Seriously, don't let the 2 star rating scare you off...this hotel is fantastic. Clean spacious rooms, friendly staff, tasty breakfast and its in a fantastic location. The pub is attached but for the 3 nights we stayed there on the 3rd floor, you couldn't hear a thing...even during the soccer game when the pub was rowdy. The pub for dinner was fantastic too, incase you are looking for a great friendly place to grab a meal without going too far! Keep in mind we stayed here with our 2 yr old, so I ... Read more

Hotel was very affordable and is in a good location. The staff was extremely nice! both staff from reception and the restaurant (in the pub). Breakfast was good enough for what we paid for. Rooms were clean and had everything you need.

Just before the May bank holiday weekend I received the sad news that a dear friend had passed away. In haste I booked the a flight from England and also accommodation in the Portobello Hotel . I am so glad I chose the Portobello to stay in . On arrival to the hotel stressed and grieving I had little time to change my clothes and to find out about and get 2 buses to the funeral. I was also worried that it was a bank holiday friday and the roads would be busy adding to my stress I explained th... Read more

I was here with my dad. At first we didnt like our hotel room because it was quite noisy, so the manager immediately the next day arranged for us to get another room. That room was great, quiet and clean. Very nice hotel bar as well and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We stay here on a very regular basis and there are a number of reasons why we do. Firstly the location is excellent with lots of on street parking beside the hotel. Its no more than a ten minute stroll to St Stephens Green. The staff are without doubt the most helpful and friendliest we have come across in a long time, nothing is too much trouble. The measure of a hotel is how they deal with any request or comment a guest may make and when we had a slight problem with our accommodation on our la... Read more

A little bit noisy at night but in a perfect location, comfy & clean, breakfast included, friendly people, good wifi connection, tea and cookies in your bedroom, iron and hair dryer too... What else do you need? Around ?30 from airport (it depends of traffic).

Fairly close to the city center, and in front of the canal. The room, bathroom, towels and everything were perfectly clean and the people at the 24hour reception very helpful. The room was large, warm and beautifully decorated. We did not have any issues at all, except for some noisy neighbors, but it was no big deal.

The hotel clean and has excellent service. I had a corner room and it was about a kilometer to the main tourist area. I'd stay here again. I give it five stars for service. The Irish breakfast in the restaurant was good and the ambiance is worthwhile. Dublin is well worth the visit and the Portobello Hotel is a good place to stay.

I have no idea what the other reviewers were writing because this place is dirty and loud! The rug has stains on it. Our room (the family room) is way too small. There is no room to put anything. You can feel the springs of the mattress in your back. I do NOT recommend this place!! Stay away!

After reading the reviews I was concerned as this trip had been booked as a surprise gift from my partner and had never had a break where I hadn't had an input. We were overly early to check in, but the receptionist went out of his way to organise it being ready as soon as he was able. He was one of the nicest and kindest receptionists I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. His knowledge and helpfulness went far beyond his job specification that's for sure. The room was 205 and was large a... Read more

I was in town for several days and wanted a spot in the city, within easy walking distance of major attractions and public transportation. This was a good spot, right near the canal. The room was clean but very simple, really an old European hotel with a modernized bath, but old world size rooms and amenities. Staff were friendly.

On arriving we were greeted at reception by a friendly chap, it all looked good until I went up the elevator to my room 304 on the top floor, I opened the door and was shocked to see it was a box room with just a sky light, it was hot so I opened the sky light for some fresh air and was promptly greeted by screaming seagulls. My colleague was on the 2nd floor and had a good room with a window and a view over the canal. The bed was OK and cleanliness was fine, The TV had a basic package with very... Read more

Stayed here on the 25th July 2016. Checked in quite late and couldn't believe it was only ?50 for the night. So cheap for Dublin. It was booked up so could only get a room with 3 singled beds. Go into room and see that one of the beds is clearly broken. No worries as we only need two beds. Notice couple weeks later on credit card statement that been charged ?50 twice. Ring up and ask and they said that we broke the bed which we didn't. The bed was already obviously broken. There is no possib... Read more

Location was in the south of Dublin and we walked about all of the south from there. You can get the 757 green bus from the airport which is direct or the scenic route on no 16. The 16 takes 1hr from the airport. Taxi will be Euro25 and 30 minutes depending on traffic. There are places for breakfast close by but for E5 each it was great to get the day started. The bar can be a bit noisy in the evening but that's because it is a popular place. There are plenty of places to eat close by. Fo... Read more

I usually stay at a 3 or 4 star hotel so I was surprised that this 2 star was just fine for me. Dublin is busy and expensive, especially in August, so I was happy to find this hotel, close to where I visit with friends. I'd usually stay at the Mespil (that was full) or the Burlington (August prices were double Portobello) so I tried this hotel. I had room 305 which had a nice view over the canal and the city from the small window. Bed and bedding was fine, the shower was a little short ... Read more

Our first stay in Ireland was one night at the Portobello Hotel. The staff was very friendly, let us check our bags when we arrived early in the morning, and granted us an early check-in. We liked the unique layout of the2-bedroom suite, particularly the large skylight in the living room. Unfortunately, our queen size bed was worn, causing both of us to lean toward the middle. We had pre-purchased a bus hop-on-hop-off pass, but we had a good hike to get to the closest stop, so we ended up tak... Read more

The hotel is above the Portobello bar which fortunately doesn't seem to be too noisy and didn't disturb me. there is a lift if you can't manage one or more flights of stairs. Whilst "nothing fancy" the rooms are comfortable, reasonably spacious and adequately equipped with a TV, kettle, small desk area and good WiFi in the rooms and also the bar area. I had a couple of good nights sleep but bear in mind there is no air conditioning if you get an unseasonably hot evening. The breakfast is served... Read more

We booked this hotel online, one month ago. It was our first time in Dublin, but unfortunately we booked for it in the same day of the final of gaelic soccer. This hotel was in Richmond street a very nice street in front of a romanic view of a canal. It was difficult to reach for us, but I liked the place very much. It was convenient to reach all touristic places (Trinity college, saint Patrick...) also by foot. The receptionists were very kind and gentle, they offered us two days of breakfast ... Read more

Hotel is basic but fine for a night out. Staff were fine and the rooms were a little run down but clean. Would skip the bar down stairs basic beers, staff all on phones behind the bar, dirty tables, posters for the All Ireland still up weeks later. Also no resident bar for some reason.

Great location for a 2 star property. Very basic however fulfils your basic requirements. I would personally recommended this only on the basis of the service levels offered by their reception staff Anthony O'Brian. Very warm and friendly and happy to assist. He truly represents Irish hospitality in its true sense. If you are looking for a place....I think this is it....

My friends and I (a group of 5) spent 3 nights in Dublin and stayed at this hotel. Our room was a suite with 3 full sides bed and a small living room area with a couch and TV. We were worried about being crammed in a room but this was spacious for us. The beds were also really comfortable. The lock the front door at 6pm for safety but there is someone at the front desk at all times. I would warn though that the bar downstairs is open until about 4 am every night and it can get load. Was a little concerned when we arrived about 10:30 pm. They have a bar downstairs that looked kind of sketchy (although my family thinks my radar is set a little too sensitive on that sort of thing) with a bouncer outside and a bunch of folks hanging around in the cold smoking. Have to ring in to the lobby. Once there, the clerk told us that someone had taken the ONLY key to the car park, so we could walk over and see if it was unlocked or try to find a place on the street for the night and the... My husband & i r hotel owners from UK. We spent 2 nights @ this hotel a few months ago over a weekend. We arrived bk there @ about 3.45am & as we entered the hotel door we heard music coming from the bar.As we entered the adjoining doors from stairs to hotel, we were approached by a drunken young lady, possibly in her late 30's....?We asked very politely if we could have ONE late drink (as there were at least 20 people already drinking and smoking in there)and we were abruptly told that we had t...
