My wife wanted to stay in a castle. I wanted to stay somewhere seemingly more comfortable. Both of us were winners with the Clontarf! Very modern accommodations set in this 600+ year old castle. Very kind, delightful, and helpful staff from the very moment we arrived to the time we left. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 was that it is a good distance from downtown Dublin so you had to use taxis to go anywhere. Overall, I'd recommend this hotel to anybody!

We booked this hotel as a anniversary gift and we got way more than we thought we would. The service is great and you get a real castle feel when you stay there. We were only here for one night, but it was really one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. We even got upgraded to the Royal Suite!

Got to the hotel, and were delayed getting our room, something about it not being cleaned. However, after a couple of drinks in the bar, the hotel found us and brought us our room keys. The room was really great, BTW. Later in the evening, we got a call from the front desk making sure our room was ok and apologizing for the delay. They then sent us up a couple of "nightcaps" - the same drinks we had in the bar earlier! Wonderful! Always very happy when a place makes good for their mistake... Read more

We chose Clontarf as a celebration to end our trip, knowing we'd be sad to end our Ireland vacation. The hotel was very nice with easy check-in and out. We ate at Fahrenheit and the food and service were great. The castle location is close to the airport but not the sights of Dublin so I'd recommend this on your departure. Great bar crowd in the Knights's Bar with live music. The hotel has a real history as an important fortress for Dublin and while the guest quarters have been added-on to... Read more

PROS: The castle is stunning, the reception area is beautiful, the rooms are large, the beds and pillows are extremely comfy and the staff members are friendly. I highly recommend the Clontarf for anyone looking for the wow factor! CONS: It was my friend's birthday and I emailed the hotel three weeks prior asking if they could put up some simple room decorations (e.g. a few balloons). I have stayed in countless hotels around the world and they were all very happy to assist with such requests. H... Read more

I stayed here for one night on a business trip. I loved it. The architecture is amazing. There are parts of an old castle included in the walls. It's out of the city center in a quiet upscale area. I took a walk from the hotel along the river. The room was nice although the shower was a tight squeeze for a normal sized person. The bed was comfortable. The staff were nice at every turn and the restaurant was fairly good. A great place to stay.

I recently attended a friends wedding at this hotel. I love this place. I got married here myself and am happy to return for any occasion. The decor, the atmosphere, the food, all perfect, and the staff were very attentive and friendly, especially Lorraine and Roma. Great memories created here.

a fantastic stay was had by all in our group. The staff were very friendly and helpful including John the manager and Karen at the bar. The decor was outstanding and we dined in the Fahrenheit grill where the food was divine. The hotel is a short taxi ride into city costing ‚?¨18-‚?¨20 and a lovely walk from the strand. We would definitely come back again.

Wonderful Hotel just outside city centre, wonderful decor second time I have stayed and would definitely stay again. Very luxurious and amazing how they have built the hotel around the old castle. Well worth a stay. They also had a courtesy bus to take me to the East Point business park each day.

Stayed at the weekend and felt there were some things the hotel did so well at in terms of décor, staff as all were friendly, choice of drinks and the whole layout within the castle. I felt however there were some things that let them down. This included the constant party nights that meant we had people walking outside the room until the early hours for all 3 nights. Children's birthday parties in the main bar on a Friday night which meant we left early and finally the rooms could have been cl... Read more

We recently celebrated our sons christening in the knights bar at clontarf castle. The bar manager Cormac and the waitress Juliet could not be more accommodating and friendly and went out of their way to make our day extra special. The food was delicious and very generous portions. The children were made welcome also. They also had fun exploring the castle so didn't get bored. I would definitely book again for another event.

My family stayed here for two days and enjoyed everything about the hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They offer a concierge to assist you with planning day trips etc. The restaurant was nice and the front lobby was spectacular. Dublin city center is easily accessible by the 130 bus that stops a short distance from the hotel. We would be happy to stay there again during another trip.

The Clontarf Castle was a wonderful place to stay. The atmosphere of staying in an authentic Castle made our trip feel like a real Irish Experience. The room was clean and decorative. The maid service was impeccable . The restaurants there were very good, however I would have liked a change in the menu after a few times. Also, would have liked a place to get just a snack. There are no vending machines for drinks or snacks, the only option is the mini bar which does not have a lot in it. The Ca... Read more

My Elderly parents had arranged to meet their friends for lunch in the Clontarf Castle and had rang ahead to ask to reserve a table as their were 10 of them and they were going to have lunch at the carvery. When they arrived, the carvery was exceptionally busy as there was a conference in the hotel - and no table for 10 had been reserved. The Manager sprang into action and opened a private function room for my parents group and sent in staff to retrieve their orders from the carvery so they woul... Read more

Unfortunately I fell ill while in Ireland with a serious inner ear infection. Within the space of a little over a week, I saw three primary care physicians and an ENT specialist. My travel companion had to return home to the US. The doctors in Ireland would not clear me to fly. My husband, back in the US, found this hotel for me to go to. It was a godsend. I only wish I had been well enough to take more photos and go to the bar and restaurant. The staff at the hotel knew I was sick and we... Read more

The staff was uniformly gracious and helpful and the room was clean and functional. I recommend paying for the package with the breakfast, because it is top-notch. There were minor quibbles (TV wasn't functioning the first night) but the responsiveness of the employees more than made up for it.

Who doesn't want to stay in a real castle? Beautiful hotel, professional and helpful staff, and comfortable equipped rooms. Well worth the money and far enough away from Dublin to relax and enjoy the coastal views. We even ordered the room service and it came beautifully presented and was great!

Stayed here for two nights prior to a bus tour of Ireland. From the moment you turn into the tree-lined driveway and see the imposing Castle at the end, then enter the lobby, you know this is going to be a fantastic experience. The Castle was built in 1172, demolished in 1837 and completely rebuilt as a castle & then in 2006 it underwent a 10 million Euro renovation. The reception staff were wonderful and our room was ready, despite arriving before the normal check-in time. What a room it wa... Read more

Each time we are in Dublin, we visit the Clontarf Castle and the bar within. We love the fish and chips and their tartar sauce is wonderful. The bar staff especially Marta, is very attentive ensuring your meal is done to your liking. A lot of history in the area. Must start or pop in for a light dinner or an eloquent night out. Two years ago my wife and I celebrated our anniversary with another couple and had an excellent fine dining experience upstairs.

The location was perfect for a quick jaunt into the city centre either by taxi, bus or train. Also, it's very close to 3 picturesque towns of Howth, Portmarnock & Malahide. The rooms are a little on the small side but that's completely understandable given that it's a castle converted to a hotel. It's absolutely charming.

Had an amazing time, would strongly recommend but the one thing we would like to mention is a certain member of staff Elaine from the Knights Bar. She was outstanding and an amazing person that we met. She is a credit to the hotel and she went out of her way to make us feel very welcome. Love Mr & Mrs Coser xxx

It is located in a more residential area just out of downtown Dublin and close to airport which would make it a great choice for a stay after touring the country & before flying back home. Children may enjoy the heraldry symbols, castlelike feel of different floor/levels w/lots of twist turns and green space gardens outside. We stayed for one night recently. The hotel is not central to the city center which was not a problem for us. It was about a 15 minute drive. The hotel is interesting. The rooms and all facilities are modern and akin to a standard Marriott or similar chain. The room was smaller than we had encountered at other hotels.
