Went for a dinner to their restaurant. Had heard tales of 5 course dinner served in colonial style. New management have revamped the place and changed the menu which is the standard inexplicable mix of "Chinese, Indian & Mughlai" They did have a small continental section which we decided to try. Boy was it a disaster. The roast chicken and grilled fish very underdone though the gravy was nice. Could not muster courage to call for desserts!

We stayed for four nights in December 2015 here. As many reviewers have written previously, this is a railyway-themed heritage hotel owned by railways and operated by Chanakya Group. The ownership of the hotel still lies with Railways. We booked two rooms near the dining room in the ground floor as my mother-in-law has problems in walking. The rooms were huge with high ceilings and decorated with themed rare photographs of Howrah and Madras stations. Even the bathrooms are the size of average ho... Read more

The good things first: 1.Friendly staff 2.Spcaious rooms 3.Reasonably good food 4.Located very close to the railway station. What could have been better: 1. Their travel partner's service is quite atrocious. Please refrain from using their service. 2.Located not very close to the beach. There's a construction work going on right in front of the property which is going to obstruct the view from the hotel's balcony. The ground floor rooms anyway do no have any external view. 3.The place is infest... Was well worth the stay. Large, well appointed rooms, well maintained. Service was average. The property by itself is very attractive and the building is kept in great shape. Very near the Railway station and the beach. Fascinating photos of various railway assets through the years although there is no one there to explain if you want to know more. Food is okay. You are better off going to the Mayfair hotel for great food and which is hardly half a km away.

Had the most relaxing and comfortable stay. The food was excellent to say the least. Customer service took personal care of what we liked and even managed to get special menu by chatting with the chef. Went back after 10 years, expecting the same great service ,came back with a lot more and better quality. A must stay for all!! p.s. a must have- CARAMEL custard.

Overall good experience. Large rooms can easily accommodate a family of 4 persons,( 2 children). Cleanliness of large spacious open corridors could have been better. Friendly staff, close to railway station, but about a kilometer and a half from the fab Swargadwar( the happening heart of Puri). Sea beach has now become invisible, even from the first floor, thanks to the newly constructed building coming up in front. Quiet place, beautifully maintained gardens, stayed in room # 28 on the ground f... Read more

Excellent hotel with modern facilities yet retaining the old charm of the days of railways. I had visited this hotel 3 decades ago and decided to see again how they have brought back to life this heritage hotel. Well , I was not dissapointed. The heritage hotel has retained most of the old charms - the floor , furniture , staircase, outside facade etc have been left untouched. Just a new wall color, new bathrooms and air-con have been added to make it luxurious . Some time ago this was the only ... Read more

Good hotel with comfortable stay but it doesn't have sea view where 90% hotels of Puri are have sea view and on the beach which worth living in such a nice sea shore of Puri, Overall a nice hotel for family. Complementary breakfast is good but Ala karte order is late and not up to the mark. Overall clean and spacious rooms and a beautiful property

It was always my desire to stay at this heritage hotel - for two reasons : 1. Its timeless grace and old world charm and 2: that it was just 200 metres from the famous Puri beach... It has massive rooms, tantalizing corridors and well-maintained terraces all tell the story of India‚??s magnificent Railway inheritance. Its the only heritage hotel in Orissa as well as uniquely, the only railway theme hotel in India. Each room, as well as its public area, display rare photographs that convey the... Read more

This is a suitably elegant property. It breathes history at every nook and corner. Previously, while the railway ran the place, it used to be very shabby and run down despite the evocative atmosphere. Now the rooms and bathrooms have been renovated to acceptable standards and we came back to the place in a pleasantly anticipatory frame of mind. BUT......and this is a big big BUT......some individual or maybe a company has gone on to construct an ugly matchbox building right in front of this heri... Read more

if there is one hotel I am nostalgic about then it is this. My memory goes down to my childhood days, when my father used to drive us down to this hotel . Then he used to show us around the huge building with fond stories of his father who too frequented the hotel often. It was the only hotel of it's kind with a library and an adjacent bar serving ginger ale ! It has a huge veranda with old fashioned armchairs to this day. It is a railway property and a heritage hotel, perhaps one of it's kind... Read more

This place has become part of a family tradition! The rooms are wonderful, people wonderfully helpful and the food is excellent, feels like home but cloaked in a professional coating! This feels like staying in a Zamindar's palace, relaxed, luxuriant and utterly peaceful.

Very good property. Huge rooms. Posh locality. Very good food. Enjoyed my stay. Swimming pool was neat. the complimentary buffet breakfast was good. Hotel staff were hospitable. The property based on railways gives you the knowledge of the past glories of Indian Railways.

I stayed in Chanakya Bnr for 2 days the experience was quite great. The hotel is very spacious with huge lawns. Hotel ambience was very good. The rooms were really spacious, wooden floored, and well furnished. Loved their spacious rooms. The washrooms were okay. Each rooms are named after various railway parts/places. Their food tastes delicious but Ala-carter is a bit expensive. The breakfast buffet had many options which was delicious and fresh. The swimming pool area was quite clean, enjoye... Read more

Old hotel with vintage looks with sprawling lawn & well maintained small family pool. Room maintenance & service is average:could have been much better: On arrival you may feel like an unwanted guest where nobobody comes out on there own to help you with your luggage & nobody speaks with you untill you approach on your own to reception. Nobody will ask you for bed tea ,news paper or wifi untill you enquire about it. But they are very particular about final bill, checkout & payment. Too many flie... Read more
