As always a delightful stay. Staff all work together and can't do enough to make your stay the one before your next. They are all most cheerful (even for grumpy old me!). Shower is of good quality and idiot proof, my starting point for choice of hotel). The hotel is handily located with an excellent smoking area next door in their own Bison Bar which has a great club upstairs also with smoking area

Easy to find, very clean, comfortable bed, centrally located - I would stay there again. Very helpful staff - they even had a fan/noisemake in the room to help with the noise from Temple Bar folks. The staff made several great recommendations for us and helped us with getting an early morning taxi.

I had a good stay at The Clarence. The service is excellent, especially from the front desk. Very helpful. The rooms are clean and spacious. My room was really quiet and considering it's location I was very surprised by this. The breakfast is to die for and is in a lovely setting in their restaurant, and again the service was excellent. The only thing that let the hotel down was the very slow and non powerful hairdryer which left my hair looking rather frizzy! That aside I would definitely s... Read more

We even got upgraded to the penthouse suite which a balcony with stunning views of Dublin city. The rooms are very comfortable and have everything you could possibly need. Had a couple of nights here, the rooms are clean and comfortable with tea making facilities. The breakfast is really nice, exceptionally nice. Central location right on the canal and by Temple area. We would probably upgrade if we stay again to a canal facing room as we had a basic room and it was dark, so had to have the lights on all the time. However a pleasant stay, staff helpful, food great would recommend. Nice little quirky cocktail bar next door in the cellar if you like an evening... Read more

We stayed here over the May bank holiday. Not familiar with Dublin at all, but chose the location because we enjoy live music. The hotel was great - very comfortable, lovely furnishings, a little balcony to sit out on. We did not use the restaurant and bar - both seemed quite dead and empty, but the room and staff could not be faulted - thus the 5 star rating. We were prepared for noise - however the area itself was a disappointment. Perhaps it was the timing, but streets were filled with ve... Read more

Dublin was the first stop a week and a half family vacation in Ireland. The bus from the Airport stops at O'Connell Street Bridge which is less than a 10 minute walk to The Clarence. So getting to the place was very easy. I was lucky enough to be able to check in well ahead of actual check in time, but others in my party couldn't but the concierge still held the luggage and delivered it to their rooms when the room was ready so we didn't have to lug bags around Dublin for half a day. Lovely hotel close to Temple Bar but not too close. Many lovely traditional Irish pubs and restaurants to visit within a close area. The staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming with nothing too much trouble to make our stay an enjoyable one. Our room had lots of character and had everything we needed for a comfortable place to stay. There was some noise from the surrounding bars etc. but that it to be expected in a busy part of the capital city and added to the feel of the place.

The Clarence is well situated right by the river near the Millennium Bridge and convenient for restaurants and the Temple Bar area. The room was a good size and the bed comfortable. The decor seems to be getting a little aged, a renovation would be in order soon. Staff were mostly helpful except I was told I couldn't have phoned to make a restaurant reservation when I knew I had. We stayed here on our last night in Dublin. We had a reservation at another hotel, but upon checking into that hotel, we knew we could not stay there. It was outdated and like my grandmas house. So we called The Clarence and asked if they had rooms for 6 people. We were traveling with our 4 kids, ages 20-12. Stayed here based on reviews and location. The room we had was clean, but nothing fancy. Our room faced out over the river and the busy street below. The room didn't have air conditioning and we had to open the window during the day to get it to cool down. The street noise made it loud, but how often are you in the room during the day? It's not easy for me to write a poor review, but in this case I must. We paid over $200 US Dollars for a tiny room surrounded by brick walls with no ventilation and fans that brought no value. We were there for our 25th Anniversary, and this was the beginning of our trip, and became the worst hotel we stayed in. I had one person say to me that the room shouldn't even exist - it's an insult to put people in a closet. The staff provided service, but for the most part it was aloof and unfriendly.... Read more

A bit worn, a bit spare and lightly populated compared to most other city centre hotels, nonetheless I like the Clarence, and usually stay there when I come up to the Big City from Cork. It's a great location, the Liffey facing rooms the best to give you an often melancholy view of the north side of the city. Although there are few, if any (one barman?) The hotel location and staff and fittings were excellent. However if you require a quiet place to sleep we did not have that in our room. From 1am-3am the sound of the beating bass from a nearby music place was heard all the way on our third floor room. Also a lot of noisy foot traffic heading to the bars and heading home when they closed.

I liked staying there, but mostly because of the staff and the location. Both first rate. But the room itself left a bit to be desired. As frequently mentioned, there is no air conditioning so even on a chilly day the room can get very warm. You can only open the windows a bit and the provided fan can only do so much. The tv did not work (not a big deal), but was annoying in that I think it was a connection problem that should easily be fixed. Shower was ok, but there was no inner liner so... Read more

I had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The wifi was good throughout our stay which I find unusual in hotels. The staff was professional, friendly and very helpful. The only down side is the weather was unusually warm so we had to leave the window open which gave us a lot of street noise. This cannot be helped by the hotel. I found when the windows were closed they did a great job with noise suppression. The location is perfect.I will plan to st... Read more

We have heard horror stories of other people finding nice places to stay in Temple Bar area and luckily we were not one of them! We loved our stay at the Clarence! It was clean, spacious, had a great bathroom with great water pressure and we enjoyed the downstairs bar as well! The staff was very friendly and it was walking distance to everything. We'd definitely stay here again!

We stayed here one night as we were in Dublin just for a layover. What an absolutely lovely hotel. The king deluxe room was spacious and beautifully appointed with a view of the river. Beautiful bathroom, living room with couch and chairs and TV. And a huge bedroom as well. The staff was so welcoming, accommodating and efficient. Breakfast was delicious and more than you could ask for. Staying here is like visiting a friend with a big, wonderful house. Would definitely return!

On a 'Beautiful Day' in September, we decided to celebrate our first wedding anniversary by spending a night in The Clarence & eating in the co-located restaurant, Cleaver East #Auchtunggravy. We were checked in my a very friendly receptionist & were given a room on the 2nd floor. This of course meant that we had to take the EL-EH-VAY-TOR (woo hoo) but not so high as to cause 'vertigo'. We were immediately impressed with the room; very comfortable & welcoming. Being a city centre hotel, our room... Read more

The staff didn't know anything about what was going on and one guest asked if there was a vegan options and was presented with goats cheese an hour after everyone else. This is another review where I wish TA allowed partial points. The Clarence is not a 3 star hotel, but it also doesn't quite earn a 4 star rating. Location is great- close to the action in Dublin. The rooms need updating. I also thought the Octagon Bar was just okay. The staff was very friendly and helpful with storing luggage since we arrived early.

We enjoy staying in the Temple Bar area and wanted to try this hotel. It is quite lovely and the staff was helpful. The only issue is that they offered to help with our booking the hop on, hop off bus tours but told us that none included Glasnevin Cemetery. This is incorrect because the tourism office was able to help us--it would be helpful if, even if they don't book that particular tour, they could refer you somewhere else. The Clarence is a very nice hotel, in a fantastic location for walking. The desk staff was incredibly helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. I would have given it a four star rating... Except for one incident: when returning to the hotel after the bars closed with a companion, there was some additional scrutiny for those trying to get into the hotel. However, it was targeted only to females. My male companion (not a guest at the hotel) was not questioned. I, in the other hand was not allowed ... Read more

Overall, the accommodations were initially good. The staff is very friendly, helpful. Location is great, near Temple Bar area in heart of Dublin.
