We stayed at Club Hotel for 1 week from 3rd September, we found Baja Sardinia at that time to be a very peaceful, safe resort. It is very pretty and had enough people there to have an atmosphere, but not too many to be crowded or loud. I would recommend this resort as an ideal place if you want to explore Costa Smeralda, approx. 40 mins lovely drive along the coast from Olbia airport, with so many lovely resorts and beaches so close by. We were very glad to have a car in our package, to enable easy exploration of such a beautiful island! The roads seemed safe, so there is no need to fear driving here!
We found Club Hotel to be lovely, the main benefit of it being the location. I wouldn't class this as a 4* hotel, furnishings are nice and pleasant, but not stunning. We had "superior" room 605, which had a partial side sea view, but mainly looked out over to the resort bars and restaurants, which turned out quite atmospheric for us, as we like to sit on the balcony late at night to drink and chat, so it was nice to watch the "goings on" below! The bed, as many reviews have previously said, is extremely hard, but my husband and I slept so well on it and our usual aches and pains of a morning weren't there, even though we have a firm bed at home!! The room was large, with double wardrobe, lots of drawers, a safe, tv (never used it) and mini bar. The bathroom was a nice size with an attractive archway into a large shower, but the bathroom certainly wasn't upto my standard of cleanliness, the one thing that I particularly didn't like was the dirt marks all on the side of the inside of the bathroom door - disgusting and very obvious, so no excuse that this dirt could not have been removed. I certainly don't expect that in a 4* establishment :-( ! Unfortunately, the air con was either not working properly, or was completely rubbish! I would sweat continuously of an evening whilst getting ready, I complained one night to reception to have someone look at it the next day, checked in the morning it would be looked at and we were on the list. When we returned that evening, it was still not working, I rang reception and about an hour and a half later 3 men arrived with a mobile air con unit, but as you had to have the patio door open, with the pipe out, it was pointless! I felt I couldn't say anything as they had tried to help, but I was none the better for it!
As we were in a "superior room", our evening meal on the half board basis was served in the upper, open terrace restaurant, which had amazing views over the resort, beach and sea, it was idyllic. Breakfast is served here also, for everyone. A couple of mornings, we had to have breakfast in the lower, enclosed restaurant, due to high winds and I was very relieved we were usually in the terraced restaurant, as I love to eat outside and wouldn't have been happy in the inside restaurant! Service of an evening on the whole was excellent, waiting staff were always very friendly, courteous, attentive and professional, but breakfast for some reason was the total opposite and a sham!! A previous review had likened the waiting at one point to Fawlty Towers and that is exactly how we found most mornings! It was hit and miss if you got the type of coffee you actually ordered, if you were lucky enough to be serviced in the first place...the wait would vary from 5 to 45 minutes (the latter being rare) and if you ordered eggs, that wait ranged from 15 to 30 mins, so I gave up asking after 4 days and then just had the pre boiled eggs on the side...! Most mornings we could laugh about it, but I do not understand how and why breakfast was so chaotic...?!
Food was of a good quality, evening starters were mainly not to our taste and was repetitive, desserts were delicious, but they were also repetitive and main course portions were so tiny, the Head Waiter would usually offer my 6ft 4 husband another one as soon as he finished, which he usually accepted, as they were so tiny!!
Drinks, as previous reviews, are expensive, 5.50 euros for a bottle of water with dinner and wines starting from 29 euros, upwards, but this was certainly the norm in Sardinia unfortunately! Don't go expecting cheap food or drink anywhere along this coast, as you'll be lucky if you find it!
Sunbeds on Baja Sardinia beach are 24 euros for 2, with an umbrella. We thought this to be expensive, until we visited different beaches where they were sometimes 40 or 45 euros for the same - so be prepared...!! At least the hotel provides free sunbeds on the private beach, though it isn't the type of beach we prefer and we always found the sea quite rough if we went round there, so didn't spend much time there, but it is worth a sit for a different experience and view!
We did have free Wi-Fi, but had to enter the code again each time we returned to the hotel and it was very slow during busy times, ie. early evening, but it was acceptable for our needs, though not amazing!
We found all staff to be friendly and I would definitely recommend this hotel, but mainly for the location, we had a lovely holiday here and visited some lovely places :-)
