upgraded to a Jr Suite, which was certainly appreciated. Staff was friendly and gave us the general tour of Bologna on the map when we checked in. They also gave restaurant recommendatio... Read more

This classy looking hotel is in an excellent location, a 1 minute walk from the main square. Parking was a little difficult as a member of staff had to get in the car with us and show us where the parking was, which wasn't particularly close to the hotel. Upon check in, the staff member at reception had us booked in a twin room rather than a double. He was rude and argued with us, showing us his paperwork that said twin. We showed him our own paperwork that said double. I'm not sure where the ... Read more

First time staying in Bologna and at the Cappello Rosso. Was a good choice; location is excellent as just around the corner from Piazza Maggiore.. and a quiet location. We were upgraded on arrival and had a 'themed' room.. different!! But bed was comfy and all facilities were good. Even, unusually for Italy, had a kettle and tea/coffee provided (but no milk) Staff were friendly & helpful. Stayed for 4 nights 4 - 8 October 2016. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were absolutely pleasant and efficient. Whatever we asked for was seen to immediately with a friendly attitude. 2 small lounges to sit in with lovely décor. The small restaurant next door (connected internally to the hotel) was value for money and excellent Italian food. Would definitely stay here again. Why 4 rating. The location is excellent for exploring Bologna as you are a 2-3 minute walk from the Piazza Maggiore. The staff were always friendly and helpful The reception doesn‚??t prepare you for the rooms which are themed‚?¶. Mine was a JFK room and boy is the d√©cor garish! Some will love it, some will hate it. It never bothered me but I‚??d prefer something more "normal". Excellent located, having friendly staff and comfortable room, Al Cappello can be the choice for a lovely stay in Bologna, not cheap but nice. All was perfect, the tea that you can prepare in the room, the bathroom products for personal use, the only thing I cannot deal with was the air conditioning. It cannot be started, with all my tries, and the same with bathroom ventilation. That's why I had a cold bathroom. Otherwise, all according with a 4 stars hotel. A perfect hotel in a perfect location. Literally a minute from the square. We were located on floor 3 and found it to be so quiet. Twin beds, TV, unique decor, lovely bath and shower. Towels and bedding changed daily which actually is more than we would ask for: over four days, we would have been happy for the same sheets and towels for the duration. Hairdryers in room. Lovely selection of toiletries plus a fridge. Breakfast was scrumptious: typical buffet of eggs, bacon. Sausages, cakes and pas... Read more

Capello Rosso is sited in a narrow alley that borders the non-motorized vehicle zone of old Bologna. Near two wonderful restaurants, the cathedral and it's square, and a grocery store makes it a great place to stay if you arrive by taxi. I would not recommend that you try to personally drive there, the traffic pattern is beyond my comprehension. The hotel offers a great selection of novels and other books on each floor. Booked in for three nights which i needed to cancel due to recent earthquakes in Italy - several other hotels (and airlines) were extremely understanding and flexible - sadly not Al Cappello Rosso. When I wrote to them to explain how my trip had been changed due to the earthquake, they were completely unsympathetic and stated that I have a non-refundable reservation - period, paragraph, end of discussion, which cannot be cancelled or changed under any circumstances. Just returned from 4 night break at this pleasant hotel. Room was nice and kept beautifully clean with fresh linen each day. Breakfast was fine. Staff were all pleasant and helpful. Hotel in ideal location for exploring. Loads of shampoo, etc, which is handy when you are limited with fluids in hand luggage. Our room was above the front door and the narrow street can be quite loud and lively but go to bed late and it's not a problem. Would certainly recommend this hotel.

We stayed for just one night in between stays in Florence and Venice. It was the perfect place to be. Small boutique hotel, quiet road, right off the main square. Walkable to everything. Extremely clean, and friendly. Our room was top floor with a mini balcony and view over a little courtyard and the room was huge. Bologna is a great town, really enjoyed the history, culture and food scene. Not luxurious but the perfect place to stay while in Bologna.

The only positive thing I can say about the hotel is the location in the centre of Bologna. We stayed at a noisy room - a huge ventilation plant outside the window kept us awake all night. When we told about the problem at the reception we got no responce at all. Another reason for a bad night's sleep was the pillows. There were 4 pillows on the bed, but they were all very hard and uncomfortable. Both my husband and I woke up with a headache. The price of the stay was high and considering the f... Read more
